How often have you picked a book, a series, or a film – given your time and energy to the world it creates, only to be royally pissed by the way it ends? Take “Game of Thrones” fans, for example: dedicating 8 carefully administered years to a fictional world, only to be slapped in the face with that obnoxious ending. It’s not just a massive heartbreak, but also a lingering feeling of being cheated out of something one deserved.
The lonesome and introverted young protagonist in Byung-woo Kim’s “Omniscient Reader: The Prophecy” replicates that feeling when one of his favorite web-novels, “Ways to Survive the Apocalypse,” ends on a sorry note. Kim Dok-ja (Ahn Hyo-seop), who has followed the novel from his high-school days – a fictional world and a constant companion he had by his side when things got bad in the real world – has just ended his contract-based job,...

Pachinko on Apple TV+ is a spellbinding tale of four different generations from a Korean family that navigate their lives during the time of Japanese colonialism. Even though the characters are fictional, they are set in a time and place that is true. It draws from real historical events and experiences of people in that era.
This highly underrated Apple TV+ show is based on a 2017 novel by Min Jin Lee, and captures rigorously researched truth and authentic voices from the time when Koreans were under Japanese rule. It isn’t “true” in the sense of a single biography, but is built on a mosaic of true stories, blending fact and fiction to depict this endearing tale of discrimination, resilience, survival, and love.
How Pachinko Builds on True Experiences Rather Than the Story of One Person or Family
Pachinko’s story is rooted in the social conditions borne by Korean people under Japanese rule.

Why Was Omniscient Reader: The Prophet Star Shin Seung-Ho Exempted From Military Service?(Photo Credit –Instagram)
Military duty is mandatory for every man in South Korea. It’s known by all. But why is it different for the actor Shin Seung-Ho? The actor has featured in several K-dramas like Alchemy of Souls and Weak Hero Class 1, and has made a name for himself in the industry. As a mandatory rule, every South Korean man must enlist in the military after turning 18. But despite turning 30, Seung-Ho hasn’t announced his enlistment and has continued to work as he has so far.
More recently, Seung-Ho’s agency officially announced his exemption from military service and stated the reason behind it. The actor reportedly couldn’t enlist in the military service like everyone else because of his previous injury. This is the sole reason why he hasn’t taken a hiatus from acting so far.

Apple TV+’s Pachinko Season 2 premiered just under 10 months ago, but many of the most emotional and devastating scenes are still fresh for actress Minha Kim, who portrays anchor character Sunja. Kim’s main character, a woman and mother who connects three generations of her family across the sweeping series based on Min Jin Lee’s book, endures many a hardship.
What might be freshest in the audience’s — especially those who have read the book — mind is the shocking moments in the finale when Sunja’s oldest son Noa (Kang Tae Ju) visits her one last time out of the blue before running away to start a new life for himself. He has just come to realize who his real father is — Koh Hansu (Lee Min-ho) — while he has grown up believing that Isak (Steve Sanghyun Noh) is his biological father. A classic Korean fairy tale involves a mermaid who falls in love with a fisherman, with this premise adapted and modernized in the 2016 K-drama "The Legend of the Blue Sea." Currently available to stream on Hulu, the series is divided into two narratives, one set in Korea's medieval Joseon era, and the other in the present-day. Reuniting the core couple at the center of these two time periods is reincarnation, with their star-crossed romance reborn through time and tragedy. This dual-narrative approach lets "The Legend of the Blue Sea" weave in a number of classic K-drama themes and tropes while presenting a thoroughly entertaining and unique story.
During the Joseon Dynasty, young nobleman Kim Dam-ryeong (Lee Min-ho) falls in love with mermaid Se-hwa (Jun Ji-hyun). Centuries later, Dam-ryeong has been reincarnated into a con artist named Heo Joon-jae, while a reincarnated Se-hwa takes on the name Shim Cheong after being smitten with the handsome human.

So many shows live and die by the quality of the love story at their core and this is especially true of K-dramas, as Korean television steadily gains popularity worldwide. The K-drama term is a blanket one applied to scripted South Korean television of any genre and, more often than not regardless of genre, these shows find time for romance. With flawlessly beautiful main characters and soap operatic stakes, often in the best way, it's easy to see the appeal of a good romantic K-drama. With Netflix's library of fantastic K-dramas growing rapidly, there are plenty of Korean love stories to choose from on the streaming service.
True to the malleability of the K-drama term, the series on this list range from the usual romantic comedies to period piece fare and outright melodrama. With such a wide variety in shows and genres to choose from, there is a love...

4 Limited K-Drama series on Netflix that you must watch right away!(Photo Credit –Netflix)
Netflix is one of the biggest streaming services at present. Whenever we feel like watching a series, a K-drama, or a movie, we tend to opt for a streaming platform – be it Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, or even Disney+. While we wait for a sequel to our favorite series, the streaming platforms often declare the cancellation of the next season. Last year, Netflix canceled 22 series, more than any other Ott platform, breaking its own record of canceling 16 shows previously.
Along with these 22 announced series cancellations, Netflix also revealed through media reports that many K-dramas were officially made for a single season. These K-dramas were My Demon, The Bequeathed, Welcome to Samdalri, and more. Netflix, in its bi-annual engagement reports, relabeled the dramas as ‘limited series.’ A limited series means a series that has a fixed number...

With series like "Severance" and "Slow Horses," Apple TV+ has a great library of original programming that continues to grow. However, between making your way through episodes of "Ted Lasso" or "Shrinking," you may have overlooked the streamer's period drama "Pachinko." Adapted from the best-selling 2017 novel of the same name by Min Jin Lee, the story's East Asian setting, including Korea, and heartbreaking emotional beats make it perfect for any K-drama fan. Keeping that in mind, it's also important to point out that, despite its cast and setting, "Pachinko" is not quite technically a K-drama itself.
"Pachinko" has its narrative split across two time periods centered on matriarch Kim Sunja and her family. In the past, a younger Sunja (Kim Min-ha) endures the brutal Japanese occupation of Korea and being forced to relocate to Japan while pregnant with the illegitimate son of the Japan-based Korean mobster Koh Hansu (Lee Min-ho). As World War II begins,...

Fans have already claimed Solo Leveling’s second season as one of the best anime of 2025 and we’re only 3 months in. A-1 Pictures, the studio behind Solo Leveling, has done a fantastic job.
Other manhwa-to-anime adaptations, however, haven’t been receiving the same amount of love and effort from their studios. Recently, Studio A-Cat released their preview of The Beginning After The End’s anime adaptation, and fans are not impressed.

One manhwa, in particular, has a special place in any anime fans’ hearts: Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint. It’s coming soon to Crunchyroll, although the studio and potential release date are unknown. However,...

As per INB100, Kbs unofficially informed them that it wouldn’t be possible to feature Xiumin on their show because Sm Entertainment artists would appear.
The situation allegedly arose to this extent because of a conflict of interest between Sm Entertainment and the Exo member, making it difficult for him to appear on the same stage with Sm artists. However, Kbs has now denied all the allegations in a recent report. Scroll ahead to find out the truth.
