The Last Drive-in with Joe Bob Briggs brings a Suitable Flesh / Mayhem double feature to Blu-ray and DVD
Image
The Shudder streaming series The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs is currently deep into its seventh season – and now, for the first time, the show is set to receive a physical media release! Fans recently started noticing listings for The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs Blu-rays and DVDs showing up on sites like Amazon and Target – but there wasn’t accurate artwork, so it was a mystery what this 4 hour and 55 minute release would be. Now, the proper artwork has been unveiled, revealing that this is a double feature of the Joe Lynch-directed films Suitable Flesh and Mayhem! This double feature is set to be released on October 14th… and it appears to be limited quantity, because Amazon is currently sold out of the Blu-ray edition. Hopefully they’ll be restocking soon.

12 Best Steven Yeun Movies And TV Shows, Ranked
Image
In 2010, Sang-yeop Yeun, an actor who went professionally as Steven, booked a role on "The Walking Dead," a zombie horror television show based on a long-running comic book series. While this wasn't his first professional credit -- you may have forgotten his cameo on "The Big Bang Theory" -- it was his breakout role, immediately endearing the performer to a wide audience and opening the doors on his career.

Since then, Yeun has played a rich and varied slate of roles in a wide variety of genres and tones while simultaneously seeming like a kind-hearted, self-effacing, and easily funny hang, thanks to a series of viral appearances with Conan O'Brien and a post-fame uncovered Second City sketch. He strikes one as an unpretentious actor who can do it all, and his body of work supports this thesis with aplomb.

In celebration of the versatile, engaging, and not-to-be-weird-but-very handsome performer, we've...

‘Mayhem’ VOD Review
Stars: Steven Yeun, Samara Weaving, Steven Brand, Caroline Chikezie, Kerry Fox, Dallas Roberts, Mark Frost, Claire Dellamar, André Eriksen, Nick Kent, Lucy Chappell, Bojan Peric, Annamaria Serda | Written by Matias Caruso | Directed by Joe Lynch

The world of business is a cutthroat winner takes all monster that takes no prisoners. What you usually don’t see though is this turn into an orgy of violence that matches the heartlessness of greed. This is why Mayhem is somewhat of a breath of fresh air for what it gets away with.

Attorney Derek Cho (Steven Yeun) is having a bad day. Screwed over by a co-worker, the only way he can save his job is to talk to the partners of the law office he works for. When a virus shuts down the building though and everybody starts losing his mind, he and new ally Melanie Cross (Samara Weaving) must battle to...

Making Mayhem by Jennie Kermode
Steven Yeun and Samara Weaving in Mayhem

Do you ever feel so frustrated in your day job that you're close to going postal? Do your colleagues get twitchy in the same way? Joe Lynch's Mayhem, written by Matias Caruso, imagines what would happen if the emotional powder keg that is the modern office were affected by a virus that made everybody lose their inhibitions. It follows the recently sacked Derek (played by The Walking Dead's Steven Yeun) as he tries to make his way to the top of a building in which middle managers, desk clerks and secretaries are literally out for one another's blood.

Mayhem was a hit at Frightfest last year, and it was there that Joe agreed to take a call from me to discuss the film. Like many horror filmmakers, he was thrilled to be at the festival and trying to take in as...

Mayhem Interview: Director Joe Lynch Talks the Horror of Corporate Life
In Mayhem, now available on Blu-ray and DVD, Steven Yeun is Derek Cho, a character that many people will easily relate to. Derek was a good-hearted layer until he started working for a big corporate firm; after a few months there, he has become - in his own words - a “dick”, clearly unhappy with his lifestyle but at the same time doing the necessary to climb the corporate ladder. This is certainly a familiar situation for countless persons and, when initially reading Matias Caruso's script, director Joe Lynch was one of those who could see his own life reflected in the protagonist. In an interview with ScreenAnarchy, Lynch revealed that he "actually read the script while I was in a corporate workspace. I was...

Review: ‘Mayhem’ is an Entertaining, Rage-Fueled Adventure
If you’ve ever worked an office job wherein every single one of your bosses has been promoted above his/her aptitude, you know what futility feels like. You slave away at your cubicle to reach beyond your pay grade only to have someone that knows nothing about what you do — or worse, throws you under the bus for something you’ve never even heard about — derail everything with the stroke of a pen or click of a button. What’s your recourse? Unless they stupidly cc’d you on the smoking gun email that sealed your fate, there is none. You will simply fade away as your career and life is dismantled for no other reason than your adversary possessing higher clearance. You fantasize about your revenge, ultimately resigning yourself to retail.

Well, screenwriter Matias Caruso feels your anguish, so much so he’s written a rage-fueled adventure depicting...

SXSW 2017 Review: Mayhem Takes Inter-Office Drama to Ridiculously Fun Extremes
Genre favorite Joe Lynch gives corporate culture a double middle finger with his most recent project, Mayhem, an action-fueled social satire that ambitiously provides viewers with a wish fulfillment scenario: what if you had a free pass to act out your wildest, most perverse urges, simply because you no longer had any control over your own impulses? In this scenario, Lynch goes for broke and then some, as Mayhem is truly his most ambitious effort to date, offering up a ridiculously fun Thunderdome-esque situation where chaos ensues and nothing is off limits.

Written by Matias Caruso, Mayhem introduces us to the ID7 Virus, a pathogen that does an emotional hijacking on its hosts, where their id is left uninhibited, and they can’t help but go absolutely nuts. Sometimes ID7 results in two people going at it like dogs in heat on a conference room table, and sometimes it causes...

SXSW 2017 Interview: Joe Lynch Unleashes Mayhem at This Year’s Festival
Throughout his career, filmmaker Joe Lynch has given us fantastic movies that have spanned both the horror and action genres, including Wrong Turn 2, the "Zom-b-Movie" segment of Chillerama, Knights of Badassdom, Everly, and his latest movie, Mayhem, which recently enjoyed its world premiere at the 2017 SXSW Film Festival.

Written by Matias Caruso, Mayhem follows a corporate attorney named Derek (Steven Yeun), who's trapped inside his office building with hundreds of fellow employees during a viral outbreak that causes the infected to be unable to control their primal urges. Chaos ensues as the co-workers begin to wage war against each other the longer the virus rages on.

Daily Dead had the chance to speak with Lynch after the first SXSW screening of Mayhem in Austin, and he chatted about the trepidation he felt going into the film’s world premiere, the journey to getting Mayhem made, working with Yeun, and more.

Maleficent's Robert Stromberg to direct new slasher film
Tony Sokol Feb 13, 2017

Robert Stromberg is going from Disney's Malificent to a new slasher movie called Carnival...

The upcoming noir slasher film Carnival is about a knife-throwing artist performing at a traveling circus. But the barnstorming blade buff is not the villain, he is the hunter. In the tradition of Tod Browning’s Freaks, Alejandro Jodorowsky's Santa Sangre, Hammer’s Vampire Circus and Halloween perennial Carnival Of Souls, Carnival will be a three-ringed affair.

Carnival will be directed by Robert Stromberg, the Oscar-winning production designer who made Maleficent (2014) with Angelina Jolie as the sympathetic, malicious witch. Stromberg was the first production designer to ever win back-to- back Oscars, for Avatar and Alice In Wonderland. He turned the lonely journey of astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) from Ridley Scott’s The Martian into The Martian: Vr Experience, which was released at Sundance last year. Stromberg also directed the pilot Dawn for Hulu and MGM.

Based on Greg Sestero and Tom Bissell’s non-fiction book The Disaster Artist: My Life Inside The Room, Franco’s passion project is set to recount the infamous story behind The Room, Tommy Wiseau’s widely-derided pic that has since gone on to become something of a cult classic. No release date has been set, but we know that the feature will be written and directed by Franco, who stars as the eccentric Wiseau, and features a cast comprised of Dave Franco, Seth Rogen, Josh Hutcherson, Ari Graynor, Jacki Weaver, and former Community star Alison Brie.
