There's a lot of bloodletting, a palpable sense of dread, an authenticity of time and place, and a psychosexual relationship between the vampire Count Orlok (Bill Skarsgård) and his victims — all aspects that foreknowledge of vampire movies and Eggers' work should prepare you for.

King Charles might want to look away. “The Windsors” – Channel 4’s satirical comedy series about the British royal family – is returning for a fourth season, with comedian Harry Enfield set to reprise his role as the hapless Charles.

Variety understands work got underway on a fourth season last May but the creative team were sidetracked by the death of Queen Elizabeth II in September and her son Prince Charles’s succession to the throne. “The Windsors” team are set to mark Charles’s coronation next month with a feature-length special, which recently wrapped.

A rep for Channel 4 said a fourth season hadn’t yet been confirmed but Variety understands that the team are planning to start shooting later this year or early 2024. “Charles’ whole life has been building up to this moment and he wants the U.K.’s first coronation in seventy years to be a spectacular affair with all the pomp and circumstance he deserves,” reads the logline. “As does his Queen Consort Camilla (Haydn Gwynne), who can’t wait to drape herself in diamonds and fur. The “Northman” star revealed to British Vogue that she “ecstatically” embraced the elements while shooting the Robert Eggers-helmed Viking revenge epic, which shot in Northern Ireland — including scenes involving standing barefoot in mud or ice-cold ocean water.

“I looked insane. So infuriatingly joyful,” said Taylor-Joy, who it’s noted carried her belongings around in a plastic shopping bag on set during such scenes.

It’s been two years since Robert Eggers’ last utterly singular movie: “The Lighthouse.” Now, come April 2022, Focus Features will release “The Northman,” Eggers’ violent Viking epic starring Alexander Skarsgard, Nicole Kidman, Ethan Hawke, and Anya Taylor-Joy. Willem Dafoe and Björk (playing a character called Seeress) round out the cast. At last, Focus has revealed the first trailer for the saga. Focus’ official description calls the film “an epic revenge thriller that explores how far a Viking prince will go to seek justice for his murdered father.” Principle photography began in Northern Ireland in March 2020 and was halted almost immediately on account of the Covid-19 pandemic. Lulu Wang’s The Farewell was named best feature at the Spirit Awards in Santa Monica on Saturday (8) in a night that recognised female directing talent in stark contrast to tomorrow’s Oscars.

Willem Dafoe won the first award, Best Supporting Male, for his role in “The Lighthouse.” “Uncut Gems” won Best Editing, while the Best Documentary award went to “American Factory.” Best Cinematography went to Jarin Blaschke for “The Lighthouse.”

Kelly Reichardt was awarded The Bonnie Award, which recognizes a mid-career female director with a $50,000 unrestricted grant. The John Cassavetes Award, given to the best feature made for under $500,000, was given to “Give Me Liberty.”

The 35th annual Spirit Awards are set to air live on the IFC Channel beginning at 5 p.m. Et/2 p.m. Pt. The awards ceremony is celebrating its 35th year in 2020 and as always the show will be broadcast live from the beach in Santa Monica, California. One of the annual delights of the Independent Spirit Awards is seeing a number of films that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences neglected to credit recognized a day before the Oscars. Another Indie Spirit joy is watching talented funny people deliver micro-targeted jokes related to said films.

So, even in short concentrated doses, watching those two ideas dovetail is a glorious thing to behold. The first of the 35th Independent Spirit Awards’ barrage of visual gags comes in the form of returning host Aubrey Plaza donning a Robert Pattinson mustache for the IFC promo below. Taking part in a two-person recreation of “The Lighthouse,” Plaza is joined by Bill Murray as her on-screen partner in cr-aye-me.

Recently I had the joy of reading Todd Phillips and Scott Silver's script for the much-ballyhooed Joker movie starring Joaquin Phoenix and Get Out writer-director Jordan Peele's newest nightmare Us. And today I will be reading the script for The Witch director Robert Eggers' nautical nightmare The Lighthouse starring Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson.

Director Robert Eggers frightened the bejesus out of us with his feature film debut The Witch back in 2016. Now, he’ll be making his return to the horror genre with The Lighthouse. And even though the plot details are largely unknown, we still have some exciting tidbits about the project to feast on.

Little is currently known about Robert Eggers’ follow-up to “The Witch,” but its editor just revealed a key detail: “The Lighthouse” is being shot in black and white. Louise Ford, who cut “Don’t Breathe” and “Thoroughbreds” in addition to Eggers’ folkloric debut, shared what she knows of the project in an interview with Mandy News.
