Biography

Stathis Athanasiou has studied Medicine, Animation, Film Direction and lives in a world without film. He was invited at the 3rd Berlinale Talent Campus, while his short and feature length films have received various awards in many international film festivals. "DOS, a love story in reverse..." (2011) is his first feature film. The film won several awards, and was an official selection in more than 10 international festivals (NYIIFF, Hong-Kong EFF, Gijón IFF, Thessaloniki IFF a.o.) His work in contemporary theatre plays and performances has traveled in such prestigious festivals as Festival d'Automne á Paris, Kunsten Festival des Artes in Brussels, Wiener Festwöchen in Vienna, Athens Festival a.o. with important groups like Theseum Ensemble [Michail Marmarinos] , the Greek National Theatre, the Onassis Cultural Foundation, Theatre Group Opera [Theo Abazis] a.o. With his new project "Alpha" (2015), he brings crowd-funding to Greece for the first time, creating a Transmedia Cinematic Performance that blends cinema, ancient drama, performance and live music for the re-telling of Antigone's myth in the 21st century. He is a member of Woofs, a collective multidisciplinary group of artists, coming together to explore new ways of artistic and social action.
