There’s a lot on the line during The Chosen’s upcoming penultimate season. Right now, the cast and crew behind the Dallas Jenkins-created, directed, and co-penned series are working through the night (literally) to bring one of the most infamous stories from the Bible to life — the crucifixion. From what we’ve learned so far from Jonathan Roumie, who plays Jesus, it’s been a difficult journey filled with plenty of deep and varying emotions. Recently, we were lucky enough to chat with another member of the cast, Elizabeth Tabish, who shared some insight into the sixth season with us.

During her five — soon-to-be six — seasons with The Chosen, series star, Elizabeth Tabish, has been able to dig deep. Her portrayal of Mary Magdalene has allowed the actress to tap into a wealth of emotion as she takes audiences by the hand and gently guides them along on her walk of faith. While the series features Jonathan Roumie’s Jesus as the story’s central figure, it ensures that audiences get plenty of time with his followers, as their backgrounds and journeys are also uniquely important to the tale as a whole. For Tabish, that means that she’s traversed multiple arcs as Mary Magdalene grows as not only a follower of Jesus but also as a human being.

We recently shared a question-and-answer session with Tabish over email, during which she was kind enough to open up about what part of her character she’s enjoyed exploring the most.

Elizabeth Tabish has been with The Chosen since the very beginning. Her character, Mary Magdalene, appeared in the first episode of the premiere season all the way back in 2019. The installment, titled “I Have Called You by Name,” saw the debut of most of the main players that audiences have followed over the show’s five-season run. In the case of Tabish’s character, she is introduced as a woman named Lilith struggling with demonic possession until Jonathan Roumie’s Jesus reaches out, calls her by her true name, and casts the entity from her body. Over her arc, audiences have fallen in love with Mary Magdalene and find themselves drawn to her while she walks her faith journey.

“The Chosen” star Jonathan Roumie met briefly with Pope Leo Xiv on Wednesday during a general audience at the Vatican, where a Season 5 episode of the hit biblical series had streamed on Monday at the Holy See’s Filmoteca theater.

The hit biblical historical drama from showrunner Dallas Jenkins has revealed a rather intense season five trailer, below, which teases the drama’s most ambitious episodes yet as Jesus (Jonathan Roumie) rages against the moneychangers at the Temple in Jerusalem and sets in motion the events that eventually lead to his crucifixion.

It’s the biggest-ever debut for a video game adaptation, surpassing The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which earned $146 million the first weekend of April, 2023. The more horrifying the survived experiences, the better the chances for a positive outcome. But how does one precisely quantify someone’s distress or the likelihood that their safety will be threatened? These stipulations exist more to keep people from the developing world out than to offer them protection.

Whilst I don’t typically cover faith-based films, I was intrigued by The Shift‘s ambitious premise. A Christian science fiction thriller from writer/director Brock Heasley, A film that combines the high-concept appeal of multiverse storytelling with faith-based themes is certainly a bold endeavour, and Heasley deserves credit for taking such a creative risk.

There is a reason certain Christmas movies stand the test of time and return year after year, and also a reason the Hallmark-style factory-made product is easily forgotten. It’s a Wonderful Life, White Christmas, A Charlie Brown Christmas and A Christmas Story are pure examples of the former. They are perennials, classics.

In fact, that sweetly nostalgic 1983 A Christmas Story is what I thought of most when watching the latest entry in the genre, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, which may not be the best Christmas movie ever, but it grabs your heart and makes you smile. It also is that increasingly rare so-called “faith based” film that doesn’t try to hit you on the head with a sermon. Instead, it manages to be thoroughly entertaining family fare that also uncovers the true, not commercial, meaning of the holiday. I wouldn’t be surprised if this Lionsgate release becomes a perennial itself.
