Image
As summer draws near, many high school seniors find themselves faced with the hellish decision of what to do with their lives after graduation amidst the terrifying reality of college applications. Screenwriters Walker Hare and Brad Martocello explore this timeless nightmare for Beth Hanna and Jerren Lauder’s pulse-pounding new horror film You’re Killing Me.

Prep school student Eden (McKaley Miller) attends an elite Heaven or Hell party hoping to secure a letter of recommendation from her friend’s influential father. Her privileged classmate Schroder (Brice Anthony Heller) vows to make Eden work for this letter, however, and his deadly misdeeds plunge her into a hellscape no college admissions board could ever dream up.

Ahead of the shocking film’s release, star McKaley Miller joined Bloody Disgusting’s The Boo Crew to chat about her horror origins, unpredictable on-set vibes, and stunt work with late horror legend Anne Heche. The...

Josh Hutcherson’s Directorial Debut ‘Ape’ Premieres From New Millennial Filmmaking Initiative The Big Script
Ape (2017)
“Ape,” a psychological thriller directed by Josh Hutcherson (“The Hunger Games,” “The Kids Are Alright”), debuted today on the Conde Nast-owned digital platform The Scene. The fifteen-minute film stars Hutcherson as a schizophrenic teen battling hallucinations, with a script by Jon Johnstone.

The film is part of a new emerging filmmakers initiative from Conde Nast Entertainment, Indigenous Media, and Josh and Michelle Hutcherson’s Turkeyfoot Productions, called The Big Script. Citing an increase in major studio tent pole films, The Big Script aims to find and produce “independently created content that can thrive on digital/emerging platforms” and is “driven by unique voices.”

Partnering with The Black List script database, the five films were chosen from over 2,000 submissions, with the only requirement being that the film feature characters in their late teens to late twenties.

Indigenous Media, Josh Hutcherson Reveal Full Slate For Their Incubator Project
For several months, nascent production company Indigenous Media and actor Josh Hutcherson have teased an incubator project called The Big Script, through which they would take five scripts from Hollywood’s Black List and adapt them into digital shorts. Now, titles and summaries have been provided for all five projects, with Hutcherson set to direct one of them.

As he previously discussed during the Tribeca Film Festival, Hutcherson will direct Ape, which will follow the story of a young man who suffers from schizophrenia. The other four shorts will all be directed by their respective screenwriters. The five projects included in The Big Script all feature leads in their teens and early twenties. Here, via Variety, are brief descriptions for all of them:

“Ape” by Jon Johnstone: To take control of his life, Travis Wilker must conquer the hallucinations that plagued his childhood.

“Boy in a Backpack” by Bradley Martocello...

Indigenous Media, Josh Hutcherson Ready Quintet Of Digital Short Film Projects
In November 2015, digital production studio Indigenous Media and Hunger Games co-star Josh Hutcherson announced an incubator project that would take scripts provided by Hollywood’s Black List and turn them into digital shorts. At the Tribeca Film Festival, Indigenous co-founder Jake Avnet and Hutcherson provided an update on their incubator. They have now found the five scripts they will adapt, and production on at least one of those projects will begin in May, with an expected summertime release.

Indigenous is planning to distribute its incubated short films on digital platforms, and it is therefore focusing on concepts that will appeal to millennial viewers. At Tribeca, Avnet and Hutcherson revealed two of their five planned projects, and both feature twentysomething characters who must overcome personal strife. Hutcherson will direct Ape, which will focus on a young man who is battling schizophrenia, while Brad Martocello, who also appeared on the Tribeca panel,...
