On Sunday, Former South Carolina governor Mark Sanford announced that he will challenge President Donald Trump for the 2020 Republican nomination.
Sanford made the announcement on Fox News Sunday, telling host Chris Wallace that one of the reasons he is running is because “the Republican Party has lost its way.”
“As a Republican Party, we have lost our way, and I’d say so on a couple of different fronts. First and sort of the epicenter of where I’m coming from is that we have lost our way on debt and deficits and spending,...

President Donald Trump stormed Capitol Hill tonight to whip House Republicans into line over his policy of separating families at the southern border, making sure to remind them what happens when you cross him.
“Is Mark Sanford here? I just want to congratulate him on running a great race,” Trump snarked, after which he called Sanford, who was in the room, a “nasty guy,” according to multiple press accounts.
Trump famously is credited with costing Sanford his first race in his decades-long career, to Katie Arrington, who had packaged herself as the more devoted Trump-er.
Sanford voted for Trump’s tax break and supported Trump’s campaign to kill Obamacare. But he got branded a traitor for remarks critical of Potus.
Trump nuked Sanford before the election with this tweet:
Mark Sanford has been very unhelpful to me in my campaign to Maga. He is Mia and nothing but trouble.

During Sunday's Last Week Tonight, John Oliver slammed Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives for endorsing a bill to "repeal and replace" Obamacare without even reading it. The host singled out New York Representative Chris Collins who, seemingly confused by one aspect of the bill in a Buffalo News interview, asked the reporter to "explain" it to him. "I can explain it to you right now," Oliver snapped. "You fucked up."
Oliver also blasted South Carolina Rep. Mark Sanford, who when asked by CNN if he read the...

Last month, Season 2 of the Starz political drama "Boss," from Lionsgate Television, came out on DVD. But new fans who power through the 10 episodes will discover that, for terminally ill Chicago Mayor Tom Kane (Kelsey Grammer), there is no tomorrow -- in TV terms, that is.
Starz axed the critically acclaimed but low-rated show after two seasons (which ended last October), leaving Kane's story of power and corruption unfinished. Also left hanging was the future of Illinois state treasurer Ben Zajac (Jeff Hephner), who had survived a sex scandal to be elected governor (albeit one in Kane's pocket).
Now back home in New York City -- the series shot in Toronto -- Hephner says he's heard from many "Boss" fans.
"Especially people who are just getting into it," he tells Zap2it, "without the knowledge that it had been canceled. They'll run through Season 1, come up toS eason 2 and then they're like,...

Stephen Colbert was shaken up on Wednesday after South Carolina turned its back on his family. By "South Carolina" he meant its voters, and by "his family" he meant his sister Elizabeth Colbert-Busch — who recently lost a special election for a House seat to former Gov. Mark Sanford. The experience not only upset Colbert... but led him to a revelation about the world of politics.

There won't be a Colbert in Congress anytime soon. Democrat Elizabeth Colbert Busch, sister of "Colbert Report" host Stephen Colbert, lost her South Carolina special Congressional election to Republican former Gov. Mark Sanford. Sanford won 54 to 45. Colbert had supported his sister in the race, in a district that leans strongly Republican. (The two are pictured at a fundraising breakfast.) The win was a big comeback for Sanford, who held the same seat in Congress before he became governor. His time as chief executive was marred by his admission that he left...

Sorry, Colbert Nation. Despite a big win in the Democratic primary, Elizabeth Colbert Busch, older sister to Stephen Colbert, lost out today to scandal-tinged former South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford in what was her first time running for political office. She would have been the first Democrat to represent South Carolina's 1st congressional district in 30 years. Meanwhile, Sanford—who resigned as chairman of the Republican Governors Association in 2009 after being caught in an elaborate cheating scandal that turned the Appalachian Trail into a perennial late-night talk show punchline—remains undefeated in three congressional and two gubernatorial races. Stephen...

Rejection never is easy to accept -- and, apparently, even wealthy publishers feel its sting. On Thursday, former South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford’s congressional campaign rejected the support and campaign contribution of flamboyant Beverly Hills-based Hustler publisher Larry Flynt, who in turn responded with a letter filled with sarcasm -- and a touch of faux sorrow. “In a vain gesture to achieve respectability, your refusal to accept my endorsement and financial contribution of $2,600 for being America's great sex pioneer has hurt my tender feelings,” Flynt wrote. “First, you threw your wife overboard. Now you have tossed me aside.

In her first run for office, Stephen Colbert's sister, Elizabeth Colbert Busch, faces a man who might seem like an easy opponent. Former Gov. Mark Sanford, who won Tuesday's Republican runoff election, was censured by the state legislature over state travel expenses he used to carry on an extramarital affair while in office. He was ordered to pay more than $70,000 in ethics fines -- the most in state history -- after Associated Press investigations raised questions about his use of state, private and commercial aircraft. You might think Colbert Busch, the...

Political satirist Stephen Colbert will host two high-profile fundraisers for his sister, South Carolina Democratic House nominee Elizabeth Colbert Busch, Politico reported on Monday.
Colbert will host one fundraising event on April 15 in Washington and another on April 23 in New York, together with former investment banker Sallie Krawcheck. House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) and DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) are listed as co-hosts for the D.C. event, according to Politico. Tickets to both events reportedly run as high as $10,000.
This isn't the first time the South Carolina contender has received a boost from her comedian brother.
Colbert Busch and her brother had a busy February, hosting a number of events including a $5,200-a-plate dinner and fundraisers in Charleston, S.C.. Attendees could acquire copies of books signed by Colbert for an additional $1,000 at a separate bowling-themed fundraiser also held in South Carolina.
Colbert Busch easily won her Democratic primary in March.

Finally a Democrat Stephen Colbert can support: His older sister won the Democratic primary in a South Carolina congressional race. The satirist broke from his "Colbert Report" conservative character to back Elizabeth Colbert Busch in her first run for office. His backing included holding a breakfast fundraiser last month (pictured). She may face a high-profile opponent in the May 7 special election, in a distict that leans heavily Republican: Disgraced former Gov. Mark Sanford, who famously went missing in 2009 before admitting he was having an affair, is headed to a run-off...

Elizabeth Colbert-Busch, the sister of Stephen Colbert, is expected to run for the same South Carolina congressional seat as disgraced former Gov. Mark Sanford. South Carolina Democratic Party executive director Amanda Loveday confirmed to TheWrap Friday that Colbert-Busch is expected to file Tuesday to run as a Democrat in a special election. While her brother's fame may help her, his SuperPAC probably won't: The comedian announced last month that it would donate its $773,704.83 to charities supporting Hurricane Sandy relief, wounded veterans, and clean-government groups. Colbert has previously mounted two mock...

Elizabeth Colbert-Busch, sister of comedian Stephen Colbert, will run for Congress in South Carolina, St. Andrews Patch confirmed on Friday.
Colbert-Busch's entry into the race could make for interesting programming on her younger brother's show. Unlike the character Colbert plays on TV, Colbert-Busch is a Democrat, and she'll be seeking to turn a long-red First Congressional District -- previously represented by now-gop Sen. Tim Scott -- blue. But her entrance into the race will add to the intrigue of an already compelling contest that will feature disgraced ex-South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford duking it out with at least five other Republican candidates for the nomination.
Sanford notoriously disappeared from the state in 2009 in a scandal that eventually forced him to admit that he was having an extramarital affair with an Argentinian woman. He finished his term, but his wife, Jenny Sanford, eventually divorced him, and earlier this month declined to run for the seat.

New York — Comedians Rachel Dratch and Mo Rocca will be getting down and dirty next month in a play about political sex scandals.
The duo will star in "Tail! Spin," a verbatim mash-up of the public interviews, secret e-mails, raunchy texts and Twitter gaffes that brought down such politicians as former South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford, ex-Rep. Anthony Wiener, ex-Rep. Mark Foley and former Sen. Larry Craig.
The show, which will make its premiere at the New York International Fringe Festival, has been dreamed up by Mario Correa, a contributor to NPR's "Weekend Edition." Tony Award nominee Dan Kenechtges will direct.
It will play five performances between Aug. 11-16. Dratch, of "Saturday Night Live" fame and Rocca of "The Daily Show" will lead a cast of five.
