Big news for horror fans and avid followers of YouTuber Chris Stuckmann. The film critic's upcoming horror movie Shelby Oaks has just been picked up by Neon for theatrical distribution. Shelby Oaks will have its world premiere this weekend at the Fantasia Festival and is likely on track for a 2025 release in theaters.

Neon has been the talk of the town lately thanks to the huge success of recent release Longlegs, the captivating and unsettling serial killer starring Maika Monroe as an FBI agent investigating the titular murderer, played by an unrecognizable Nicolas Cage. Longlegs broke the record for the biggest opening weekend box office for original horror this year, earning $22.6 million.

According to Variety, Longlegs was made for less than $10 million and the studio used around that amount to market the film, so by my calculations that means its already broken even on its first weekend in cinemas.

Stuckmann is known for his movie review YouTube channel that has more than 2 million subscribers, but his debut feature was born with a Kickstarter in 2022. Stuckmann raised $1.39 million in less than a month, the most-funded horror film ever on Kickstarter.

It marks Stuckmann’s feature directorial debut. The film is described as a documentary-found footage crossover. It will have its world premiere at Fantasia Festival on Saturday. Neon will release the film theatrically in the U.S. and handle international sales.

Nearly three years have gone by since Chris Stuckmann, a movie critic and author with a channel on YouTube that has over 2 million subscribers, signed a deal with Paper Street Pictures to write and direct the mystery horror film Shelby Oaks. Two years ago, the project became the most-funded horror film project in Kickstarter history, with its crowdfunding campaign pulling in over $1 million. Filming took place in the Cleveland, Ohio area back in 2022, and while we still don’t know when we’re going to have a chance to see Shelby Oaks, Deadline reports that genre filmmaker Mike Flanagan has just board the project, which is making its way through post-production, as an executive producer.

Ex Posse Studios, which is behind indie comics such as Night of the Cadillacs and the spinoff Lip Stick Cliqa, is getting a financial boost as develops its properties for the screen.

Ex Posse has inked a deal with Sony Music Entertainment (Japan) for Sony to fund and develop films and TV shows. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

Charlie Talbert (The Big Short), Emily Bennett (Alone With You) and newcomer Sarah Durn (Where the Crawdads Sing) round out the cast.

The film centers around Mia’s (Sullivan) frantic search for her sister Riley, (Durn) after Riley ominously disappeared in the last tape of a group of paranormal investigators called the Paranormal Paranoids. As Mia’s obsession grows, she begins to suspect that the imaginary demon from Riley’s childhood may have been real. Per Deadline, Barry Bostwick, Ted Neeley, Adam Pascal, and David Hasselhoff have been added to appear alongside returnees Zdunich, Paul Sorvino, rapper Tech N9ne, Emilie Autumn, Briana Evigan, Marc Senter, and Dayton Callie. Musicians Chantal Claret, Jimmy Urine, Shawn “Clown” Crahan of Slipknot, and Kevin “Ogre” Ogilvie from Skinny Puppy round out the ensemble of carnies and lost souls whose paths cross at a theme park.

Zdunich wrote the script and co-wrote the musical numbers with Saar Hendelman.

Red Sea Media has acquired the horror-thriller Sacrilege, to be directed by Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw II-IV, The Barrens).

The film - which is being shopped at the Cannes film market - will be produced by Rick Dugdale of Enderby Entertainment through Enderby’s horror division Tony-Seven Films, Sean E. DeMott through Execution Style Entertainment and Chris M. Bonifay through Limb from Limb Pictures.
