Big news for horror fans and avid followers of YouTuber Chris Stuckmann. The film critic's upcoming horror movie Shelby Oaks has just been picked up by Neon for theatrical distribution. Shelby Oaks will have its world premiere this weekend at the Fantasia Festival and is likely on track for a 2025 release in theaters.
Neon has been the talk of the town lately thanks to the huge success of recent release Longlegs, the captivating and unsettling serial killer starring Maika Monroe as an FBI agent investigating the titular murderer, played by an unrecognizable Nicolas Cage. Longlegs broke the record for the biggest opening weekend box office for original horror this year, earning $22.6 million.
According to Variety, Longlegs was made for less than $10 million and the studio used around that amount to market the film, so by my calculations that means its already broken even on its first weekend in cinemas.

Neon has acquired the rights to “Shelby Oaks,” a found-footage horror film (think: “The Blair Witch Project”) that is the feature directorial debut of YouTuber Chris Stuckmann.
Stuckmann is known for his movie review YouTube channel that has more than 2 million subscribers, but his debut feature was born with a Kickstarter in 2022. Stuckmann raised $1.39 million in less than a month, the most-funded horror film ever on Kickstarter.
“Shelby Oaks” follows Mia as she frantically searches for her sister Riley, who ominously disappeared in the last tape of her investigative series, “Paranormal Paranoids.” The characters are YouTubers themselves in the mid-aughts who in the course of their investigation discover that there’s a paranormal force that dates back to their childhood.

Nearly three years have gone by since Chris Stuckmann, a movie critic and author with a channel on YouTube that has over 2 million subscribers, signed a deal with Paper Street Pictures to write and direct the mystery horror film Shelby Oaks. Two years ago, the project became the most-funded horror film project in Kickstarter history, with its crowdfunding campaign pulling in over $1 million. Flanagan’s previous credits include Absentia, Oculus, Hush, Before I Wake, Ouija: Origin of Evil, Gerald’s Game, The Haunting of Hill House, Doctor Sleep, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Midnight Mass, The Midnight Club, and...

Jobless and searching for purpose, a group of 20-somethings from Los Angeles head up the coast to make quick cash trimming marijuana on a secluded farm in Northern California. Cut off from the rest of the world, they soon realize that the estate is harboring darker secrets than any of them could imagine, as they race against time to escape the dense woods with their lives. That's the chilling premise of Trim Season, and you can check out the new trailer above.
We caught up with the film's director, Ariel Vida, and star, Jane Badler, who also produced the project. Folks might remember Badler for her portrayal of Diana, the sexually charged villain of the cult classic TV series V. Cannabis is known to have many medical benefits and can be helpful with conditions like cancer, chronic pain, and Ptsd. There is also evidence of marijuana being connected to spirituality and being used for ritualistic purposes throughout history. Trim Season is a fantastical and thought-provoking commentary on gender and the magical benefits of cannabis.
Trim Season was written by David Blair (The Triangle), Sean E. DeMott (American Satan), and Cullen Poythress, directed by Ariel Vida (Vide Noir), and produced by Paper Street Pictures. Even the most positive of places can have a dark history, as seen in Trim Season. Hailing from the teams behind the Scare Package franchise and the Stephen Lang-led Old Man, the upcoming horror movie centers on a group of aimless LA twentysomethings who decide to work trimming marijuana on an isolated farm in Northern California, only to become the subject of horrifying events from the farm's past. Bethlehem Million and Alex Essoe lead the ensemble cast of Trim Season, with Ariel Vida at the helm.

The vampire comic Night of the Cadillacs was plotted out years ago on bar napkins around California’s San Fernando Valley. So it’s fitting that the new spinoff, Lip Stick Cliqa, has its roots in the Valley, too.
Night of the Cadillacs co-creator Sean E Demott was driving around, and pulled into Galaxy Comics, a comic shop in the Valley he’d never before visited. He wanted to see if it carried Night of the Cadillacs, the 2021 book centering on star-crossed lovers, with a member of a supernatural gang breaking away from his crew to go on the run with a human young woman.
Inside the store, Kayden Phoenix was signing copies of her book A la Brava, which stars a Latina superhero team. “I was like, ‘Who are you and what are these cool books you’ve created ?,'” recalls Demott. “I spent a few months pitching her...

In the late 1980s, Sean E. DeMott was a teenager running around Hollywood and the San Fernando Valley.
He was ignorant to the world of drugs but occasionally would find himself at parties that felt like they were straight out of a movie. Ferraris in the driveway, hair metal musicians inside — and an alarming amount of hard drugs.
It was through these circles that he met a woman who decades later would become the subject of Hot Valley Days and Cocaine Nights, a comic that tells the true story of a 15-year-old girl who hitchhikes from Ohio to Los Angeles, where ...
