When I first witnessed Dark Matter unfold on Apple TV+, I found myself immersed in the brilliant world of alternate realities shown, and only one question came to my mind: “What If?”. The series is based on a novel by Blake Crouch, and follows the story of Jason Dessen, a physicist, who is portrayed masterfully by Joel Edgerton.

He travels through the different multiverses where he could lead his life. The finale showed him reuniting with his family, which left viewers in hope for more. The series has been renewed for a second season, and it promises to dive even deeper into the multiverse of different possibilities.

Although some Dark Matter book changes take the form of completely new storylines and characters, others are simply augmenting what's already there. I recently finished reading Blake Crouch's mind-bending sci-fi novel "Dark Matter," which was adapted into an Apple TV+ show earlier this year. I haven't watched the show yet (I'm planning to catch up with it shortly), but we've called it "the best sci-fi series in years" and that praise makes sense, considering the show is apparently a very faithful adaptation of the largely excellent book. Last Friday, Apple announced that the show will be getting a second season -- a somewhat curious decision, given that the book ends in a place where they easily could have delivered a satisfying story and called it a day.

On Friday (August 16), it was announced that the sci-fi series, starring Joel Edgerton and Jennifer Connelly, had been renewed for a second season by Apple TV+.

Season one of the show premiered back in May and wrapped in June.

Dark Matter is one of the best live-action adaptations I've ever seen, but the show's potential future could bring with it enormous risks. I find Joel Edgerton to be the perfect actor to lead the Dark Matter cast, as he aligns very closely with my mental image of Jason Dessen from the source material. Although there were several Dark Matter book changes made by Apple TV+ during the adaptation process, the additions only heightened the experience for me. That being said, the TV show wasn't afraid to make other bold changes that I'm worried could also hurt the story.
