‘A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms’: Everything We Know About The ‘Game Of Thrones’ Prequel, Including Plot, Premiere Date & Whether George R.R. Martin Is Involved
Image
Game of Thrones author George R. R. Martin has seen all six episodes of the show’s prequel series, originally titled The Hedge Knight, and he approves of the adaptation.

“I’ve seen all six episodes now, and I loved them,” Martin wrote on his personal blog. “Dunk and Egg have always been favorites of mine, and the actors we found to portray them are just incredible.”

First-look footage has been released for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms alongside HBO’s upcoming slate of shows such as The Last of Us, The White Lotus and And Just Like That.

In April 2023, HBO announced it had ordered the show, tentatively titled A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight. Ordered to series in April 2023, the prequel is based on novellas written by George R.R. Martin. During the Warner Bros. Discovery February, 2024 earnings call,...

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: Everything We Know So Far
Image
Alas, the end of 2024 is drawing closer, and another Game of Thrones spinoff, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, waits in the wings of 2025.

This particular prequel is an exciting prospect for the keen and savvy book readers out there.

Given what we know of the books, Max’s latest outing (Max is on a roll heading into 2025) should easily develop into a multi-series story.

(Courtesy of Max/Teaser Screenshot)

There are three books in the Dunk and Egg series (the nicknames given to two of the story’s primary characters), and their story is set some hundred years before the events of Game of Thrones.

In fact, Dunk (short for Duncan) interacted with one of the characters every Game of Thrones viewer is familiar with.

‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ Casts More Roles, Including a Daeron Targaryen
Image
HBO’s A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has announced seven more actors and the roles they’ll play in the Game of Thrones prequel / House of the Dragon sequel.

The casting news includes an actor playing Daeron Targaryen. That’s a familiar name — though not a familiar face — to House of the Dragon fans. But as is often the case in George R.R. Martin’s fantasy world, there is more than one Daeron Targaryen, and this is not the same Daeron as the one in House of the Dragon.

The Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Daeron will be played by Henry Ashton (A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder). This Daeron, also called Daeron the Drunken, is the eldest son of King Maekar I Targaryen and is known for having prophetic dreams.

In Dragon, Daeron is King Viserys and Alicent Hightower’s fourth child, who has been kept offscreen in the series,...

10 Funniest Scenes In Ricky Stanicky, Ranked
Image
Warning: This list contains spoilers for Ricky Stanicky.

Lead actors’ comedic talents shine in the wacky sitcom movie Ricky Stanicky. The presence of actor John Cena as Ricky leads to laugh-out-loud disaster scenarios. The characters’ dilemmas in concealing Ricky’s true identity lead to over-the-top hilarity.

The wacky sitcom-inspired movie Ricky Stanicky includes many funny scenes, primarily due to the comedic talents of its lead actors. Zac Efron's post-Disney Channel career is still going strong, with him starring alongside John Cena in this movie. In Ricky Stanicky, Dean (Efron) and his best friends Jt (Andrew Santino) and Wes (Jermaine Fowler) have always relied upon their invented friend Ricky Stanicky to get them out of trouble — until the day their respective partners want to meet the man. This leads them to hire a washed-up actor (Cena) to play Ricky, with disastrous results.

In addition to the main trio and their alleged best friend,...

Ricky Stanicky – Review
Image
(L-r) Dean (Zac Efron), Jt (Andrew Santino) and Wes (Jermaine Fowler) meet Rod (John Cena), in Peter Farrelly’s Ricky Stanicky. Courtesy of Amazon/MGM

Peter Farrelly’s Ricky Stanicky is an R-Rated, penis-joke filled bro comedy about three childhood friends who invented a fictional friend to take the blame for a prank gone wrong. Really wrong – they set the guy’s house on fire. Kids might make up something like that to dodge responsibility, but adults buying into the idea that someone named “Ricky Stanicky” is at fault is much more of a stretch.

Yet these three pals use this made-up friend to take the blame all through their childhoods, but then director Peter Farrelly (and the script’s six writers) go further, and have the grown-up friends continue using the fictional Ricky Stanicky as someone to blame into adulthood.

Ok, it’s comedy, and disbelief gets suspended, but...

Frightfest 2022: ‘Sissy’ Review
Image
Stars: Aisha Dee, Hannah Barlow, Emily De Margheriti, Lucy Barrett, Yerin Ha, Daniel Monks | Written and Directed by Hannah Barlow, Kane Senes

A social media influencer unravels when she accidentally meets her childhood bully in this blackly comic horror, co-written and co-directed by Australian husband-and-wife filmmakers Hannah Barlow and Kane Senes. With a thematically rich, genre-savvy script, some delightfully nasty gore moments and a terrific central performance from Aisha Dee, this is one of the best horror movies of the year.

Sissy centres on Cecilia (Dee), who used to be called Sissy at school, where she was the target of bullying. Now in her early 20s, Cecilia has reinvented herself as a social media influencer, offering self-help advice and mental health tips. However, there are hints that Cecilia’s life isn’t quite as together as she likes to make out, at least if the off-camera state of her apartment is anything to go by.

SXSW 2022 Review Round-Up: Sissy and Deadstream
Image
Hello, dear readers! The 2022 SXSW Film Festival featured an impressive number of genre goodies on this year’s programming slate, which kept this writer rather busy over the last few weeks. Here are my thoughts on a pair of super fun indie horror projects that fans should definitely keep on their radars for later this year: Kane Senes and Hannah Barlow’s Sissy and Deadstream from the husband-wife team of Joseph and Vanessa Winter.

Sissy: In Hannah Barlow and Kane Senes’ Sissy, we’re introduced to social media influencer and self-appointed self-help guru Cecilia (Aisha Dee), who has never quite shaken the memories of losing her childhood best friend Emma some decades ago. But fate steps in one day when Cecilia bumps into Emma (played by Barlow) at a pharmacy, and her former bestie invites Cecilia to come out and celebrate her impending nuptials to her fiancée, Fran (Lucy Barrett), that night.

Nick Boshier is developing ‘Beached Az’ sequel
David Webster
Nick Boshier.

Nick Boshier and co-creators Anthony MacFarlane and Jarod Green are developing a long-form series of their animated comedy Beached Az.

That will be a sequel to Beached Aziversary, which Robot Army produced last year for Facebook, YouTube and Instagram, marking the 10th anniversary since Beached Az premiered on the ABC.

The 10 x 3′ online series followed the bizarre adventures of a philosophical, Kiwi-accented whale and his cocaine-addicted, murderous seagull friend. The unlikely couple had a steamy love affair which spawned a love child.

As part of the re-boot, the team launched a beer range, Beached Az Brew, in partnership with Sydney-based brewery Modus Operandi. A significant percentage of profits goes to charities which clean up beaches around Australia.

As lead writer Boshier is crafting the treatment and pilot for the Beached Az TV series with David Webster’s Cheeky Little Media and Ian Collie’s Easy Tiger.

“I thought...

Daniel Monks
Daniel Monks takes centre stage again – in London
Daniel Monks
Daniel Monks.

After making his feature film debut in director Stevie Cruz-Martin’s Pulse, Daniel Monks moved to London in 2018 because he figured the UK offered more career opportunities.

That proved to be a smart decision as the actor made his West End debut this year as the lead in Teenage Dick – and then went straight into rehearsals for a contemporary re-imagining of the classic Chekhov play The Seagull.

In the adaptation by Anya Reiss which premieres at Playhouse Theatre on March 11, he will play Konstantin, an aspiring playwright who is smitten with Nina (Game of Thrones’ Emilia Clarke).

Indira Varma, another GoT alum, will play his mother, the celebrated actress Arkadina, with Tom Rhys Harries as Trigorin, who steals Nina away from Konstantin.

Monks, whose right side has been paralysed since a spinal cord tumour was removed when he was 11, is thrilled to be playing an able-bodied character and alongside such a stellar cast.

Ratidzo Mambo takes charge of her career
Ratidzo Mambo.

Last year Ratidzo Mambo figured she wasn’t being offered the type of roles she wanted and so she made a pivotal decision.

The Zimbabwean-born actor and former sales agent and distribution consultant resolved to take her fate into her own hands by becoming a creative producer, developing her own TV and film projects.

“I’ve had to learn how to multi-task because acting jobs are scarce and the types of roles I want to do are seldom offered to me,” Rati tells If via Skype from Bali, where she is finishing the bibles and treatments for a bunch of projects.

“Rather than blame people or live in a space of negativity, I have to take accountability. I have a lot to say and I am a storyteller as well.”

With the help of her Us manager, Fictional Entity’s Krista Carpenter (a former head of development at...
