‘Livescreamers’ Now Available on Blu-ray and VOD; ‘Stay Alive’ for the Social Media Generation!
Image
After earning rave reviews on the festival scene from many including Bloody Disgusting’s Meagan Navarro and Matt Donato, gaming horror movie Livescreamers was released today.

Michelle Iannantuono’s Livescreamers is now available on Blu-ray and VOD outlets.

This timely take on screenlife found footage follows an ensemble of video gamers led by Michael Smallwood, Christopher Trindade (Worst Laid Plans), and Ryan Laplante (Holy Hell). After taking home the George A. Romero Fellowship at Salem Horror, and touring festivals including Panic Fest, Unnamed Footage, and Nevermore, the film currently sits at a fresh 89% on Rotten Tomatoes.

In Livescreamers, a group of content creators are pitted against each other by a gruesome video game with lethal stakes.

In addition to taking audiences on a thrilling ride, the horror film tackles issues of parasocial relationships, corporate greed, and the crushing unsustainability of online creation.

A Region Free Blu-ray is available directly from Octopunk Media’s store page,...

‘Livescreamers’ Review – Virtual Haunted House Movie Tackles the Perils of Online Content Creation
Image
As Screenlife storytelling transitions into the livestream era, movies like Michelle Iannantuono’s Livescreamers have me most excited. Early Screenlife films like Unfriended and The Den read like one-takers but are computer-set events like someone recorded their computer monitor or laptop screen. What Livescreamers offers — or examples like Spree, Deadstream, and #chadgetstheaxe — is the propulsive energy of a continuous stream devolving into chaos. Creators who put on celebrity identities face dreadful realities, not the protective online bubbles they’ve built where their antics draw millions of views. Livescreamers cherrypicks elements of Stay Alive, House on Haunted Hill, Unfriended, and cringy video game playthrough streams to create something horrifying that both sells its chills and comments on the vulnerable current state of livestream culture.

Low-budget restraints might hold back specific effects, and the film’s narrative throughline is a little wonky in spots, but what Iannantuono accomplishes comes from a place of authenticity.

Pompo: The Cinéphile (2021)
New US Trailer for Eccentric Movie Geek Anime 'Pompo the Cinephile'
Pompo: The Cinéphile (2021)
"Occasionally an entire story will unfold in your mind when you meet that special someone." GKids US has unveiled a new official US trailer for the Japanese anime movie Pompo the Cinephile, which opened in Japan last summer. The US debut is coming up later in April with a special two-night event to catch in theaters. Pompo the Cinephile (originally 映画大好きポンポさん) is a rollicking, exuberant ode to the power of the movies, and the joys and heartbreak of the creative process, as a new director and his team devote their lives to the pursuit of a "masterpiece." Fueled by the excitement from the film's domestic release in Japan, a crowdfunding campaign to create a 35mm print of the feature achieved its fundraising goals of ¥10,000,000 in just eleven days. Original voices: Konomi Kohara, Hiroya Shimizu, and Akio Ôtsuka. The English-language dub has the voices of Christopher Trindade, Brianna Gentilella, Anne Yatco,...
