Fantasy Writer Brandon Sanderson Speaks Out on 'Wheel of Time's Cancellation After "Being Largely Ignored" by the Series
Image
Prime Video’s treatment of The Wheel of Time the last month has been one of the more disappointing stories of the year thus far, and yet another creative involved with the show has broken their silence. Amazon announced near the end of May that it would not be moving forward with a fourth season of The Wheel of Time, despite cast and creators involved with the show expressing a desire to return and continue the story. One of the creatives involved with the series is Brandon Sanderson, the acclaimed fantasy author who finished The Wheel of Time novel series following original author Robert Jordan’s passing in 2007. Sanderson spoke about the cancellation during a video on his YouTube channel, even expressing frustration with how certain elements of the fantasy series were handled:

"I do think it's a shame, as while I had my problems with the show, it had...

The Wheel of Time: 4 characters who die much earlier on the show than in the books
Image
Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time book series has been successfully translated into a vastly entertaining television series on Prime Video, one that just got cancelled. The first four books from this 14-book series have been crammed into three seasons and just 24 episodes, and many changes have been made to the source material.

It was inevitable that changes would be made when adapting this enormous story to a new medium. Some of the changes have made sense and some have not. One of the biggest changes are the character deaths. There have been several surprising deaths that do not follow the timeline set forth in the books. Some of these wouldn't have impacted the overall story much, but others are drastic changes that prevent the story from progressing along the same path.

For instance, take the case of Uno Nomesta, a Shienaran soldier sent out with Rand, Matt, and...

‘The Wheel of Time’ Canceled After 3 Seasons at Prime Video
Image
“The Wheel of Time” has run out its run at Prime Video. The Rosamund Pike-led adaptation of the fantasy novel series by Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson will not return for Season 4 at the streaming platform, TheWrap has learned.

The news comes after Prime Video announced the renewal of its other big-budget drama series “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” for Season 3. Amid industry contraction, high-budget fantasy dramas seem prone for the chopping block across linear and streaming. “The Wheel of Time” is believed to have been too expensive to justify given its viewership performance.

“The Wheel Of Time” launched strong, becoming Prime Video’s most-watched series premiere of 2021 and one of the platform’s top debuts of all time. Season 3 saw its viewership slip, leaving Nielsen’s top 10 originals chart after three weeks, before making one last appearance after the launch of its finale.

“The Wheel of Time” stars Pike,...

‘The Wheel Of Time’ Canceled By Prime Video After 3 Seasons
Image
Exclusive: Prime Video will not be renewing The Wheel of Time for a fourth season. The decision, which comes more than a month after the Season 3 finale was released April 17, followed lengthy deliberations. As often is the case in the current economic environment, the reasons were financial as the series is liked creatively by the streamer’s executives.

The TV adaptation of the book series by Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson, co-produced by Sony Pictures TV and Amazon MGM Studios, is a high-end, pricey fantasy drama, which ushered in the genre on Prime Video, later joined by The Lord Of the Rings: The Rings Of Power.

Starring Rosamund Pike, The Wheel Of Time got off to a strong start in 2021 as Prime Video’s most watched series premiere of the year and one of the platform’s Top 5 series launches of all time.

Three seasons in, the series has remained...

'The Wheel of Time' Showrunner Teases a Very Different Season 4
Image
Not long after The Wheel of Time showrunner likened the series to Game of Thrones in a Season 4 update, Rafe Judkins is back to deliver yet another outlook on the show’s future. The Wheel of Time Season 3 wrapped up in an explosive finale on April 17, “He Who Comes with the Dawn,” but the show has yet to be renewed for Season 4 at Prime Video, despite an extremely positive reception thus far. The fantasy series is based on the popular novels by Robert Jordan, and there’s still plenty of story left to tell. During a recent interview with THR, The Wheel of Time showrunner Rafe Judkins previewed the future of the franchise, promising a different Season 4 if the crew gets the chance to make it, but also citing differences in the TV landscape:

"That is the same thing that I’ve been sort of asking Amazon — what is the end game for the show?...

The Wheel of Time boss holds out hope that this character isn't really dead
Image
The third season of The Wheel of Time ended with a pair of back-to-back bangers: first came "Goldeneyes," which featured a huge battle scene in the Two Rivers. Then we got the finale, "He Who Comes With The Dawn," which brought several plotlines to thrilling climaxes.

These episodes also included some major swerves from The Wheel of Time books, especially when it came to killing off major characters. (Turn back now if you don't want Spoilers.) In "Goldeneyes," gentle giant Loial (Hammed Animashaun) apparently plunged to his death while trying to keep an army of Trollocs from using a Waygate to invade the Two Rivers. And in the finale, we got two unexpected deaths: the Forsaken sorceress Moghedien (Laia Costa) killed fellow Forsaken Sammael (Cameron Jack) in an act of villain-on-villain crime. And in the biggest surprise of all, Siuan Sanche (Sophie Okonedo), the leader of the Aes Sedai, was...

“It Gets Better as It Goes On”: ‘The Wheel of Time’ Creator Compares the Series to ‘Game of Thrones’ in New Season 4 Update
Image
The Wheel of Time Season 3 is now streaming on Prime Video in its entirety, and showrunner Rafe Judkins is already looking forward to Season 4. Although it’s yet to be officially renewed, it’s heavily expected that The Wheel of Time will get the chance to come back for a fourth season. The show has been a major hit for Prime Video throughout its first three seasons, even standing with some of the biggest shows on the platform, like Alan Ritchson’s Reacher and Bosch: Legacy. During a recent interview with EW, Judkins spoke about the future of The Wheel of Time, and even mentioned what he thinks gives it a leg up on another iconic fantasy franchise, George R.R. Martin’s Game of Thrones:

I can say that we've put a lot of pieces in place at the end of season 3 to tell some of the most iconic stories from book six,...

‘The Wheel of Time’ Showrunner Comments on the Season 3 Final Episodes’ Shocking Changes
Image
The Wheel of Time has been a quiet hit for Amazon since its 2021 debut. Since then, the series has aired three eight-episode seasons, and the most recent season ended on April 17, 2025 with a shocking final twist.

Based on the series of the same name started by Robert Jordan and now being continued by Brandon Sanderson, the series has introduced a number of changes from the books, and two major changes took place in the Season 3’s final episodes.

In light of that, showrunner Rafe Judkins talked to the press about these major twists and provided the fans with an explanation as to why the series divulged so much from the original books.

‘The Wheel of Time’ Boss Unpacks Season 3 Finale Death and Making Big Changes From the Books
Image
Note: This story contains spoilers from “The Wheel of Time” Season 3, Episode 8.

“The Wheel of Time” capped a successful, momentum-gathering third season with Rand (Josha Stradowski) proclaiming himself to the Aiel, Mat (Dónal Finn) confronting the series’ “horror elves” for the first time and a second book-deviating death in as many weeks – all to showrunner Rafe Judkins’ plan.

For many viewers, Season 3 of “The Wheel of Time” was a major leap forward in the series compared to the first two entries. With the show earning the strongest reviews of the show’s run by the end of the season, Judkins told TheWrap it was a part of his initial pitch that the series would really hit its stride in the third year — which is proving true.

“This is the point in the books where they became an explosive worldwide success,” he said. “It’s the part of the books where...

USS Callister director Toby Haynes hopes to complete the trilogy
Image
The seventh season of the anthology series Black Mirror dropped onto the Netflix streaming service earlier this month – and among its six episodes, for the first time in Black Mirror history, there was a sequel! The season 7 episode USS Callister: Into Infinity is a follow-up to the popular season 4 episode USS Callister, and Toby Haynes, who directed both of the USS Callister episodes, has revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that he’s hoping to make this a trilogy!

Created and written by Charlie Brooker, Black Mirror is an anthology series that taps into our collective unease with the modern world, with each stand-alone episode a sharp, suspenseful tale exploring themes of contemporary techno-paranoia leading to an unforgettable – and sometimes unsettling – conclusion. Without questioning it, technology has transformed all aspects of our lives; in every home; on every desk; in every palm – a plasma screen; a monitor; a Smartphone – a Black...

Isabella Bucceri tells us about playing Faile on The Wheel of Time (Exclusive)
Image
Yesterday The Wheel of Time unleashed one of its biggest, craziest episodes yet, and we're still reeling. "Goldeneyes" saw a horde of vicious Trollocs descend upon the sleepy town of Emond's Field, where Perrin Aybara (Marcus Rutherford) led a desperate defense. The Battle of the Two Rivers is an important event in Robert Jordan's novel The Shadow Rising, and it's become an equally important moment for The Wheel of Time television series.

Perrin may have been the heart of "Goldeneyes," but he was far from the only major character caught up in the Battle of the Two Rivers. The Aes Sedai Alanna (Priyanka Bose) and her Warder Maksim (Taylor Napier) both played crucial roles; the Ogier Loial (Hammed Animashaun) and Aiel Maidens of the Spear Bain (Ragga Ragnars) and Chiad (Maja Simonsen) launched a daring assault on the nearby Waygate; the Whitecloaks got into the thick of the fighting...

The Wheel of Time cast and crew address [Spoiler]'s premature death
Image
The latest episode of The Wheel of Time, "Goldeneyes," featured a big battle in the Two Rivers, with Perrin Aybara (Marcus Rutherford) at its center. But there were plenty of people involved. Take Loial (Hammed Animashaun), the soft-spoken gentle gentle giant. Loial is an Ogier, a race of beings responsible for creating the Ways, a magical network of roads that connects places from all over the continent. In "Goldeneyes," Trollocs were using the Ways to get into the Two Rivers and attack the people who lived here, and it fell to Loial to block their passage. He tried to destroy the Waygate itself, but found he couldn't. Instead, he collapsed the bridge in front of it, plunging both himself and the Trolloc army into the depths below.

Is this the end of Loial? In The Wheel of Time books, the answer is a firm no; he lives beyond the Battle of the Two Rivers.

Does Loial die in The Wheel of Time books?
Image
The article contains Major Spoilers for The Wheel of Time season 3, Episode 7.

Trollocs invaded the idyllic Two Rivers in the latest episode of The Wheel of Time, and not everyone made it out alive. "Goldeneyes" was a barnburner of an episode where Perrin Aybara (Marcus Rutherford) led the people of the Two Rivers into battle, hoping to stave off the utter destruction of their home. Their situation seemed hopeless, because the Trollocs could get unending reinforcements from the nearby Waygate.

Luckily for the people of the Two Rivers, they had an expert on the Ways among them: Loial, the lovable and bookish Ogier played by Hammed Animashaun. Loial is one of Perrin's oldest allies, and when the threat of the Trollocs loomed over the village, he proposed a daring plan: together with the Aiel warriors Bain (Ragga Ragnars) and Chiad (Maja Simonsen), he would go to the Waygate and permanently close it,...

‘The Wheel of Time’ Star Marcus Rutherford Unpacks the Battle of Emond’s Field, That Unexpected Death
Image
Note: The following story contains spoilers from “The Wheel of Time” Season 3 Episode 7

“The Wheel of Time” went big for the penultimate episode of Season 3 as war came to the Two Rivers.

Season 3, Episode 7 of Prime Video’s fantasy adaptation spent the entire episode brutally bringing to life one of the most iconic battles from Robert Jordan’s novels – the Battle of Emond’s Field. Perrin (Marcus Rutherford) returned home hoping to find some peace and instead found his village beset by Trollocs – vicious animal-like monsters – and Darkfriends, those who support the return of the Dark One. He spent most of the season preparing Emond’s Field’s residents for an inevitable fight – and the show spared no expense bringing the battle to life.

“We’ve done battles before in Season 1 and 2, but there’s a lot of narrative that has to go through them,” Rutherford told TheWrap. “Like we...

The Wheel of Time season 3 episode 7 review: "Goldeneyes"
Image
The penultimate episode of The Wheel of Time season 3 is here, and it's a big one. Like the show's mid-season barnburner "The Road to the Spear," this latest episode is focused entirely on one location. This time it's the Two Rivers, where Perrin Aybara (Marcus Rutherford) is leading the folk of his idyllic home in a desperate battle against a horde of Trollocs.

The Wheel of Time has had big action scenes before, but "Goldeneyes" easily takes the crown as the best-produced battle episode of the show to date. It also serves as a great way to highlight Perrin and those around him, which is much needed for everyone's favorite Wolfbrother at this point in the series. The Battle of the Two Rivers is a crucible which changes Perrin forever, and it's a crucial sequence for the show to get right.

Full Spoilers for "Goldeneyes" beyond this point.

The Wheel of Time Season 3 Episode 7 Review Shows That the Series Is Clearing the Board for an Epic Ending
Image
It’s like The Wheel of Time doesn’t want us to forget for a second that it is always going to bring one pulse-pounding episode after another. Check off another masterpiece episode for this hit Amazon series in the can.

The hardest part about reviewing a show like this one is that it is tough to pay attention to note-taking. The story is always one scene away from another high-stakes battle.

You’d be forgiven if you thought The Wheel of Time Season 3 Episode 7 was the season finale — it certainly felt like it. Honestly, you have to be part masochistic to watch this show.

How many times has The Wheel of Time had us at the edge of our seats, wondering if this is the end of the line for a character? Or, is this the moment where the Dark One unexpectedly gains some footing?...

3 things in The Wheel of Time season 3 that are working well (and 2 that aren't)
Image
The third season of The Wheel of Time is off to a fantastic start on Prime Video. The streaming service released three episodes last week, and they didn’t disappoint.

Although the show is scrambling the events from Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time book series a bit, these episodes did a good job of making that change relatively seamless without losing any momentum built up during the action-packed finale to season 2.

Without focusing too much on the differences between the books and the show, audiences can appreciate the visual smorgasbord the show delivers with aplomb. So far, The Wheel of Time is a prime example of how a quality fantasy story can be told on the small screen.

The Wheel of Time season 3 episode 2 recap and review: To the Aiel Waste
Image
In the explosive premiere of The Wheel of Time season 3, Rand and Moiraine begin their journey to the Aiel Waste instead of Tear with Egwene, Lan, and Aviendha in tow. Meanwhile, the rest of those in Tar Valon and beyond deal with the fallout of the Black Ajah’s attack on The White Tower.

The Wheel of Time season 3 episode 2, "A Question of Crimson," begins many years earlier as the Queen of Andor, Morgase of House Trakand (Olivia Williams), murders those who would challenge her throne at Elaida Sedai’s (Shohreh Aghdashloo) urging. You might recognize the Trakand name because Morgase is actually Elayne’s mom.

Queen Morgase arrives in Tar Valon

Shortly after, Queen Morgase arrives in Tar Valon with the Prince Consort of the Queen, Lord Gaebril (Nuno Lopes) and Elaida Sedai of the Red Ajah, along with Elayne’s Prince brothers. After scoring a few moments with the Amyrlin Seat,...

Image
At long last, The Wheel of Time has returned for its third season on Prime Video. At 69 minutes, "To Race The Shadow" is a meaty season premiere that sets a promising stage for the season to come. We've a lot to discuss, so let's get right into the review. Full Spoilers for The Wheel of Time Episode 301 beyond this point.

Mat gets a big head in new look at The Wheel of Time season 3
Image
The third season of The Wheel of Time is right around the corner, and Prime Video is getting people primed. Just today, it dropped a new video spotlight the character of Mat Cauthon, played by Dónal Finn. Mat spent much of the second season trying to dodge the responsibilities that come with being a ta'veren pattern weaver and the best friend of Rand al'Thor, the Dragon Reborn. But he got a hero moment in the season finale when he blew the Horn of Valere and summoned heroes of old to help fight back the invading Seanchan. That might have been one of my favorite moments of the season!

In the new clip, we see that Mat has let his fame as the blower of the horn go to his head. He's even getting a portrait of himself drawn with him holding the horn! And in a few behind-the-scenes shots, Dónal Finn drips with cheeky arrogance.

Black Mirror season 7 image shows Cristin Milioti in the USS Callister sequel
Image
A seventh season of the anthology series Black Mirror will be making its way to the Netflix streaming service sometime in 2025, and it has been previously revealed that Black Mirror season 7 will consist of six episodes, one of which will be a sequel to the popular season 4 episode USS Callister. Now, an image has made its way online that shows returning USS Callister cast member Cristin Milioti (who was recently seen in The Penguin) in the new episode. The Wheel Of Time Season 3 Casts 4 Pivotal, Long-Awaited Book Characters
Image
The Wheel of Time season 3 has cast four pivotal and long-awaited characters, revealing new information about the upcoming episodes. Adapted for television by executive producer and showrunner Rafe Judkins, The Wheel of Time season 3 debuts globally on Prime Video on March 13. The latest installment will see the threats against the Light increasing. As the White Tower is divided, old enemies return. Despite all this uncertainty, Rand (Josha Stradowski) feels unconnected to his past and his corrupted power grows stronger. It poses the question of whether the Dragon will turn to the dark.

Prime Video has confirmed that Wheel of Time season 3 has added four new cast members: Olivia Williams, Luke Fetherston, Callum Kerr, and Nuno Lopes, with all four portraying the royal family of the kingdom of Andor. ‘The Wheel of Time’ Season 3 Casts Olivia Williams as Queen Morgase
Image
“The Wheel of Time” Season 3 has assembled the remainder of House Trakand with Olivia Williams at the head.

Williams – who is currently appearing on HBO’s “Dune: Prophecy” – has been cast as Morgase Trakand, the Queen of Andor and mother to Elayne (Ceara Coveney). Queen Morgase sits on the throne of Andor, a seat she didn’t inherit through succession but rather won it through political savvy and ruthlessness against a handful of political rivals when the country was left without an heir. Rather than become a tyrant after her victory, Morgase is considered one of the greatest rulers in Andor’s history.

Williams isn’t the only new casting for House Trakand. Season 3 also adds Luke Fetherston as Lord Galad and Callum Kerr as Lord Gawyn, brothers to Elayne and sons of Queen Morgase. Galad, the younger of the two, is a renowned fighter known for being protective of Elayne,...

15 Best Shows Like The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power
Image
The spinoff of the iconic fantasy series, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, has marked yet another extraordinary chapter in the ongoing golden age of fantasy television. With its enormous budget, its sprawling story, and its evocation of one of the most well-established and beloved mythologies in fantasy literature, it's become a benchmark against which other series are measured. While The Rings of Power's season 1 ending left many questions for season 2 to answer, watching the series is reminiscent of other great fantasy TV shows that explore similar themes.

Though the world J.R.R. Tolkien imagined is full of magic and mystical creatures, much of the conflict portrayed in The Rings of Power is relatable to human history.

The number of other fantasy and science fiction series with which The Rings of Power can be compared is only growing, as there are amazing fantasy TV shows with satisfying endings,...

Black Mirror season 7 episodes will be like Og Black Mirror, gut punches and all
Image
A seventh season of the anthology series Black Mirror will be making its way to the Netflix streaming service sometime in 2025 – and while episodes of the show have branched out into different genres as it has gone along, during an interview with Deadline, series creator Charlie Brooker said that the episodes of Black Mirror season 7 will be like the “Og Black Mirror.”

Brooker said, “We’re doing some things we’ve not done before. People can expect quite a lot of emotion and, hopefully, a good mix of chills. We did a couple of horror stories in Season 6, which we label as Red Mirror. But this time around, the episodes are all, in a way, like Og Black Mirror. I wrote one script, and the general consensus was that it was one of the bleakest, heaviest gut punches yet. There’s also techy episodes and ones that are making people cry.

Happy Valley, Top Boy And More Score At The BAFTA TV Awards 2024
Image
Awards season may well be over for another year in the world of film, with the Oscars, BAFTAs, and Golden Globes just a distant memory now. But on Sunday evening, one of the biggest nights in British TV, the BAFTA TV Awards — this year hosted by comedians Rob Beckett and Ramesh Ranganathan — took place at London’s Royal Festival Hall. And on a night where the two most nominated shows, Black Mirror and The Crown, failed to snag a single win, Happy Valley, Top Boy, and The Sixth Commandment enjoyed great success in key categories, each taking home two awards apiece.

On the night, Sarah Lancashire won Leading Actress for her all-timer of a turn as police sergeant Catherine Cawood in Happy Valley, her second BAFTA for the same role. The show also snagged the public-voted Memorable Moment award for Catherine and Tommy Lee Royce’s (James Norton) remarkable final kitchen showdown.

BAFTA TV Awards Winners: Matthew Macfadyen, Netflix’s ‘Top Boy’ Take Home Major Prizes; ‘The Crown’s Final Season Leaves Empty-Handed – Full List
Image
Updated with complete winners list: Despite being up for four acting category awards, The Crown‘s final season left the BAFTA TV Awards empty handed tonight in London.

Elizabeth Debicki, Lesley Manville, Salim Daw and Dominic West were all snubbed, as the the likes of Matthew Macfadyen, Jasmine Jobson, Timothy Spall and Sarah Lancashire all triumphed and the Netflix show went out quietly.

There was also a major surprise in the International category, where little-known French drama Class Act beat the likes of Beef, The Bear and The Last of Us to win the prize. Among the most shocked was the show’s star Laurent Lafitte, who urged the audience to find and watch his show — to the amusement of the audience.

The first award of the night saw Jobson beat off competition from actresses from The Crown, Succession and The Last of Us to win Best Supporting Actress for...

You can watch the announcement video in the embed above.

Black Mirror season 7 will consist of six episodes, one of which will be a sequel to the popular season 4 episode USS Callister! We even have a short synopsis for that one: “Robert Daly is dead, but for the crew of the USS Callister, their problems are just beginning.“

There was a rumor floating around a couple months ago that USS Callister would be getting its own three episode spin-off series. That has never been confirmed, but at least now we know for sure that there’s going to be some USS Callister action in the new season of Black Mirror.
