On Rotten Tomatoes, Drop has garnered a debut score of 100%. SXSW 2025 Review: Drop is a Thrilling First Date Mystery
Image
The art of the "crowd pleaser" is alive and well in Christopher Landon's noose-tight Drop. Writers Jillian Jacobs and Chris Roach pen a clever blend of technological paranoia and first-date anxieties in a one-location pressure cooker. The vibe is deliciously tense: think Grand Piano or Red Eye. Alfred Hitchcock is smiling on Down, and with good reason—it's tight, intense, and pure popcorn entertainment. Landon's latest is why we go to the movies: adrenaline-fueled escapism.

Meghann Fahy stars as Violet, a single Chicagoian mother with a traumatic past. After chatting with Brandon Sklenar's bachelor (Henry) via a dating app for a few months, she finally agrees to an in-person date. After some wardrobe advice from "Auntie" Jen (Violett Beane), she's ready to leave her son Toby (Jacob Robinson) and heads to Palate—a swanky 38th-floor fine dining establishment. After a few minutes at the bar, Henry arrives,...

First Trailer for ‘Drop’ Teases a Thriller with a Killer Twist
Image
The first trailer for Drop, the latest thriller from director Christopher Landon, has arrived, teasing a tension-filled rollercoaster that blends technological paranoia with classic whodunnit twists. Starring Emmy nominee Meghann Fahy (The White Lotus) and Brandon Sklenar (1923), the film is set to hit UK cinemas on 11 April 2025.

Fahy leads the cast as Violet, a widowed mother cautiously navigating her first date in years. Her nerves about the evening are briefly eased when her date, Henry (played by Sklenar), turns out to be both charming and handsome. However, what begins as a promising encounter quickly spirals into terror. Violet receives a series of anonymous, increasingly menacing messages on her phone. These “drops” start as unsettling memes but escalate into chilling threats against her young son and sister, who are at home under the watch of an unseen figure captured on Violet’s security cameras.

The stakes rise when Violet is ordered...

“Everyone’s a Suspect” in the Trailer for Christopher Landon’s Drop
Image
Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse, Happy Death Day, Freaky—Christopher Landon directed some of my absolute favorite films of the 2010s, so I'm always excited to see what he's cooking up next behind the camera, and his latest movie, Drop (written by Jillian Jacobs & Chris Roach), is certainly no exception. Ahead of its April 11th theatrical release, the official trailer for Drop promises that "first dates can be a nightmare," especially when technology-fueled blackmail is involved.

From blockbuster producers Michael Bay and Jason Blum and acclaimed horror director Christopher Landon comes a blood-chilling, original fast paced thriller Drop.

'Drop' Trailer Reveals New Horror From 'Happy Death Day' Director
Image
A lot can be said about first dates, but that takes on an added layer of problems in the first trailer for Drop, directed by Happy Death Day's Christopher Landon. It's already hard enough dealing with the awkwardness of a first date, but when you throw murder in the mix, dating horror stories take on a whole new meaning.

The premise puts an interesting spin on what can go wrong during a first date. Violet (Meghann Fahy) is a widowed mother who has decided to take the chance of going on her first date in years. Despite being nervous about meeting Henry (Brandon Sklenar), she is pleasantly surprised by his handsome good looks and his charm when she arrives at an upscale restaurant for their first date. Everything appears to be running smoothly, but soon terror takes over. This is from the creative mind of Happy Death Day, after all.

Drop trailer sees Meghann Fahy being terrorized by an unseen tormentor on a date
Matilda Firth and Julia Garner in Wolf Man (2025)
Blumhouse kicked off its 2025 horror lineup with Wolf Man in January. Next, the psychological horror film The Woman in the Yard will be released in March, followed by the upcoming horror thriller Drop in April. To build excitement for Drop's release, Blumhouse just released the gripping official trailer for the film. We shared it above.

If you got the chance to see Wolf Man in theaters, you likely caught the trailer for Drop. Moviegoers were treated to a chilling glimpse of the upcoming horror thriller during the previews. Now, everyone has the opportunity to see the full trailer online. After watching the 2-minute and 41-second trailer, I have so many thoughts. What I will say is that this movie will make you rethink whether dating is worth the risk, especially if a simple date could put you in grave danger.

Drop Trailer From Blumhouse and Universal Pictures
Image
Universal Pictures has revealed the new trailer for Drop, the upcoming thriller from Blumhouse and director Christopher Landon. The film will open in theaters on April 11.

Drop has been rated PG-13 by the MPA for strong violent content, suicide, some strong language, and sexual references.

First dates are nerve-wracking enough. Going on a first date while an unnamed, unseen troll pings you personal memes that escalate from annoying to homicidal? Blood-chilling.

Director Christopher Landon returns to the thriller genre with the playful, keep-you-guessing intensity he perfected in the Happy Death Day films with this of-the-moment whodunnit where everyone in the vicinity is a suspect… or victim. Drop is jointly produced by blockbuster genre houses Blumhouse and Platinum Dunes.

Drop trailer: Blumhouse, Platinum Dunes, & Christopher Landon thriller reaches theatres in April
Christopher Landon at an event for Burning Palms (2010)
Freaky and Happy Death Day director Christopher Landon was supposed to be working on Scream 7 – but that project turned out to be so troubled, he had to activate his ejector seat and get out of there. While he has since been replaced on Scream 7 by Kevin Williamson, he has been busy lining up other genre projects, signing on to direct the werewolf thriller Big Bad and the “fast-paced thriller” Drop. Coming our way from Blumhouse and Platinum Dunes, the production company team that has previously brought us the Purge franchise, Drop moved forward first, and is aiming for an April 11th theatrical release. With that date swiftly approaching, a trailer for Drop has dropped and can be seen in the embed above.

Written by Jillian Jacobs and Chris Roach, a writing duo that has previously worked with Blumhouse on the horror projects Truth or Dare and Fantasy Island,...

Image
Universal Pictures has just announced (via Deadline) release dates – in some cases, new release dates for movies that are shifting around on their schedule – for five upcoming horror films… and every one of them happens to be a Blumhouse production. The movies in question are The Woman in the Yard, Drop, The Black Phone 2, M3GAN 2.0, and Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 – and we’re about to go through them one-by-one.

First up is the thriller The Woman in the Yard, which was once set to reach theatres on January 10, 2025, but was bumped out of that date so the Blumhouse reboot of Wolf Man could move from this October to January 17th. Jaume Collet-Serra is directing the film, which stars Danielle Deadwyler of The Devil to Pay and Till, Okwui Okpokwasili of The Exorcist: Believer and I Am Legend, and Russell Hornsby of The Hate U Give and Fences.

Leah Remini Isn't Saving 'Kevin Can Wait'
2017-10-24T07:17:06-07:00Leah Remini Isn't Saving 'Kevin Can Wait'

If the producers of Kevin Can Wait hoped that firing Erinn Hayes and hiring Leah Remini would generate excitement among fans, they've got to be disappointed. Not only have ratings for the series not improved since the changes were made, they've actually declined steadily over the first three episodes of the season. Many fans were confused and angered by the decision to fire Hayes, and it didn't help that the loss of her character was almost totally ignored in the series' scripts.

While one supporting actor on the series claims that the ouster of Hayes was planned all along, star Kevin James has admitted the producers made the change because they were "out of ideas" for the series. It's an extremely bad sign when producers are out of ideas for a series before the first season is even over.
