The film features Fahy (The White Lotus and The Perfect Couple) as Violet, a widowed mom who’s trying to get back out on the dating scene. She goes on her first date in years at a fancy restaurant with Sklenar’s (It Ends with Us and Yellowstone: 1923) character, Henry. This year’s SXSW Film Festival, taking place in Austin, TX, has unveiled its lineup this afternoon and it’s another insanely packed year for horror premieres.

While the Midnighter section is dedicated to the genre lovers, SXSW 2025 has filled its Headliner section and beyond with buzzy, highly anticipated titles including Flying Lotus‘s sci-fi horror movie Ash, Christopher Landon‘s ode to Brian De Palma in Drop, and A24’s Death of a Unicorn. Also look for Clown in a Cornfield, the film adaptation of Adam Cesare’s YA slasher novel.

A lot can be said about first dates, but that takes on an added layer of problems in the first trailer for Drop, directed by Happy Death Day's Christopher Landon. It's already hard enough dealing with the awkwardness of a first date, but when you throw murder in the mix, dating horror stories take on a whole new meaning.

The premise puts an interesting spin on what can go wrong during a first date. Violet (Meghann Fahy) is a widowed mother who has decided to take the chance of going on her first date in years. Despite being nervous about meeting Henry (Brandon Sklenar), she is pleasantly surprised by his handsome good looks and his charm when she arrives at an upscale restaurant for their first date. Everything appears to be running smoothly, but soon terror takes over. This is from the creative mind of Happy Death Day, after all.

Blumhouse kicked off its 2025 horror lineup with Wolf Man in January. Next, the psychological horror film The Woman in the Yard will be released in March, followed by the upcoming horror thriller Drop in April. Universal Pictures has just announced (via Deadline) release dates – in some cases, new release dates for movies that are shifting around on their schedule – for five upcoming horror films… and every one of them happens to be a Blumhouse production. The movies in question are The Woman in the Yard, Drop, The Black Phone 2, M3GAN 2.0, and Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 – and we’re about to go through them one-by-one.

First up is the thriller The Woman in the Yard, which was once set to reach theatres on January 10, 2025, but was bumped out of that date so the Blumhouse reboot of Wolf Man could move from this October to January 17th. Jaume Collet-Serra is directing the film, which stars Danielle Deadwyler of The Devil to Pay and Till, Okwui Okpokwasili of The Exorcist: Believer and I Am Legend, and Russell Hornsby of The Hate U Give and Fences.

Universal Pictures on Thursday announced release dates for three major genre titles, revealing at the same time that two of its most anticipated sequels will shift on the calendar.

Blumhouse’s thriller The Woman in the Yard has been set to open on Friday, March 28, 2025, with Platinum Dunes and Blumhouse’s Drop debuting on Friday, April 11, 2025 and Blumhouse’s Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 to scare up box office on Friday, December 5, 2025.

If the producers of Kevin Can Wait hoped that firing Erinn Hayes and hiring Leah Remini would generate excitement among fans, they've got to be disappointed. Not only have ratings for the series not improved since the changes were made, they've actually declined steadily over the first three episodes of the season. Many fans were confused and angered by the decision to fire Hayes, and it didn't help that the loss of her character was almost totally ignored in the series' scripts.
