Michael B. Jordan first broke out on television with his role as Wallace in the inaugural season of HBO's highly acclaimed drama, The Wire (2002). He subsequently appeared as a series regular on the ABC soap opera All My Children (2003–2006) and later delivered a standout performance in the NBC sports drama Friday Night Lights (2009–2011).
In the past decade, Jordan has become best known for his collaborations with writer-director Ryan Coogler – including Fruitvale Station (2013), Creed (2015), Black Panther (2018), Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022), and Sinners (2025) – all of which earned him critical acclaim. He returned to his titular role in Creed II (2018) and Creed III (2023), the latter marking his directorial debut.
Jordan's broader filmography also includes roles in Chronicle (2012), That Awkward Moment (2014), Fantastic Four (2015), and Just Mercy (2019), in which he played civil rights lawyer Bryan Stevenson. However, it's Jordan's dystopian movie, adapted from an acclaimed book, that is seeing a resurgence on streaming, seven years after its initial release.

Comic book adaptations aren't just ruling the box office right now, they're also proving to be popular at home. The noir thriller series Revival is creeping up the streaming charts, as it nears the climax of its first season. The show opened to mostly positive reviews, and has been equally beloved by audiences. Revivalis based on the popular Image Comics title of the same name, written by Tim Seeley and illustrated by Mike Norton. Incidentally, it outperformed fellow geek-friendly titles such as Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and The Last of Us. According to JustWatch, Revival is the 25th-most-watched series right now.
The show has been as high as #2 on the JustWatch leader board, and has spent nearly 50 days on the top 100 list. Revival stars Melanie Scrofano as Detective Dana Cypress, who must solve a murder mystery in her rural Wisconsin town. Her job is made all the more difficult...

They are cruel, manipulative, vile, and also the reason we cannot look away. From serial killers like You’s Joe Goldberg to Oh Il-Nam in Squid Game, Netflix has introduced a wide range of bloodthirsty and terrifying villains that today occupy their own niche in the long line of truly unforgettable villains.
The villains on the streaming giants aren’t exactly the everyday bad guys that you usually come across in the entertainment industry, but they are the kind of characters who leave us stunned, sometimes conflicted, and often even rooting for the evil in them. Well, who do we have come to love these villains so much? Netflix has a tendency to not just create villains but craft monsters with depth, charisma, and realism, even if they might sometimes be far from real.

Music Box Films debuts Venice prize winner Familiar Touch, a fresh take on the process of aging, at Film Forum in NYC ahead of limited national expansion. Written and directed by Sarah Friedland in her feature debut, it stars Tony-winning stage actress Kathleen Chalfant as Ruth, an older woman with dementia who enters an assisted living facility where she must contend with new faces, routines and surroundings as her own identities and desires shift.
Ruth resists identifying with her aging neighbors but connects with care workers there (Carolyn Michelle and Andy McQueen) and is drawn towards her son (H. Jon Benjamin), whom she mistakes for a suitor. A former cook, Ruth finds agency preparing meals in the facility kitchen. She slides into younger selves as she embraces the sensory experiences of the community’s activities and daily life. But when the reality of her situation sinks in, Ruth feels betrayed...

In a sunny kitchen in California, Ruth prepares a sandwich with the muscle memory that only a lifetime allows. Bread is toasted and left to cool; dill is picked and chopped efficiently; sour cream, radish, and salmon are arranged to resemble a blooming flower. After going to get ready, she serves it to a man named Steve (H. Jon Benjamin) who she doesn’t seem to recognize. When he tells her he’s an architect, she responds, “My father builds homes. Maybe you’ll meet him one day.” Caught off-guard, her son can only offer a loving smile and say “I’d like that.”

Series creators Aaron B. Koontz and Luke Boyce took on quite an interesting challenge when adapting the best-selling Image Comics series, Revival, for TV. While comic book adaptations can often be hit or miss, the duo’s love for the story and for the comic medium seeps through the screen in a series that’s creepy, freaky, and even a little bit funny.
In the new series:
On one miraculous day in rural Wisconsin, the recently deceased suddenly rise from their graves. But this is no zombie story as the “revived” appear and act just like they once were. When local Officer and single mother Dana Cypress is unexpectedly thrown into the center of a brutal murder mystery of her own, she’s left to make sense of the chaos amidst a town gripped by fear and confusion where everyone, alive or undead, is a suspect.

After acclaimed showings at the Venice Film Festival and New York Film Festival last fall, Sarah Friedland’s Familiar Touch emerges as one of 2025’s great indie gems — sitting, as of time of writing, tied for the top spot on Metacritic’s highest-rated films of the year. Offering a beautifully nuanced approach to its well-trodden subject matter, Familiar Touch is the type of movie that will move you without feeling like it needlessly tugs at your heartstrings.
Familiar Touch Review
Familiar Touch follows Ruth, an octogenarian, who finds herself struggling to assimilate into her new life after moving into assisted living to receive additional care for her dementia. While Sarah Friedland’s feature debut hits several familiar beats, such as the protagonist struggling in her relationship with her adult child or rebelling against her own decline, it feels like a deconstruction of the preconceived notions we have of aging, whether...

Horror fans have started seeing an increased attempt by studios to adapt horror literature in all its forms. Revival is one of those special comics, and brought on director and producer Aaron B. Koontz to adapt the series. With his creative partner Luke Boyce, the two adapted the series for SyFy and brought together a very fun cast. FandomWire spoke to Koontz about the process of that adaptation, as well as his upcoming project, Shelby Oaks, with popular YouTuber Chris Stuckmann.

Wynonna Earp is back on the air... kind of. Melanie Scrofano, the titular star of the acclaimed supernatural western series that ended in 2021, has returned to Syfy to play a new enforcer of the law wrapped up in her own supernatural happenings in the new series, Revival. Instead of fighting the resurrected outlaws her great-great-grandfather gunned down years ago, however, she's now dealing with a murder mystery in a small Wisconsin town where the dead have risen from the Earth with their original personalities, memories, and appearances still intact. The first episode premiered on Thursday, but to get more viewers interested in the twisty new supernatural tale, SyFy has now made "Don't Tell Dad" available to watch for free on YouTube before the show gets into full swing.
Revival casts Scrofano as Dana Cypres, a local police officer and single mother who, like everyone else, is grappling with the fallout of "Revival Day.

What if the dead don't stay dead? Syfy's new drama series Revival is just the latest in a long line of supernatural horror shows to explore this premise, but it does have a unique twist that could set it apart from other similar zombie-esque series.
Based on the comic book series by Tim Seeley and Mike Norton, Revival is set in a rural small town Wausau, Wisconsin where the a bunch of formerly deceased people come back to life with seemingly no brain-eating tendencies. They're just... alive again, though there a couple of twists we'll get into later. What do you do when you've mourned someone and buried them, only to learn they've returned from the grave?
The series premieres thrusts us into this situation via a moratorium where a recently departed man is about to be cremated. But just as the flames start to lick his corpse, he returns to life,...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the Revival series premiere “Don’t Tell Dad.”] The Revival series premiere title is the one request that Em (Romy Weltman) has for her sister Dana (Melanie Scrofano) in the episode’s final moments following a major reveal about her. Revival begins with Dana, an officer and single mother, planning to leave town — and fighting with her father and boss, Wayne (David James Elliott) — when they’re distracted by reports of the dead coming back to life. These “Revivers” are seemingly normal, acting like their old selves, with no zombie behavior in sight … except for one. As scientist Ibrahim (Andy McQueen) discovers, Revivers heal from any injury inflicted post-death. And there’s at least one out there strong enough to bite through and kill a horse. Dana tracks down that Reviver and is attacked. Em intervenes to help her and is impaled in the process … but she’s okay because she’s,...

Well, this sure seems like it’s going to be a lot of fun.
Revival is right up my alley, giving all the vintage Syfy vibes that once earned the cabler a spot on my favorites list when the cable remote was my best friend.
And really, if you’re going to rise from the dead, do it in the most chaotic, scream-filled way possible. That’s the Revival way, and it kicks ass.
(Mathieu Savidant/Lavivier Productions/Syfy)
The series premiere kicks off with a woman recording what should be a simple cremation.
But when the flames fire up, the electricity goes haywire, the body inside starts screaming, and — bam — we’re in unholy territory. Every corpse in every drawer starts clamoring to be let out like it’s a Friday night in hell.
There’s no polite knock on death’s door here; the dead are busting it down with a vengeance,...

Revival, Syfy’s new horror-noir-dramedy thing, is both very much like a lot of shows we’ve seen recently and not.
It is yet another 2025 series about, to paraphrase my colleague’s summary of The Better Sister, two estranged sisters simultaneously bonded and torn apart by trauma — only in this case, the circumstances of their reunion involve the dead suddenly coming back to life. Which might suggest zombie action à la The Last of Us, except these resurrected have no evident interest in eating anyone’s brains, just in returning to their old lives.
One of said sisters (Melanie Scrofano’s Dana) is a police detective with a personal investment in the case of a murdered young woman; I’m sure you can fill in your own point of comparison from any number of noir-laced shows here.
None of these tropes is getting radically reinvented here, so much as they...

The pain of losing loved ones is unfortunately something that we all have to experience, but what if your recently departed family and friends came back from the dead one day (without an appetite for human flesh)? Syfy has made a name for itself by delivering some very underrated and underseen shows and movies - along with some that should really remain unseen. However, one that is making waves on the network is a series you should tune in for.
"Arriving at a time when zombie stories are teetering on the brink between popular and overplayed, it benefits from an approach that doesn't take itself too seriously," said Gavia Baker-Whitelaw from TV Guide in their review of the new series. Local cop Melanie Scrofano gets a big scare while examining a dead body in a new Collider-exclusive sneak peek from the first episode of Revival. Comic book adaptations of indie comics can hit the ground running if the tone of a comic has been fully explored. However, the adaptation process still requires a steady hand, and Syfy’s latest series, Revival, has that from the jump. Co-created by Aaron B. Koontz and Luke Boyce, the adaptation of Tim Seeley and Mike Norton’s comic builds from an interesting foundation. Grounding the story from the point of view of a family, the undead horror-comedy is one of the best shows in years from Syfy. With plenty of heart and fun characters, Revival deserves to be a big hit for the genre network.

"We're just going to take this step by step..." Music Box Films has revealed an official trailer for Familiar Touch, a lovely indie drama marking the feature directorial debut of filmmaker Sarah Friedland. It's worth a watch. This won the Best Actress & Best Director & Best Debut Film awards in the Orizzonti section at the 2024 Venice Film Festival, then went on to play at the Vancouver, London, Tromso, Singapore, AFI Fest, New Films/New Directors Film Festivals as well. Familiar Touch is a coming-of-old-age film about an older woman dealing with memory loss. It's lead by a remarkable performance by Tony nominee Kathleen Chalfant as Ruth. Made in close collaboration with residents of a retirement community, it challenges the perceptions around aging and sensitively depicts the complexities around intimacy and desire in later life. The film follows the winding path of octogenarian Ruth's shifting memories and desires while remaining rooted in her sage perspective.

One of the best first features in recent memory, Sarah Friedland’s wonderfully gentle Familiar Touch premiered at the Venice Film Festival where it picked up Best Director, Best Actress, and Best First Film in the Orizzonti section. After opening New Directors/New Films, the drama will now begin a theatrical run on June 20, and Music Box Films has unveiled the first trailer.
Here’s the synopsis: “Ruth (Kathleen Chalfant), a retired cook, prepares breakfast in her sunny and cozy kitchen — a dish she seems to have made many times before, although small and puzzling errors now punctuate her comfortable routine. When her son (H. Jon Benjamin) arrives to dine with her, she mistakes him for a suitor. Their ‘date’ takes them to an assisted living facility, which Ruth does not remember that she had previously selected for herself. Among her fellow memory care residents, Ruth feels lost and adrift,...

“Familiar Touch” captures the loneliness of forgetting coupled with the joy of rediscovering what it means to feel alive. The drama, which is written and directed by Sarah Friedland, became a critical hit after it premiered at the 2024 Venice Film Festival where it was later acquired by Music Box Films.
“Familiar Touch” stars Tony Award nominee Kathleen Chalfant as Ruth Goldman, an older woman with dementia who realizes that her “hotel” is actually an assisted living facility. Of course, this realization happens once she is about to go on a date.
The official synopsis reads: “While Ruth resists identifying with her aging neighbors, she connects with the care workers there (Carolyn Michelle and Andy McQueen) and is drawn towards her son (H. Jon Benjamin), whom she mistakes for a suitor. A former cook, Ruth finds agency preparing meals in the facility kitchen. She slides into younger selves as she embraces...

The graphic novel from Image Comics debuted in 2012, written by Tim Seeley with art by Mike Norton. It's been a long journey to making it into a TV show with showrunners Aaron B. Koontz and Luke Boyce. Koontz talked of it in 2024:
"The four-year journey to get here was tough, but Revival has been the most creatively fulfilling journey of my life. Yes, it is daunting and, at times, completely insane. But I wouldn't have it any other way. I'm at home in the chaos.

Almost a year after Resident Alien moved from Syfy to NBCUniversal sibling USA Network with a suspenseful Season 4 renewal, a premiere date has been set for said Season 4 and, surprisingly, it involves both the sci-fi comedy-drama’ new and old homes.
The new season of Resident Alien will debut June 6 as a simulcast on USA and Syfy. The decision to keep the show on Syfy in addition to its USA run reportedly came in the months following the Season 4 renewal. About an hour into Familiar Touch, Sarah Friedland’s feature directorial debut, a subtle yet striking stylistic rupture occurs. The effects of dementia on octogenarian Ruth Goldman (Kathleen Chalfant) grow gradually more pronounced as her stay in assisted living stretches on. In gentle gestures—most frequently a pronounced pause—Chalfant renders what the disease takes from her character by making present an overwhelming sense of absence.
But when the camera surveys Ruth in a doctor’s chair, following Chalfant’s hands downward as she caresses her chest and arms, the film shifts out of its thus-far straightforward perspective. The scene jumps unexpectedly away from the room to a moment of tender hand-holding that Ruth shares with her doctor at the facility before returning to Ruth grasping her wrist. The tactile has supplanted the temporal, and it jolts the film into an enthralling new register.
This sensorial, rather than sensationalist, approach...

Syfy is bringing the comic book Revival to the small screen, we recently learned, and Variety reports today that pro wrestler Cm Punk (Girl on the Third Floor) has joined the cast.
Cm Punk is said to have joined “Revival” for a “recurring role.” Melanie Scrofano, Romy Weltman, David James Elliott, Steven Ogg, and Andy McQueen will also star.
“On one miraculous day in rural Wisconsin, the recently deceased suddenly rise from their graves. But this is no zombie story as the ‘revived’ appear and act just like they once were.
“When local officer and single mother Dana Cypress (Scrofano) is unexpectedly thrown into the center of a brutal murder mystery of her own, she’s left to make sense of the chaos amidst a town gripped by fear and confusion where everyone, alive or undead, is a suspect.”

"I thought I got hired here to talk about real cinema." Ha! Oh, you wish buddy. Freestyle Digital Media is finally releasing this acclaimed Canadian indie film in America. I Like Movies is the feature directorial debut of Canadian filmmaker Chandler Levack and it premiered at the 2022 Toronto Film Festival a few years ago. It's an exceptionally smart, nuanced, entirely original take on a young movie nerd geeking out over his job at a video store. Although he comes to learn that his obsession with movies prevents him from connecting with others. Set in the early 2000s (back when video stores still existed), Lawrence Kweller, a socially inept 17-year old cinephile, gets a job at a video store, where he forms a complicated friendship with his older female manager. I Like Movies stars Isaiah Lehtinen as Lawrence, along with Romina D'Ugo, Krista Bridges, Percy Hynes White, Alex Ateah, and Andy McQueen.

Part one kicked off with a recap of what the Pogues were up to in the 18 months between returning from their City of El Dorado discovery in season three to when Wes Genrette (David Jensen) approaches them with Blackbeard’s captain log, potentially setting them up for a new treasure hunt.
Over the course of the Part One episodes, the Pogues set up a bait-and-tackle shop, with a charter business for tourists, as well as diving and surf lessons. But the money they got from the...
