We officially have the NBC Fall lineup, and it looks exactly as we would’ve expected.
Unfortunately, we’re still lamenting the loss of scripted TV with the acquisition of basketball, and the Fall slate certainly reflects that, as there is slim pickings outside of One Chicago, Law & Order, and Brilliant Minds.
But it’s still comforting to have stalwart franchises on their same nights. The familiarity of that breeds comfort.
(David Astorga/NBC)
Wednesdays and Thursdays are the juggernaut nights with a full slate of the two franchises. Because, yes, Law & Order: Organized Crime will accompany the other Law & Orders on Thursdays, airing the fifth season to those who may not have tuned in for it on Peacock.
Given that we still don’t have word on the series’ renewal, they’re hoping to build up a bigger audience by re-airing it on broadcast.

Surprise! The three-hour Law & Order Thursday lineup will be back on NBC’s fall schedule. Law & Order: Organized Crime, which moved from NBC to Peacock ahead of its fifth season a year ago, will return to the broadcast network. Its fifth season, which recently wrapped its run on the NBCUniversal streamer, will get a second window on NBC, airing in its old Thursday 10 Pm slot behind Law & Order and Law & Order: Svu. The L&w trio will debut their new seasons Sept. 25.
The intention with Organized Crime‘s move to Peacock was to make the drama starring Christopher Meloni even more serialized and edgy. While it is serialized, Season 5 was not as dark as anticipated, making it suitable for a 10 Pm airing on broadcast, where the expectation is that it would reach a largely new audience.

NBC has passed on its remaining comedy pilot, the Untitled Ornelas, Keliiaa and Wilson Project.
From the Rutherford Falls trio of Sierra Teller Ornelas, Jackie Kaliiaa and Bobby Wilson, the ensemble comedy revolves around the employees at a Native community center in Oakland, CA who hustle to keep the lights on while lifting up those in need.
NBC ordered three comedy pilot earlier this year. The other two, The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins, starring Tracy Morgan and Daniel Radcliffe and executive produced by Tina Fey, and Jeff Astrof and Liz Astrof’s Stumble, headlined by Jenn Lyon, both have been picked up to series.
The untitled Ornelas, Keliiaa and Wilson project was the last of the three to be ordered and the last to be delivered. As Deadline has reported, it generated less buzz than Reggie Dinkins and Stumble, but it was well received internally nevertheless, sources said.

NBC has added another new comedy series for the 2025-26 season, handing a series order to Jeff Astrof and Liz Astrof’s single-camera cheerleading pilot Stumble, headlined by Jenn Lyon. The decision comes days before the options on the cast were set to expire at the end of this week.

NBC has positively flipped for Stumble, giving the cheerleading mockmentary a series order for the 2025-26 TV season.

NBC is adding to its comedy roster.
The network has given a series order to Stumble, a show centered on the coach (Jenn Lyon) of a community college cheerleading team. The series comes from creators (and siblings) Jeff and Liz Astrof and Universal Television.
Stumble joins fellow first-year comedy The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins, starring Tracy Morgan and Daniel Radcliffe, on NBC’s slate for 2025-26. The network’s schedule for fall currently has two open spots for half-hours on Mondays and Fridays, and it seems likely (though NBC hasn’t formally said so yet) that the two newcomers will fill those slots. Second-year shows St. Denis Medical (Monday) and Happy’s Place (Friday) are slated to be the other halves of hourlong comedy blocks on those nights.

Jeff Astrof and Liz Astrof’s single-camera cheerleading pilot Stumble, headlined by Jenn Lyon, has been well received internally at NBC and has also tested well, I hear, making it a strong contender for a series pickup. NBC has a pilot for a new cheerleading comedy, Stumble, in the works, and Kristin Chenoweth has now been officially added to the main cast. Those without much Broadway knowledge would likely still recognize the actor from the screen, particularly after Kristin Chenoweth’s Wicked cameo, an acknowledgement of Chenoweth earning one of her three Tony nominations for originating the role of Glinda. She’s also appeared in BoJack Horseman, Pushing Daisies, Glee, The Descendants, and the Netflix romantic comedy Our Little Secret, along with far too many other stage and screen credits to mention.
But Kristin Chenoweth’s best onscreen performances may not all be behind her. As reported by Deadline, Chenoweth is now joining the cast of the cheerleading mockumentary series Stumble as a series regular. She’ll be playing the perky, 1989-obsessed Tammy Istiny (pronounced Iss-tih-knee), who takes over for former junior college competitive cheerleading coach Courteney...

According to Deadline, Tony and Emmy Award winner Kristin Chenoweth is set to join the cast of Stumble, a new comic cheerleading pilot in development at NBC. Written by siblings Jeff and Liz Astrof, the mockumentary-style series dives into the high-stakes, over-the-top world of junior college cheerleading. Chenoweth will star as Tammy Istiny, a former star flyer still stuck in her 1989 glory days, Tammy is the longtime assistant coach to Courteney Potter (played by Claws star Jenn Lyon). When Courteney is ousted from her top junior college coaching gig after a controversial video surfaces, Tammy "reluctantly" steps into the role of head coach, complete with high ponytail, heavy cheer makeup, and a Cherry Coke slushie in hand. The duo will star in a previously untitled sitcom from Morgan's Saturday Night Live and 30 Rock colleague Tina Fey, which is now called The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins. Variety reports the half-hour comedy has been picked up to series by NBC, who also released the first image from the series.
In the first image, Morgan (playing the titular Dinkins) sits on a park bench with Radcliffe and co-star Erika Alexander (Living Single). Morgan will play Reggie Dinkins, a disgraced running back trying to rehabilitate his image. Helping him out are Arthur Tobin (Radcliffe), an award-winning documentary filmmaker who's living with Reggie to film an immersive film about his comeback, and Monica (Alexander), Reggie's childhood sweetheart turned ex-wife, who is also his agent and business manager. Also starring on the series are fellow SNL alum Bobby Moynihan as Gator,...

Julianne Moore toes the line between enigmatic socialite and cult leader in the new trailer for Sirens, a new limited series premiering May 22 on Netflix.
In the series, Moore plays the wildly wealthy, but mysterious Michaela Kell, who presides over her luxurious seaside estate, Cliff House, with a rather unsettling air (there’s kind of a Wicker Man/Midsommar in Lily Pulitzer vibe to the whole place). Meanwhile, Milly Alcock plays Michaela’s devoted assistant, Simone, who has become deeply enthralled with all this wealth and developed an exceptionally strange relationship with her boss.

Jenn Lyon has been cast in a lead role in the NBC comedy pilot “Stumble,” Variety has learned.
The pilot was originally announced back in March. As previously reported, the logline for the show states that it is “a mockumentary about the ridiculously high stakes competitive world of junior college cheer.” The project was originally set up with a put pilot commitment at NBC in late 2024.
Lyon will star as Courtney Potter. The character description reads:
“Tied for the winningest coach in Junior College Cheer history, Courteney has a huge fall from grace when a ‘scandalous’ video emerges of her partying with her team, forcing her to take a job coaching at a small crappy school in a town with an unpronounceable name. Can she win the championship with a rag tag team of misfits? She can. She must. She … might not.”

This post contains spoilers from Paramount+'s Happy Face episode 4, "Controlled Burn."
One of the things I’m loving about Happy Face is how each episode ends: with a bombshell. We learned last week that Melissa’s (Annaleigh Ashford) brother was with their father in Texas when Heather Richmond was killed. In this episode 4 recap, Shane (Philip Ettinger) enters the picture, as does someone unexpected, Melissa confronts her ex, and Happy Face (Dennis Quaid) gets to Hazel (Khiyla Aynne) then drops some bombshells in his attempted controlled burn, which is a tactic firemen use to prevent bigger fires. Jesperson uses them to start them, though, so only he can control them.
With Happy Face now out of solitary, he’s free to do what he wants… mostly. So, he reaches out to his granddaughter again, this time at school. It’s fair to say Hazel, who did sell the drawing Happy Face sent her,...

Happy Face is a new Paramount+ true-crime series set to roll out eight new episodes this Spring. Adapted from the 2018 podcast of the same name, the docudrama concerns a teenage girl who discovers her father is secretly the Happy Face Killer, a serial kidnapper and murderer who took the lives of at least eight women in the 1990s. Dennis Quaid and Annaleigh Ashford headline the docudrama as the father-daughter combo.
With a relatively straightforward streaming schedule, Happy Face will air its eight-episode first season over seven weeks, ending on May 1st. Once hooking viewers with a double dose of terror, Paramount+ will issue a new weekly episode until the finale. Including episode titles and writers attached, here's everything to know about when, where, and how to watch Happy Face in the coming weeks.

When it comes to the streaming world, newly released original shows face quite the uphill battle when it comes to fighting for a second season, as it often needs to deliver with both audiences and critics while serving up stellar viewership numbers. In fact, no matter how quirky the characters are or unique the premise is, if a show can't deliver in the ratings department it will likely find itself in the ever-ominous gravesite of fan-favorite programs gone too soon.

"Will you come with me when I go to space tomorrow?" Freestyle Digital Media has unveiled a fun trailer for an indie comedy called Darla in Space, a kooky, wacky creation from the filmmakers Eric Laplante & Susie Moon as their feature debut. This premiered at the 2024 Slamdance Film Festival earlier this year, and it'll be out to watch on VOD in October. Darla Peterson just found out she owes the IRS $349,000.22. She teams up with a sentient kombucha scoby named "Mother" who has the ability to grant mind-blowing orgasms to pay off the debt. In exchange, Mother wants Darla's help getting to space. Is this a match made in heaven, or the other place? Alex E. Harris plays Darla, with Constance Shulman, Thomas Jay Ryan, Jenn Lyon, Rasheda Crockett, Eamon O'Connell, and Js Oliver. This is such a weird concept, and it's a real shoestring indie made for less than $100K.

Evan Marquez (Brian Jordan Alvarez) is going through it.
The high school English teacher in suburban Texas recently broke up with boyfriend Malcolm (Jordan Firstman), is under investigation by the school board for kissing him in front of students, doesn’t want to be a local queer hero, and is also expressly forbidden from dating fellow teachers, like handsome new hire Harry (Langston Kerman).
FX’s latest comedy stays true to its genre, with laugh-out-loud dialogue, casually outrageous characters, and scenarios that could be out of the sitcom handbook on the surface, but get sharpened to a 2024 clip by Alvarez and fellow writers Stephanie Koenig, Jake Bender, Zach Dunn, and Dave King. Jokes fly so fast that they could be improvised, setting the bar from the very first scene for a show bursting with humor even when the plot goes off course.

Though the news doesn't come as a huge surprise, given that there's been no word on the show since its April debut, it's still a disappointment to those who were hopeful the series would continue.
Dead Boy Detectives was a little bit of an oddity in itself since the series was originally going to air on Max and connect more to the DC universe (it's based on the DC comic book series of the same name) but then was later moved to Netflix, which made sense because The Sandman, another series set in the Gaiman universe, was already airing there and Dead Boy Detectives featured a couple of little crossovers between the two Netflix series.

Netflix has pulled the plug on Dead Boy Detectives, a fun show with a lot of promise and a passionate fanbase, according to Variety. Such is life on the world's streamer.
In all seriousness, it's not too surprising that the show has been canceled. Dead Boy Detectives, about a pair of dead boys who became detectives, stayed on the list of Netflix's Top 10 most watched shows for three weeks before falling off. It amassed millions of views but not millions enough. Still, considering the positive reception among fans and critics both — it has a 92% score among critics and 90% among fans on Rotten Tomatoes — it's a shame that it's ending this early. The good ones go young...again.

There will be no second season for Dead Boy Detectives. Netflix has canceled the series after one season, sources confirm to Deadline.
The first season, which dropped on April 25, will now be the final season for the show, which was originally set up at Max.
Based on the comics of the same name by Neil Gaiman and part of The Sandman Universe, Dead Boy Detectives followed Edwin Payne (George Rexstrew) and Charles Rowland (Jayden Revri), “the brains” and “the brawn” behind the Dead Boy Detectives agency. Teenagers born decades apart who find each other only in death, Edwin and Charles are best friends and ghosts… who solve mysteries.
They will do anything to stick together – including escaping evil witches, Hell and Death herself. With the help of a clairvoyant named Crystal (Kassius Nelson) and her friend Niko (Yuyu Kitamura), they crack some of the mortal realm’s most mystifying paranormal cases.

There will be no more mysteries to solve for Edwin and Charles. It's been revealed that Dead Boy Detectives will end its run after a single season, despite its positive reception.
Back in April, Netflix debuted all eight episodes of the first season of Dead Boy Detectives, a Neil Gaiman adaptation set in the same universe as The Sandman. The future of the show has since been unclear, but the newest update on Dead Boy Detectives is very bad news for fans. Per Variety, Netflix has officially chosen to cancel Dead Boy Detectives, putting the show onto the pile of previously-axed titles that fans say ended way too soon on the streaming platform.

Dead Boy Detectives season 2 is not happening, as Netflix has officially canceled the Sandman spinoff. Based on the characters created by Neil Gaiman and Matt Wagner, and part of the Sandman universe, the series followed Charles Rowland (Jayden Revri) and Edwin Payne (George Rexstrew), two ghosts that decide to evade Death and remain on Earth to solve mysteries. With a main cast that also included Kassius Nelson, Briana Cuoco, Jenn Lyon, Lukas Gage, Ruth Connell, and Yuyu Kitamura, there has been a lot of speculation about Dead Boy Detectives season 2.
Variety confirms that Netflix will not be moving forward with Dead Boy Detectives season 2. The cancellation comes just five months after the Sandman spinoff show first premiered on the streaming platform, where it scored rave reviews and started off with strong ratings, though gradually dropped over its first month of release.
