The Railway Man finds success on a fan-favorite streaming platform over a decade after its release.

Per Flix Patrol, the 2013 World War II drama starring Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman has taken the number nine spot on the Top Ten chart for films streaming on Paramount+, beating out Here After while still being topped by recent hits like Gladiator II, Top Gun: Maverick, and Smile 2 in the top three spots. The film has also taken positions on the top streaming charts for over a dozen individual countries ranging from Mexico to Bolivia to the Dominican Republic.

Dutch horror films don’t get any more on-brand than The Windmill. Maybe a horror movie about the little Dutch boy who plugged that dam and saved Holland? Nah. Big, wooden windmills acting as a gateway to Hell screams Dutch horror, much like the Australian main character, the Asian sidekick….alright, there’s a bit more diversity past locale stereotyping. In any case, director Nick Jongerius spills buckets of gore all over the Netherlands, as a demon dispatches sinners with his all-healing scythe. Heads roll in the name of soulful enlightenment, because karma is quite the bitch in this European slasher import. Grab your clogs and throw on a poncho, because Holland’s hottest sightseeing tour is about to get messy. Like messy/gory, but also messy scripting, and messy crafting.

The film’s protagonist ends up being Jennifer (Charlotte Beaumont), a homeless Aussie transplant who just got outted as being an illegal.

Thanks for taking the time to answer some questions for us, Nick. When did you first come up with the idea for The Windmill?

Nick Jongerius: My pleasure. Thanks for your interest in the film. I first started thinking about the idea for this film after Frankenstein's Army. Our investors at that time were really interested in Holland, especially Amsterdam—the dikes, windmills, clogs, etc. This triggered me. I thought, "What if we use these famous touristic symbols of Holland and drench them in blood? Sort of turning it upside down. From there we shot a proof of concept,...

XLrator Media announced that it has acquired North American distribution rights to The Windmill, an homage to ’80s horror movies. Directed by Nick Jongerius, The Windmill is set to have its world premiere at FrightFest this August and will be released by XLrator Media in October.

It was announced earlier today that Jongerius' debut feature, a horror movie titled The Windmill, has been picked up for North American release by XLrator Media which will release the project on their Macabre label.

A particular subgenre I've enjoyed from an early age thanks to my father's influence is war movies, including the classics -- The Bridge on the River Kwai, Kelly's Heroes and The Dirty Dozen topped our list -- with a particular fondness for prisoner-of-war tales including Victory and Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence. I find the stories of brave servicemen who overcome torturous emotional and physical conditions to be inspiring testaments to courage and bravery.

Directed by Jonathan Teplitzky, the movie The Railway Man portrays such a character, Eric Lomax (Colin Firth). It's based on the real-life story of a British army officer and radio engineer who was captured with his unit during the fall of Singapore in 1942. The prisoners of war were used to build the railroad from Burma to Siam through rough terrain, under brutal conditions.

Lionsgate moves drama starring Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman, avoiding clash with Mandela biopic.

The Railway Man will now open across the UK on Jan 10, through Lionsgate. It recently received its UK premiere in London’s Leicester Square, following its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September.

It was originally slated for release in the first week of the year and its move will see it avoid clashing with Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, which is set for release on Jan 3.

Lionsgate have just sent over these rather lovely new character posters for their movie The Railway Man which is set to hit UK cineams 1st January. After nine days in Toronto for the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival, I finally arrived home in Seattle late in the evening on Friday, September 13, and have been trying to catch up ever since. The producers and distributors of The Railway Man are showing great faith in the drama starring Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman by scheduling it for December 26, arguably the most competitive date in the calendar.
