Image
The first trailer for the nextRed Sonjafilm gives a glimpse at what fans can expect from the full movie -- and even a bit more.

The first full trailer for the upcoming Red Sonja film has arrived courtesy ofEntertainment Weekly. The trailer sees Matilda Lutz's titular antihero tearing her way through every opponent, from fellow human warriors to monstrous beasts, all while making her way towards her true enemies in the form of Robert Sheehan's Draygan the Magnificent and his ominous and powerful bride Dark Annisia, portrayed by Wallis Day.

Created by the legendary author Roy Thomas and artist Barry Windsor-Smith back in 1973 for Marvel Comics and inspired by Robert E. Howard's Red Sonya of Rogatino, Red Sonja has a long and storied history as one of the Hyborian Age's greatest heroes. Over the course of her career in comics and other media, Red Sonja has often...

'Red Sonja' Star Martyn Ford Teases His Villain in the Remake
Image
Martyn Ford has broken into the mainstream like the Kool-Aid Man bursting through a wall. The actor, with the musculature of a bodybuilder and the cadence of a confident Englishman, has gone from social media workouts to starring in blockbusters and streaming series (The Sandman and Those About to Die). He's now playing the legendary giant Goliath in Prime Video's new series, House of David, and will be playing an equally formidable villain in the upcoming remake of Red Sonja. In an interview with MovieWeb, Ford told us that his mysterious character in that movie, General Karlak, is set to be visually "phenomenal," so once can imagine Ford's already intimidating physique combined with wild CGI.

Ford has been great at multifaceted but terrifying villains, and compared Red Sonja's Karlak (a villain of the future) to Goliath. "I think there's always similarities between the ultimate bad guys and their mannerisms and their energies.

'Subservience' Is a Hit on Netflix, but Is It Any Different From 'M3GAN?'
Image
Quick Links 'Subservience' and 'M3GAN' Share a Similar Narrative Where 'Subservience' Fell Short Where 'M3GAN' Succeeded

Netflix's newly acquired film, Subservience, quickly rose to become the platform's current number-one most popular movie upon its streaming release on December 5, 2024. This comes as no surprise considering the immense star power that Megan Fox's name brings to the film. However, despite its popularity, the Scott Dale project has been met with mediocre critic and audience reviews, garnering many five out of 10-star ratings. Not only is the film far from astounding, but it is also gaining some negative attention for its parallels to the Universal Pictures 2022 box-office hit, M3GAN, directed by Gerard Johnstone.

Both M3GAN and Subservience take a special interest in telling sinister stories about realistic robots and warning of the futuristic dangers associated with advanced intelligence. Although that type of narrative seems like...

‘Subservience’ Ending, Explained: Will There Be a Sequel?
Image
Following its theatrical bow in September, the AI thriller Subservience has shot to the top of Netflix's most-watched movies in December 2024. The film stars Megan Fox as Alice, a robotic android hired by Nick (Michele Morrone) to care for his two children after his wife Maggie (Madeline Zima) has a long hospital stay due to a heart condition.

For Nick and his children, things get most complicated when Maggie returns home and finds her domicile under threat from Alice. While neither silly, sexy, nor scary enough, the final moments of the psychosexual techno-thriller bear a bit more scrutiny. Less confusing than downright incredulous, Subservience takes a big, ambitious swing in the third and final act that is admirable if not unnerving. Here's what transpires at the end of Subservience.

Dont Move Ending, Explained: Does Iris Make It Out Alive?
Image
Warning: Spoilers for Dont Move.

The latest horror thriller from Netflix, Dont Move, follows a bereaved woman named Iris (Kelsey Asbille) who recently lost her son, Mateo (Denis Kostadinov), during a hiking accident. At the beginning of the film, she returns to the cliff he fell from and contemplates jumping herself. With her sons red boat in hand, shes joined by a stranger named Richard (Finn Wittrock) who appears friendly, at least at first. Their conversation convinces her to keep living and the pair walk back to their vehicles. Given only their cars are in the parking lot, it becomes abundantly clear that Richard is hiding something. Having parked entirely too close to Iris vehicle, shes unable to open her drivers door all the way, which gives him the opportunity to tase her and take her captive.

When she regains consciousness, her hands and feet are zip-tied in the back seat of Richards vehicle.

Don't Move Review: Expansive Spaces Make Way For Claustrophobic Terror In Sam Raimi-Produced Horror

Don't Move is a spectacular new thriller produced by Sam Raimi starring Kelsey Asbille and Finn Wittrock. The film utilizes an extremely lean cast and a beautiful setting within a densely wooded area to create something unique and spectacular with just a few resources. As a result, this horror film maintains a consistent tension that continues to build and expand until the film's final moments.

Subservience Review | Megan Fox Shines in Otherwise Forgettable Robot Flick
Image
When your computer is malfunctioning, leave it to the I.T. department to advise a reboot. On the other hand, if you're getting chummy with an android who advises you to reboot it for the sake of some quick entertainment, maybe think twice. So sets off a whirlwind of catastrophic events in Subservience, a new sci-fi thriller starring Rogue alum Megan Fox. The film's eloquent title, for those not familiar, means a "willingness to obey unquestionably," and you'll quickly understand why the word is cleverly used to sum up this new offering from director S.K. Dale.

The filmmaker last collaborated with Fox on the very good thriller Till Death (2021), and now he's working off a script rather formulaic and predictable in nature, unfortunately by Will Honley & April Maguire. Fox has given a number of acclaimed performances over the years, and rises to the occasion (by paradoxically sinking herself into the...

Megan Fox Has a Photographic Memory, Says Her Subservience Director
Image
We spoke with filmmaker Sk Dale leading up to the release of Subservience, his eerie new sci-fi thriller starring Megan Fox as a femme fatale-type android. It marks the second time Dale and Fox have worked together, following their critically acclaimed collaboration Till Death (2021). Now that Dale has directed two Fox starrers, he was able to share some intel about the Transformers alum that the common moviegoer might not know.

"What really shocks me, she has the greatest photographic memory I've ever seen, her ability to learn some of the exposition that we have," Dale told MovieWeb. "On the day of, she walked up on set, and I'm like, 'I'm really sorry, but I've just kind of rewrote this monologue, or a few of these lines for you. Can you quickly learn these as quickly as possible?' And she would just look at them, and then she'd be like,...

Subservience Review: Megan Fox Stars As A Soulless Robot In An Equally Hollow Sci-Fi Thriller
Image
Subservience is the latest in a long line of sci-fi thrillers about the dangers of AI. Unfortunately, it's also one of the least original or creative. The sole difference the film can lay claim to is the fact that it cast Megan Fox as its leading lady. While the movie tries to delve into a provocative and alluring angle that has yet to be explored with depth in films about artificial intelligence, it falters and becomes a simple cautionary tale about out-of-control robots.

Danny. Legend. God. review – Borat-style mockumentary about Bulgarian wideboy
Mockumentary creates super-annoying character as it transforms into something much more hard-faced

It’s to debut director Yavor Petkov’s credit that, with his coke-hoovering Balkans wideboy Danny, he has created an extremely annoying cinematic character to rival Steven Stifler of American Pie, Jim Carrey’s Cable Guy and Jar Jar Binks. Petkov however, has done it on purpose – and his mockumentary about a hipster film crew following around this smalltown councillor-cum-petty mafioso, played by Dimo Alexiev, blossoms into a deeply uncomfortable viewing experience.

The set-up is this: Danny takes Susan (Kate Nichols) and her British crew under his wing to show them around his Bulgarian town. Ostensibly taking part in a documentary on money-laundering, this mean-faced braggart has no shame and operates an access-all-areas policy: they film him berating the local “peasants”, scope out the chocolate factory he’s planning, and watch him bully a bank official. If they...

In case you’re wondering, before I start this review let me say, this Is Doom… All the aspects of the classic iD Software title are present and correct: from the transporting gates to the coloured keycards, from the weapons to the set/level design (with a brilliant nod to the intermission screen from the first game early on in the film), it’s all here in what can only be described as one of the most faithful video game adaptations to have ever been produced… Though there has been one liberty taken with the Doom franchise – this films “Doom guy” is actually a Doom girl, in the form of actress Amy...

Diane Kruger Goes Undercover in Official Trailer for 'The Operative'
"I just decided... I wasn't going to be afraid." Vertical Entertainment has debuted the official Us trailer for the spy thriller The Operative, the latest from Israeli filmmaker Yuval Adler. This premiered at the Berlin Film Festival earlier this year, but hasn't played at any other festivals. In the film, Diane Kruger stars as a woman trained and recruited to work as an undercover spy for Israel's intelligence agency the Mossad. She is sent to work in Tehran, but ends up in a love affair with her target, making everything more complex than it should to be. The cast includes Martin Freeman as her handler, Cas Anvar as her target, along with Rotem Keinan, Yohanan Herson, and Kate Nichols. This seems like it should be a slick spy thriller, alas it's a film without much to say, that meanders most of the time and ends before there's any conclusion. Here's...
