Meet the Startup That Wants to Turn Social Creators Into Movie Stars
Image
There are hundreds of social-media stars, each with millions of fans. Now a new startup, Creator Plus, is launching a studio and a streaming service to give big-name creators a platform for feature films.

The company was founded by Benjamin Grubbs, former global head of top creator partnerships at YouTube, and Silicon Valley tech investor and entrepreneur Jonathan Shambroom (who was once Gm of the Crackle streaming service).

The duo say Creator Plus (creatorplus.com) has raised $12 million in funding from Malaysia-based investment firm Petra Group and Freestyle Capital, as well as entrepreneurial creators Jake Roper, Peter Hollens, Wendy Ayche (aka Wengie), tech veterans including Selina Tobaccowala, and strategic business partners including Jazwares CEO Judd Zebersky.

Films produced by Creator Plus — it’s using the trendy “plus” that’s flooded the streaming sector — will premiere on the company’s proprietary platform across web, mobile and connected-tv devices in a premium...

Peter Hollens Premieres “Epic Hand Washing Parody” To Raise Money For Coronavirus Relief
Billie Eilish
YouTube musician Peter Hollens is doing his part to promote mindful hygiene during the coronavirus pandemic, as well as to raise money to combat its spread and aid vulnerable communities.

On his channel today, Hollens premiered “The Epic Hand Washing Parody” -- a medley track comprising tunes from the likes of Billie Eilish, Bruno Mars, and Taylor Swift -- with lyrics that encourage viewers to lather up for 20 seconds, avoid touching their faces, and cough into their elbows. Hollens is best known for his a cappella videos on YouTube (2.5 million subscribers) and Facebook (1.1 million followers).

“We created this to offer a fun, positive reminder to families to do the things we can all do right now in our own homes to fight this virus,” Hollens, who has recently been nabbing 9 million monthly views, said in a statement. “I noticed my own little guy singing it while washing his hands, and...

YouTube Star Peter Hollens Tops Billboard Charts With Album Of ‘Legendary Folk Songs’
Peter Hollens' eighth LP has achieved some notable firsts. The YouTube star's latest album, titled Legendary Folk Songs, has reached the top of two separate Billboard charts, while also vaulting Hollens into the top tier of Billboard's Emerging Artists ranking.

Legendary Folk Songs features a collection of familiar tunes, all performed by the big-voiced Hollens and his guests. The album's 14 tracks include modern takes on classic folk songs from nations like the UK, the Us, and Ireland. As one might expect, Hollens has shared music videos for several of these numbers on his YouTube channel, where he has close to two million subscribers. His cover of the Scottish folk song "Loch Lomond," for example, features an appearance from former American Idol finalist David Archuleta.

YouTuber Peter Hollens Launches Hollens Creator Academy, A Crash Course In Web Videomaking
catered specifically to your needs -- and no, Jake Paul has nothing to do with it. Peter Hollens, whose melodious music videos have brought 1.8 million subscribers to his channel and have helped him snag a spot in a Broadway show, has launched the Hollens Creator Academy, which offers thorough lessons to online video up-and-comers.

Hollens decided to launch his Creator Academy after spending years as an advisor both to companies (such as Loudr and Patreon) and to individual creators. In an effort to share his wisdom with as many videomakers as possible, he created a program that would allow him to instruct thousands at once. "I enjoy teaching," Hollens told Tubefilter. "You can only help so many people at one point in time, but if you can create a digital self, you can help an unlimited amount of people."

In particular, Hollens draws much of his inspiration from Patreon and its founder,...

Teen Beach Movie Getting A Capella with Pentatonix, Sam Tsui, and Peter Hollens
Remember when the Disney Channel aired that teen beach movie, appropriately named Teen Beach Movie? It was a smash hit for the network, which isn’t at all surprising. Sometimes it seems like Disney can do no wrong when it comes to its original TV movies. We may not have seen as big a sensation as High School Musical in quite a while, but that hasn’t stopped movies like Teen Beach Movie from finding their own successes. To nail that point home, the movie is having a select few of its songs undergo the a cappella treatment. If you’re not a fan of pop music, this a cappella treatment might be for you.

The a cappella group Pentatonix, winners of the third cycle of NBC’s The Sing-Off, YouTube sensation Sam Tsui, and sing-producer Peter Hollens are the three acts given the task to turn Teen Beach Movie...
