Captain James T. Kirk and Lieutenant Nyota Uhura met the same way in two different Star Trek universes. Captain Kirk (William Shatner) and Lt. Uhura (Nichelle Nichols) voyage through the stars together for decades in Star Trek: The Original Series and the first six Star Trek movies. J.J. Abrams' Star Trek (2009) depicted how James T. Lower Decks Season 5, Episode 3 Is More Character-Driven Than Expected

The following contains spoilers for Star Trek: Lower Decks, Season 5, Episode 3, "The Best Exotic Nanite Hotel," now streaming on Paramount+.

In its final season, Star Trek: Lower Decks is back to normal or, at least, as normal as things can be on the USS Cerritos. Just like when Bradward Boimler left to join the USS Titan's crew but then came back following a transporter accident, D'Vana Tendi returned to the USS Cerritos' crew after just two episodes after she originally left. When combined with the reappearance of Beckett Mariner's former girlfriend, an Andorian named Jennifer Sh'reyen, these comebacks suggest that Lower Decks Season 5 will be about tying up loose ends. But first, it has to get the core cast back on deck, both literally and figuratively. "The Best Exotic Nanite Hotel" signals what big Star Trek problems the USS Cerritos will face in its final run.
