Jai McDowall Britain's Got Talent

Well there we have it folks. This year’s series of Britain’s Got Talent has come to an end and Jai McDowall has been crowned the worthy winner. He will perform on the Royal Variety Show later this year and walks away with the £100,000 prize money.

In the earlier show some people really stepped things up and brought their act to another level – think Ronan Parke, Jai McDowall and Razy Gogonea – but some performers let nerves get the better of them and really disappointed us with their below par performances. We were particularly let down by New Bounce’s song choice and Jean Martyn’s awful singing.

This evening millions of viewers tuned in to watch Britain’s Got Talent’s penultimate semi final show of the 2011 series and at times, we bet they were sorry they did.

There were some very disappointing acts, Jessica Hobson, Mexican Mayhem and Nathan Wyburn to name a few. However, things picked up with the performances of Out Of The Blue, Jai McDowall and the hilariously funny Steven Hall.

At the end of the night, only two of the eight acts could pass through to Saturday’s grand finale to join Les Gibson, James Hobley, Ronan Parke, Jean Martyn, New Bounce and Paul Gbegbaje on the live extravaganza.

Ant and Dec revealed that Jai McDowall had won the show and received the most public votes, after wowing the public with his jaw dropping performance of Evanescence’s ‘Bring Me To Life.’

The Apprentice lost more than 1m viewers on Wednesday night in the face of tough competition from Britain's Got Talent, the latest audience data has revealed. The double firing of Vincent Disneur and Ellie Reed after the pet food advertising challenge was seen by 6.29m (24.3%) on BBC One in the 9pm hour, down 1.15m week-on-week. Spinoff show The Apprentice: You're Fired! appealed to 3.06m (14.5%) on BBC Two from 10pm. The Apprentice was hit by Britain's Got Talent Results, which pulled in 7.47m (28.9%) from 9.30pm and 471k (2.9%) on timeshift as impressionist Les Gibson and dancer James Hobley moved into Saturday's final. Amanda Holden has praised Britain's Got Talent contestant James Hobley for progressing to the final of the show on the strength of his dancing skills, rather than 'milking' his experiences. The 11-year-old dancer, who is autistic and used to require splints on his legs to walk, wowed the audience and the judges this evening to reach the final of this year's competition. Impressionist Les Gibson and dancer James Hobley have reached the Britain's Got Talent final. Hobley, Aeolian Chimes - also known as Gay and Alan Cooper - and Gibson were named as the top three acts after the public vote. Gibson was then revealed by Ant & Dec to have topped the phone-in, with the 41-year-old telling the presenters: "It feels fantastic. I'd just like to thank everyone... It's just an overwhelming feeling. Thanks judges for the comments." He went on to promise "something a bit different" for Saturday's final. The Britain's Got Talent judges revealed the 40 acts that will be taking part in the live semi-finals tonight. Youngster Ronan Parke, 'Fast Car' singer Michael Collings, magicians David and Karen, dancer James Hobley and impressionist Les Gibson were among the lucky hopefuls who made the final cut.
