Image
Netflix debuted a first look at “Inventing Anna,” Shonda Rhimes’ new limited series set to premiere in 2022.

Inspired by Jessica Pressler’s New York Magazine article “How Anna Delvey Tricked New York’s Party People,” the series follows Vivian Kent (Anna Chlumsky), a journalist investigating the case of Anna Delvey (Julia Garner), the German heiress and Instagram celebrity who broke into New York’s social scene to make friends and then steal their money. As Vivian questions whether Anna is anything more than a con woman, the two begin to develop a love-hate bond. Arian Moayed, Katie Lowes, Alexis Floyd, Anders Holm , Anna Deavere Smith, Jeff Perry, Terry Kinney and Laverne Cox also star.

The first look photos show Anna at both high and low points — enjoying herself while dressed in designer fashion and being visited by Vivian in jail.

Rhimes serves as creator and showrunner. Writers include Matt Byrne,...

Charlie Says Review
“Maybe these women are victims too.”

That’s the chin-scratcher at the forefront of Charlie Says, director Mary Harron and her American Psycho collaborator Guinevere Turner’s look into the Manson family – or rather, the women inside the Manson family. Uttered by Karlene Faith (played compassionately and marvelously by Merritt Wever), a grad student who works to revamp the psyches of three incarcerated girls who did their part in the notorious and savage Tate-labianca murders of 1969, the film uses her outsider perspective to form a tragic and empathetic narrative around the three and their ultimately abusive relationship with ringleader Charles Manson (Matt Smith).

The title refers to the trio’s go-to answer whenever Karlene gently questions their seemingly indestructible loyalty. As Leslie Van Houten (Hannah Murray), Patricia Krenwinkel (Sosie Bacon), and Susan Atkins (Marianne Rendón) spout out some of the mis-truths implanted and endorsed by Manson, such as a race...

‘Contract Killers’ Review
Stars: James Trevena-Brown, Richard Alexander, Dallas Barnett, Renee Cataldo, Kerry Glamsch, Luke Hawker, Rhys Jordan, Tony MacIver, Rob Young | Written by Michael Yee | Directed by Mathew John Pearson

Double-crossed by those he trusted the most, a newbie government hit man discovers that he’s the target for the world’s most dangerous assassin and so begins a ruthless game of kill first of be killed…

In the annals of filmmaking there’s everything from big-budget blockbusters to low-budget indies. Well now welcome the no-budget action movie! Financed through Indiegogo and filmed on the super-cheap in Wellington, New Zealand, Contract Killers at least shares something in common with its low-budget brethren down-under: it’s a damn good film that belies its budget to create what is, essentially, a John Woo-esque action movie that treats gunplay with the same amount of love and respect as the maestro of bullet-ballet did.
