Chicago P.D.Season 12 introduced a game-changing new presence in Chief Reid (portrayed by Shawn Hatosy) as the latest shady superior to go toe-to-toe with Hank Voight (Jason Beghe). Cunning, calculative, and elusive, Reid brought a tense dynamic to the series, and his showdown with Voight was quite thrilling to audiences. For longtime crime drama fans, Hatosy’s dark edge might have felt familiar. Long before his turn in the Windy City, Hatosy spent six seasons as Pope, a dangerous member of a California crime family in TNT’s gritty series Animal Kingdom. Widely regarded as one of the more underrated crime shows, Animal Kingdom is now seeing a resurgence on Netflix, and fans should definitely check it out for more of Hatosy embodying morally gray characters.
Hatsoy has recently become one of the more recognizable faces on TV, and that is not only thanks to Chicago P.D., but also his role as Dr.

Three years after it came to an end on TNT, the underrated crime thriller starring The Pitt's Shawn Hatosy, Animal Kingdom, is finding new life on Netflix. Hatosy plays a very different character from Dr. Jack Abbot in the HBO Max series, taking on the role of a mentally disturbed ex-con in this one, which was adapted from the Australian film of the same name and focuses on a man who moves to Southern California to live with his freewheeling relatives after his mom dies. The catch? They all make their living through unsavory activities.

There are so many crime dramas nowadays, but when you're talking about the best ones, Animal Kingdom should definitely be brought up. If you weren't part of the original Animal Kingdom fanbase during its TNT run, now is the perfect time to dive in, because the entire gritty, intense drama series is finally streaming on Netflix. The streaming giant added the crime drama to its platform on June 1.

Unfortunately, an official departure date has not been announced yet, nor do we know how long Netflix has secured the rights to stream the series.

John Wick director Chad Stahelski opens up about his less-than-stellar experience on The Continental.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Stahelski was asked about why he was less involved in The Continental, the John Wick spinoff series, than he had been with the films. "Keanu [Reeves] and I were — I wouldn’t say sidelined, but our opinion was heard and not really noted," Stahelski replied. "[The studio] tried to convince me they knew what they were doing. A group of individuals thought they had the magic sauce."
"But if you take out Basil Iwanyk’s producing intuitiveness, if you take out Keanu’s way of delivering quirky dialogueand if you take out all the visuals I have in my head… then it’s not the same thing," Stahelski continued. "They thought this was as easy as using anamorphic lenses, do a kooky hotel, put in weird dialogue, and insert crime drama. If you saw our process,...

Keanu Reeves' John Wick always puts two in the head, but it's one and done for the prequel series, The Continental. Released in 2023 on Peacock and Prime Video. The Continental was the first attempt at a John Wick spin-off, telling the story of Winston's rise to power as the manager of the New York branch of the titular hotel. TNT's crime drama Animal Kingdom was based on the acclaimed Australian film of the same name. While vastly different in character development and tone, both share the same premise: High schooler J moves in with his estranged grandmother, Smurf, and her criminal sons. The series' pilot follows much of the film's story, with some scenes and dialogue replicated beat for beat. With the show spawning six seasons, it quickly veered off from the movie's story into something entirely its own. Still, the source material was the main inspiration until Animal Kingdom's ending in 2022.
For example, the death of Scott Speedman's Baz was meant to emulate his film counterpart's demise. The same can be said for Nicky (Molly June Gordon), whose brief exploration of heroin nodded to the film Nicky's deadly encounter with the drug. As such, it's not entirely surprising that both Pope (Shawn Hatosy) and Craig...

Lagertha's character development in Vikings is largely influenced by her romantic relationships with various partners. Love was both a source of growth and tragedy for Lagertha, with some lovers being supportive while others were toxic. Despite facing abusive and betraying lovers, Lagertha's most significant and healthiest relationship was with Ragnar Lothbrok.
Among all the characters in Vikings, Lagertha is arguably granted the best character development. Much of this growth was facilitated by the romantic partners she had prior to her death, though some of Lagertha's lovers were far better for her than others. Viewers got to see Lagertha grow from a shieldmaiden to the Earl of Hedeby and finally the Queen of Kattegat. Lagertha also has some of the best relationship arcs as she dates several strong characters and has relationships with both men and women.

Warning: Major spoilers for The Continental: From the World of John Wick season 1 below!
The Continental: From the World of John Wick sets up a potential second season, but it's best if the miniseries is a one-off. The three-episode first season was riddled with uninvolving subplots and action that failed to live up to the movie franchise's high standards. A second season where Winston battles the High Table to retain control of the Continental is inherently uninteresting as audiences already know the outcome.

There are many ways to approach The Continental: From the World of John Wick. On the one hand, it's a perfectly valid story in its own right that provides a story with a beginning, middle, and end. No prior knowledge is necessary, and to have any would only serve to tickle the part of the brain that finds comfort in familiarity. On the other hand, The Continental's efficacy is entirely contingent upon how much the viewer cares about the John Wick universe, and whether the films have done enough to warrant further narrative pursuit.

Aren’t the John Wick movies great? Just wonderful. A killer we side with because, for five seconds, we saw his dog die. Because of that, we give him the grace to traverse the criminal underworld and murder 439 (we looked it up) people over the course of four films. The Continental: From the World of John Wick was given to us as a way of saying, “Hey Wick-lovers! A little lore for you.” and we all thought it was a lovely bit of fan service and applauded. What would we learn about the history of a place like the Continental?
It turns out that what they thought we wanted was aged-down versions of secondary characters a few years earlier. Unfortunately, it also turns out that it really wasn’t.

Like any throwback series, we’re taking you all the way back to the swinging ‘70s. The world is a bit different.

Even a casual viewer of the "John Wick" films can't help but be intrigued by the franchise's assassin-filled world. One of the unique pleasures of the original 2014 movie is the way it begins in a very grounded, incredibly recognizable reality, sliding bit by bit into a wilder, more garish, more violent, more intriguing underworld along with John (played in the films by Keanu Reeves), as he delves back into the life of murder he thought he'd left behind.
The very first spinoff/expanded universe/prequel to come from the "John Wick" films is the Peacock original miniseries "The Continental: From the World of John Wick," and it finds itself in territory that's both untouched and well-established. Each subsequent "John Wick" film (from Chapters 2 through 4) has developed the world of "Wick" on a grand, global scale, taking John to locales all around the world.

The “John Wick” movies are known for their high-octane, guns-blazing action on the big screen, but now the franchise is heading to Peacock — and about 50 years in the past — to explore its origins in “The Continental.”
Across three episodes, the ’70s-set series dives into how a young Winston Scott (played by Colin Woodell) became the proprietor of the titular hotel, which is famous for throwing lavish parties and being a safe haven for assassins. But, as “John Wick” fans know, not everybody abides by the no-killing rule on Continental grounds.
The show, which premieres on Peacock Friday, starts with a bang — actually, a lot of them — thanks to stunt coordinator Larnell Stovall. Winston’s brother Frankie (Ben Robson) brutally kills a squad of henchmen while escaping The Continental with a stolen package. His exit route is up a crowded stairwell that soon drips with blood from the flurry of headshots and stabbings.

In the world of "John Wick," The Continental is a safe refuge for all contractors, a neutral ground that provides much-needed respite and assistance to those belonging to the criminal underworld. Not much is revealed about this mysterious hotel chain, except that its rules need to be upheld no matter what the cost, and certain branches -- such as New York and Osaka -- are ready to defend this sacred ground until their last breath. This preps the foundation for "The Continental: From the World of John Wick," a "John Wick" spin-off series that delves into how Ian McShane's Winston Scott (played by Colin Woodell in the TV series) presided over the New York branch as a young proprietor. This limited series is set to follow an alternate history of the 1970s while incorporating real-world events within the context of the franchise's deep and evolving lore.

The John Wick universe has always had two main characters: John Wick and The Continental. There was a reason Winston hung on to it so much in the movies.
While John's story has always been interesting, it felt like there was a lot to be said about the lore surrounding John's line of work, including the vast hotel network and The High Table.
The films didn't have enough time to explore many of these aspects because the clock was ticking, and they had a narrative to follow while serving as many action scenes as possible.
When the idea behind the show was announced, it was interesting in the least. For one, there was curiosity on how the creatives would pull off a show centered around an inanimate object, and two, was it a cash grab?
Many shows have been made from successful movie franchises, but the television version never quite...
