First Look at Russell Crowe in Mma Action Movie Revealed

Academy Award-winner Russell Crowe is venturing into the world of mixed-martial-arts fighting for his new movie, Beast in Me. Per Deadline, new images from the film that was co-written by Crowe and stars the Gladiatoractor as well as Luke Hemsworth (Westworld) and Daniel MacPherson (Foundation), were just released. Beast in Me is directed by Tyler Atkins. David Frigerio co-wrote the script with Crowe.

Beast in Me is currently in production in Australia and Bangkok. Mojean Aria, Kelly Gale, Bren Foster, Saphira Moran, and Australian musician Amy Shark also star in the film. The production stills that were released from the film can be seen below.

Russell Crowe has already proven himself in the Colosseum in Ridley Scott's Gladiator. Now he's training a new fighter for the Mma octagon in the upcoming mixed martial arts action film Beast in Me. Mma movies have been rather hit-or-miss. Entries in the Never Back Down and Undisputed franchises (in so much as the latter can be called an Mma franchise) have received mixed reviews from audiences and critics, while Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton's Warrior is the undisputed pound-for-pound Goat of the sub-genre. But with the talent of Russell Crowe and the rest of its star-studded cast, Beast in Me has a solid shot at the title.

Exclusive: Here are your first look images of Oscar winner Russell Crowe (Gladiator) and Daniel MacPherson (Foundation) in martial-arts movie Beast In Me, which is in production in Australia and Bangkok, from a script co-written by Crowe.

They are joined in the cast by Luke Hemsworth (Westworld), Mojean Aria (The Correspondent) Kelly Gale (Plane), George Burgess (Land of Bad), Bren Foster (The Last Ship), Saphira Moran (It Will Find You) and Australian musician Amy Shark, who makes her feature film debut.

The Solution Entertainment Group is selling the project at the EFM in Berlin.

Pic follows Patton James (MacPherson), who abandons his mixed martial arts dream to support his wife, Luciana (Gale), and son. When his brother, Malon (Aria), suffers a serious injury and faces financial strain to underworld figures, Patton sets out to avenge him in a One Championship fight with the help of veteran trainer Sammy (Crowe). Australian singer Amy Shark is stepping into the world of acting with her debut role in Russell Crowe’s upcoming film “Beast in Me”, a martial arts-themed revenge story currently shooting in Bangkok, Thailand.

Crowe, an Oscar-winning actor known for films like “Gladiator”, has cast Shark as his on-screen daughter, an opportunity that emerged from an unexpected connection. The pair first met during a 2023 concert in Canberra, where Shark invited Crowe on stage to perform together.

Australian singer Amy Shark has got her big screen break, thanks to her fellow Antipodean Russell Crowe.

The Oscar winning actor has cast the singer in his movie Beast in Me, currently filming in Thailand.

Shark posted a picture of herself in transit, complete with script, to her social media, adding the caption: “Bangkok for the next week to become a movie star.”

News.com.au reports that Shark will play Crowe’s daughter in the film, described as a “revenge story infused with mixed martial arts.” She will join actors Daniel McPherson Luke Hemsworth and Bren Foster in the film, directed by Tyler Atkins.

As well as her Instagram post, Shark made a video for her TikTok fans in which she captioned herself “Amy Shark – actress 2025.”

Hollywood actor Russell Crowe is set to take on a leading role in a new martial arts movie that will feature the global sports organization One Championship. Titled “The Beast in Me,” the film tells the story of a former mixed martial arts fighter who comes out of retirement after a family tragedy. Crowe will play the role of the fighter’s trainer helping him regain his footing inside the ring.

Mixed martial arts franchise One Championship has come on board “The Beast in Me,” a sports action film starring Russell Crowe and Daniel MacPherson (“Land of Bad,” “Foundation”).

In the film, MacPherson plays an out-of-work former Mma fighter who suffers a personal tragedy involving his brother. With the help of a veteran trainer played by Crowe, he sets out to avenge his brother by coming out of retirement to compete in One Championship.

The film is produced by the U.S.-based Broken Open Pictures and is to be directed by Tyler Atkins (writer-director of “Ocean Boy”). International rights to the film are represented by the Los Angeles-based Solution Entertainment Group.

Production is set to begin later this year and extend into early 2025. Among the locations will be Bangkok, Thailand’s Impact Arena, where One’s Friday Fights live event on Jan. 24 will be the setting for a key scene.

Exclusive: Gravitas Ventures has acquired North American rights to the Australian drama Ocean Boy, starring Luke Hemsworth (Westworld). The Anthem Sports & Entertainment Company plans to release the pic formerly titled Bosch + Rockit in theaters and on demand on February 3, 2023.

The feature directorial debut of Tyler Atkins is set along the Australian coast in late summer and follows the young father Bosch (Hemsworth) as he goes on the run for drug dealing with his surf gang. In tow is his son, Rockit (Rasmus King), who believes he is on a magical holiday. Isabel Lucas and Leeanna Walsman also star.

Luke Hemsworth is playing the lead opposite teenager Rasmus King in Bosch and Rockit, writer-director Tyler Atkins’ debut feature which follows a father and son who are pursued by crooked cops.

Now shooting in Byron Bay, the privately-financed road movie/drama is a spin-off from Atkins’ 2018 short which starred King and Aaron Jeffery.

Deeper Water Pictures’ John Schwarz, who joined the project several weeks ago at the suggestion of Dop Ben Nott, is producing with Cathy Flannery.

Based on a true story, the plot follows Hemsworth’s Bosch and King’s 13-year-old Rockit as they embark on a late summer trip along the Australian coast.

Rockit believes he is on a magical holiday with his dad until he sees the cops are in pursuit. On the run, they struggle with numerous setbacks with hope, courage and determination.
