Exclusive: Fox is continuing with its animation fix. The network has renewed three of its animated series — Grimsburg, Krapoplis and Universal Basic Guys.

This follows its bumper deal to renew long-running hits The Simpsons, Family Guy and Bob’s Burgers, as well as returning series American Dad, for four more seasons.

Grimsburg, which stars Jon Hamm, is returning for Season 3, Krapopolis returns for Season 5 and Universal Basic Guys is back for Season 3.

Grimsburg, which premiered in January 2024, centers on Marvin Flute (Hamm), who may be the greatest detective ever to catch a cannibal clown and correctly identify a mid-century modern armoire. But there’s one mystery he still can’t crack — himself. To do that he must return to Grimsburg, a town where everyone has a secret or three, and redeem himself in the eyes of his fellow detectives, his ferocious ex-wife and his lovably unstable son.

Family Guy, Grimsburg, The Great North and Krapopolis are set to return Sunday, Feb. 16 starting with Season 23 of Family Guy at 8 pm; Season 2 of Grimsburg at 8:30 pm, Season 5 of The Great North at 9 pm, followed by new episodes of Krapopolis at 9:30 pm.

Regular Show ran for seven years on Cartoon Network, beloved for its wacky humor and an all-star cast. The very episodic structure of several of Cartoon Network's best TV shows recalls the nature of a classic Saturday morning cartoon, Regular Show being a perfect example. During The Great North‘s TCA slot on Wednesday, creators Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin had a message for networks with new shows in progress: “Pick up those seasons early.”

Months before the Molyneux sisters’ Alaska comedy made its debut on Fox in January, the network ordered a sophomore reason, granting the showrunners an organic platform and the confidence to expand their stories, they said.

“I think it gave us a feeling of confidence and the ability to relax and feel like the stories we were telling were the right kind of stories,” said Lizzie. “I think everyone has had a very difficult year and things have been tough for everyone, so I think it was nice to have that sense of comfort and confidence going into season two.”

Netflix has renewed “Virgin River” for a 10-episode third season. The show follows a midwife and nurse (Alexandra Breckenridge) who relocates to a California town and becomes entrenched in the lives of the townspeople as drama unfolds. In addition to the season announcement, Netflix revealed that Breckenridge will reprise her role for another season, with other returning actors including Martin Henderson, Tim Matheson, Annette O’Toole, Colin Lawrence, Benjamin Hollingsworth, Grayson Gurnsey, Lauren Hammersley, Sarah Dugdale, Jenny Cooper, Daniel Gillies, Chase Petriw and Marco Grazzini. They will also be joined by new series regular Zibby Allen and Stacey Farber, who will recur as a new character. The season premiere will be announced at a later date.

The renewal of the show, which is set to launch midseason, comes as Fox continues to double down on animation. The network has been aggressively ramping up its slate of animation over the last few years with the likes of Bless The Harts, Duncanville, Housebroken and a new series from Rick and Morty co-creator joining the likes of The Simpsons, Family Guy and Bob’s Burgers.

Fox Entertainment has acquired Bento Box Entertainment, the animation house behind some of its broadcast network’s shows, including “Bob’s Burgers”, the upcoming “Duncanville” and “The Great North.”

Founded in 2009 by Scott Greenberg, Joel Kuwahara and Mark McJimsey — with current owners being Greenberg, Kuwahara and Brett Coke — Bento Box will operate as a stand-alone entity under Fox Entertainment and produce content for all platforms. Bento Box’s kids and family investment, Sutikki, and its related assets, are not part of the acquisition.

The company’s leadership team will remain in place, including Greenberg (CEO) and Kuwahara (President of Production), as well as senior executives Coker (COO), Ben Jones (Creative Director), Craig Hartin (Gm of Bento Box Atlanta), Janelle Momary (Supervising Producer) and Andi Raab (Supervising Producer).

The Art of Regular Show was released earlier this month by Titan Books and we got our hands on a copy. The large format (11.4” x 8.9”) 160 page collection of animation stills, sketches, storyboards, and commentaries chronicles the shows creation and its eccentric cast. We see how a rough set of proto-characters evolved into the Pops, Mordecai and Benson that we’ve come to know in the series.

If you’re not familiar with the series, Regular Show is an American animated television series created by J. G. Quintel for Cartoon Network that premiered in 2010. The series revolves around the lives of two friends, a blue jay named Mordecai and a raccoon named Rigby—both employed as groundskeepers at a local park. Their regular attempts to slack off usually lead to surreal, extreme, and often supernatural misadventures.

(Cbr) It’s hard not to like Mordecai and Rigby, the animal heroes of Cartoon Network’s "Regular Show". Featuring the same brand of off-the-wall humor that has made shows like "Adventure Time" resonate with audiences, the hit series is now rounding the bases on its fifth season. At WonderCon 2014 in Anaheim, the writers and voice actors behind the hit series hosted a panel full of laughs to discuss the current season and what’s next for Mordecai, Rigby and the rest of the gang. The panel began with a video spotlight introducing the assembled talent with clips from previous shows they’ve worked on. "Regular Show" writer Matt Price then waltzed onto the stage in “tants” — pants with a square top around the waist — which Price said come in very handy, especially considering he has to put his notes for the panel down somewhere.
