"To a new friendship!" "Cheers!" Bleecker Street has revealed the first look teaser trailer for a horror thriller dark comedy called Bone Lake, arriving to watch starting in October in theaters. This originally premiered at Fantastic Fest last year, but didn't show up at too many other fests since then. When two young couples are mistakenly double-booked into the same vacation rental, their romantic weekend becomes a twisted maze of sex, lies, and survival. It's directed by Mercedes Bryce Morgan as her latest horror feature following Spoonful of Sugar and Fixation. Starring Maddie Hasson, Marco Pigossi, Alex Roe, Andra Nechita, Eliane Reis, and Clayton Spencer. Lots of fun critics' quotes packed into this teaser trailer, describing it as "steamy and twisted", and "an absolute blast from start to finish." Airbnb seems to be the new go-to scary location for Gen Z horror films. After all, a double-booked Airbnb was used to great effect in Zach Cregger’s Barbarian, and now it’s the setting of what’s being called an “erotic horror thriller” called Bone Lake, which is directed by Mercedes Bryce Morgan (Shudder’s Spoonful of Sugar). Bleeker Street, which is putting the movie out theatrically, just debuted a red-band teaser trailer that sets the stage nicely for what should be a fun horror flick with loads of skin once it hits theatres on October 24th.
Bone Lake made its debut at Fantastic Fest last fall and was extremely well-reviewed. It currently sports a 95% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Here’s the synopsis:

If movies like Barbarian didn’t already have you living in fear that you’d accidentally book a rental unit for the same weekend as another person or group, the debut trailer for Bone Lake should do the trick. It’s a champagne problem kind of worst fear for the two couples at the center of the movie, who have each zipped off to their respective glamorous getaways only to discover that the mansion has been double-booked. Helmed by Mercedes Bryce Morgan (Spoonful of Sugar), the twisted tale is one overflowing with sexual tension, filled with lies and deceit, and featuring good-looking people behaving badly. With a leading ensemble that features Maddie Hasson (Elevation), Marco Pigossi (Gen V), Alex Roe (The Fugitives), and Andra Nechita (Cats Dancing on Jupiter), the trailer previews the chaotic trip that lies ahead for audiences when the movie arrives in cinemas later this year.

I was seated in the theater for Smile 2 when a trailer for George Nolfi’s Elevation came on. I was intrigued, largely because I hadn’t heard of it and have a profound, insatiable interest in monster movies. And then, I forgot the film existed.
Most of that is Smile 2’s fault. I couldn’t think about anything else for weeks, okay, and if you’ve seen Smile 2, you’ll know exactly what I mean. Months later, I was browsing Max when I saw Elevation was available to stream. My time had come! Better still, I enjoyed the film. I’m not the only one either, since Elevation has recently cracked the Top 10 on Max.
Learn more about the film below:
Per Max: Three years after creatures decimated humanity leaving survivors in the mountains, a father must venture below “The Line” to save his son.
Critical reviews of Elevation were mixed.

There is only one thing that’s more frustrating than Netflix telling you that too many people are using your account, and that’s when Netflix cancels a beloved series. You truly can’t catch a break, because the streaming platform did it again. What a shocker. Remember our all-time favorite rookie CIA lawyer with a minor (or major) hero complex who is constantly putting himself in danger? Yes, the talk is about Owen Hendricks (Noah Centineo) from the Netflix spy thriller The Recruit.
The Recruit was first released in 2022 and followed Owen all around the world as he was caught in the middle of dangerous conspiracies, deadly shootouts, and twisted lies from all sides. The second season of The Recruit kept up the same momentum, sending Owen all the way to South Korea (among other places). Owen clearly would have had much more in store, and so would many...

Fans of The Recruit are disappointed the show has ended, and it turns out there may be some particular reasons why Netflix canceled the popular spy series.
By now, it’s almost a joke how Netflix can hand out random cancellations to shows after just one or two seasons. Sure, the streamer can do some quick renewals, such as a second season for the comedy series Running Point just a week after the show debuted. However, if we were to talk about all the great shows Netflix canceled after a short run, we’d be here all day.
That said, it was still unexpected for Netflix to cancel The Recruit just a few weeks after season 2 premiered. The spy thriller with Noah Centineo as a lawyer thrust into crazy CIA adventures dropped its six-episode second season on January 30. Thus, being canceled after only a month and a half was surprising...

Netflix has sadly canceled Noah Centineo‘s underrated spy action comedy-drama series The Recruit after Season 2. Created by Alexi Hawley, the Netflix original series was canceled nearly six weeks after the premiere of The Recruit Season 2 at the end of January.
The news of the cancelation was first revealed by Centineo’s co-star Colton Dunn on social media, after which Netflix confirmed the cancelation.
The Recruit follows Owen Hendricks (Centineo), a CIA lawyer who gets embroiled in an international espionage situation after a dangerous and seductive woman blackmails the agency to get her out of jail, or she will reveal the CIA’s dirty secrets.
The Netflix series also stars Laura Haddock, Aarti Mann, Fivel Stewart, Daniel Quincy Annoh, Kristian Bruun, Vondie Curtis-Hall, Kaylah Zander, Maddie Hasson, Angel Parker, Teo Yoo, and Nathan Fillion.

Netflix’s The Recruit was the perfect mix of action, humor, and chaos, led by Noah Centineo as the unlucky but resourceful CIA lawyer Owen Hendricks. Across two seasons, the show delivered high-stakes missions, unexpected twists, and plenty of moments where Owen found himself in way over his head.
Season 2 took things to the next level, moving the action to South Korea and introducing new characters like Teo Yoo’s dangerous and mysterious operative. It was the kind of spy dramedy that kept you on the edge of your seat one minute and laughing the next, exactly what made it so fun to watch.

And yet, despite all that, Netflix decided to pull the plug after just two seasons. Even with strong viewership numbers and a dedicated fanbase, The Recruit joins the ever-growing list of shows canceled way too soon.

Season two of the spy thriller found CIA Lawyer, Owen Hendricks, pulled into a life-threatening espionage situation in South Korea, only to realize that the bigger threat just might be coming from inside the Agency. The season would premiere after Netflix went all in on the marketing push for their one-two punch of spy series returning for second seasons, with the other being The Night Agent.

While Netflix remains the undisputed king of streaming as far as subscriber numbers go, there's a heck of a lot of stuff happening elsewhere, and a lot of it is actually quite good. Apple TV+ sticks out as the most salient example, with the platform churning out a string of top-quality series from "Slow Horses" to TV's trippiest mind-bender "Severance," the second season of which is even better than the first.

Before Captain America: Brave New World, Anthony Mackie battled monsters in the post-apocalyptic film Elevation, which was released in select theaters in 2024. Although critics dismissed the film as another War of the Words knockoff, audiences have grown fond of it, as evidenced by its fresh audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. But now more people can discover the underrated sci-fi flick as it arrives on a new streaming home this month.
Starting Feb. 21, Elevation is now available to stream on Max. The film follows Mackie as a single father in a post-apocalyptic world ravaged by massive, alien-like creatures. Alongside fellow MCU star Morena Baccarin, and Maddie Hasson, the trio venture beyond "The Line," where monsters live on Earth below 8,000 feet. It's part A Quiet Place and War of the Worlds, while finds Elevation finds its own formula that genuinely feels like a fresh addition to the sci-fi action subgenre. As of Feb.

It’s safe to say that Noah Centineo’s turn as a CIA lawyer reluctantly thrust into an action-packed thriller of real life spies has captivated audiences. The Recruit, created by Alexi Hawley, is No. 3 among Netflix’s top 10 TV shows since it returned with season two at the end of January.
In season one, fans were introduced to Centineo’s character Owen Hendricks. The role was unlike many the 28-year-old had previously taken on, trading in his status as rom-com leading man for action star. Ahead of Elevation’s UK release, we talk to George Nolfi about monsters, the state of original screenwriting, and his plans for Star Wars.
Since his career began over two decades ago, writer-director George Nolfi has brought a level of thoughtfulness to his genre movies. In The Adjustment Bureau, his 2011 directorial debut, he adapted a Philip K Dick short story as a philosophical sci-fi romance starring Matt Damon and Emily Blunt – something that might have wrong-footed audiences expecting an action thriller in the vein of earlier adaptations of Dick’s other work, most obviously the ultra-violent blockbuster, Total Recall.
Prior to that, Nolfi’s spec script, Honor Among Thieves, was bought up and re-christened as Ocean’s Twelve (2004) – director Steven Soderbergh’s smart, sparky all-star heist comedy. Nolfi also lent his writing talent to The Bourne Supremacy (albeit uncredited) and The Bourne Ultimatum (credited).

While Lester and Owen hide, Jang Kyun pays off the Russian officers who board the boat as they head to the docks.
Meanwhile, Dawn and her team meet up with Owen and the gang on the boat as they make their move to find Nan Hee and rescue her.

CIA lawyer Owen Hendricks starts Season 2 in a precarious situation—sidelined by his superiors after the tumultuous Prague operation from the previous season. With excess time and growing restlessness, a cryptic message about an old greymail case pulls him toward Seoul, South Korea, where peril awaits.
This mission represents more than routine work; it’s Owen’s opportunity to redeem himself or potentially meet his downfall. Personal connections to South Korea deepen the emotional complexity, as memories of his deceased father emerge during a treacherous conspiracy.
In Seoul, Owen becomes deeply involved with Jang Kyun, a South Korean intelligence agent whose wife Russian mercenaries have kidnapped. What initially appears as a straightforward rescue mission transforms into a complex plot linked to cryptocurrency, threatening global political stability.
Working with allies like Nichka Lashin, Max Meladze’s daughter, and Janus Ferber—an unenthusiastic partner—Owen confronts dangerous operatives, criminal organizations, and internal CIA challenges.

With a variety of films headed to Max next month, movie lovers won’t have to venture far in order to find something worth watching in February. Whether viewers want to laugh, cry, or lose themselves inside a fantasy world, Max has something for them. Next month might include Valentine’s Day, but that certainly doesn’t mean romance movies will be the only option.
While there will be plenty of romantic comedies for fans of love, Max also has various action, drama, horror, and fantasy films scheduled to arrive in February. No matter what audiences are in the mood to watch, they’re likely to find at least one film worth their while. As always, Max’s extensive catalog of must-watch movies continues to expand in February.

The Recruit season 2 just premiered on Netflix on Thursday, Jan. 30. I binge-watched all six episodes of the shorter second season (season 1 was eight episodes!), shared the season 2 ending, and speculated about what could be next for Owen Hendricks (Noah Centineo) in season 3.
First, I have to give some props to Alexi Hawley, the writers, the cast, and the crew for pulling off an incredible second season. There are a lot of spy shows on TV, but most of the shows aren't as well-made as this one. This story moves at a break-neck pace. Logistically, it must be a massive challenge to put this season together when the show is filmed in so many locations with so many big action sequences. It's a really, really good Netflix show!

Spoiler Alert: The story includes details about Season 2 of the Netflix series The Recruit.
Like a number of streaming series whose production was delayed by the Hollywood strikes, Netflix’s The Recruit is finally making a return after a two-year break. Season 2 picked up where the Season 1 finale of the series, starring Noah Centineo as rookie CIA lawyer Owen Hendricks, left off.
Abducted by his former asset Max’s (Laura Haddock), daughter Nichka (Maddie Hasson), Owen watched Nichka shoot her mom dead before she almost did the same to him. He was saved by CIA operative Dawn (Angel Parker) and her team only to barely escape being killed by her over his knowledge of her fake assets scheme. The two reached a truce and made a pact of mutual destruction, which Dawn soon broke, spending the season trying to kill Owen as well as Lester who also discovered her secret.
