Even Maga Republicans Are Torching Trump for Accepting Jet From Qatar
Image
It’s getting increasingly difficult for Republicans and even the Maga faithful to defend Donald Trump’s unconstitutional or otherwise misguided actions as president. In the case of Trump accepting a $400 million luxury jet from Qatar, they aren’t even trying — and some of them, including some of the president’s most loyal defenders, are going out of their way to bash the brazenly corrupt act.

Laura Loomer, the far-right conspiracy theorist and diehard Trump supporter (and adviser), was quick to respond to the news on Sunday that the administration...

Social Security ‘Clawback’ Change Could Bankrupt Seniors
Image
At 5 p.m. on Friday, March 7, Donald Trump’s Social Security Administration (Ssa) announced a change in policy that could easily bankrupt some of the program’s senior beneficiaries. The agency will now revert back to a more punishing policy that some Republican members of Congress previously publicly opposed — a policy that makes seniors bear the costs of the government’s mistakes.

The rule change will result in Social Security payments being stopped entirely to Americans who receive overpayments from the agency, until the balance is recouped. The change could devastate some program recipients,...

Twitch is getting backlash for its bans (and unbans). CEO Dan Clancy stepped in to explain why things are “tricky.”
Image
Twitch has a contentious history with bans. It used to ban streamers without telling them why, and–unlike on most platforms–its bans are usually a temporary slap on the wrist, ranging from just a few hours to 30 days. Since CEO Dan Clancy took over in 2023, Twitch has made some changes to its ban system, including finally informing streamers of the exact behavior that got them suspended.

But it still frequently faces backlash for how, when, and on whom it decides to bring down the banhammer.

The most recent creator to face a crackdown was Hasan Piker (aka HasanAbi), who was banned for 24 hours after saying that if people cared about Medicare or Medicaid fraud, “you would kill [U.S. Senator] Rick Scott.”

He later said this was “hyperbolic language,” and that “there’s definitely some ownership I must take” of using it.

Also recently banned was Piker disliker Ethan Klein, whose “content...

Have you heard? iShowSpeed the soccer pundit, payday for fake Tom Cruise, and TikTok telenovelas
Image
Each week, we handpick a selection of stories to give you a snapshot of trends, updates, business moves, and more from around the creator industry. This week, a soccer-loving creator does some TV time, a TikTok deepfake does good business, and the “airport theory” does in tardy travelers.

Creator commotion

iShowSpeed pivots to sports punditry on Ucl Today. Paramount+’s flagship studio show for its soccer coverage brought in a footie-loving creator for the Champions League Round of 16. Speed’s chaotic vibe made him a perfect fit with the Ucl Today crew, even if his takes were easy to predict. Surprise, surprise: Speed thinks Ronaldo is the Goat.

IanOnYouTube has his job back. 7-11 fired one of its most famous representatives, who shares dispatches from his job in short-form videos. At the time, we argued the personnel move was a bad idea — a few weeks later, 7-11 got the memo.

Treasury Secretary: ‘Access to Cheap Goods Isn’t the Essence of the American Dream’
Image
If Republicans’ crusade to fire tens of thousands of federal employees, raise prices through an ill-advised trade war, gut Medicaid and other social services, and generally make things more difficult for working class Americans wasn’t enough, they would also like you to stop being such a baby about it.

On Thursday, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent defended President Donald Trump’s decision to implement steep tariffs against Canada and Mexico, which economists and retailers warn could severely spike prices for consumer goods.

“Access to cheap goods is not the essence of the American dream,...

Does Trump Jan. 6 Pardon Plan Include the Seditionists?
Image
With Donald Trump winning back the White House, his Big Lie that Jan. 6 was just an enthusiastic rally that got out of hand, rather than an insurrectionist mob he unleashed to disrupt the count of the 2020 electoral college, has new currency.

A new congressional Republican report, spearheaded by Maga lapdog Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-Ga.) has recommended a criminal probe of former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) for co-chairing the House Jan. 6 investigation. Loudermilk’s report reached a through-the-looking-glass conclusion that Cheney & co. had promoted “a false, pre-determined narrative that President Trump...

Republicans Pick John Thune As Next Senate Majority Leader
Image
Sen. John Thune (R-Sd) was selected as the next Republican leader of the U.S. Senate, succeeding Mitch McConnell.

Thune defeated Sen. John Cornyn (R-tx) and Sen. Rick Scott (R-fl) in what was a hotly contested race. Scott was eliminated after the first ballot, and Thune won on the second, 29-24, according to Punchbowl News.

First elected in 2004, Thune has most recently served as minority whip. He will enter the next Congress as majority leader, one of Washington’s most powerful positions in that he will direct which legislation will make it to the Senate chamber for a vote.

Republicans are expected to have a 53-47 majority in the next Congress, after four years of Democratic rule. Coupled with an expected GOP majority in the House, Republicans will have full control of Congress and the executive branch, as well as a conservative majority on the Supreme Court.

John Thune Voted New Senate Majority Leader — Despite Maga’s Opposition
Image
After almost two decades leading the Republican Senate Caucus, Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell has finally been replaced.

Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.), who is currently the Senate’s Republican whip, will be the new Senate Majority Leader. Republican senators voted to replace McConnell in a secret ballot on Wednesday. Thune will assume the mantle when the new Congress is sworn in early next year. Republicans won back the Senate majority earlier this month, turning four seats red.

Thune, Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), and Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) were all in the running.

Will Republicans Install a Maga Stooge as Senate Majority Leader?
Image
Republicans are selecting their next Senate majority leader on Wednesday, to take power from the increasingly decrepit Mitch McConnell of Kentucky. Will the next GOP leader be a thorn in Trump’s side, as the old-school corporate conservative McConnell occasionally was, or a Maga fixer, greasing the skids to ram controversial appointees and legislation through the Senate?

The election will offer an early glimpse into official Washington’s view of Trump’s return to power. The ballot is also secret — providing a buffer of anonymity that may embolden the Senate...

Tony Hinchcliffe Refuses To Apologize For Trump Event Gig, But Says Madison Square Garden Rally May Not Have Been “Best F—ing Place” To Do Set
Image
Since Donald Trump won the presidential election, comedian Tony Hinchcliffe has been gloating a bit on social media over the fact that his Madison Square Garden performance was not the disaster for the campaign that many predicted.

He’s also not apologizing for his set at the October 27 Trump rally, in which he called Puerto Rico “a floating island of garbage” and made other racist jokes. Trump and his campaign tried to distance themselves from Hinchcliffe’s performance afterward.

The latest Kill Tony podcast, recorded the night after the Msg event, showed that while he refused to back away from his remarks, he acknowledged that the set may not have been the right venue. He also seemed to equate criticism of what he said to an attack on his free speech.

“It was a speech about free speech, believe it or not, and with that said, I just want to...

Trump Tells GOP to Bypass Senate Confirmation Process, Block Biden Judicial Appointments
Image
Despite enjoying a 53-47 majority in the next Senate, Donald Trump called for any Republican senator seeking the position of majority leader to agree to make recess appointments during his administration, bypassing the traditional confirmation process. He also told his party to block any lame-duck judicial appointments the Biden administration tries to push through.

“Any Republican Senator seeking the coveted Leadership position in the United States Senate must agree to Recess Appointments (in the Senate!), without which we will not be able to get people confirmed in a timely manner…...

Donald Trump Names Susie Wiles As His Chief Of Staff
Image
Donald Trump on Thursday named his campaign manager Susie Wiles as his next White House chief of staff, the first major position that the president-elect has announced since his election Tuesday.

Trump said in a statement, “Susie Wiles just helped me achieve one of the greatest political victories in American history, and was an integral part of both my 2016 and 2020 successful campaigns. Susie is tough, smart, innovative, and is universally admired and respected. Susie will continue to work tirelessly to Make America Great Again. It is a well deserved honor to have Susie as the first-ever female Chief of Staff in United States history. I have no doubt that she will make our country proud.”

Wiles appeared with Trump on stage at his election-night victory celebration, but she was the only one on stage who did not speak.

Along with Chris Lacivita, Wiles was credited with running a more disciplined...

The hurricane split pine trees like toothpicks. It chewed up chain link fences and laid highway billboards flat on their faces. It peeled the roof off Tropicana Field, where the Tampa Bay Rays play, and uncorked dozens of tornadoes, including one that ripped through a retirement community in St. Lucie County, Florida, killing six.

By the time Milton was finally over the Atlantic, it had left some $50 billion worth of damage behind, at least 24 dead, and one-third of the state’s gas stations empty.

‘Who Booked This F-cking Jerk?’: Trump Allies Pressed Campaign to Denounce Rally Comedian
Image
Donald Trump’s rally at Madison Square Garden in New York was planned as a national moment for the former president’s closing campaign message and — much to the displeasure of some Republicans — it did exactly that.

Trump and his ilk have not been particularly quiet about their views on immigrants. This campaign cycle has seen him refer to migrants as “poisoning the blood of our country,” invent a mythical “migrant crime wave” to demonize undocumented immigrants, and promise “bloody” mass deportations. If the racism is loud at most Trump events,...

Bad Bunny And Jennifer Lopez Express Support For Kamala Harris As Trump Rally Comedian Calls Puerto Rico A “Floating Pile Of Garbage” — Update
Image
Bad Bunny, the Puerto Rican recording artist, and Jennifer Lopez today expressed support for Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election, as they shared a video of the vice president’s plans for the U.S. territory.

They each highlighted their backing of Harris on their Instagram accounts as Donald Trump held a rally at Madison Square Garden in which one of the speakers, comedian Tony Hinchcliffe, called Puerto Rico a “floating pile of garbage.”

In the video shared by Bad Bunny, Harris said, “I will never forget what Donald Trump did, and what he did not do, when Puerto Rico needed a caring and a competent leader. He abandoned the island, tried to block aid after back-to-back devastating hurricanes and offered nothing more than paper towels and insults.” The recording artist has 45.6 million Instagram followers.

Lopez, who has 250 million followers, posted the video before the Trump rally and additional support...

Donald Trump’s Madison Square Garden Rally Opens With Speakers Ranting About “F—ing Illegals,” Puerto Rico A “Floating Pile Of Garbage” And Kamala Harris As The “Antichrist”
Image
Donald Trump’s rally today at Madison Square Garden was marked by an opening lineup of speakers who joked about Puerto Rico being a “floating pile of garbage,” ranted about “f—ing illegals” and declared that Kamala Harris was the “antichrist.”

The extreme rhetoric is often a feature at Trump events, but in a neck-and-neck presidential race, when campaigns have traditionally tried to display messages of unity in the final days before an election, the rally stoked racial division and highlighted stereotypes.

Tony Hinchcliffe, a comedian, said of Latinos: “they love making babies. They do. They do. There’s no pulling out. They don’t do that. They come inside, just like they did to our country.”

He also said, “There is literally a floating pile of garbage in the middle of the ocean right now. I think it’s called Puerto Rico.” He also joked about Black people carving watermelons for Halloween.

The Black Keys Playing “America Loves Crypto” Concert
Image
There’s apparently still plenty of money to be made in crypto because The Black Keys have signed on to play the final show of “The America Loves Crypto Tour,” which is a not-at-all ridiculously named concert series hosted by the (we kid you not) Stand with Crypto Alliance political action committee.

The “intimate show” goes down next Friday, October 25th at the Akron Civic Theatre in The Black Keys’ hometown of Akron, Ohio. Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney are just the latest musicians to play in support of the Pac. Previous shows featured performances from Black Pumas, 070 Shake, Big Sean, Jessie Murph, Lauv, and of course, The Chainsmokers.

So while the music industry’s Nft boom is long gone, it appears crypto’s big bet on the 2024 elections has offered a new set of opportunities.

Stand with Crypto Alliance’s endorsements in the upcoming election include notorious Republicans like Ted Cruz,...

Gavin Newsom Says Kamala Harris Has To “Make The Case She’s Not Joe Biden, And She Sure As Hell Ain’t Donald Trump” – Update
Image
Updated: California Gov. Gavin Newsom, one of the spin room surrogates for Kamala Harris, told reporters that the debate will be an opportunity to “take the best of the Biden record, but also make the case that she’s not Joe Biden, and she sure as hell ain’t Donald Trump.”

“She is a new generation, a leader, and that’s her opportunity,” he said.

Newsom was a surrogate for Biden as well, and appeared at the spin room in June, a disastrous night for the president.

Newsom also said that Harris has to communicate “a vision where people feel heard and included.”

People have to “feel that she’s talking about them, and Donald Trump, in contrast, we know will be talking about himself.”

The governor said that he was not nervous about the debate, but said that if Trump “feels he’s losing, this will be very interesting,...

Image
Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-Florida) is temporarily withdrawing from his controversial proposal to develop golf courses, pickleball courts and hotels in Florida state parks.

DeSantis’ Department of Environmental Protection disclosed the “2023-24 Great Outdoors Initiative” plans last week and planned one hour of public hearings after the nine affected parks.

According to a press release, the proposal would “increase the number of outdoor recreation opportunities available at Florida’s state parks, including pickleball, disc golf, golf and paddling.”

window._taboola = window._taboola || []; _taboola.push({ mode: 'thumbnails-mid', container: 'taboola-mid-article-thumbnails', placement: 'Mid Article Thumbnails', target_type: 'mix' });

“Today’s announcement reinforces the DeSantis Administration’s record support for conserving our natural landscapes and commitment to ensuring every Floridian can visit and recreate at Florida’s state parks,” the release states.

“This includes the 2023-24 Great Outdoors Initiative, which offered 50% discounts for Florida State Parks annual passes and Florida’s Freedom Summer Kickoff on Memorial Day,...

Typhoon Gaemi Impacts L.A.’s Inaugural World Culture Film Festival, Keeping Major Filmmaker From Opening Night, But Zoom Comes To Rescue

The inaugural World Culture Film Festival in Los Angeles has found itself impacted by a dangerous storm half a world away.

Typhoon Gaemi, with top winds speeds equaling a category 3 hurricane, lashed the Philippines and Taiwan before blowing into China Thursday night. It caused widespread travel disruptions all the way west into Bhutan, where filmmaker Pawo Choyning Dorji had been attempting to get a flight to Los Angeles for the opening night of Wcff, a new event that describes itself as a platform for “entertainment that uplifts.”

The festival went ahead with the screening of Dorji’s Oscar-shortlisted dramedy The Monk and the Gun, but instead of being on the ground in L.A., the director participated in a Q&a via Zoom.

Filmmaker Pawo Choyning Dorji joins the World Culture Film Festival via Zoom from Bhutan.

Former GOP Rep. Liz Cheney Mocks Speaker Mike Johnson For Supporting Trump At Trial: ‘I Guess He’s Not Concerned With Teaching Morality’
Image
House Speaker Mike Johnson made headlines on Tuesday when he attended former President Donald Trump’s criminal trial in New York. In doing so, he became the highest-ranking Republican official to offer support to Trump and endorse his criticisms of the U.S. justice system.

Johnson is the most recent GOP figure to visit the courtroom as he faces accusations that he falsified business records to conceal hush money payments directed to adult film star Stormy Daniels before the 2016 presidential election. Alongside Trump at the courthouse were Gov. Doug Burgum (R-North Dakota), who has been mentioned as a potential running mate for Trump in the 2024 election, as well as Rep. Byron Donalds (R-Florida.) and Rep. Cory Mills (R-Florida.).

Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio), another potential vice presidential candidate, along with Sens. Tommy Tuberville (R-Alabama) and Rick Scott (R-Florida), had previously appeared at the trial to show their support for Trump.

Right-Wingers Are Already Pushing Conspiracy Theories About Baltimore Bridge Collapse

The Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore collapsed after a 948-foot-long container ship collided with it early Tuesday. Stunning video of the incident has circulated online, and search-and-rescue procedures are currently underway. “This is an unthinkable tragedy,” Baltimore’s Democratic mayor, Brandon Scott, said at a press conference. “We have to first and foremost pray for all of those who are impacted, those families, pray for our first responders and thank them.”

Maine Secretary Of State Shenna Bellows Targeted In Swatting Incident After Banning Trump From State’s Ballot For Support ‘Insurrection’
Image
Swatting incidents seem to be on the rise this season.

A week after Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Gerogia) and her family found themselves in swatting incidents, Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows (D) is having her own experience.

She posted a statement on Facebook to inform others that she and her husband, Brandon, are safe.

“Many of you have asked if Brandon and I are safe,” Bellows wrote. “We are away for the holiday weekend. We were not home yesterday when threats escalated, and our home address was posted online. It was a good thing because our home was swatted last night.”

Swatting is the term used when authorities are prank-called to a certain address in an effort to have a team of police officers gather there.

On Friday night, Maine State Police said a call was made by a man who claimed that he had broken into an Augusta home.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene Says Her Daughters Were Targeted In Swatting Incidents
Image
In a post on X Thursday afternoon, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) disclosed that her two daughters were victims of swatting.

Swatting refers to the act of making false emergency claims that trigger an extensive response from law enforcement agencies, typically targeted at public figures’ residences.

Greene wrote, “Both my daughter’s houses just got swatted today. Big thanks to the police who responded! We appreciate you and support you!”

Greene added, “Whoever is doing this, you are going to get caught and it won’t be funny to you anymore,” before she tagged the FBI account.

This incident shortly follows Greene’s own swatting encounter.

I was just swatted.

This is like the 8th time.

My local police are the Greatest and shouldn’t have to deal with this.

I appreciate them so much and my family and I are in joyous spirits...

In a post on X, Scott condemned the act and expressed gratitude towards law enforcement agencies for their response.

“Last night, while at dinner with my wife, cowards ‘swatted’ my home in Naples. These criminals wasted the time & resources of our law enforcement in a sick attempt to terrorize my family.”

Swatting refers to the act of falsely reporting a crime or emergency to authorities in order to prompt a police response at a specific location.

Lt. Bryan McGinn, spokesperson for the Naples Police Department, confirmed that the department received a call about a shooting on its non-emergency line, but upon investigation, it was determined to be a swatting event. The incident is currently under active investigation.

The incident report associated with the swatting call recorded a male caller who...

The Proud Boys Are Paying for Jan. 6. Are Trump and His Cronies Next?
Image
Enrique Tarrio — the capo of the Proud Boys on Jan. 6 — has been sentenced to 22 years in federal prison for his part in the seditious conspiracy to block the peaceful transfer of power to President Joe Biden following the 2020 election. Tarrio’s two-decade sentence — the stiffest yet for a Jan. 6 defendant — was handed down Tuesday afternoon in a packed Washington, D.C., courtroom.

Tarrio’s prison term tops that delivered to Stewart Rhodes, the leader of the Oath Keepers, who received 18 years for leading that militia’s seditious conspiracy plot on Jan.

Still Unvaccinated, Novak Djokovic Withdraws From Indian Wells Atp Masters Event
Image
World No. 1 tennis player Novak Djokovic’s vaccination status appears to again be causing him to miss a significant tournament, possibly two. Organizers of the Atp Indian Wells Masters event, which begins this week in California, confirmed his withdrawal late Sunday.

Djokovic, who is unable to enter the U.S. because he is not vaccinated against Covid, had petitioned authorities for special dispensation, but was evidently unsuccessful in his bid. He will be replaced in the field by Nikoloz Basilashvili.

The U.S. does not allow unvaccinated international travelers to enter the country. The policy is expected to last until at least mid-April.

The BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells is followed by the Miami Open later this month.

Marjorie Taylor Greene Screams “Liar” At Joe Biden During Sotu; Potus Taunts GOP Over Medicare & Social Security Sunset Proposals
Image
The veneer of bipartisan civility didn’t last long tonight at Joe Biden’s second State of the Union address – – and that was all right with the president and Democrats.

Less than an hour into Biden’s speech before members of the House of Representatives and the Senate, it all turned into a screaming match after Potus accused some Republicans of wanting “Medicare and Social Security to sunset.” To a cascade of boos, and as the government faces a potential debt default, the Democrat added: ”I’m not saying it’s a majority. Anybody who doubts it, contact my office — I’ll give you a copy of the proposal.”

State of the Union: Joe Biden’s Speech Gave A Glimpse Of Potential 2024 Presidential Run; “Let’s Finish The Job”
Image
Updated: Joe Biden’s State of the Union included a number of gestures to Republicans, promotion of the spirit of bipartisanship and mention of a whole host of issues that garner backing from both parties.

But there were plenty of outbursts among the GOP, signaling how unlikely it probably is that this Congress will see major legislation on immigration and certainly gun violence. Republicans heckled when Biden attacked his predecessor for driving up the deficit, and some did even when the president mentioned a proposal to restrict non-compete agreements. At another point, when Biden talked of the fentanyl crisis, one Republican shouted, “It’s your fault!”

GOP in Disarray: Rick Scott Whines About Mitch McConnell Being Petty
Image
If you come at the most ruthless political operator in recent history, you better not miss.

Rick Scott attempted to oust Mitch McConnell as the top Republican in the Senate following last year’s midterm elections. He failed, and now McConnell has yanked Scott from the influential Senate Commerce Committee. Scott is not happy.

“I represent the third-biggest state in the country,” the Florida senator griped to Fox News on Wednesday, adding that he felt McConnell booted him because he “ran against him.”

He continued to whine on Thursday. “I...

‘SNL’: Weekend Update Takes Jabs At Donald Trump, Walt Disney World & Kanye West
Image
Colin Jost and Michael Che were back roasting the week in politics and pop culture on Saturday Night Live’s “Weekend Update” and this time Donald Trump, Kanye West and Walt Disney World took some hits.

Jost started off the night by poking fun at Trump after Facebook announced they were reinstating the former President of the United States adding, “But this time they’ll put guardrails in place to keep him under control, which I think is the same thing they said every time they tried to reopen Jurassic Park. Also, what even are guardrails on Facebook and can they apply to my uncle? Because he’s posted some very disturbing fan fiction about the green M&M.”

Republicans Want to Force AT&T to Carry Trumpy Propaganda Network
Image
Republican lawmakers have rushed to the defense of far-right TV network Newsmax after the channel was dropped by AT&T’s DirecTV. According to the satellite television provider, the split stemmed from a carriage fee dispute that would have resulted in “significantly higher costs” and increased customer fees. The channel claims they are being wrongfully censored for their political viewpoints, and have already found allies amongst Republican lawmakers.

The party of free-market capitalism has responded to DirecTV booting Newsmax by arguing that the network should carry the Trump-loving propaganda network, financial considerations be damned.

Donald Trump Lashes Out After Rupert Murdoch-Owned Media Outlets Pin Blame On Him For Midterm Mess, Claims They Are “All In” For Ron DeSantis — Update
Image
Update, 3:10 Pm: Donald Trump groused that the “no longer great” New York Post and The Wall Street Journal are “all in” for Ron DeSantis, his potential rival for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024.

Trump also bashed DeSantis, labeling him as “Ron DeSanctimonious” and as an “average Republican Governor with great Public Relations.”

“Ron came to me in desperate shape in 2017—he was politically dead, losing in a landslide to a very good Agriculture Commissioner, Adam Putnam, who was loaded up with cash and great poll numbers,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Ron had low approval, bad polls, and no money, but he said that if I would Endorse him, he could win. I didn’t know Adam so I said, “Let’s give it a shot, Ron.” When I Endorsed it was as though, to use a bad term, a nuclear weapon went off.”

He took further credit for...

Republicans Are Calling the Roe Leak an ‘Insurrection’
Image
Republicans — the party that decided it was pretty much fine that a violent mob stormed the Capitol to try to overturn Donald Trump’s 2020 election loss — are clutching all of their pearls over the leak of a Supreme Court draft opinion that overturns Roe v. Wade.

Indeed, in a delicious bit of projection, they’re claiming that the leak amounts to… wait for it… an “insurrection” against the judicial body.

Although the leaker’s identity is unknown — and although there is not yet one iota of evidence about the leaker...

Rick Scott Can’t Even Get Fox News to Buy His Bullshit

Republican Sen. Rick Scott couldn’t convince Fox News host John Roberts to buy his ridiculous 11 point “Plan to Rescue America,” which includes proposals to force all Americans to pay income tax, sunset all federal legislation within five years, and complete the border wall between the U.S. and Mexico to name it after former President Donald Trump.

“You recently put out an 11-point plan to rescue America,” Roberts said when interviewing Scott on Fox News Sunday. “Two of the big points are, quote: ‘All Americans should pay some income...

Trump Says He’s Pro-Ukraine — Days After Calling Putin’s Plan ‘Genius’
Image
Donald Trump on Saturday claimed to be a supporter of Ukraine, days after saying Russian President Vladimir Putin was a “genius” for starting the invasion.

“The Russian attack on Ukraine is appalling. It’s an outrage, and an atrocity that should never have been allowed to occur,” he said Saturday night at Cpac. “We are praying for the proud people of Ukraine.”

Trump immediately steered his remarks back to his favorite topic: his false claim that he was the winner of the 2020 election. “As everyone understands, this horrific disaster would...

Sen. Rick Scott Calls On NBCUniversal To Urge That 2022 Winter Olympics Be Relocated From China
Image
Sen. Rick Scott (R-fl) is calling for NBCUniversal to urge the International Olympic Committee relocate the 2022 Winter Olympics from Beijing, citing the Chinese government’s human rights abuses.

Scott said in a statement Tuesday that NBC News’ own reporting “has detailed the horrors faced by Uyghurs in Xinjiang and the genocide being committed against them by the government of Communist China. Yet this American network continues to turn a blind eye to Communist China’s atrocities when it comes to allowing Beijing to host the 2022 Olympic Games, apparently preferring instead to give General Secretary Xi a platform to whitewash his horrific crimes with the grand spectacle of the 2022 Olympic Games.”

Scott had fired off letters to the network several times, most recently calling on the network to not just call for moving the Games but to threaten to not air it.

He got a recent response from Phil Tahtakran, NBCUniversal head of government affairs,...

Image
Updated with ViacomCBS statement: Nearly two weeks after the Capitol siege prompted a host of companies to suspend political contributions to those opposing the certifying of President-elect Joe Biden’s victory, ViacomCBS has joined the list.

“ViacomCBS supports peaceful civic engagement and the orderly transition of power in the democratic process,” the company said in a statement. “We therefore condemn the recent attack on the U.S. Capitol, and have paused contributions from our political action committee to members of Congress who voted against certification of the 2020 U.S. Electoral College results.”

Previously, January 11 Pm: AT&T, the parent company of WarnerMedia, and Comcast, parent company of NBCUniversal, are the latest corporations to halt political contributions to lawmakers who objected to the certification of the electoral vote last week in favor of Joe Biden, an event that was at the center of the siege of the Capitol by supporters of Donald Trump.
