Gamescom 2024 Predictions – From Resident Evil to Iron Man and Everything In Between
Image
This year’s event in Cologne will mark the first Gamescom that has taken place since the official demise of E3. After the Summer Games Fest in June was something of a disappointment, Gamescom has a clear run to give us all of the exciting announcements that we have been craving after plodding though a fairly unremarkable year in terms of major game releases.

Fingers crossed that 2025 will be a more stacked year than 2024 was, and Gamescom 2024 could be the perfect time to make drop those up and coming reveals. With only have a couple of days left to wait before the event kicks off, let’s get on with our predictions for Gamescom 2024 Fest courtesy of the FandomWire Gaming staff:

2024 Xbox Games Showcase Predictions – From The ‘Never Going to Happens’ to the Guaranteed Appearances
Image
The Xbox Games Showcase is one of the biggest events of the gaming calendar, and after PlayStation’s State of Play and Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest, it presents the last big opportunity for gamers to see what’s in store for the following couple of years, at least until Gamescom in August.

Geoff Keighley (of Summer Game Fest fame) went public with his attempt at downplaying the hype around his own showcase this year, which was a first, and with the poor showing of PlayStation, many believe this points to a bumper year for the Xbox Games Showcase.

As with any other showcase, we’ve taken the time to try and figure out the most, least, and completely unlikely predictions for what we may see in the showcase!

Luke Addison – Gaming Lead Halo: Combat Evolved is already rumoured to appear at Xbox Games Showcase.

2024 Summer Games Fest Predictions – From the Painfully Obvious To the Utterly Outlandish
Image
2024 will mark the first Summer Game Fest that has taken place since the formal demise of E3. With the competition officially dead and buried, the gaming industry staple that is Geoff Keighley now theoretically has a clear run to claim all of the huge announcements for himself. With that being said, we are already aware that 2024 is going to be a quieter year in terms of significant game releases.

In fact, Geoff has actually already attempted to quell the hype levels somewhat through his Q&a, claiming that the show will be an eight out of ten. Although, the tinfoil hat wearers amongst the community have claimed that his statement was nothing more than a cheap ploy to throw audiences off.

Whatever the case may be, we only have a couple of days left to wait before the big show takes place, so without further ado, let’s get on...

May 2024 PlayStation State of Play Predictions – From Locks to Longshots, This Is What We Want (and Desperately Need) To See
Image
At the time of writing this, Sony has just announced the PlayStation State of Play for May 2024. With the summer showcase season, just around the corner, it will be interesting to see how Sony lays out their upcoming slate for the next few years.

Add to that the fact that this is Sony’s time to really shine and show everyone why PlayStation is king. With Xbox failing to deliver the goods as of late, and a lack of first party PS5 titles confirmed, now seems like the perfect time for the PlayStation State of Play to drop.

So below, each member of the FandomWire Gaming team has made a prediction for what they expect to see during the event respectively. I will list these below followed by a bit of commentary on how likely I believe each prediction is:

Following XDefiant, 1 Upcoming Shooter Won’t be Featuring Sbmm – Will Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Follow Suit?
Image
A new title is entering the ring of shooters and is set to follow a trend that the newly released XDefiant has been receiving both praise and backlash for; Digital Cybercherries’ Hypercharge: Unboxed launches on Xbox imminently without one staple feature.

Just like Ubisoft’s shooter, the new action figure game won’t feature skill-based matchmaking (Sbmm), a mechanic that has been a topic of heated debate for a long time, particularly within the Call of Duty community. Now the question remains whether Black Ops 6 will follow this Sbmm-free trend.

Hypercharge: Unboxed Is ‘All About the Fun’

Just like XDefiant, Hypercharge won’t have skill-based matchmaking.

Digital Cybercherries’ Hypercharge is a 90s-inspired first- and third-person shooter in which players assume the role of action figures. In the style of Toy Story, players face off against NPCs and player-controlled toys.

The shooter, which FandomWire critic Daniel Boyd regards as one of...

“Nobody will notice”: Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora Dev Describes Incredible if Unnoticeable Detail that Explains why the Game is so Beautiful
Image
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora invites players to the world of Pandora, exploring regions and other biomes of the hostile world and immersing themselves further as they take on the role of one of the Na’vi. Taking inspiration from the films, this game takes place at different points from the movies, years before Jake Sully landed and defeated the Rda occupation and mostly in the year 2169 which was 15 years after the battle of the Hallelujah Mountains.

The beauty of Pandora is truly breathtaking, especially at night when the planet is dark and stars are far more visible. The developers took their jobs way too seriously and took it up by a notch by putting the stars in the constellation of Centaurus, also known as Alpha Centauri. This adds more detail to the planet’s night sky, making it even more realistic and immersive. James Cameron’s Avatar has touched and...

Ubisoft’s Skull and Bones Does One Thing Better than Any Other Game, Without Question
Image
Skull and Bones saw release a few weeks ago and it hasn’t made the splash most people anticipated. With its over decade-long development cycle, right after Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag in 2013, Ubisoft has finally delivered the product after numerous delays.

While streamers and players occupy the servers, others are wondering what it will take to have them dive into Skull and Bones? Is it the ambition of living out the pirate’s dream of sailing the seas? Or the multiplayer action you can have with your friends? Would you believe that the Photo Mode in Skull and Bones is better than any game on the market right now?

Ubisoft’s Skull and Bones Delivers An Amazing Photo Mode If there’s one good thing about Skull and Bones, it’s the Photo Mode.

While Skull and Bones has its shortcomings, Ubisoft made sure to deliver a great Photo Mode.

Image

Skull and Bones Season 1 brings new content in an attempt to retain players to save the game. Ubisoft has also announced that the game has achieved a player engagement milestone despite the lukewarm response, making Skull and Bones Ubisoft’s one of the most engaging games.

Skull and Bones Season 1 “Raging Tides” kicked off on February 27 and brings a new pirate enemy, new in-game events, leaderboard rewards, and quality-of-life improvements to make the experience better for players.

Senator Levoy In ‘Reacher’ Season 2, Explained: Does He Get Arrested?
Image
Corrupt bureaucracy, depraved cops, greedy business tycoons, and degenerate celebs are as recurrent in Reacher’s lore as one would generally expect from crime thrillers and mostly serve to set up conflicts or act as catalysts in the flow of the narrative. Among these varied dregs of society, crooked politicians seem to have a knack of getting in Reacher’s way more often. Perhaps Reacher’s anti-authoritarian stance acts as a magnet to draw out the rot in the system, which was highlighted in the first season with Mayor Teale of Margrave, whose partnership with the shrewd business magnate Kliner drained the suburb from within. In the second season, matching the higher stakes of the narrative, Reacher faces another hurdle in the form of Senator Malcolm Levoy. Initially an accessory in Reacher’s investigation, Levoy’s involvement with the central crisis of the Littlewing conspiracy runs deep and continues until the very end.

‘Reacher’ Season 2 Episode 5 Recap & Spoilers: Is Swan Involved In The 110th Unit Killing Conspiracy?
Image
Yet another episode of the second season of Amazon Prime’s Reacher gets spent in investigation and building up the upcoming conflict between Reacher’s unit and the combined might of A.M. Langston. With three episodes remaining in the season, the showrunners are bound to rush the action during the final confrontation, and we are hoping that doesn’t hamper the flow of the narrative as a result. In the previous episode, while investigating the systematic killing of their 110th unit comrades, Reacher’s team learned that New Age Technology received a contract for a high-profile defense project named Littlewing, which they obtained with the political backing of a certain corrupt Senator Levoy. The team squeezed Levoy’s legislative director, Daniel Boyd, who spilled out the truth about Project Littlewing, which is software that can allow anti-aviation weaponry to bypass any form of radio redirection security. New Age’s chief of security,...

Reacher Season 2 Retcons 1 Popular Character's Ending (& Makes It Better)
Image
Spoilers are ahead for the end of Reacher season 2.

Reacher season 2 retcons a popular character's ending, making it even better and surprising viewers. The closer Reacher and his team get to solving the murder mystery, the more they realize it connects to a grand conspiracy. Finlay's return in Reacher season 2 improves his storyline, adds an element of surprise, and sets up the possibility of future appearances.

Reacher season 2 not only retcons the ending of one popular character but also makes it so much better. Like the original Lee Child novels, where each book walks through a standalone Jack Reacher adventure, Reacher's new season marks the beginning of a whole new arc for the titular character. Exactly 2 years, 7 months, and 19 days after his stint at Magrave, Jack Reacher finds himself reuniting with Neagley after a few of his former military team members mysteriously get murdered.

The closer he, Neagley, David,...

Shocking Reacher Character Return Confirms A Major Break From The Books
Image
Warning: Major spoilers for Reacher season 2 episode "A Night at the Symphony" below!

Fan favorite character Finlay returns in episode 4, aiding Reacher and the team in their investigation. Finlay's cameo suggests the possibility of future character returns, including Roscoe. Finlay feels unlikely to return again in season 2.

The last character viewers were expecting to see just appeared in the latest episode of Reacher, confirming the show is making a major break from the novels. Reacher season 1 adapted author Lee Child's Killing Floor, but the new series has leaped ahead to novel 11, Bad Luck and Trouble. Fan favorite Neagley (Maria Sten) returns alongside the titular character, as they reunite with their army unit to investigate the murder of an old friend. In classic Child fashion, the deeper the reunited members of the 110th Special Investigators dig, the darker it gets.

Viewers who enjoyed season 1 were heartbroken to learn neither Finlay nor...

‘Reacher’ Season 2 Episode 4 Recap & Spoilers: What Did Reacher Learn About Langston’s Motivation?
Image
After setting up the season’s central crisis through the first three episodes, Amazon Prime’s Reacher gradually establishes causality through a connection between the actions and objectives of the antagonists, letting viewers connect enough dots to figure out the big picture in the process. The previous episodes concerned Reacher learning about the systematic, brutal killings of his friends, members of the 110th unit of special investigators, and running his own investigation by taking the surviving members—Neagley, O’Donnell, and Dixon—along with him. NYPD Detective Russo, who is acting as the chief investigator of the case, briefly locks horns with Reacher but eventually agrees to help through a mutual information exchange. Eventually, the team learns about the involvement of the aerospace company New Age Technology in the murder mystery, and unbeknownst to them, the company’s chief of security, Shane Langston, is revealed to be responsible for the deaths of their comrades.
