Industry figures have paid tribute to John Campbell, magazine publisher, film producer and former Screen International advertising director, who died in January aged 70.

Journalist Christopher Pickard was at the just-concluded Cannes Film Festival as part of a film crew shooting “Cannes Uncut,” a feature-length documentary celebrating the iconic festival that will be ready in time for its 75th edition next year. He shares his experiences of shooting during this year’s festival exclusively with Variety.
Like many others, even in the week before the opening of the 74th Cannes Film Festival on July 6, we were still not certain if we would ever get to the south of France. Would the French government close its borders to Britain, or would the U.K. government stop people travelling to Europe? A team of veteran British media types will use this year’s Cannes Film Festival to shoot interviews and footage for feature-length documentary film “Cannes Uncut.”
The picture is intended to be completed by next year and will mark the iconic festival’s 75th anniversary. The finished film will mix interviews and current footage with archive material.
“Cannes Uncut” is being produced by Colin Burrows’ Special Treats Productions, a company well versed in behind-the-scenes and backstage investigations. It has produced a range of documentaries, TV movies and electronic press kits for the film, TV and music industries.
No distributor, broadcaster or streaming platform has yet been attached, though Special Treats says that it is currently in negotiations with sales agents.
Interviews and reporting will be handled by Burrows, film trade journalist Chris Pickard, critic and former Edinburgh Film Festival chief Mark Adams, and Richard Blanshard, who was accredited as the official photographer to the U.

The story of Ronnie Briggs, one of the U.K.’s most notorious and well-known criminals of the past century, will be making its way to TV screens thanks to “Odd Man Out,” an upcoming series produced by Brazil’s TeleImage.
The series will tell the true story of the once-petty thief straight from the source, using his co-authored autobiography from 2011, “Ronnie Biggs: Odd Man Out : the Last Straw” as its source material.
To that end, they have enlisted the help of the book’s co-author Christopher Pickard, who told Variety, “Patrick and his team at TeleImage understand the scope and scale of the story we are trying to tell of an ordinary man’s extraordinary full life. Film and Music Entertainment (F&Me) and Dutch producer JaJa Film Productions begin shooting in Rio.
Dutch production company JaJa Film Productions, UK’s Film and Music Entertainment (F&Me) and Rio de Janeiro’s Total Entertainment (as service producer) have kicked off shooting on Streetkids United II - The Girls From Rio.
The film is the follow up to the 2011 Berlinale Official Selection Generation film Streetkids United.
The second film - in what is to become a series - is being shot by F&Me and JaJa Film Productions to coincide with the second Street Child World Cup, organized in Rio by the Amos Trust prior to the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
