Exclusive: BritBox International has become something of an unlikely savior of the UK drama industry of late amid the co-pro crisis and the streamer has now swooped in for one of the BBC’s biggest upcoming series.
BritBox is co-producing and has taken rights in the U.S. and Canada on The Other Bennet Sister from The Power co-creator Sarah Quintrell and Industry producer Bad Wolf, which is based on the book by ex-BBC Two controller Janice Hadlow.
With casting close to being unveiled, the show that is set to roll cameras shortly tells the story of Mary Bennet – the seemingly unremarkable and overlooked middle sister in Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice.
Jane Tranter, who runs Bad Wolf, said “Georgian expert” Hadlow, a former BBC colleague, is “really good at looking around the edges of something in a creative and perceptive way.”

Sean “Diddy” Combs appeared in court Friday to plead not guilty to two new superseding indictments that were unveiled against him in January and earlier this month.
The 55-year-old’s normally dark hair was fully grey alongside a greying cropped beard he had grown since his arrest last September. As he entered the Manhattan federal courtroom, Combs smiled at his son Christian and daughter Chance, later giving a small wave to his mother Janice, who turned up halfway through the hour-long hearing.
Combs spoke confidently as he addressed U.S.

More than 20 years later, there is still so much love for Friends, and it's easy to see why. The sitcom has everything, including vibrant, relatable characters who never fail to make audiences laugh, and that goes beyond the six leads. Monica (Courteney Cox), Rachel (Jennifer Aniston), Ross (David Schwimmer), Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow), Chandler (Matthew Perry), and Joey (Matt LeBlanc) all have their memorable moments, but Friends also excels in side characters. After all, who can forget Janice's (Maggie Wheeler) surprise appearances or what Pheobe's husband, Mike (Paul Rudd), brought to the final season? Yet one of Friends' best side characters is underexplored.

There is an unbridled honesty to André Is an Idiot that is admirable, even if all of it doesn’t really work. It’s a simple, stark subject for a documentary: accomplished advertising creative André Ricciardi neglected to get a colonoscopy at the recommended age and when he finally did get one he learned he had Stage 4 Colon Cancer. In response to this death sentence, André decided to make a film about dying. It’s a bold idea, reflective of many of his ideas for commercials and otherwise.
Directed by Tony Benna, it’s snappily edited, full of good music and fun animation that band-aids terrifying procedures like chemotherapy. Its tone matches that of its subject: a mismatch of denial, optimism, and fatalism softened (constantly) by comedy. Ricciardi is surrounded by a deeply supportive family, a cavalcade of friends, and a team of top-notch doctors. There are lovely moments, such...

Were I to ask you to think of your ideal 88-minute PSA for colonoscopies, chances are you would have only two answers: Either “Huh?!?” or “That time Katie Couric got a colonoscopy on Today.”
Thanks to Tony Benna’s new documentary, André Is an Idiot, there’s now a viable third possibility.
Funny, sad and uncomfortable in shifting proportions, the film is at once an urgent public service announcement and a documentary memento mori — not always pleasant to watch, but far more pleasant to watch than the subject matter would suggest, since you wouldn’t normally think “watching a sarcastic guy die” and “Sundance audience award winner” go hand-in-hand.
The “André” in question is André Ricciardi, a San Francisco man who begins the documentary by recounting an unfortunate story of teenage masturbation that left him with splinters in his penis.

Tony Benna’s André Is an Idiot is just long enough to qualify as a feature film rather than an extended public service announcement, but make no mistake, it’s still a public service announcement. The message is conveyed loud and clear, in plain English right as the credits roll for extra emphasis: “Get A Fucking Colonoscopy.” Of course, the documentary’s subject, André Ricciardi, is well aware that that message would’ve meant less coming from some anonymous, unrelatable nerd in a white coat, or some suit working for Health and Human Services. Faced with a death sentence of a diagnosis, and armed with a sardonic humor, Ricciardi makes for a perfect emissary for the film’s ultimate call to action.
Messaging was the man’s business. Ricciardi was a grungy, wild-haired ad creative partly responsible for some extremely well-known advertising campaigns over the last two decades. We’re...

On the surface, The Sopranos can look like a simple mafia story, featuring lots of sex and violence and not much else. Fans, however, know that the series was much smarter than many crime dramas. Exploring mental health, generational trauma, and philosophy, the HBO show was full of subtle symbolism and hidden messages. From The Sopranos' premiere back in 1999 to the present, viewers have enjoyed watching and rewatching to find new meanings and interpretations. One mystery, however, remains unsolved decades later and still has fans debating with each other.
In two different episodes of the third season, an unknown man appears on the stairs, standing still in one case and going up with other characters in the other people. In both cases, the figure briefly stands over the shoulder of a main character, seeming to linger ominously. It's unclear who this man is, or even if it's the same man in both episodes,...

It’s usually seen as a slight on a documentary to liken it to a public service announcement. However, given that the late André Ricciardi — star, subject and producer of “André is an Idiot” — was a successful and innovative advertising creative director in San Francisco, he probably wouldn’t mind the comparison. For the most part, Tony Benna’s film is an intimate, offbeat portrait of the three years that Ricciardi spent living with colonic cancer: both a candid treatment diary and a close-up character study of an unusual personality, colored by Ricciardi’s own peculiar and unyielding sense of humor. But it also functions as a straightforward message movie. “Get yourself a fucking colonoscopy,” states a title card before the closing credits roll — not the first time the doc underlines that basic imperative.
Ricciardi, you see, did not, and this negligence ultimately cost him his life. The disease was only diagnosed at stage four,...

The idea of a strangers meeting and agreeing to commit a murder swap of their respective spouses is tantalizing. Patricia Highsmith and Alfred Hitchcock famously explored the idea in Strangers on a Train, which is the clear precursor to Tubi’s latest thriller, A Kill for a Kill, though the new film gender-and race-swaps the characters.

As wildfires continue to ravage areas of Los Angeles, thousands have tragically lost their homes, including several Hollywood stars.
The fire started Tuesday in Pacific Palisades, before spreading to parts of Malibu and Santa Monica overnight. Though the Palisades and Eaton fires were at zero containment for days, as of Monday, the Palisades Fire was 14 percent contained, while The Eaton fire in Altadena was roughly one-third contained, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

Multiple celebrities have lost their homes as several destructive fires raged in Southern California. Countless loss after loss has devastated West L.A. this past week as unprecedented wildfires continue to ravage neighborhoods, businesses, and landmarks. In a heartbreaking statement yesterday evening, beloved actor and comedian Billy Crystal confirmed that he and his wife, Janice, are among the many Pacific Palisades residents who have lost their homes to this brutal natural disaster — a home that the Crystals shared with their children and even grandchildren for over four decades.
Speaking to CNN on Wednesday, Crystal mourned the unimaginable loss of innumerable memories and precious belongings. "Words cannot describe the enormity of the devastation we are witnessing and experiencing," he said. "Janice and I lived in our home since 1979. We raised our children and grandchildren here. Every inch of our house was filled with love." Crystal also acknowledged the tireless efforts of firefighters and first responders across southern California, all of whom have been working around...

Sean “Diddy” Combs’ mother, Janice, would often throw wild parties at the future music mogul’s childhood home, where it wasn’t uncommon to walk into a room where adults were having sex, one of Combs’ longtime childhood friends claims in a new documentary.

Los Angeles County has been hit by a string of terrible wildfires that have forced the evacuation of thousands of people and destroyed over 1,100 structures. In this unprecedented crisis that has affected both wealthy areas and historic districts, at least five people have lost their lives.
Some of the worst damage has been seen in the Pacific Palisades area. Billy Crystal, an actor, and his wife Janice lost their 46-year-old home. In a sincere statement, they showed their sadness by saying, “Words cannot describe the enormity of the destruction we are seeing and feeling.” Our house was filled with love all over.
The fires started on Tuesday and have grown into six different ones across the county since then. On Wednesday night, a new fire broke out in Runyon Canyon in the Hollywood Hills; evacuation orders were issued immediately. Unlike most wildfires in California, these fires generally happen in rural areas near cities.

The Sopranos is highly regarded as the show that changed cable television. It changed the formula of shows by expanding characters and writing unique storylines wrapped around a mafia family. Tony Soprano led the Dimeo crime family but struggled with the existentialism of life while being the boss of a major crime organization.
As great as The Sopranos is, it wasn't perfect. Numerous plot holes, abandoned character arcs, and appearances went unexplained. Some things seemed to be added to a season of The Sopranos just to expand it. While The Sopranos is nearly flawless, it is packed with a handful of details that just don't make sense with the rest of the show's story.

Since Ariela Weinbergs marriage with Biniyam Shibre from 90 Day Fianc seemingly ended, her life looks very different. The couple joined the franchise in The Other Way season 2, where she moved to Ethiopia after getting pregnant. Biniyam admitted that before he met Ariela, he was married to another American woman who gave birth to his first child and left him because he was a cheater. He wanted their relationship to be different, but doubt slowly began to creep into Arielas mind. Nonetheless, they stayed together and eventually moved to the States in 90 Day Fianc season 9.
While they achieved their goal of finally living in the United States, Ariela and Biniyams road to their wedding day was rocky. They often argued about Biniyam not being around to help his wife and their son, Avi. The couple married and moved from New Jersey to Las Vegas, Nevada, where he began chasing his dream of becoming a Mma fighter.

Ariela Weinberg continues to prioritize being a loving mother to Aviel Shibre.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is one of the best action-adventure games released in recent times. Despite the heavy abundance of some huge titles in 2023, like Baldur’s Gate 3, Diablo 4, and Starfield, this game amassed a huge player base.
After this grand success, a Dlc release was quite evident. Sometime after the release of this game, there were some serious leaks about a potential Dlc that surfaced as well. But as things stand, we likely are not going to see any expansions for the game anytime soon.
No Plans for Any Dlc of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

MGM+’s Hotel Cocaine has a rather disappointing ending. I say so because it doesn’t quite end but only begins a new chapter for Roman Compte, and personally, I’m not really interested. Hotel Cocaine’s had more misses than hits, and that’s all fine, but it’s especially because the drug-bust world simply has so many fantastic narratives that this one just doesn’t come close, despite telling it with a different approach. The show focuses on Roman Compte, Cuban drug dealer Nestor Cabal’s brother, but it’s also titled “Hotel Cocaine,” which comes from Miami’s hottest hotel at the time, “The Mutiny.” The show doesn’t really give us much about the hotel as such and is your typical cocaine show from the point of view of those involved rather than as a police procedural. In the final episode, we get a voiceover from...

Friends is a beloved sitcom that has carved a place in the hearts of a whole generation of millennials, and why wouldn’t it? It’s a treasure trove of comedy, wholesomeness, and spot-on punchlines that are guaranteed to put you out of even the worst Monday blues.
Friends | NBC
Each character was bestowed with their own trademark, of sorts. Monica was the clean freak, Joey’s flirty “How you doin” is still a classic pickup, and Rachel was the spoiled but brave friend. Then there’s Ross, the clumsy nerd, and Chandler Bing, the funnyman.
But you know who else was a good character (and you realize this especially when you’re on your umpteenth rerun of the show)? Janice Hosenstein. Yup, her.
The (Seemingly) Most Irritating Friends Character
A drama queen whose scream would put even a banshee to shame, Janice is the quintessential ex who everyone hates but is forced to tolerate.

“We like crime shows, at least some of us do,” writer and producer Chris Brancato told IndieWire. “We like gangster shows. We like watching people do the things that we would never do ourselves. And yet, they’ve all been done a million times.”
His own oeuvre seems to support that — but only at first glance. The creator of “Narcos,” “Godfather of Harlem,” and now MGM+’s “Hotel Cocaine” would seem to have found a very buzzy (buzzed?) niche for himself as the prestige crime saga guy. But there’s more going on than just blow.
With “Narcos,” Brancato insisted to Netflix that the actors speak in Spanish, just as the real-life characters did. And “Godfather of Harlem” opened itself up to him once he discovered that Malcolm X was friends with crime boss Bumpy Johnson. At the end of episode 5 of Hotel Cocaine, Valeria learned what her father and uncle actually did for a living. She had been in the van when Roman was meant to shoot Yolanda dead; however, there was a big mess since Valeria stepped out of the van and distracted Yolanda, leaving her completely shocked. Fortunately, Nestor was able to keep her safe from the shooting, but Yolanda got away as well. Episode 6 further explains the Colombian agenda, and we see Nestor interact with Henao directly. Hotel Cocaine episode 6 begins with Valeria’s bout of anger at her father. On the other hand, Roman feels disturbed by the situation and worries for his daughter.
Spoiler Alert
What does Henao tell Nestor?
In Hotel Cocaine episode 6, Nestor decides to start the war for real by showing Yolanda’s men how strong the Cubans’ hold in Miami is. On the other hand, Yolanda welcomes Henao to Miami.

MGM+’s Hotel Cocaine has now crossed over the midpoint, and finally, there’s some progress in the show. In this episode, we also see the mention of Escobar and the Cali Cartel as direct rivals of the Colombians who want to take over Miami. We knew war was just around the corner, and in episode 5, we get a glimpse of it, but not exactly in the way we expected. Episode 5 of Hotel Cocaine begins with Roman and his family now living in Nestor’s house. While Marisol isn’t really thrilled about this situation, Valeria is excited to have a room of her own with a TV in it. This whole situation is going to get really messy, really quick, though.

Hotel Cocaine premieres tonight at 9/8c on MGM+.
The series tosses us back to the glitz, glamour, and high-profile crime of Miami in 1978.
It highlights the Latino influence on our culture and our values, but not in the way that you might think.
For this series, creator and executive producer Chris Brancato and executive producer and director Guillermo Navarro use the background we know so well to highlight a sense of family and commitment that sours through the community.
We talked with them and the cast to get a thorough understanding of the series, which we have seen almost in its entirety.

Hotel Cocaine follows Danny Pino as Roman Compte, the manager of The Mutiny Club, nestled inside The Mutiny Hotel. Roman has worked diligently within the framework of drug traffickers and celebrities, staying steadfastly outside of his brother’s business.

Janice's iconic appearances lead to hilarious moments and running gags throughout Friends. Phoebe's quirky original songs, like "Smelly Cat," provide heartwarming and whimsical moments. If you’re remotely familiar with Netflix’s Griselda, then you may have heard of The Mutiny Hotel, or as MGM+ likes to call it, Hotel Cocaine. Set to disappoint from the start, the show tells the story of a man named Roman Compte, the general manager of the hotel at the time, the same old return to the crime world, trying to balance family and work and being a good person all along. Wow, how exciting! Pfft. There’s a scene in this first episode when a man’s dying and someone he is dear to tries to reflect on the urgency of the situation, but it looks like a child asking for a toy. Certainly, there’s an interest in the Miami drug world from back in the day, but churning out mediocre content is not the way to satisfy this interest. Anyway, before I turn this into...

Lulu Wang remembers Nicole Kidman spiraling down a psychological rabbit hole in Jonathan Glazer’s 2004 dream-like masterpiece Birth where a woman believes that a 10-year-old boy is the reincarnation of her dead husband. “That’s my favorite,” Wang declares, much to Kidman’s delight — and surprise. During the making of Prime Video’s Expats drama series, based on Janice Y.K. Lee’s second novel, The Expatriates published in early 2016, they both discovered that they had the same ‘get up and do it’ sensibility. As Kidman put it: “You’ve got to roll up your sleeves and do it.” Followed by a cry of “Don’t just sit there, let’s do it, let’s do it.” Wang says it’s “super rare” to meet someone like Kidman. “It feels pretty rare because there are a lot of people who talk about meeting more female directors. But I think that the evidence is in the resume.
