A second superjam at the “Back to the Beginning” final Black Sabbath concert in Birmingham on Saturday (July 5th) featured an all-star roster of musicians, including Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler, Sammy Hagar, Smashing Pumpkins’ Billy Corgan, Ghost’s Papa V Perpetua, and more.
Corgan joined Tom Morello for covers of Judas Priest’s “Breaking the Law” and Black Sabbath’s “Snowblind.” Hagar sang Ozzy’s “Flying High Again,” while Ghost’s Papa performed Ozzy’s “Bark at the Moon. Tyler was joined by The Rolling Stones’ Ronnie Wood for “Train Kept a Rollin,” and stayed onstage for a medley of “Walk This Way” and Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love.” Tyler’s appearance was especially notable as the Aerosmith frontman has been largely sidelined from performing since suffering a vocal injury in late 2023.

Alice in Chains Play “Man in the Box,” “Would?” and “Fairies Wear Boots” at Final Black Sabbath Show
Alice in Chains played a mini-set at the “Back to the Beginning” final Black Sabbath concert, delivering two of their own classics and a cover of Sabbath’s “Fairies Wear Boots.”
Jerry Cantrell and company performed “Man in the Box” and “Would?” before launching into “Fairies Wear Boots” from Sabbath’s iconic 1970 album Paranoid. It marked the band’s first performance since a medical emergency suffered by drummer Sean Kinney forced the band to cancel a planned spring US tour. Kinney was back behind the kit for the Sabbath gig.
Alice in Chains’ set came after sets from Mastodon, Rival Sons, Anthrax, Halestorm, and Lamb of God, as well as an all-star jam led by Disturbed’s David Draiman and Halestorm’s Lzzy Hale. You can find our full coverage here.

It’s barely Tuesday morning, you’re finishing your first coffee of the day, shrugging and sighing at the headlines, and here comes Lzzy Hale to bum you out. The message of Halestorm’s latest single, a moody power ballad titled “Darkness Always Wins,” essentially reminds you that evil never dies. The chorus starts off positively enough — “We’re all fighters, holding up our lighters/Chasing off the monsters, drowning in our sins” — but then Hale hits you with the ugly truth: “With every last breath, try to stop the sunset/Running with the shadows,...

Halestorm have unleashed a new song titled “Darkness Always Wins.” The single offers the first taste of the band’s as-yet-untitled new album, set for release later this year.
“Darkness Always Wins” features Lzzy Hale’s powerhouse vocals on full display, with the song reminiscent of an ’80s power ballad. In fact, there are lyrical nods to the era (intentional or not), with such lines as “running with the shadows” (Pat Benatar) and “fading into black” (Metallica).

Around the 2:30 mark, things get heavier, as Joe Hottinger’s guitar kicks in, followed by a primal scream from Lzzy shortly thereafter.
“‘Darkness Always Wins’ is not a song of hope, nor is it a song of despair,” stated Lzzy of the single. “It is reality. History repeating. Evil prevails and the good depart first. But we are not doomed as long as we persist and keep our fires burning.

Brooks & Dunn haven’t released an album of new material since 2007’s Cowboy Town, but when you have a catalog as impressive as theirs, it can be okay to coast on past glories. Especially when many of today’s hottest artists — Lainey Wilson, Morgan Wallen, Jelly Roll — are willing to sing the old hits. That’s the premise of Reboot II, a sequel to 2019’s Reboot, which assembles 18 Nashville stars to put their own spin on songs like “Neon Moon,” “Believe,” and “Hillbilly Deluxe,” with an assist from B&d themselves.

“I started listening Skid Row when I was a teenager growing up on the east coast in central Pennsylvania,” Hale wrote on social media in March. “They were one of the Only bands at that...

Sebastian Bach is confident that a reunion with his former band Skid Row will happen if they can sort out a lingering miscommunication.

“I found out something at the very last Kiss show that I did not know before the very last Kiss show. And it’s a major piece of miscommunication,” Sebastian told Eddie Trunk on the latter’s SiriusXM program [as transcribed by Blabbermouth]. “And I need to communicate with those guys because there’s been something that happened that is not accurate. I can’t tell you what it is, but the whole narrative of they don’t like me and I’m too crazy is complete bullshit. It’s not true.

Sebastian Bach has opened up about a potential reunion with his former band Skid Row — a hot topic considering the group is currently on the hunt for a new singer.
In a new interview with Metal Hammer, Baz was asked about the possibility of a Skid Row reunion. It’s worth noting that the interview appears to have been conducted just prior to Swedish singer Erik Grönwall announcing his exit from Skid Row last week.

“For me, doing three albums with Skid Row, I was just getting started,” Bach said of his original run in the group. “I didn’t think it would be over and done with so quick.”

Days after booking her dream gig as “acting front person” of Skid Row, Lzzy Hale penned a statement to fans about why the job and the glam metal band means so much to her.

Nearly 30 years have passed since Skid Row unceremoniously gave Sebastian Bach the ol’ rattlesnake shake, replacing him with a revolving door of unremarkable frontmen. Now the door has finally opened to a singer who could inject some wild youthfulness into the band: Halestorm’s Lzzy Hale. The catch is, the vocalist, known for her powerful voice and onstage attitude, will front the band for four dates only.
Skid Row and Hale announced the news jointly on Instagram on Wednesday. Hale will be filling in for those dates, since the group...

Swedish singer Erik Grönwall has stepped away from Skid Row, primarily for health-related reasons. As a temporary replacement, Halestorm leader Lzzy Hale is set to fill in on the band’s upcoming shows.
The split between Grönwall and Skid Row is an amicable one, with the former citing the rigors of touring with a compromised immune system in a statement on the band’s social media:
“I got the opportunity to join this incredible band six months after my treatment against leukemia. And one month after that, I was on a world tour with Skid f**** Row. Wow! It was a dream come true. However, it proved challenging touring the world with an impaired immune system, which is a result of my bone marrow transplant.

Purveyors of their own distinctive, genre-blurring sound “Thrash Grass”, The Native Howl has released their gritty new single and official music video for “Mercy” featuring Lzzy Hale of Halestorm (via Sumerian Records). With foreboding, foot-stomping rhythm, and the band’s raw intensity paired with Lzzy’s inimitable vocals, “Mercy” is bound to rattle listeners down to the bone. When asked about today’s release, the band shared:
“‘Mercy’ was written as our original Thrash Grass anthem, and to have our vocal hero Lzzy Hale singing on it is nothing short of a dream come true!
‘Mercy’ subtly tells the story of infamous Boston gangster Whitey Bulger, and the dichotomy of dark and light between him and his disgraced politician brother William. While pulling from additional themes of organized religion and corruption, the music bed’s growth in intensity throughout attempts to paint the process of all evil and wrong-doing slowly being brought to light.

Halestorm frontwoman and Gibson Brands ambassador Lzzy Hale is back with another signature model guitar: the Kramer Lzzy Hale Voyager. She is the first female artist to have a signature Kramer guitar.
The axe features a pointy version of Kramer Voyager body silhouette and is finished in a glammed-out Black Diamond Holographic Sparkle finish. Of Hale’s numerous Gibson signature models, this one is arguably the most visually fetching so far.
The guitar touts a single-bridge position Kramer 85-t humbucker pickup, and appointments include a single volume control along with a Floyd Rose 1000 Series tremolo and R2 Locking Nut for tuning stability. The three-piece maple neck has an ebony fretboard with lightning bolt inlays, a satin finish for speed, and a Slim “C” profile for comfort.

Recently, we had the amazing opportunity to catch up with rockers Halestorm at New York Comic Con 2023. The band made an appearance at Nycc in support of their new graphic novel “Hyde Manor” available now from Z2 Comics.
Celebrating the 10th anniversary of the 2012 EP Hello, It’s Mz Hyde and its ensuing LP, The Strange Case Of…, the Hyde Manor graphic novel depicts the members of Halestorm encountering sinister doppelgangers of themselves. Within the decrepit halls of Hyde Manor, mirror reflections independently talk back, and photographs transform to reveal sordid prophecies, leading the band to slowly succumb to madness while recording a new album. The tale creaks and twists with doom-filled revelations, perfectly tied to Halestorm’s scorching discography. Twins Brittany and Brianna Winner (the Twin Soul series), artist Sara Scalia, cover artist Alison Sampson, and colorist DJ Alonso weave a tale of the celebrated group as they seek...

Lzzy Hale made a cameo during Gwar’s set at the Palladium Times Square in New York City on October 13th for a performance of their collaborative track “The Cutter.”
The Halestorm frontwoman reprised her role as her Scumdog alter-ego Clitaurus Maximus from Gwar’s 2022 album The New Dark Ages, on which she sang a duet with Blöthar the Berserker on “The Cutter.”
For the NYC rendition of the tune, Hale came out in the appropriate garb, donning battle armor and wielding a giant sword. From there, she stole the show as Clitaurus Maximus, singing centerstage while hoisting her blade, power-metal style.
Gwar took to social media to sing her praises following the show.
“We are not easily impressed,” the band wrote on Facebook, “but the mighty Lzzy Hale aka Clitaurus Maximus making an appearance for ‘The Cutter’ at our show in NYC was almost as satisfying as making your...

Halestorm have teamed up with country singer Ashley McBryde for a new version of the band’s “Terrible Things.”
The Back from the Dead ballad is well-suited for a duet, and the mainly acoustic instrumentation sits well against McBryde’s voice. Overall the new rendition is true to the original, though the soaring vocal arrangement takes the song to new emotional heights.
“’Terrible Things’ is a song about hope and forgiveness of one’s self, and this world we live in,” said Halestorm’s Lzzy Hale via a press release. “To elevate the heart of this track we asked the baddest woman in Nashville, Ashley McBryde, to lend her incredible voice. Nita Strauss, who recently rejoined Alice Cooper’s band as lead guitarist, has announced a new solo album. The set, titled The Call of the Void, will drop on July 7th via Sumerian Records.
Strauss explained of the album’s new title in a press release, “Have you ever been at the top of a high building and had the fleeting thought, ‘I could jump right now?’ This feeling is sometimes called ‘The Call of the Void,’ also known as ‘high place phenomenon.’ It’s not a suicidal impulse, rather the exact opposite — a subconscious decision to live your life, to step back from the ledge, and take control. Earlier this year, Lzzy Hale and Daughtry unveiled a studio cover of Journey’s “Separate Ways (Worlds Apart).” They recently reprised that collaboration at the Royal Albert Hall in London, where Hale joined the band onstage for a performance of the Journey classic.
Fan footage has now surfaced of Hale’s cameo, which came at the beginning of Daughtry’s encore. The crowd lights up when they hear the song’s iconic synth intro — cueing Chris Daughtry and Hale to take the stage in unison.
Daughtry had been performing the song as part of their encore prior to the London show, but this was the first time Lzzy and Chris duetted the song live together. The duo is spot-on vocally, mirroring the strong chemistry heard on the studio recording. The band is also airtight as it delivers a heavier rendition of the original tune.

When Lzzy Hale and her band, Halestorm, were first nominated for a Grammy in 2013 — earning a Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance nod for their song “Love Bites” — the power singer found herself the only woman in a category full of dudes. Halestorm have recorded a predictably raucous rendition of the Who’s 1974 hit, “Long Live Rock,” to accompany a documentary also titled Long Live Rock.
The song, with its big riffs and anthemic vocals, is a perfect fit for the group. Singer-guitarist Lzzy Hale exalts rock & roll with the same deference as Roger Daltrey, even on Pete Townshend-penned lines like, “We were the first band to vomit at the bar.” The accompanying video shows Hale and her bandmates recording the song, along with footage from the documentary, which comes out next month.

Lamb of God’s upcoming deluxe edition of their self-titled album will feature a typically punishing bonus track, “Ghost Shaped People.” Frontman Randy Blythe asks, “What will you believe? Who will you betray? What’s the cost of victory?” in the song’s chorus, which is sandwiched between the band’s signature cataclysm of chugging guitars and anvil-smashing drums.
Although it’s not entirely clear who has sparked Blythe’s ire, it’s clear that they’re the sort of weak-spined infidel who probably wouldn’t appreciate Lamb of God anyway,...

Two of the hard-rock and metal’s loudest musicians, Halestorm frontwoman Lzzy Hale and Lamb of God guitarist Mark Morton, have joined forces for what may be the gentlest song they’ve ever recorded, an acoustic cover of the Black Crowes’ “She Talks to Angels.” The pair previously cut a version of the song for Morton’s solo EP, Ether, which came out over the summer, but they decided to reprise it for Hale’s Raise Your Horns YouTube show.

“No Cover,” a new competitive series backed by production entity Hit Parader, is promising to deliver the “next great unsigned original artist.” To aid in the search, the televised show has recruited celebrity judges Alice Cooper, Bishop Briggs, Gavin Rossdale, Lzzy Hale and Tosin Abasi.
Differentiating itself from shows like ABC’s “American Idol” and NBC’s “The Voice” — which mainly focuses on a singer’s interpretations of preexisting hit songs — “No Cover” judges artists and bands performing entirely original music. Season one will be shot inside West Hollywood’s legendary Troubadour and on location at the Sunset Marquis Hotel.
The winning artist or band will secure a six-figure recording contract with Sumerian Records, booking agency representation from UTA, management from the Shelter Music Group, festival slots via Danny Wimmer Presents, studio time at Nightbird Recording Studios (housed inside the Sunset Marquis), new gear from Gibson, branding endorsements, licensing opportunities and more.
