Brian McGreevy is the author who wrote the novel Hemlock Grove, then worked with Lee Shipman and Eli Roth to develop the concept into a television series that ran on the Netflix streaming service for three seasons and a total of 33 episodes. McGreevy went on to co-create the Western TV series The Son, which ran on AMC for two seasons, a total of 20 episodes. Now, Deadline reports that McGreevy is set to make his feature directorial debut with a psychological thriller called The Technique – and he has assembled a solid cast to bring the story’s characters to life. That cast includes Kelsey Asbille (Yellowstone), Emma Roberts (American Horror Story), Nicholas Alexander Chavez (Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story), Ben Platt (Theater Camp), Laura Harrier (Spider-Man: Homecoming), and Noomi Rapace (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo).

“Hemlock Grove” creator Brian McGreevy will make his feature directorial debut on the psychological thriller The Technique, Deadline reports.

Kelsey Asbille (Don’t Move), Nicholas Alexander Chavez (“Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story”), Ben Platt (Pitch Perfect), Emma Roberts (Scream 4), Laura Harrier (Spider-Man: Homecoming), and Noomi Rapace (Prometheus) are set to star.

McGreevy also wrote the script, although plot details are being kept under wraps.

Miles Skinner of Hypothesis and Andrea Bucko of Raised By Wolves are producing alongside Jordan Drake, David Duque-Estrada, Chadd Harbold, and Russ Posternak.

Updated, 9:37 Am: Oscar nominee and Emmy winner Alfre Woodard has joined the cast of Viral, a thriller from Blair Underwood, who stars along with Sarah Silverman. Woodard will play Dr. Johnetta, a psychiatrist specializing in deep trauma.

Previously, May 4: Comic and two-time Emmy winner Sarah Silverman has been cast as a lead opposite Blair Underwood in Viral, an indie drama from York Films.

The film centers on Underwood’s Andrew, who falls into paranoia after his wife goes missing. The only way out of the self-destructive cycle seems to be through his new girlfriend Emilia (Silverman), a victims advocate and self-help blogger he meets in group therapy, who is dealing with her own demons from her past. Four-time Emmy winner and Oscar nominee Alfre Woodard is the latest to join the cast of Blair Underwood’s upcoming psychological thriller “Viral.”

Production on the project — directed, produced by and starring Underwood — is currently underway in New York, after filming was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The casting news also marks a reunion for Woodward and Underwood, who previously teamed up for the Netflix drama “Juanita,” Showtime’s “The Wishing Tree” and the stage show “Love Letters.” The pair of entertainers have had an equally long history offscreen. In 1989, Woodard and Underwood co-founded Artists for a New South Africa (Ansa), an organization to support the mission to end apartheid, alongside fellow actors like Danny Glover, Mary Steenburgen and Cch Pounder.

Woodard is set to play Dr. Johnetta, a psychiatrist specializing in deep trauma, in the thriller, which follows Underwood’s character Andrew as he falls into paranoia after his wife Jules goes missing.

Mason co-stars opposite Emmy winners Underwood and Sarah Silverman in the independent film, playing a woman named Jules, whose disappearance kicks off the plot. Screen Media announced today the acquisition of all U.S. rights to the feature film The Outpost, based on The New York Times best-selling non-fiction book, The Outpost: An Untold Story of American Valor from CNN’s Jake Tapper.

In this military thriller, a tiny unit of U.S. soldiers, alone at the remote Combat Outpost Keating, located deep in the valley of three mountains in Afghanistan, battles to defend against an overwhelming force of Taliban fighters in a coordinated attack. The Battle of Kamdesh, as it was known, was the bloodiest American engagement of the Afghan War in 2009 and Bravo Troop 3-61 Cav became one of the most decorated units of the 19-year conflict.

The film was set to have its world premiere at the South by Southwest Festival before the event was cancelled. Screen Media will release the film around the July 4th weekend.

Screen Media has acquired the U.S. distribution rights to “The Outpost,” a war film starring Scott Eastwood, Caleb Landry Jones and Orlando Bloom that is based on Jake Tapper’s nonfiction book, the distributor announced Monday.

Rod Lurie directed the movie that was meant to make its debut as part of the SXSW Film Festival. Screen Media will now release “The Outpost” around the July 4th weekend.

Tapper’s book “The Outpost: An Untold Story of American Valor” details one of the worst of the war in Afghanistan that took place in 2009 at Combat Outpost Keating, just 14 miles from the Pakistani border. There, 53 American soldiers as part of Bravo Troop 3-61 Cav squared off against over 400 Taliban fighters in what was known as The Battle of Kamdesh. Eight U.S. soldiers died, and about two dozen more were wounded, according to The Washington Post.

‘The Outpost’: York Films Signs On To Afghan War Pic Based On Jake Tapper Book
New York-based York Films has come aboard to co-produce Millennium Media’s The Outpost, the Rod Lurie-directed Afghanistan war thriller based on the 2013 bestseller by CNN’s Jake Tapper. Scott Eastwood, Caleb Landry Jones, Milo Gibson and Orlando Bloom are already set to star in the pic, which is now set to begin shooting next month in Bulgaria.

Adapted by The Fighter scribes Paul Tamasy and Eric Johnson, the movie chronicles the true story of a small team of U.S. soldiers who battled a force of more than 400 Taliban fighters in northeastern Afghanistan in 2009 during Operation Enduring Freedom.
