The future of "Scream" is in a bizarre place right now. The upcoming seventh installment of the popular slasher franchise is weirdly moving forward without Melissa Barerra, the lead final girl of the previous two films, in addition to bringing just about every series alumni back into the fold (even the dead characters). The last time this franchise was in such an unpredictable state was in the early 2010s after the release of "Scream 4."
In 2011, Wes Craven returned to helm the fourth installment, which still remains one of its best. Unfortunately, "Scream 4" would also be the last feature the horror maestro directed before his death in 2015. We all know now that "Scream" would return over a decade later with the Radio Silence-directed duology, but in the interim, fans pondered whether Craven was even interested in making another movie. As rumors and speculation kept circulating, the only source of...

Exclusive: Adam Saunders and his Footprint Features have brought on Kyle Fong as the company’s Director of Development.
Fong joins from Blue Marble Pictures, where he served as Director, Content Development & Strategy, working on the Peabody Award-winning Apple TV+ drama series Pachinko, based on the international bestselling novel from Min Jin Lee. His hiring is part of Footprint’s new Studio Development Fund, which will expand the company’s ability to acquire and develop top-tier content for studios and streamers. Though Footprint will continue to produce and develop dynamic projects in the indie space, the new initiative will provide the company greater resources to expand beyond that sphere and prioritize developing studio content.

“Yellowjackets” and “Scream” star Jasmin Savoy Brown has a new podcast, titled “Today in Gay.”
Described as a “short, joyful daily news podcast by and for the queer community,” Brown came up with the show three years ago when she realized there’s no queer equivalent to NPR’s “Up First” or the NY Times’ “The Headlines.”
Though Brown serves as creator, the podcast will be hosted by Nay Bever, “Our Flag Means Death” star Vico Ortiz and Bex-Taylor Klaus. Bever and Brown will produce the podcast alongside editor and theme song-composer Lauren Klein, with research by Hannah Nobrega and illustrations by Jax Ko. All members of the “Today in Gay” production team identify as members of the queer community.
“Today in Gay” is fully-funded by Brown, who says everyone will be paid the same — from host to graphic designer, everyone working on the podcast will make $50/hr. The show will launch everywhere on Jan.

Netflix has shared disappointing news for fans of the Voltron franchise. The streaming service's critically acclaimed Voltron: Legendary Defender reboot will be removed from the platform next week.
DreamWorks and Netflix's Voltron: Legendary Defender premiered in 2016 and released 78 episodes over 8 seasons. The final season of the animated series aired on Netflix in December 2018. Earlier this year, it was reported that the Voltron reboot series would be departing from Netflix, with the official Voltron Instagram account responding and saying, "Discussions are ongoing. When we know, you'll know." It appears as if negotiations to keep the show on Netflix fell through, and it remains uncertain where (or even if) fans will have a way to legally stream the series in the future. Voltron: Legendary Defender will be removed from Netflix on Dec. 6.

With access to more creative outlets for LGBTQ+ filmmakers comes great progressive storytelling. At least, this is the case for writer-director Beck Williams, who aims to push the needle in Hollywood for a more nuanced representation of the trans experience onscreen. Recently premiering at the Oscar-qualifying film festival Out on Film in Atlanta, Pace, an LGBTQ+ boxing drama written and directed by Williams, explores an intimate look at navigating a difficult choice about one’s identity and sexuality. The short follows Remy (Williams), a transmasculine boxer struggling with dysphoria who hides his upcoming top surgery from his concerned partner (Kelly Lou Dennis), and Joey (Bex Taylor-Klaus), a trepidatious boxer, who returns to the gym post-transition, who fears judgment by his former boxing community. When Remy invites Joey to train together, they form a friendly bond while facing their unique challenges.

Scream: The TV Series' abrupt reboot has been addressed by one of the original stars. The show, which premiered on MTV in 2015, did not feature major story or character overlaps with the movies, featuring a new killer with a different mask and a fresh ensemble cast that included Willa Fitzgerald, Bex Taylor-Klaus, Carlson Young, and John Karna during the first two seasons. The delayed season 3, which brought back the Ghostface mask and Roger L. Jackson as the iconic killer's voice, featured an entirely different setting and cast of characters, but Scream season 4 never came to fruition.
Willa Fitzgerald recently sat down for an interview with Perri Nemiroff on Collider Ladies Night while promoting her new serial killer thriller Strange Darling. When asked about the fact that she and her co-stars did not return for Scream season 3, which premiered on VH1 in 2019, she revealed that "I kind of still dont know what happened.

Trim Season
Production designer Ariel Vida's sophomore directorial feature, Trim Season, follows a group of young people who isolate themselves on a secluded farm in Northern California, making easy money trimming marijuana. When Emma (Bethlehem Million), Julia (Alex Essoe), and Dusty (Bex Taylor-Klaus), begin to suspect the farm and its matriarch Mona (Jane Badler) are shrouded in dark practices, they realise they might not escape with their lives.
When I connected with Essoe virtually, she was full of enthusiastic energy. The Canadian actress has long been a personal favourite genre performer after first seeing her in Kevin Kölsch and Dennis Widmyer’s Starry Eyes. The visceral character she played in Marcus Dunstan's The Neighbour, opposite Josh Stewart, remains one of her most seductive and captivating performances. Together they show her emotional range, moving effortlessly between vulnerability and a cold, distant and rawer presence, that she has built upon throughout her career,...

Casting Link for the live-action Legend of Zelda movie will be challenging due to his lack of dialogue and the diverse interpretations by players. Actors like Hero Fiennes Tiffin, Aidan Kennedy, and Joel Courtney could bring different aspects of Link's personality to the role. Actors such as Justice Smith, Bex Taylor-Klaus, Julian Crouser, Aoi Takeya, Dallas Dupree Young, Michael Provost, Griffin Gluck, Brigette Lundy-Paine, and Zackary Arthur have the potential to portray different versions of Link based on their looks, skills, and previous roles.
A live-action Legend of Zelda movie has finally been confirmed, which means a talented actor will need to be chosen to play Link. The Hero of Time will be an extremely challenging character to cast since he has no dialogue in the many Zelda video games. This makes his personality difficult to define, with every player projecting their own ideas onto Link from game to game.

In the first fifteen minutes of Hell Fest, before entering the Halloween carnival (of the same name), an overly excited Taylor- played by Bex Taylor Klaus – tells her friends about a real life murder that happened at a similar event nearby, the year before.
“What can I say, some people are just evil – they’re monsters, and to them, every single day is Halloween… and they dress up, so we don’t know,” Taylor states.
In response to the protagonist Natalie asking, “Know what?” she explains, “ That they walk among us.”
This quick minute of dialogue is easily overlooked, and yet it’s vital to understanding Hell Fest as a whole. It lays out the theme of the next hour and a half, and serves as a foreshadowing of the evil in plain sight. As well as offering brief exposition about our unknown villain.

Cannabis is known to have many medical benefits and can be helpful with conditions like cancer, chronic pain, and Ptsd. There is also evidence of marijuana being connected to spirituality and being used for ritualistic purposes throughout history. Trim Season is a fantastical and thought-provoking commentary on gender and the magical benefits of cannabis.

At the time, Scream 4 seemed like a pretty definitive end for the franchise, providing Sidney Prescott with a second round of closure and riffing on all of the (then) recent trends in horror media. Of course, no matter how satisfying they may be, endings are always bittersweet, so fans were understandably bummed that this would be the last we’d ever see of good old Ghostface. That’s why it makes sense that folks were ecstatic when MTV announced that they were producing a televised follow-up to Scream, Wes Craven’s iconic horror franchise.
After all, a small-screen adaptation of a series known for its satirical meta elements and memorable protagonists could absolutely thrive on network television, especially with the TV horror renaissance of the mid-2010s gifting us with plenty of shows to satirize. Exclusive: Maxim Swinton (Halston) has joined the cast of Raymond and Ray, writer-director Rodrigo García’s (Four Good Days) film for Apple Studios.
He joins an ensemble that includes Ewan McGregor, Ethan Hawke, Maribel Verdú and Sophie Okonedo, as previously announced.
The film currently in production in Virginia centers on Raymond (McGregor) and Ray (Hawke), half-brothers who have lived in the shadow of a terrible father. Somehow, they still each have a sense of humor, and his funeral is a chance for them to reinvent themselves. There’s anger, there’s pain, there’s folly, there might be love, and there’s definitely grave-digging.
Oscar winner Alfonso Cuarón is producing with Bonnie Curtis and Julie Lynn of Mockingbird Pictures, with Gabriela Rodriguez and Shea Kammer serving as EPs.
Swinton recently portrayed a younger version of McGregor’s fashion designer Halston in Netflix’s Emmy-winning miniseries of the same name. The...

This summer’s San Diego Comic-Con once again invites fans to sit on their couches and enjoy the pop culture extravaganza from the safety of their homes. There is one difference from last year’s virtual event, however: It will be an abbreviated one, taking place over three days, from Friday, July 23 through Sunday, July 25 — but there are still a bevy of TV show panels on the lineup, which will be streaming for free via YouTube.

Nothing beats a live Comic-Con with the scream of the audience, the thunder of Hall H, and the social media wattage that shines out of San Diego.
I’ll never forget the first time that Marvel walked the cast of Guardians of the Galaxy from the Hilton over to the Convention Center. The fans went so crazy, you’d think some of The Beatles came back and there was an immediate reunion. Instead, no thanks to the impact of Covid-19, we have the second year of a virtual San Diego Comic-Con.
Paramount’s Snake Eyes: G.I. ABC is making some decisions about its remaining pilots, and it's bad news for three promising ideas.
Kevin Costner-executive produced National Parks Investigation, Triage, and Dark Horse are no longer moving ahead at the network.
The good news is that National Parks Investigation and Dark Horse are both being shopped to other outlets, but the jury is out on whether Triage will be shopped.
National Parks follows the elite special agents of the Investigative Services Branch who are tasked with solving the most complex and heinous crimes committed within the diverse and majestic National Parks of the Isb’s Pacific West region.
The cast included Billy Cambell, Angel Parker, Gerardo Celasco, Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut, Blu Hunt, Tiffany Dupont, and Guillermo Diaz.
Something tells us this one would serve as a good companion to Yellowstone over on Paramount.

A great cast can paper over a lot of issues. Watching talented actors and actresses at work is part of the main charm of the gift that is cinema. However, even the best thespians can’t make up for a script that just doesn’t give them much to do. Likewise with bland direction. Despite an A-list cast, the remake Blackbird is thoroughly mediocre, wasting the performers at its center. Aside from occasional sparks of livelihood, credited to the ladies and gentlemen on the screen, there’s not a whole lot to grab on to. The film just sort of lays there, never coming to life in the way one would hope for. The movie is a family drama, remade from the 2014 Danish effort Silent Heart. Lily (Susan Sarandon) and Paul (Sam Neill) clearly have a loving relationship, though one taking on a new dimension due to Lily’s terminal illness.

As box offices start to test the waters, Roger Michell’s family drama Blackbird starring Susan Sarandon is set to open in theaters and on demand starting today.
Known for My Cousin Rachel and Notting Hill, Michell directs a script by Christian Torpe, who wrote the 2014 Danish film, Silent Heart on which the family drama is based. In it, Sarandon plays Lily who, along with Paul (Sam Neil) invite their loved ones to their beach house for one final gathering after Lily decides to end her long battle with Als on her own terms. The weekend starts as a loving weekend with holiday tradition but as things unfold, unresolved issues between Lily and her daughters Jennifer (Kate Winslet) and Anna (Mia Wasikowska) come into the forefront. Rainn Wilson, Lindsay Duncan, Bex Taylor-Klaus and Anson Boon join the all-star roster in this ensemble drama.

Roger Michell's Blackbird is a family drama with an impressive cast.
The bottle movie takes place almost entirely in one location, when a married couple receives their children, their spouses, and a family friend for the weekend.
I've missed slice-of-life movies as so many features go for big thrills and lean heavily on style.
Blackbird trims the fat and delivers a beautiful performance from Susan Sarandon as Lily, a woman grappling with end-of-life issues after a long battle with Als.
It's the final family gathering for Lily and her husband, Paul (Sam Neill), and all that they ask is that everyone respect their wishes and get along, making lasting memories and giving Lily the sendoff she desires.
Unfortunately, family gathers always come with a lot of strife, and Lily and Paul's daughters, Jennifer (Kate Winslet) and Anna (Mia Waiskowska) bring with them unresolved issues that threaten to make the weekend difficult.

Boasting one of the more impressive ensembles at TIFF last year, Roger Michell’s latest drama Blackbird stars Susan Sarandon, Kate Winslet, Mia Wasikowska, Sam Neill, Rainn Wilson, Bex Taylor-Klaus, and Lindsay Duncan. Screen Media, a Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment company, today announced the acquisition of all North American rights, as well as select international territories, of Roger Michell’s latest feature film, Blackbird.
