Gangs Of Wasseypur Part 1

Stars: Manjoj Bajpai, Richa Chaddha, Reemma Sen, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Tigmanshu Dhulia | Written by: Akhilesh Jaiswal, Anurag Kashyap, Sachin K. Ladia, Syed Zeeshan Qadri | Directed by: Anurag Kashyap

Anurag Kashyap’s Gangs of Wasseypur, opens with what I assume will lead to the conclusion of part 2, a gang out to kill a rival gang member, completely destroying his house, and they do not stop till they assume everyone inside is dead. This is 2004. Flash back to pre-Independence India, a man is banished from his village and then later killed by the man he works for. These are the two events which lead his son, Sardar Khan (Manoj Bajpai), on his path of vengeance, and to become the most feared man in Wasseypur.

Kashyap’s style has been compared to that of Quentin Tarantino, and while he may not admit to any direct influence or inspiration, it is...

Review: Gangs of Wasseypur
Director: Anurag Kashyap, Writers: Akhilesh Jaiswal, Anurag Kashyap, Sachin K. Ladia, Syed Zeeshan Qadri, Actors: Manoj Bajpai, Jaideep Ahlawat, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Richa Chadda, Reema Sen

After a lengthy introduction of his ancestors through voiceovers and archival videos, the film settles down to tell the story of Sardar Khan and his revenge.

The film is full of gut-wrenching violence, bloodbath and expletives. Despite that,...

This year’s opening night film of the London Indian Film Festival was Anurag Kashyap’s Gangs of Wasseypur, part one of a violent revenge story set in North India. It also screened at Cannes earlier this year, in the Directors Fortnight.

The film opens with what I assume will lead to the conclusion of part 2, a gang out to kill a rival gang member, completely destroying his house, and they do not stop till they assume everyone inside is dead. This is 2004. Flash back to pre-Independence India, a man is banished from his village and then later killed by the man he works for.
