The long-gestating Star Wars movie that's set to bring back Daisy Ridley and focus on Rey rebuilding the Jedi Order has had more than a few snags in the past couple of years. First announced in 2023, the project initially had Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson attached to write it before they were replaced by Steven Knight. However, Knight dropped out in Oct. 2024, and now writer/director George Nolfi has been brought in to pen the screenplay, which could spell good news for Star Wars fans, as he seems to have a firm grasp on the mythology first created by George Lucas.

In a surprise to no one, the Rey film, which disappeared after being pushed back for “The Mandalorian and Grogu,” has hit yet another setback. This time, the new writer, who Lucasfilm and Kathleen Kennedy got to replace the other two writers they fired, has also left the film.

Steven Knight was brought in March 2023 to replace the original writers Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson. Lindelof has said publically that he was asked to leave Star Wars.

This isn’t even the first time this has happened. Kathleen Kennedy has a trail of people who either quit or were fired for “creative differences.”

After persistent rumors, we finally got confirmation that Daisy Ridley is set to return as Rey for a new post-sequel trilogy Star Wars movie during 2023's Star Wars Celebration event.

Ridley will reprise her role as Rey "Skywalker" for director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy's movie, which will be set a whole fifteen years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker. Plot details are still mostly under wraps, but we do know that Rey will be a "powerful Jedi master" running her own training academy when we catch up with her.

The upcoming untitled Star Wars movie will be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and set 15 years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the actor did not explicitly confirm Boyega's return but responded positively to the suggestion of the Star Wars reunion. "Absolutely, of course.
