Age of Apocalypse, the revolutionary '90s X-Men crossover, is reborn this September in X-Men of Apocalypse, a six-part event series from writer Jeph Loeb, one of the architects behind the original event, and Eisner-nominated artist Simone Di Meo.
Today, Marvel Comics has announced that Joe Madureira, another superstar creator who brought Age of Apocalypse to life, will illustrate a variant cover for each issue.
Madureira transformed the look of the X-Books throughout the '90s with his distinct and innovative art style. Now, the highly influential artist returns to the franchise for the first time in decades with glorious depictions of the very characters he defined: the iconic X-Men of the Age of Apocalypse.
"I am beyond excited to be dipping back into this corner of the X-Men universe," Madureira shared. "I was literally a kid when I drew the Astonishing X-Men—it feels like several lifetimes ago, and...

Unfortunately, not every mutant or member of the X-Men develops amazing powers. While every mutation comes with drawbacks, some mutants are just dealt a worse hand than others. Vastly altered appearances, incomplete biologies, or powers of mass destruction, these abilities can segregate and isolate mutants even within their own communities. Even worse off are the mutants whose powers destroy themselves.
Over the thousands of generations that mutants have existed, long before Apocalypse was ever born, mutant powers have mixed and combined, creating wild combinations in the modern day. Some mutations have shifted into uncontrollable conduits for cataclysmic power. Others display incomplete evolutions or incompatible biology, in which case a mutant’s body isn’t able to handle the strain of their mutation. Then there are some whose mutations are “unfavorably” topical, isolating the mutant from general society. The X-Men and Marvel’s mutants have been around for a long time,...

Wayfinder is finally approaching its final launch next week, but it's had a long and arduous journey to reach the form it's taken now as a fantasy Arpg. Developed by Airship Syndicate, the company behind titles like Darksiders Genesis, the game was originally slated to be published by Digital Extremes as a free-to-play online experience. However, after Digital Extreme shuttered its publishing wing, the developer regrouped, leading to a huge overhaul of the design that took Wayfinder from Mmorpg to what it is today.
Wayfinder is now a three-player co-op title with no free-to-play elements, evolving into a premium, one-time-purchase game. Set in the world of Evenor, players can choose between several different characters to take on adventures with as they fight against the Gloom, a dark chaos spreading across the land that the titular Wayfinders have special abilities to combat. As part of the game's character rollout, the company...

One of Marvel's most successful on-panel experiments, by far, is their Ultimate Comics imprint. Originally conceived in the year 2000, the Ultimate Marvel comics - manifesting as Earth-1610, as opposed to the main canon's Earth-616 - existed to allow writers the creative freedom to try new things with classic characters without being constricted by present continuity or having to stick within the status quo of the characters themselves.
The results offered audiences a fresh, different, and even modern alternative to the main Marvel comics. The Ultimate Marvel comics were so beloved that they justified a 2023 revival of sorts, albeit not of the exact 1610 universe (the new universe comprises Earth-6160). Even then, still, the original Ultimate Marvel Universe remains a talking point within the comic book community, specifically all the shocking, unique, and utterly controversial takes on different characters. Here are some more memorable changes to Marvel's finest heroes and villains.

Warhammer 40,000: Dark Millennium Online began its journey in 2007 and was under development until 2012 before being shelved forever. Warhammer 40K would have changed the landscape of Mmorpg games, as they had massive ideas for the game

Warhammer 40K’s release would have harmed other online RPG titles’ success, such as Helldivers 2, by taking away the novelty of the game. Spoilers for "X-Men '97" to follow.
Love is in the air on "X-Men '97" with Rogue and ... Magneto??! Apparently, the two have a history. Now that Magneto has joined the X-Men, old feelings are surfacing.
In episode 2, "Mutant Liberation Begins," the pair share a private chat dancing around their history; Magneto tells Rogue he made a mistake by shutting Charles Xavier out (with a psychic-blocking helmet and all), saying he should've kept people who cared for him close — implicitly including Rogue too. She says she wants to keep their past buried, but at the episode's end, they meet in private again; apparently, Magneto's power can nullify Rogue's deadly touch, so she can experience intimacy with him that she can't with anyone else. A heartbroken Gambit spots Rogue exiting Magneto's office.
The third and most recent episode, "Fire Made Flesh," continued the teasing. Rogue/Magneto apparently haven't admitted the connection to their comrades,...

Deadpool's first appearance as a villain in New Mutants #98 established him as a hardened killer with dark humor quips, but he had a long way to go before becoming the antihero fans know today. The "Deadpool: The Circle Chase" storyline by Fabian Nicieza and Joe Madureira marked Deadpool's transformation from a villain to a legitimate antihero, introducing relationships and showcasing him as better than the villains he fought. Deadpool's official origin story revealed in Deadpool Vol. 3 linked him to Weapon X, establishing that he was experimented on, received powers, and was scarred physically and mentally, shaping his entire character.
Most Marvel fans have a very clear idea of Deadpool in their heads, one which most likely more-or-less lines up with the 2016 depiction of the character in the live-action film Deadpool. Comical, deadly (but in a funny way), and constantly breaking the fourth wall. For the most part, that’s right on the money,...

There aren’t many mutants who can boast that they can defeat Wolverine by effectively rendering his healing factor totally useless, but one extreme ‘90s X-Men member is one of those mutants.
James “Logan” Howlett aka Wolverine was born with a number of mutant abilities including heightened, animalistic senses, retractable claws that extend from his knuckles, and a healing factor–and while the claws may seem like the most useful aspect of his mutation in terms of battle scenarios, it’s his healing factor that stands above the other powers. Not only does it heal practically any injury Wolverine sustains, but it also slows his aging process to the point where, in one reality, Wolverine was still alive more than a century after his time fighting alongside the X-Men–which, itself, was more than a century after he was born. This means that even time itself can’t...

Famed comic book artist Joe Madureira has finally announced a continuation of his hit series Battle Chasers, with issue #10 set to release this June from Image Comics. While the creator is known for the long interim periods between books, the wait period will have been nearly 22 years from issue #9. With a hiatus like that, not even Saga's three-and-a-half year hiatus can hold a candle.
Battle Chasers first released in 1998 from WildStorm Productions, which was still under indie management in the period before it was bought by DC the following year. Centered around a band of quirky magical questers, including Gully, a young girl who has inherited a set of magic gauntlets, a polite and helpful war golem named Calibretto whose very existence is outlawed, and brooding loner Garrison, who desires to be left alone. Being pursued by wizards, werewolves and all manner of magical menaces, this seemingly quaint concept...

It is no secret that Deadpool is in an entire league of his own as far as his character goes, but in one X-Men storyline, there is a character who exhibits all of Deadpool’s quirks while taking his outlandish bits to the next level–making this forgotten mutant hero more like Deadpool than even the original Deadpool himself, Wade Wilson.
Wade Wilson was a mercenary who was diagnosed with terminal cancer, leading him to sign up for experimental treatment that was secretly a Weapon X operation. Unfortunately, when Wade learned the truth, it was too late, and Weapon X had begun the process of turning Wade Wilson into the mutate, Deadpool. After the treatment was complete, Wade found that he was cured of his cancer as his newfound healing factor kept it (along with any other life-threatening injury/disease) at bay. When you create one of the greatest and most innovative games of all time, there are going to be imitators. Plenty of games have copied The Legend of Zelda since the original hit the Famicom Disk System in 1986. A few have arguably even improved on the beloved formula.
Much like the Legend of Zelda games themselves, the best Zelda-like experiences out there come in a variety of flavors. Generally, they’re action RPGs with an overworld, dungeons, and multiple different abilities and equipment you obtain throughout the game. They can be 2D overhead games like the original Zelda, 3D games similar to Ocarina of Time that point players toward the next goal, or more open-ended 3D games like Breath of the Wild. Regardless of which style of Zelda game is your favorite, here are just some of the other games that Legend of Zelda fans need to play.

While it is a well-known fact that Xavier is Magneto’s best frenemy in the history of X-Men comics, it turns out that’s not always necessarily the case as Gambit officially replaced Xavier in that particular role in Magneto’s life.
When both Magneto and Professor X were introduced in X-Men #1 by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, the two were portrayed as bitter enemies with completely different ideologies. Magneto believed that mutants were genetically superior to humans, and because of that, humans would fear mutants and work to exterminate them–so he was determined to launch a preemptive strike before that happened. Professor X, on the other hand, believed humans and mutants could live together in harmony, and the missions carried out by his X-Men perfectly reflected that vision. While their respective beliefs made Xavier and Magneto enemies, they weren’t always. Originally, the two were friends who used...
