NBC announced today that the previously announced Wicked concert special, led by Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, will air on November 6, two weeks ahead of the release of the sequel Wicked: For Good.
The two-hour special event at L.A’s Dolby Theatre will air on NBC and stream next day on Peacock.
Erivo and Grande will be joined by their co-stars and other surprise guests to perform songs from the first movie — “and maybe, just maybe, a little bit from the upcoming film,” the network teased in its release.
Released last November, Wicked became a global phenomenon and grossed more than $750 million at the worldwide box office to become the biggest Broadway musical adaptation of all time. The film went on to become Universal’s biggest PVOD title of all time and Peacock’s biggest Pay 1 streaming launch ever. The film earned 10 Academy Award nominations and two wins.

A new $620 million U.K. studio project backed by Fulwell Entertainment, the company behind “The Late Late Show With James Corden,” has lost a major investor.
According to the BBC, Cain International has pulled out of the Crown Works Studios project in the north of England. The BBC said in its report that the company declined to give a reason.
Announced last year, the studios are set to be built on the banks of Sunderland’s River Wear with the hope it will create thousands of jobs in the region. At the time of announcement, backers said it would bring about 8,000 jobs and cover 1.6 million square feet.
Local reports claim the U.K. government has put forward £25 million ($34 million) towards the project, with the local authority committing £120 million ($164 million). But that still leaves a large gap to fill.

The likes of Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel, Seth Meyers, Sean Evans and John Mulaney will be battling it out for one of only three Emmy nominations.
With Emmy voting opening, it has emerged that there were only 13 submissions in the Outstanding Talk Series category, meaning that the category has lost one nomination from last year and two from the year before.

If you’ve enjoyed a live TV music special in recent years, chances are Ben Winston produced it.
Since signing off The Late Late Show with James Corden in 2023, which he executive produced, he’s more than had his hands full with his company Fulwell Entertainment, bringing a slew of music specials to the screen — with Dua Lipa, Elton John, and Brandi Carlile this year alone — along with Carpool Karaoke Christmas, Ellen DeGeneres: For Your Approval, The Kardashians, to name a few.
He also took on his own Mission: Impossible when he orchestrated Tom Cruise’s jump off the stadium roof as part of the Olympic torch handoff from Paris to L.A. as part of the closing ceremony. And then there was this year’s Grammy Awards — held in the wake of the devastating fires that ravaged Los Angeles.

The Friends reunion gave us all the nostalgic feels, but not everything we fans hoped for made it into the special. One major request to bring back The Routine was politely shut down by Courteney Cox and David Schwimmer. While the cast was game for a lot of reminiscing, this particular dance number from Season 6 was a hard pass.
Call it the fear of not living up to the memory or just wanting to leave the past untouched, the duo stuck to their decision. It was a moment many were hoping for, but it turns out some things are better left in the past.

Late-night television and the Emmys have had a symbiotic, yet complicated, relationship over the years.
Yes, Jimmy Kimmel, Stephen Colbert, Michael Che, Colin Jost and Kenan Thompson have hosted the awards show over the last ten years, but no, the TV Academy doesn’t really know what to do with their shows, according to many people behind-the-scenes in late-night.
Over the last three years, there have been rule changes, category swaps and nomination reductions impacting shows such as The Daily Show, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Late Night with Seth Meyers, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver and Saturday Night Live.
Back in 2022, a group of showrunners, led by Ben Winston, then showrunner of The Late Late Show with James Corden, successfully campaigned the TV Academy to cement a fifth nomination. A year later, Last Week Tonight was moved into a new category – Outstanding Scripted Variety...

Oscar night is all about timing.
The challenge is getting it right. You want to be at the best party when it’s peaking (or before), planted in place while the vibes are strong and the crowd remains peppered with people holding 8.5-pound golden statues, and bolting before you’re among the final few on the dance floor in order to catch a wave to the next best thing on Hollywood’s biggest night.
Journalists, like this one, are only allowed inside a handful of Oscar night events, a fact that fortunately helps to keep a hot schedule. There’s the requisite stop at the Academy’s post-show Governors Ball, the Elton John AIDS Foundation viewing party or Vanity Fair. The more exclusive invites — Madonna and Guy Oseary’s The Party or Beyoncé and Jay Z’s Gold Party, for instance — are press free zones. The late-night bashes offer A-listers,...

It takes a small army to pull off a nearly four-hour live awards telecast, full of spectacle, music legends and perhaps a record number of dancers this time around.

None of that can happen in a live telecast setting without a whole lot of advance work and a generous dollop of good luck to boot.

The 67th annual Grammys carried heavier emotional weight than usual, thanks to the backdrop of the Los Angeles wildfires — but the show’s most heartbreaking moment came at the start of the In Memoriam section: a carefully crafted video tribute to former One Direction member Liam Payne, who died at age 31 in October. For Grammy Awards executive producer Ben Winston, who worked closely with Payne and One Direction, the loss was personal. “I love Liam very much,” Winston says in the new episode of Rolling Stone Music Now. “We worked with him for years,...

So he was surprised and pleased when the Weeknd’s dramatic return to the Grammy stage Sunday night — after a years-long boycott and months of planning — somehow managed to stay secret until the moment he appeared. Music’s biggest night drew 15.4 million viewers on CBS Sunday night.
That’s down 12% from last year’s Grammys, which brought in 17.5 million viewers on CBS, per Nielsen Live + Same Day ratings. (The 2024 Grammys marked a 34% increase from the year before.)
Those figures do not include streaming and online viewership from Paramount+, CBS.com and the CBS app.
CBS claims that the music awards telecast was “the most social television program ever,” racking up 102.2 million interactions online. Still, marketing efforts for this year’s show were scaled back due to the wildfires in Los Angeles. As the ceremony focused on fundraising efforts and the resilience of the city, the Grammys raised nearly $9 million to aid wildfire relief efforts in California on Sunday night, and an additional $15 million over the weekend.
Sunday’s ceremony was the best Grammys in years, declared Variety‘s Chris Willman in his review of the telecast.

In Los Angeles at Sunday night’s Grammy Awards, pop music superstars Billie Eilish, Lady Gaga and rap icon Kendrick Lamar graced the stage at the Crypto.com Arena to profess their love for the city, its unique neighborhoods and its resilient people as residents begin to assess the devastation from the multiple deadly fires that tore through the city over three weeks in January.

The first day of the Los Angeles wildfires, Brad Paisley texted his friend Taylor Goldsmith of the band Dawes about the impact on the Pacific Palisades, where Paisley once owned a home. In one of his replies, Goldsmith told Paisley that the fire was now encroaching on Altadena, where Goldsmith, his wife Mandy Moore, and their children live. They had to evacuate.
“The next morning,” Paisley recalls, “he said, ‘Everything’s gone.’”
Goldsmith, whose house was damaged and recording studio destroyed in the Eaton fire, sounded a more hopeful note,...

Not many awards shows that have lasted 3 hours and 45 minutes have ever had a preponderance of viewers agreeing that this length was justified. Sunday night’s 67th annual Grammys telecast might be the exception that belongs in that very rarefied strata — a show so solid, so relatively fat-free, that you might not even have minded if it’d stretched a bit further to take up a few minutes in the east coast’s following calendar day. It had everything you could want out of a Grammycast: horse races that people actually cared about, a sense of connection to the real world outside of that suspense, and nary a dud across 16 packed performance slots.
Sure, you checked your watch… but at least partially in amazement that the show was still sustaining itself this flawlessly, this many hours in. Easily the best Grammys yet to be produced under the Ben Winston/Raj Kapoor/Jesse Collins administration,...

Beyoncé took home album of the year for the first time during the 2025 Grammys on Sunday night.
The singer was nominated alongside André 3000 (New Blue Sun), Sabrina Carpenter (Short n’ Sweet), Charli xcx (Brat), Jacob Collier (Djesse Vol. 4), Billie Eilish (Hit Me Hard And Soft), Chappell Roan (The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess), and Taylor Swift (The Tortured Poets Department).
Members of the L.A. Fire Department were on hand to present the award during a telecast that made fire relief central to the show and, as host Trevor Noah revealed toward the show’s end, raised $7 million for relief efforts.
When the singer’s name was announced to end the night, she emotionally embraced her daughter Blue Ivy and husband Jay-Z. The Cowboy Carter singer-songwriter also received a standing ovation from the audience.

Trevor Noah and dozens of music’s greatest artists toned down the self-celebration and focused the 2025 Grammys on helping Los Angeles rise from ashes.
“As usual we’re coming to you live from Los Angeles,” said Noah, opening the show on Sunday. “But what’s unusual are our circumstances this evening. Just a few weeks ago we weren’t sure that this show would even happen. You don’t need me to tell you this, but this city has just been through one of the largest natural disasters in American history. Tens of thousands of people have lost their homes, entire neighborhoods have been erased, schools, local business, and entire communities have burned to the ground. Thankfully, due to the heroic efforts of firefighters, the fires have now been contained, and despite all the devastation, the spirit of the city has emerged. Neighbors who had never spoken before are helping each other.

In the wake of the devastating wildfires that overtook Los Angeles throughout January, Grammys executive producer Ben Winston knew the show could have the power to bring the city together and begin rebuilding.
“We always felt, if it was safe to do so and if we had the permission of the local government and ambulance, fire and police service — all of which gave a green light for this event to happen — we all felt that it really should happen,” Winston told TheWrap, pointing to the roughly 6,500 blue collar workers who get a wage from contributing to the music-centric show, including drivers, set designers and florists, among others.
“It hasn’t been the easiest time for our industry,” Winston, who EPs alongside Raj Kapoor and Jesse Collins, said, noting how last year’s Grammys were impacted by the writers’ strike while the previous two ceremonies dealt with the residuals of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Grammy organizers said Wednesday that Sunday’s awards show will include a salute to Quincy Jones as well as tributes “celebrating the spirit of the city of Los Angeles” in the wake of this month’s devastating wildfires.
The show has lined up a slew of performers to take part in these special tributes, as well as in the In Memoriam segment.
While Wednesday’s news did not specify who is performing in each specific tribute, organizers said they will include Brad Paisley, Brittany Howard, Coldplay’s Chris Martin, Cynthia Erivo, Herbie Hancock, Jacob Collier, Janelle Monáe, John Legend, Lainey Wilson, Sheryl Crow, St. Vincent and Stevie Wonder.
As previously announced, this year’s Grammys telecast will also seek to raise additional funds to support Los Angeles wildfire relief efforts and honor first responders. Many events that traditionally make up Grammy Week have been canceled or reformatted to help people impacted by the fires.

The 2025 Grammys were shaping up to be a lively celebration of a vibrant year in music: the year of Chappell, Charli and Sabrina; of Taylor, Beyonce and Billie; of “Brat,” “Tipsy” and “Not Like Us.”
But on Wednesday, January 8, everything changed as wildfires raged across the Grammys’ home city of Los Angeles. For the third time in five years — following the Covid-altered shows of 2021 and 2022 — the Grammys had to pivot and transform what is usually an extravagant, glamorous celebration into something more serious and, at times, somber. “I’ll admit I was looking forward to a straightforward show,” says Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. “But on that Wednesday morning, it all just flipped upside-down.”
Although many people called for the Feb. 2 show to be postponed — and nearly every Grammy Week party was quickly canceled — for Mason and Ben Winston, the show’s executive producer, there was no question about moving forward.
