René Carson began his love of filmmaking and art at the age of 7, when he picked up a pencil and began drawing characters from his favorite films of the time. But unlike other kids, René didn't just draw cartoon characters. Two of his early portraits were actress Paula Prentiss from the original The Stepford Wives, and a Viper Probe Droid from Star Wars. He and his older brother Lamont soon began frequenting the grindhouse theaters of Jersey City, in search of every type of movie they could find, including horror, martial arts, adventure and science fiction. When René felt especially adventurous, he would wander into Chinatown or SOHO in New York City to catch the latest foreign and art films he could get into. His mother balanced this cult film passion with regular trips to Broadway shows of the era, including the original Dreamgirls, CATS, a Radio City production of Porgy and Bess, as well as countless others. An avid reader and art lover herself, she also 'dragged' the brothers to art galleries in downtown New York City regularly.

All of this lead to a broad scope of interests and artistic passions. However, it has been a long journey to get to the point René is at today - writing, directing and producing his first feature-length film project, Boulevard Warriors. It has been a journey that's included stints at a special high school for the visual arts, where he won an Excellence in Artistic Scholarship Award, as well as training in classical painting, graphic design, illustration and animation at the prestigious School of Visual Arts (SVA) in New York City, where he won a merit scholarship to attend. Along the way, René has become an accomplished multi-platform designer, motion graphic artist, illustrator, film & video editor, and creative director.

René's production company By Hand Media has evolved into a top-notch multimedia communications company, focused on giving opportunities to independent artists through a variety of platforms, including the Web, DVD & Blu-ray, Retail Products and Publication Design.

René recently completed work on the documentary Boulevard Warriors and is developing an action thriller that he's looking to begin shooting in 2013.
