The third installment of Apple TV+’s intriguing historical drama, Chief of War, starring Jason Momoa, continues to explore the separate story paths of Ka'iana and Ka'ahumanu.
Ka'iana, rescued by the English, is now aboard the ship heading for Alaska. One of his shipmates, Tony, teaches him English and about guns and weaponry. Ka'iana is fascinated by the guns but doesn’t understand their power until he goes hunting in Alaska and shoots an elk.
From Alaska, the English ship travels to Zamboanga in the Spanish East Indies (present-day Philippines). Ka'iana has a plan to buy several guns to take back to Hawai’i to fight Kahekili, but quickly finds out that he doesn’t have nearly enough money.

History has rarely looked this raw, bloody, and beautiful. With Chief of War, Jason Momoa doesn’t just give us another period drama; he dives headfirst into the soul of Hawaiian history, peeling back the Hollywood gloss to reveal the real stories of the islands’ most powerful figures. And yes, these were real people, not just characters born in a writer’s room.
Set during the late 1700s, when alliances were shifting like tides and kings were made by the blade, the series is a gritty reimagining of the epic conflicts that shaped the Hawaiian kingdom. But beyond the battles and betrayals lies the drama of chiefs, warriors, queens, and family torn apart by ambition and loyalty.
What makes Chief of War hit harder than your usual historical drama is its devotion to cultural accuracy, from the language to rituals, and even casting choices were carefully rooted in Hawaiian authenticity.

Temuera Morrison has been a part of the Star Wars franchise for over twenty years, most notably playing Jango Fett, the Clone Troopers, and Boba Fett, but he’s not ready to call it quits. In fact, the actor urged the audience at the Tampa Bay Comic Convention (via Collider) to contact Lucasfilm to bring him back for more projects.
“No,” Morrison said when asked if he had any Star Wars projects lined up. “We really have to treasure those moments now. All of you need to send a fax, or a letter or an email to those powers that be at Lucasfilm. I’m sure they’d love to hear from everyone. Please give Daniel Logan and Temuera Morrison another chance and put them somewhere.“

The road to bringing the story of the history of the unification of the Kingdom of Hawaii has had a long journey. Both Dwayne Johnson and Jason Momoa have been associated with adapting the sprawling history of the Polynesian tribes before they were colonized. Chief of War takes a deep dive into the final years of the disparate islands ruled by warring factions and how they came together under the leadership of a single ruler to become a unified nation. It is a fascinating tale delivered using authentic language, weapons, and costumes that follow in the historical record of the Hawaiian people.
Chief of War follows Ka’iana (Jason Momoa), an exiled chief who lives abroad with European sailors to garner weapons to return to his homeland to defend his people from the rampage of Kahekili (Temuera Morrison), a tribal chief who seeks to control all of the Hawaiian islands.

One of the major points in the Apple TV+ show, Chief of War, is its ode to the native Hawaiian culture, and therefore keeping the show intact with the original language, rather than presenting it in English for users worldwide. The dialogues are primarily in the native Hawaiian language, ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi. This bold, creative decision was taken after carefully considering its impact and the aftermath thereof by both the co-creators, Thomas Paʻa Sibbett and Jason Momoa, with the latter quoting in an interview with The Wrap that,
“It was terrifying.”
The Game of Thrones star recalled further,
“Maybe 20% of the cast is fluent in the language. The rest were not, and Maori is not the same as Tahitian or Samoan. They are all separate languages, and even the ways those cultures fight and express themselves are completely different. So, even though we are all from Polynesia, it’s not easy.

Jason Momoa’s new series, Chief of War, has quickly become a standout on Apple TV+. Created by Thomas Paʻa Sibbett and Jason Momoa, who also stars and serves as an executive producer, the show premiered on August 1, 2025. It’s a historical drama that dives into the late 18th century when the Hawaiian Islands were divided into four warring kingdoms: Hawaiʻi, Maui, Oʻahu, and Kauaʻi.

The show features a strong cast including Luciane Buchanan, Te Ao o Hinepehinga, Te Kohe Tuhaka, and even Temuera Morrison in a guest role. A Still From The Night Agent(Photo Credit –Netflix)
Netflix has hooked viewers again with the return of The Night Agent, an action-packed thriller that dropped its second season earlier this year. After a long wait, fans were eager for more, and this time, the story dives even deeper.
What Happens in The Night Agent Season 2
The series, adapted from the novel, centers on Peter Sutherland, a low-level FBI agent played by Gabriel Basso, and Luciane Buchanan’s character Rose Larkin. What starts as a strange phone call soon pushes them deep into a political conspiracy with ties right up to the White House. Season one saw them piece together who killed Rose’s family while also uncovering the truth behind a deadly attack on Washington’s metro system.
Now, the second chapter picks up with Peter going off the grid after a mission falls apart, while Rose tries to track him down.

The second episode of Apple TV+’s Chief of War is a fast-paced, tense follow-up to the premiere. The timeline is fleshed out a little better, and the storyline moves forward in a significant way.
The two biggest issues with the first episode of Chief of War are that it's hard to discern who the characters are and which are essential to the story, outside of Jason Momoa’s Ki’iana. The second issue is an unclear timeline.
At the very opening of the series, the audience is informed that events take place toward the end of the 18th century. That is rather vague. For those unfamiliar with Hawaiian history, Captain James Cook was the first European to discover the islands in 1778. He died on a return trip in 1779 on the island of Hawai’i, in a dispute with the Hawaiians. This incident is briefly mentioned in episode 2, placing the...

Apple TV+’s new original series Chief of War explores events little known to most people. Taking place in the Hawaiian Islands, toward the end of the 1700s, it tells the story of the violent unification of the kingdoms that made up the islands.
Jason Momoa stars in this historical drama and serves as the co-creator and co-writer. He is impressive and convincing in the lead role of Ka'iana, and he brings a quiet intensity to the role.
The first episode of Chief of War gives a brief introduction to the state of affairs in the islands. Four kings rule their individual islands, the kingdoms of O’ahu, Maui, Kaua’i, and Hawaiʻi. The four island kingdoms exist in an almost constant state of war, where their kings fight to gain dominance over the others.
All of the people in these kingdoms wait for the fulfillment of a generations-old prophecy...

Ten years in the making, Jason Momoa and Thomas Pa’a Sibbett bring their passion project to life with the visually stunning, action-packed and culturally significant series, “Chief of War.” The Apple TV+ drama tells the story of the unification and colonization of Hawaii at the turn of the 18th century from an indigenous perspective.
It’s undoubtedly one of the most ambitious series in recent memory, as it takes a heavy and delicate subject matter but manages to make it action-packed and informative in equal measures, which can be a tough line to tow. I knew very little, if anything, about the history of Hawaii. However, after watching “Chief of War,” I felt inspired to research the various real-life figures and what happened to them after the events of the 10-episode series.

FX’s adaptation of James Clavell’s Shōgun was one of 2024’s buzziest shows, breaking Emmy Awards records and performing well enough that what had started as a limited series sparked development on second and third seasons.
Still, there were viewers who lamented that Shōgun spent too much time on its extended game of political chess, neglecting the epic samurai battles that they felt they’d been promised.
That bloodthirsty audience is more likely to feel well-served by the first season of Apple TV+’s Chief of War, from creators Thomas Pa’a Sibbett and Jason Momoa.
Over nine hourlong episodes, the show delivers a handful of grand set pieces within a context that feels suitably and satisfyingly epic. Chief of War is a series that intrigued me from the outset despite, or perhaps because, it was very clearly not made with someone like me in mind. A dramatized, unflinching retelling of the unification and colonization of Hawaii, the series is led by a predominantly indigenous Hawaiian and Polynesian cast and crew, centering that culture’s perspective in everything from narrative structure to spoken language.
As an outsider to Hawaiian culture but someone who is always willing and enthusiastic to learn about other cultures and non-Eurocentric history, this premise grabbed me from the moment I first heard about it. And having watched the entire series, I can confidently report that the end result is gripping and thoroughly engaging, though not without its issues here and there.

The reluctant warrior archetype tends to be as instinctively intriguing as it is irksomely far-fetched. Here’s a dude who’s the deadliest shooter west of the Mississippi or the toughest hombre east of Appalachia. They’re not just an expert in their chosen method of violence; they’re the expert. They’re also a practicing pacifist.
As a viewer, it’s an enticing characterization: Someone says they can do something extraordinary, but they refuse to do it, which only builds anticipation for the moment when they inevitably back up their claims. They don’t want to outdraw their trigger-happy opponent. They don’t want to throw down with a gang of knife-wielding assassins. They don’t want to rip out a man’s tongue with their bare hands and get a quick protein boost from eating it. But they can do all those things, and they will do all...

Told from a long-overdue indigenous perspective, Chief of War will chronicle Ka'iana's attempt to unify the inhabitants of the archipelago before they suffer the horrors of Western colonization in the late 18th century. Needless to say, their conflict won't be pretty, and a river of blood will be spilled.

There has been a glut of musical biopics over the last several years, but one of the more unusual projects on the horizon is a biopic of the band Sublime, whose success was snuffed out before it could begin by the tragic death of their lead singer, Bradley Nowell. Blue Bayou's Justin Chon is set to direct the film and co-write its screenplay. Chon spoke to Collider's Steve Weintraub recently on the red carpet for his upcoming Apple TV+ series, Chief of War. The film is still in the works, with Riverdale's Kj Apa cast as Nowell, but the story is in flux. Says Chon:
"As it's currently written, it’ll mostly follow from the early ‘90s until the end of Brad's life. But I think we're malleable because we're not quite set yet. I love the script that we have right now, but it could shift."

Last year, they proved their commitment to this idea by hiring Sébastien Vaniček, who made his feature directorial debut on the French horror film Vermin, a.k.a. Following the success of Evil Dead Rise in 2023, Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell assured fans that it wouldn't be another 10 years between movies. Thankfully, they're making good on that promise, as the next installment in the long-running franchise has officially begun filming.
Titled Evil Dead Burn, French filmmaker Sébastien Vaniček made a post on his Instagram account to announce that production has begun on the anticipated horror movie, which is slated to be released on July 24, 2026. He shared a picture of a clapboard with the film's title on it, writing, "Day 1. From 93 to Nz," in the caption. Folks immediately gathered in the comments to express their excitement, and rightfully so. Vaniček's debut feature, Infested, garnered all kinds of praise from fans and critics back in 2023, and would go on to win Best First Feature Film and Best Visual Effects at the 49th César Awards, which is basically the French version of the Oscars.

The massively popular Evil Dead franchise will take its next step forward in 2026 with Evil Dead Burn, and the production process got a major update straight from the movie's writer/director, Sébastien Vaniček. After a long hiatus, the Evil Dead franchise was rebooted in 2013 with Evil Dead by Fede Álvarez (Alien: Romulus), and followed up with Lee Cronin's Evil Dead Rise in 2023.
The franchise's current cadence is to have Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert, the originators of the Evil Dead series, hand-pick a new director for each new movie. Each director brings their own unique style and flair to the base concept of Deadites wreaking havoc on the mortal world, and while there are some commonalities and Easter eggs, each new movie can comfortably be treated as a stand-alone.

Despite its title — Evil Dead Burn — the latest installment from the Sam Raimi-created horror franchise is set to rise from the ashes (pun intended) next year and carry on as one of the genre’s most beloved film series. Since the project signed on Sébastien Vaniček, yet another celebrated filmmaker, to pick up the torch previously carried by Lee Cronin, Fede Álvarez, and, of course, Raimi, audiences have been eager to uncover more information surrounding the film, which is slated to fully traumatize viewers next year.
Thanks to a chat with one of the upcoming film’s stars, Luciane Buchanan, while on the red carpet for her latest project, Apple TV+’s Chief of War, Collider’s editor-in-chief, Steve Weintraub, received an incredible update surrounding the title’s production schedule. Welp, someone’s done it again. The Necronomicon has resurfaced, and despite all warnings against intoning any of the words inside, passages have clearly been read that’ve raised those malevolent deadites. Yes, the Evil Dead are rising once more. Two years after Lee Cronin’s Evil Dead Rise, the next instalment in the Sam Raimi horror saga is officially go: Evil Dead Burn, a film that, as far as we know, is unconnected (in a direct sense) to the previous entries in the series.
The film is being directed by French filmmaker Sébastien Vaniček, behind recent cult hit spider horror Infested, and Vaniček confirmed on his Instagram that cameras on Burn are officially rolling.
Details on Evil Dead Burn are relatively scarce – we have no sense of plot, or whether the film will pick up on any threads from Evil Dead Rise, or Fede Alvarez’s 2013 Evil Dead, or Raimi’s original trilogy.

As we await the arrival of Chief of War on Apple TV+ with bated breath, the show is creating headlines far and wide for being rooted in a gut-wrenching true story. It echoes the most turbulent times in Hawaii, and Jason Momoa and Thomas Paʻa Sibbett, the makers of the show, don’t take that responsibility lightly.
They take viewers into the authentic struggle of the 4 kingdoms of the islands, against the threat of Western colonization. Kaʻiana(Jason Momoa), the brave, noble warrior who strives to unite these kingdoms against the western forces, is the heart of the show. Deep-rooted in history and culture, Chief of War is ready to breathe life into the painful story of Hawaii’s past. At the red carpet premiere of Chief of War, Kiwi stars in the show reflect on how similar both languages and cultures are.

It's been a while since we had an update to share about The Night Agent season 3 as the upcoming season remained in production for much of the year, but we finally have some news directly from the creator himself. Peter Sutherland's next mission just got one step closer to hitting our screens as the third season officially hit the filming milestone that fans have been waiting for.
On July 14, The Night Agent creator Shawn Ryan revealed on social media that season has "officially wrapped production." Filming on the forthcoming third season began back in February 2025 before season 2 had even been released on Netflix. Critics and viewers alike were quick to compare it with Vikings, the cult classic with 93% Rotten Tomatoes rating, and we can’t disagree.
The larger-than-life characters, blood-soaked conflicts, and fierce battles for cultural identity depicted in Chief of War bear mythic resonance with the historical TV drama.
