The "gritty young-adult remake" was all the rage back in 2020. The success of "Riverdale" had opened the floodgates, leading to similar but perhaps less well-thought-out series like Netflix's "Fate: The Winx Saga" (adapting the early 2000s cartoon "Winx Club") and DC's "Titans". Some, like "Chilling Adventures of Sabrina" (a reboot of "Sabrina the Teenage Witch"), were more successful than others. But the gold rush to find the next nostalgic children's property to darkify was on, so it was both baffling and entirely unsurprising when news broke of a gritty, live-action reboot of "The Powerpuff Girls" being announced at The CW.
The venue was the only thing that made that wild pitch somewhat easier to swallow. As the home of "Riverdale," The CW was effectively ground zero for the "What if Ben 10 went to Euphoria High?" approach to TV writing. Even still, the chosen subject felt a bit too...

Apple TV+ Needs to Bring Back Sci-Fi Comedy Show Featuring Forgotten ‘Mission: Impossible 3’ Villain
In today’s league of genre-bending, Hello Tomorrow on Apple TV+ stood out like a rocket to the future, taking off from a suburban lawn but making it retro. Think Jetsons plus Mad Men aesthetic. They were deeply human themes wrapped in this slick sci-fi cover of a show. It not only entertained, but it also intrigued the audiences.
Billy Crudup was brilliant as Jack Billings, a morally ambiguous vacuum salesman who had dreams of going to the moon. He played the role with the same charisma that he had as the villain in Mission: Impossible 3. The first season of Hello Tomorrow with buzz, but it quickly fizzled out, only after one season, leaving fans wondering what could happen next.

Juliet & Romeo repositions Verona’s ancient feud within a neon‑tinged musical tapestry. Director Timothy Scott Bogart and composer Evan Kidd Bogart stitch Shakespeare’s narrative to a modern pop sensibility (think synth‑laced power ballads that nod to Swiftian craftsmanship). Clara Rugaard’s Juliet and Jamie Ward’s Romeo carry the film’s emotional core, though their duet numbers rarely outshine the production’s more exuberant ensemble set pieces.
Dante Ferretti’s sumptuous costumes—electric crimsons for Capulets, midnight blues for Montagues—pair with Byron Werner’s lensing to conjure an almost hallucinatory version of 14th‑century Italy. Sword fights erupt into choreographed dance‑offs, each cut suggesting a “sword ballet” that reframes violence as stylized pageantry. Filming in real Italian piazzas lends tangible gravity, even when lyrics soar into playful banter.
That pivot from tragedy to hopeful extravaganza, capped by a “Book Two” tease, invites reflection on why...

The push to find new angles on established stories has led audiences to some strange places. For the Disney live-action films, it’s ended in disaster, while the new approaches to Little Women, The Tragedy of Macbeth, and The Invisible Man led to critical success. Juliet & Romeo hopes to accomplish the same reinvention, providing its loaded ensemble with a pop ballad musical from the iconic music producer E. Kidd Bogart. Even though the music doesn’t always resonate, the visuals and choreography are remarkable in their own right.

Rebel Wilson has sung, danced, and made viewers laugh through films like Bridesmaids and Pitch Perfect, and now, she's royally dressed to kill. Collider can share an exclusive first look at the multi-talented actress in Juliet & Romeo, a new take on the classic Shakespeare romance that gives it a musical update like never before with a revamped pop soundtrack. The award-winning Wilson plays Lady Capulet, who appears confident and stunning in a flowing red dress complete with a golden headpiece that helps her stand out even in a sophisticated ballroom. Along with the other image, it's a showcase of the glamorous costumes and settings within writer-director Timothy Scott Bogart’s vision of Verona.

In 2021, The CW ordered and shot a live-action “Powerpuff Girls” pilot starring Chloe Bennet, Dove Cameron, Yana Perrault and Donald Faison, only for the series to be canceled and never see the light of day — until now.
Footage from the canceled series has been leaked onto YouTube and made into a trailer. Sources at CW confirmed to Variety that the footage is real, but a final trailer was never assembled before “Powerpuff Girls” was axed. At the time of the cancellation, CW may have been putting together a trailer for upfronts, but sources say the leaked footage would not have passed CW standards. The network sometimes used outside vendors to assemble trailers, so the leak could have been a rejected trailer from a third party. It may also have been a Warner Bros. TV trailer created for L.A. screenings or San Diego Comic Con.
Nevertheless, the leaked footage spread on social media Thursday.

2024 was a packed year for several actors working in Hollywood, whether they are continuously rising stars or already well-established names in the industry. The year had plenty of noteworthy character-driven dramas, animated features, chaotic comedies, and big-budget blockbusters to keep audiences entertained. More importantly, these actors proved their capability of playing two different types of characters.
For example, multiple actors from the enthralling and visually stunning Dune: Part Two, like Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, and Austin Butler, also appeared in acclaimed and award-worthy dramas in the same year. They are just a few of many actors who stole the show in 2024 with their commanding screen presence and shockingly good versatility. From newcomers like Cailee Spaeny to big-name stars like Chris Hemsworth, 2024 was a spectacular year for these particular performers.

Konstantin Stanislavski taught us that “there are no small parts, only small actors.” Film and TV familiar face Dabbs Greer believed that “every character actor, in their own little sphere, is the lead.” Both would probably have been excited about this year’s Oscar race, where several best picture contenders high-light the power of an ensemble film: no matter where a talent ranks on the call sheet, everyone in the film has some choice scene time.

2024 has been a year packed with great cinema from all different genres. Some of the years biggest hits have also been the most financially successful, like Dune: Part Two, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice and Deadpool & Wolverine. However, unfortunately, many other great films have fallen by the popularity wayside.
Every year brings a number of films that dont live up to financial or critical expectations, but there are also a lot of films that simply dont spark huge love from audiences. These films are absolutely not failures; they are completely underrated and deserve a second look.

Nick De Semlyen’s informative book “Wild and Crazy Guys” ostensibly has the same goal as Jason Reitman’s Saturday Night: fleshing out the legends that shaped the landscape of American comedy for decades to come, beginning with the hectic birth of the seemingly immortal sketch comedy show “Saturday Night Live.” But De Semlyen’s own analysis of the field doesn’t begin right at the beginning; the prologue of his book opens not with a play-by-play of the moments leading to SNL’s first episode, but rather an infamous moment in the show’s second season, in which new troupe member Bill Murray got into a backstage fistfight with former cast superstar (and then-host) Chevy Chase, mere moments before the episode went live.
With one simple anecdote, De Semlyen lays the foundation for a potent examination of the chaos and lacking professionalism that made this era of comedy so refreshing,...

It was no small feat to get “Saturday Night Live” off the ground at NBC, and as a result, the cast of “Saturday Night” is pretty huge. In many cases, the actors also look eerily similar to the people they’re playing.
Hitting theaters everywhere on Oct. 11 after a limited theatrical release in New York and Los Angeles, Jason Reitman’s “Saturday Night” tells the story of the 90 minutes right before the first-ever episode of “SNL.” It’s chaotic and at the time, even Lorne Michaels couldn’t explain what the show was going to be.

Plot: In the ninety minutes before the live airing of the first episode of Saturday Night Live, a young Lorne Michaels (Gabriel Labelle) desperately tries to keep NBC from pulling the plug while dealing with a cast, writers and crew in open rebellion.

He is slightly embarrassed to admit it, but Nicholas Podany first watched When Harry Met Sally as he was gearing up for an audition to portray the classic rom-com’s star, Billy Crystal.
Podany was going out for Jason Retiman’s Saturday Night (in theaters this weekend in limited release before opening wider on Oct 11.) Told in real-time, it tracks the 90 madcap minutes before the first episode of Saturday Night Live in 1975.
Podany, who trained at Julliard and had appeared on Broadway in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, auditioned first for SNL cast member Dan Aykroyd. For that self-tape, he recreated Aykroyd’s “Super Bass-o-Matic” sketch that saw the actor pulverizing a bass in a blender. Podany was then asked to audition for the role of a young Lorne Michaels and got a callback, but not for Michaels. Instead, he was sent pages from the script to read for a young Crystal.

Illustrations by Maddie Fischer. To participate in the Toronto International Film Festival Scavenger Hunt, simply take a selfie with each of the eight “landmarks” around Festival Street—the three-block stretch of King Street where you’ll find key festival venues, food trucks, and brand activations—then enter a raffle to win a prize. I wondered what a “landmark” would look like as I began my search one evening, killing time before Roberto Minervini’s existentialist war movie The Damned (all films 2024). I imagined informational placards on the festival’s main theaters—maybe I could learn something about the architecture of Roy Thomson Hall, the distinctive concert hall that resembles a mirrored funnel? Or some bizarre trivia about the Reitman family, that cinematic dynasty who developed the Lightbox Theater?I spotted the first landmark: a black square of poster board, affixed to a crowd-control barricade. It was adorned with plain white text,...

Over nearly 1,000 episodes, “Saturday Night Live” has given America some of its most successful comedians, iconic characters and quotable catchphrases. Now, just one year shy of the pop phenom’s 50th anniversary, director Jason Reitman gives back, turning an oral history of the very first episode into a rowdy, delectably profane backstage homage. “Saturday Night” kicks off at 10 p.m. on Oct. 11, 1975, and ticks its way in practically real time to Chevy Chase’s delivery of the infamous opening line. Fine, but who plays Chevy Chase? Or Gilda Radner? Or John Belushi, for that matter?
The research is one thing, but Reitman — whose father, Ivan, directed his fair share of “SNL” legends, and who always dreamed of writing for the show — sets a foolhardy challenge for himself in finding sufficiently funny people to play some of TV’s most beloved cut-ups. Miraculously, Reitman and casting director John Papsidera pull it off,...

Speaking with the Los Angeles Times, McCracken finally broke his silence regarding the canceled project. He revealed that he originally met with the network to discuss its plans for the live-action series, where he gave his honest feedback. So, David Corenswet is the Dcu's new Superman in Superman: Legacy and naturally the Internet has Thoughts about it. He's perfect, or he's too small, or he's not Henry Cavill, or he looks so much like Superman, or... Well, you get the idea. It's fair to say that Superman's movie casting carries similar expectations as casting Batman or James Bond. There's a weight of history there thanks to those who came before and how millions of DC comic book pages have portrayed DC's most wholesome superhero. In all of that, one question can too easily be passed over: will David Corenswet actually be a good Superman?

Screen Rant is proud to present an exclusive clip from the newest episode of Hello Tomorrow!, which just dropped on Apple TV+. The sci-fi dramedy takes place in an alternate reality that is full of 1950s values despite access to robots and floating vehicles. Amidst the rampant consumerism of society, a sales team working for BrightSide Lunar Residences is trying to make an honest living selling houses for a community on the moon. But if a brighter tomorrow is ready today, that begs the question of why the launch keeps getting delayed.
Hello Tomorrow! stars Billy Crudup (The Morning Show) as the team's fearless leader Jack Billings', a man whose charm and talent could sell someone sand in the desert. But while he seems fully aware that there is nowhere for his unsuspecting customers to land on the moon, his loyal and hardworking employees seem to be none the wiser.

The world of “Hello Tomorrow” loves both the retro and future in its retro-future aesthetic, lending the Apple TV+ series a visual distinctiveness. While the story itself — an exploration of ambition, the American Dream, and family ties — deals in classic tropes, the show’s presentation blends the greatest stylistic hits of the ’40s, ’50s, and ’60s with technological leaps of fancy straight out of a World’s Fair catalog and an episode of “The Jetsons.”
Less obvious an influence? Tex Avery, one of the most significant contributors to the Looney Tunes characters and the man behind a series of cartoons outlining the World of Tomorrow, whose work acted as inspiration for the pleasant facades and gizmo-gadgets of the series’ Vistaville. A mouse-trap, Rube Goldbergesque vibe suffuses the world of “Hello Tomorrow,” where cheerfulness masks latent violence — as suburban housewife Marie (Annie McNamara) finds out all too quickly moments into the first episode,...

“Hello Tomorrow!,” a new 10 episode, half-hour dramedy that follows a group of salesman hawking lunar timeshares in a retro-future world, officially launched on AppleTV+ on Friday, and for lauded actor Billy Crudup, the series hit close to home. TheWrap spoke with co-creators Lucas Jansen and Amit Bhalla and stars Crudup and Nicholas Podany to learn more about the show’s characters and themes, and how the series tackles the “disastrous ramifications” of radical optimism.
Crudup plays Jack Billings, a salesman of great talent and ambition, whose unshakeable faith in a brighter tomorrow inspires his coworkers and revitalizes his desperate customers – but threatens to leave him dangerously lost in the very dream that sustains him.
“We were told we were going to meet Billy to play the role and we were like, ‘Oh my God, this guy’s goddamn perfect. We gotta sell him, what do we even say, how do...

Apple TV+'s newest dramedy, Hello Tomorrow!, offers viewers the moon. Focused on a group of traveling salesmen who hawk lunar timeshares for a living, the series takes place in a retro-future world that sees 1950s morality come together with the tech of tomorrow. But in consumer-hungry America, no one is ever happy with what they have, which is why BrightSide Lunar Residences offers citizens a chance to start over on the moon.
Hello Tomorrow!'s incredible attention to detail can be attributed to director Jonathan Entwistle (I Am Not Okay With This), who helmed the first four episodes, and to showrunners Amit Bhalla and Lucas Jansen. The duo swung for the fences despite it being their first job of such scale, and they have a stellar cast to back them up. Billy Crudup (a fan favorite from Apple TV+'s The Morning Show) leads the way as Jack Billings,...

Though they merely play salesmen in Apple TV+‘s new comedy, Hello Tomorrow!, Billy Crudup and Nicholas Podany clearly learned a thing or two about hawking timeshares on… the moon.
“Tell me something, Matt — how’s that office there treating you?” asked Podany during a recent Zoom call with TVLine. “Is it big enough? You got enough light coming in? Well, up on the moon there’s nothing but acres for you to do whatever you like up there. You like seeing the stars? Boom, baby!”
