Evil Dead Burn Is Now Filming; First Official Production Photos Revealed
Image
When are people going to realize that reading aloud from that damn book just isn't going to end well?

Following the recent news that Sébastien Vaniček's Evil Dead Burn was preparing to shoot in New Zealand, the filmmaker has officially announced that cameras are now rolling, while taking to social media to share a first look at the movie's logo and a production still.

Vaniček made his feature directorial debut with Vermin/Vermine, aka Infested, which focused on the residents of a rundown French apartment building attempting to survive when an army of venomous, rapidly reproducing spiders invade.

The movie garnered a lot of acclaim, and won Best Picture and Best Director in its North American premiere at Fantastic Fest. It was also invited to the Sitges Film Festival, where it earned a nomination for Best Motion Picture and won a Special Jury Prize.

James Wan and Allison Williams Offer Exciting Update on 'M3GAN' Spin-Off 'SOULM8TE'
Image
As M3GAN 2.0 brings the titular killer robot back to theaters for one more “AI goes rogue” rampage, news about the spin-off titled SOULM8TE has emerged. James Wan, franchise producer, and Allison Williams, star of M3GAN 2.0 and executive producer of SOULM8TE, have talked about the horror film which recently wrapped production. "It's like Fatal Attraction but with robots," Wan says, and well, we're sold.

Wan and Williams spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the recent release of M3GAN 2.0, and used the opportunity to also address the spin-off written and directed by Kate Dolan. The film follows a man who has lost his wife, and seeks a companion in a realistic android. As expected, the entity becomes sentient, and develops an obsession with its owner. SOULM8TE stars Lily Sullivan, David Rysdahl, Claudia Doumit and Oliver Cooper, among others.

James Wan, 48, Claims the 'M3GAN' Spin-Off Will Be "More Adult"
Image
With M3GAN 2.0 currently playing in theaters, the sequel to the 2022 hit, fans have high hopes for what comes next: the upcoming M3GAN spin-off, SOULM8TE. Scheduled for early next year, the follow-up was announced in development in June 2024, with Kate Dolan directing and rewriting the screenplay, based on a previous draft written by Rafael Jordan. Furthermore, M3GAN co-producer James Wan will return in the same capacity through his company Atomic Monster, and unsurprisingly, he has grand plans for SOULM8TE, which he recently shared with EW, teasing a more grown-up perspective.

In SOULM8TE, slated to release in theaters in January 2026, David Rysdahl plays a man who acquires an artificially intelligent android to cope with the loss of his recently deceased wife. He attempts to create a truly sentient partner but inadvertently turns a supposedly harmless love-bot into a deadly soulmate. Evil Dead Rise star Lily Sullivan portrays the android, while...

M3GAN 2.0 Has Critics and Audiences Divided After Underwhelming Debut
Image
The killer doll is back. After the massive success of the first installment, the robotic doll is back in M3GAN 2.0, but the highly anticipated sequel didn't receive the same warm welcome as its predecessor.

Universal Pictures and Blumhouse's M3GAN was an unexpected horror hit, and received praise for its campiness, humor, and horror. The sequel brought the same team back, but it didn't have the same impact, especially with M3GAN 2.0 leaning more into action territory than horror. However, after its release in theaters, M3GAN 2.0 has critics and audiences divided on Rotten Tomatoes, with the sequel earning a "rotten" score from the critics but a better one than the original from the audience.

M3GAN 2.0 debuted with a positive score, but barely: 61%. As more reviews came in, the sequel struggled to keep its "fresh" badge, and it now holds a "rotten" score of 58% out of 144 reviews. The critics...

Very Demure, Very Mindf*ck: 10 Horror Movies to Watch After The Substance
Image
So, you survived The Substance. Congrats! But if your brain’s still buzzing with its trippy visuals and squirm-worthy themes of transformation, you’re probably itching for more horror that messes with your head—and maybe your stomach. Body horror is all about taking the human form and saying, “What if we… didn’t?” And when you add female leads, vibrant aesthetics, and stories packed with emotional (and sometimes literal) guts, the result is an unforgettable lineup of films that are as smart as they are …squishy.

But let’s get one thing straight—not every movie on this list is straight-up body horror. Some lean more into psychological horror, others tackle themes of identity and empowerment, and a few just want to paint the walls red. What they all have in common? Bold female protagonists, jaw-dropping visuals, and transformations that’ll leave you squirming in the best way possible.

M3GAN 2.0 Still Reveals M3GAN's New Look As Director Teases Franchise's Evolution Ahead Of "Erotic" Spin-Off

M3GAN was a bigger hit than expected in 2022 and Blumhouse is acting quickly to capitalise on the movie's box office success. Along with a sequel about the killer doll titled M3GAN 2.0, an erotic-thriller spin-off, SOULM8TE, is also in the works.

So, you could call it an all-new MCU (M3GAN Cinematic Universe). "I am terrified to imagine what that would mean. What is the Thanos equivalent?" star Allison Williams tells Entertainment Weekly (via FearHQ.com). "Let's just keep going as long as they're interesting and each one has its own story to tell."

While plot details are being kept a secret ahead of the sequel's release in theaters next year, director Gerard Johnstone teases, "I had actually a different idea for the ending of M3GAN, which would've been interesting but probably not as satisfying. The good thing about doing a sequel is I got the chance to expand on that idea into a longer narrative.

'SOULM8TE': 'M3GAN' Spinoff Reveals Plot Details, 2026 Release
Image
In 2023, M3GAN was an immediate hit for Blumhouse and Universal, as the story about an AI doll that became self-aware struck a chord with viewers and critics, who universally praised the movie for delivering something fresh to the horror genre. Earning more than $180 million at the box office, a sequel seemed inevitable, but what fans didn’t expect to get was a spin-off, which is why the news of SOULM8TE came as a surprise to many. Now, the creators of the new film are teasing what we can expect when it hits theaters in 2026.

Not much is known about SOULM8TE at this point, other than it will star Evil Dead Rise’s Lily Sullivan, as well as Oppenheimer’s David Rysdahl and The Boys’ Claudia Doumit. Plot details are thin, but it’s at least been confirmed that the movie will center around a man who acquires an android to...

Evil Dead Spin-Off From Vermin Director Sébastien Vaniček Gets Official Title; Set For Release In 2026
Image
Director Lee Cronin's recent Evil Dead Rise proved to be a big success for Sam Raimi and Robert Tapert’s Ghost House Pictures (grossing $147 million against its $15-19 million budget), so it was inevitable that another instalment in the iconic horror franchise would enter development sooner rather than later.

Back in February, we got word that Vermin director Sébastien Vaniček had been enlisted to co-write and helm the then untitled project, which was described as a spin-off. This indicated that the movie would not be a direct sequel to Rise, but all plot details are still under wraps for the time being.

Now, Vaniček has taken to Instagram to announce that the movie is officially titled Evil Dead Burn, and will be released at some point in 2026.

Evil Dead Burn is coming in 2026 from Infested director Sébastien Vaniček
Image
Evil Dead fans have plenty to look forward to in the coming years as the franchise based on Sam Raimi's original 1981 film continues to evolve.

French director Sébastien Vaniček recently shared an exciting update on the next planned movie in the franchise, which we now know will be titled Evil Dead Burn. The director shared a photo of the screenplay's title page via his social media account, teasing the next chapter. He and Florent Bernard co-wrote the script.

Previously, Lee Cronin wrote and directed the smash hit 2023 movie Evil Dead Rise, starring Alyssa Sutherland and Lily Sullivan as sisters who must combat the Deadites after their kids mistakenly summon them via the infamous Necronomicon, unaware of what the book really entails.

Evil Dead Rise performed very well theatrically, earning more than $147 million and receiving praise from critics. In many ways, Cronin's film felt like a fresh reboot of the long-running franchise,...

How The Next Two Evil Dead Movies Fit Into Franchise Timeline Explained By Bruce Campbell
Image
Bruce Campbell, who portrays Ash in the Evil Dead series, has explained how the next two movies in the horror franchise will fall into its larger timeline. Following the success of 2023's Evil Dead Rise, it was announced in February 2024 that an Evil Dead spinoff was in production, with Sbastien Vaniek attached as director and co-writer alongside Florent Bernard. Then, in April 2024, it was revealed a second spinoff would also be entering development, written and directed by Francis Galluppi. The plots for both upcoming entries are under wraps.

Speaking with Screen Rant, Campbell teased how the new Evil Dead movies will fit into the larger timeline, explaining that it's not as planned out as something like George Lucas' Star Wars movies were. The actor teased that the franchise is beyond the original cabin and Ash, hinting at the upcoming movies feeling more like their own independent stories set in the same universe.

Evil Dead Rise Is Finally on Netflix and Its Worth the Hype
Image
When it comes to horror, Netflix is not necessarily the best streaming service. Sure, it has some outstanding content and original films, like the Fear Street Trilogy, The Platform, and Cam, but if you are looking for horror in abundance, the streaming giant has not always been the best for fans of the genre. That is why when a movie gets added that has a deserved hype behind it, there is a reason to celebrate; especially when it lands just in time for the coming month of Halloween-focused viewings.

Currently, Evil Dead Rise rests at an impressive 84% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, and 76% on the popcorn meter. However, this is just scratching the surface of what makes the gory, supernatural horror movies such a gem worthy of your time. We will look at what makes the entry into the Evil Dead franchise hype-worthy and why you need to check it...

Jane Levy in Evil Dead (2013)
How Much Fake Blood Evil Dead Rise Really Used
Jane Levy in Evil Dead (2013)
Like the previous movies in the Evil Dead franchise, Evil Dead Rise has generous amounts of blood or perhaps a bit too generous, as it has one scene that went above and beyond with blood. A decade after Fede lvarezs reimagining simply titled Evil Dead, the franchise was brought back to life with a new installment, unrelated to Alvarezs movie and Sam Raimis trilogy. Directed by Lee Cronin, Evil Dead Rise left Ash Williams behind and introduced a new version of the Necronomicon and new main characters who had to fight against the evil force unleashed by it.

Evil Dead Rise followed Beth (Lily Sullivan), who arrived at her estranged sister Ellies (Alyssa Sutherland) home. Moments later, an earthquake uncovered a secret chamber underneath the buildings parking lot, and Ellies son, Danny, took home some phonograph records and a mysterious book he found there. However, Danny unknowingly unleashed an evil...

Bruce Campbell's Evil Dead Rise Cameo Cleverly Avoids A Plot Hole With Sam Raimi's Original Trilogy
Nell Fisher, Gabrielle Echols, Alyssa Sutherland, and Morgan Davies in Evil Dead Rise (2023)
Although Evil Dead Rise doesnt include Ash Williams, Bruce Campbell had an interesting cameo, through which the movie cleverly avoided a plot hole with Sam Raimis original Evil Dead trilogy. Few horror franchises have had as much fun as the Evil Dead one, with different versions and some movies even mixing horror with comedy. The franchise began in 1981 with Sam Raimis The Evil Dead, followed by Evil Dead II in 1987 and Army of Darkness in 1993, all of them starring Bruce Campbell as Ash Williams, the ultimate Final Boy.

The Evil Dead franchise came back to life in 2013 with Fede lvarezs Evil Dead, a reimagining of Raimis original movie and the first in the franchise without Ash Williams as the main character. Ten years later, the franchise was revived again with Lee Cronins Evil Dead Rise, a standalone entry with new characters and a new version of the Necronomicon. Despite Ash...

Lily Sullivan Movies & TV Shows
Image
Australian actor Lily Sullivan may not be an A-list star yet, but she is one well worth watching out for and her movies and TV roles prove it. Sullivan acted in her first film when she was 17 years old in a movie called Mental. Mental featured Sullivan as one of a family of five kids who are overseen by a hotheaded new nanny. Mental was released to mixed reviews upon its release in 2012.

Now 31 years old, Sullivan has gone on to be in a smattering of other projects since then. Mental was her gateway into numerous other roles that have allowed the actor to continue to have a career that, while low-profile, is worth reviewing. Throughout her film and television roles, the actor has displayed her strength in a wide array of genres. Sullivan's career continues on today, with recent work that proves even more that she is one to watch out for.

Evil Dead Rise's Deadites Hide Clever Callbacks To Sam Raimi & Fede Alvarez's Dead Movie Characters
Nell Fisher, Gabrielle Echols, Alyssa Sutherland, and Morgan Davies in Evil Dead Rise (2023)
Evil Dead Rise brought the Evil Dead franchise back to life, and though its a standalone sequel, it has some clever references to characters from Sam Raimi and Fede Alvarezs movies. In a time when the horror genre is packed with reboots and legacy sequels, Evil Dead Rise stood out thanks to its new approach to a very well-known franchise. Written and directed by Lee Ronin, Evil Dead Rise is the fifth installment in the Evil Dead movie series but a standalone entry, meaning it doesnt follow the continuity of the previous movies.

Did You Catch Both Bruce Campbell Cameos in 'Evil Dead Rise'?
Image
Lee Cronins Evil Dead Rise, which has recently shot up on Netflix's top 10 movies list, is a glorious take on one of the best horror franchises ever. Cronins sequel was exactly what fans wanted from an Evil Dead movie, bringing unsettling horror thats elevated by some of the most creative practical effects in the industry. Not only that, but it included a brand new set of characters, brought brilliantly to life by a new cast of talented actors. The lead performances by Lily Sullivan as hero Beth and Alyssa Sutherland as Ellie-turned-Deadite Mommy of Nightmares are particularly effective. While these new heroes and villains are brilliant additions to the franchise, some may be wondering where the hell is the guy who started this mess in the first place: Ash Williams. Since Bruce Campbell has hung up his chainsaw and boomstick, his iconic Evil Dead hero is not part of Evil Dead Rise.

Nell Fisher, Gabrielle Echols, Alyssa Sutherland, and Morgan Davies in Evil Dead Rise (2023)
Evil Dead Rise Quickly Cracks Netflix Top 10
Nell Fisher, Gabrielle Echols, Alyssa Sutherland, and Morgan Davies in Evil Dead Rise (2023)
As only Bruce Campbells beloved character Ash Williams can say, its flat-out groovy how fast Evil Dead Rise is climbing the Netflix Top 10 chart. The 2023 horror film just dropped Monday, September 23 on Netflix (per Tudum), and its only taken two days for director Lee Cronins contribution to the Deadites dynasty to ascend all the way up to No. 2 on the streaming services Top 10. And given that Halloween is just around the corner, the latest Evil Dead film should thrive during the spookiest of seasons leading up to All Hallows Eve.

It shouldnt be a surprise, though, that Evil Dead Rise is thriving on Netflix. Even without the franchises most beloved character, Ash (Campbell) playing an integral role this time around, fans couldnt get enough of the Necronomicon as moviegoers coming right out of theaters gave the frightening flick a B CinemaScore, which is a fabulous rating for a film from the horror genre.

One Of 2023's Best Horror Movies Is Sitting High On Netflix's Top Charts
Image
Theatrical experiences are essential, but there's also something to be said for getting the pants scared off you in your own home. Netflix watchers seem to agree, as they've been flocking to "Evil Dead Rise" en masse since it hit the streamer just two days ago, according to FlixPatrol. The analytics site tracks what Netflix subscribers are watching, and Lee Cronin's gross and grimy addition to the Sam Raimi-created "Evil Dead" universe is currently the second-most watched movie on Netflix according to its metrics.

"Evil Dead Rise" is losing out only to "The Garfield Movie," which is no surprise given that kids' movies typically dominate the home media charts (likely for both rewatchability and ease of access reasons). The two titles couldn't be more different, though, as one features a cat who loves lasagna and one (literally) takes a cheese grater to a demonically-possessed woman's leg. As skin-crawling at that scene is,...

Evil Dead Rise Cast & Character Guide
Image
The cast of Evil Dead Rise might not be household names, but their performances help to bring the blood-curdling terror of the classic horror franchise to life. Based on the characters created by Sam Raimi, the 2023 movie Evil Dead Rise transfers the nightmare of the Deadites from the seclusion of a cabin in the woods to the unfriendly confines of a Los Angeles apartment building. Despite the change of location and characters, Evil Dead Rise still delivers all the chills and thrills expected from an Evil Dead movie, but with a modern cast and entirely new demonic Deadites.

Upping the ante for the already gruesome franchise, the extreme horror of Evil Dead Rise aims to top even the worst moments from the earlier films while also exploring the relationship between two reunited sisters. The family dynamic is put to the ultimate horrifying test as the demons of the Necronomicon return...

Evil Dead Rise Ending Explained: What Happens To Beth
Image
Warning! This article contains Spoilers for Evil Dead Rise! The Evil Dead Rise ending perfectly reinvents the gory violence that the franchise is known for. However, the Evil Dead reboots final scenes also brim with emotional overtones that turn the supernatural horror film into an exploration of parenthood. Set mostly within a night, Evil Dead Rise shifts the series focus from cabins in forests to a Los Angeles apartment building. The plot begins with estranged sisters Beth and Ellie briefly reconnecting, only for their reunion to be cut short by the latest appearance of one of the Necronomicons in the Evil Dead universe timeline.

While 2013's Evil Dead also garnered positive reviews, Evil Dead Rise revitalized the franchise with new claustrophobic settings and morally-conflicted characters. Apart from its awe-inducing hyper-violence and innovative jump scares, Evil Dead Rise was celebrated for Lee Corins writing and directorial efforts, along with Lily Sullivan and Alyssa Sutherlands performances.

Bruce Campbell Reveals the Worst Part of Filming Evil Dead Projects
Image
Bruce Campbell has been covered in a lot of fake blood during his years playing Ash Williams in the The Evil Dead franchise. However, in the actors own words, it is not a process that he would ever call enjoyable.

Although Bruce Campbell has now seemingly hung up his chainsaw for good when it comes to on-screen appearances as his iconic character, back in 2016 the actor was back for more Deadite action in the unexpected and very welcome Starz sequel series Ash vs Evil Dead. While speaking to Inverse, the actor explained how the methods used to splatter him with fake blood had become more sophisticated since his early years in the role, but the substance itself was just as repellent as it ever was.

They have a pressurized beer keg that theyve converted into a blood keg. Pressurized tubes going in one end, and it shoots it out the other.

One Of The Best Recent Horror Movie Reboots Is Coming To Netflix In September After Record-Breaking $147M Box Office
Image
Netflixs horror movie catalog is growing in September 2024 with the addition of Evil Dead Rise, one of the strongest horror franchise reboots in recent years. Before Lee Cronins 2023 standalone sequel to Sam Raimis Evil Dead movies, the franchise had already been rebooted once in 2013. The underrated 2013 remake/reboot, Evil Dead, was helmed by Fede lvarez, who recently rebooted another classic horror franchise with 2024s hit standalone sequel Alien: Romulus. However, Cronins 2023 Evil Dead movie took the franchise in a very new direction, which paid off with substantial critical acclaim and a record-breaking box office return.

Following its streaming success on Max, Warner Bros. Evil Dead Rise comes to Netflix for the first time on September 23, 2024. The movie originally hit theaters in April 2023, with Evil Dead Rises small cast being led by Alyssa Sutherland, Lily Sullivan, Morgan Davies, Grabrielle Echols, and Nell Fisher. Evil Dead Rise is Coming to Netflix, and Bruce Campbell Has Some Advice for Viewers
Image
Evil Dead Rise, the latest sequel in the Evil Dead universe, is crawling its way to Netflix in September, and franchise star Bruce Campbell has got some advice for those who still haven't seen it yet. The film, released in 2023, was a refreshing take on the demonic horror franchise created by Sam Raimi in the 1980s, and has reinvigorated the franchise enough for two new movies to already be in development.

Using X/Twitter, Campbell addressed Evil Dead Rise's arrival on Netflix by posting the following advice to his fans: "Hide the children. Seriously." Campbell was responsible for giving life to Ash Williams, the main character of the franchise in the first three Evil Dead films and the TV series Ash vs Evil Dead. He has also participated as a producer in the more recent films, and looks set to continue this role in future.

'Hide the Children': Bruce Campbell Reacts to Evil Dead Rise Heading to Netflix
Image
The hit horror sequel Evil Dead Rise is soon going to terrify Netflix subscribers. Set to start streaming on Netflix next month, the film's new home comes with a warning from franchise star Bruce Campbell.

In the first three Evil Dead films, Campbell starred as Ash Williams, an unlikely hero who becomes a master Deadite slayer after adopting a chainsaw for a new hand to replace the one he'd lost. Campbell is no longer starring in Evil Dead films, though he remains involved as a producer for the franchise. The newest installment of the movie series, the Campbell-produced Evil Dead Rise, was recently announced by Netflix to start streaming on Sept. 23. Campbell shared the announcement on X with an added message that stated, "Hide the children. Seriously."

Bruce Campbell Offers Cheeky Response to Avatar 3's Evil Dead-Like Title
Image
The third Avatar film had its title revealed at Disney's X23 Expo, getting a fun response from actor Bruce Campbell. As revealed at the event, James Cameron's threequel has officially been dubbed Avatar: Fire and Ash, and horror fans may already know where Campbell will be going with his reaction.

After the news was announced, Campbell shared an image of the movie's logo on his X account. In the caption, he slyly quipped, "Jim and I have been talking." Though the comment was presumably made in jest, it may be fun for fans to envision Avatar 3 as a crossover film with the Evil Dead franchise. While such a concept would most likely never see the light of day, the third Avatar film's title is certainly reminiscent of Evil Dead, and Fire and Ash even seems like something a film featuring Campbell's Ash Williams coul dhave been subtitled.
