Rs Recommends: How to Bag the Briefcase That Co-Stars With Brad Pitt in ‘Bullet Train’
Image
Can a piece of luggage co-star alongside Brad Pitt, Bad Bunny, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson? Bullet Train might have proved that it can, with a Tumi briefcase at the center of the new action movie.

The David Leitch film sees Pitt’s character, a bumbling assassin called Ladybug, caught up in a web of underworld mayhem on a Japanese bullet train — all of which revolves around “The Case That Everyone is After.” The case, which is actually Tumi’s 19 Degree Aluminum Briefcase, was offered as a limited-edition release when the film premiered.

How ‘Bullet Train’ Stunt Coordinator Trained Brad Pitt to Do His Own Stunts
Image
Before he was a director of spectacles like “Deadpool 2,” David Leitch did stunts for dozens of productions, often doubling for Brad Pitt in films including “Troy,” “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” and “Fight Club.” Leitch puts his stunt background to good use in the action film “Bullet Train,” in cinemas now, in which he reteams with Pitt, this time as director.

Based on a Japanese novel, the action comedy revolves around five assassins from around the globe who find themselves on a fast-moving train. Pitt stars as Ladybug, alongside Sandra Bullock, Brian Tyree Henry, Michael Shannon, Zazie Beetz, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Bad Bunny. Leitch aimed to deliver a character-driven story that captures the action in camera rather than relying on CGI and green screen. It was up to Greg Rementer, the film’s second-unit director and stunt coordinator, to deliver the helmer’s vision.

In designing a fighting style tailored to Pitt’s character,...

How 87North Is Training the Next Class of Stunt Performers
Image
87North, the production company behind such action films as “Nobody,” the John Wick series, “Atomic Blonde” and the upcoming “Bullet Train,” is unique in that it coaches stars such as Charlize Theron, Keanu Reeves and Brad Pitt to perform their own fight scenes. Now, the company is paving the way for the next generation of stunt performers with a state-of-the-art training facility in the heart of Hollywood.

The new 87North location, a converted church on Sunset Boulevard with high beams and stained-glass windows, is a step up from the company’s 87Eleven facility near El Segundo. Former production manager turned producer Kelly McCormick says, “Inglewood is a long way, but people still made the pilgrimage down there.”

Headed by McCormick and husband David Leitch, a former stunt coordinator who now directs action films like “Bullet Train,” the Hollywood location will prove more accessible for actors and stunt performers — and is closer to Universal,...

Brad Pitt Is Having the Most Fun on the "Bullet Train" Press Tour, and We Have Photo Evidence
Image
Brad Pitt's big return to the box office as a leading man following his 2020 Oscars win is coming this week - and no one seems more excited about it than him. The actor has been out and about promoting his upcoming assassin movie "Bullet Train" over the past few weeks ahead of the film's release on Aug. 5.

"Bullet Train" - which also stars Bad Bunny, Sandra Bullock, Zazie Beetz, Michael Shannon, Hiroyuki Sanada, Logan Lerman, and Andrew Koji - follows five assassins as they aim to complete their individual missions at the expense of each other while aboard a high-speed commuter rail in Japan. David Leitch directed the film, and Pitt, 58, performed 95 percent of his own stunts, the film's stunt coordinator, Greg Rementer, told Vulture.

For the promo tour, in addition to some fabulous ensembles - like the skirt he opted to sport for the film's Berlin premiere -...

Brad Pitt, Bad Bunny, Sandra Bullock, and Joey King Go to War in "Bullet Train" Trailer
Image

Brad Pitt in a bucket hat? Yes, please! "Bullet Train," which hits theaters on Aug. 5, features Pitt facing some tough competition as he returns to a career as an assassin. "Every job I do, somebody dies," he says in one of the trailers. "I'm not that guy anymore." Well, the passengers on said train might have other plans. The cast includes Bad Bunny, Sandra Bullock, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Joey King, Zazie Beetz, Michael Shannon, Brian Tyree Henry, Hiroyuki Sanada, Logan Lerman, and Andrew Koji, and they've all got their eyes on the same prize.

While the movie was filmed during the pandemic, we were able to get an initial peek at some actors in costume when King posted a picture she took with Henry back in January 2021. "Please have your tickets ready for the killer, I mean conductor," she wrote. Based on the Japanese book "Maria Beetle" by Kotaro Isaka,...

Bullet Train CinemaCon Footage Reveals Brad Pitt Vs. Bad Bunny Fight
Image
The first footage from John Wick director David Leitch's Bullet Train debuted at this year's CinemaCon event, and features Brad Pitt going toe-to-toe with global hip-hop star Bad Bunny. While the sequence shows was reportedly quite brief, especially when compared to other reels shown at the event, it does give us a good idea of what to expect, as well as some interesting insight into Pitt's character.

While many no doubt expected Brad Pitt to be suited up and looking stylish, this is apparently far from the case, with the actor reportedly looking more akin to his stoner character in 1993's True Romance. Pitt's character, named Ladybug, is shown in the footage as "a drifter rocking hiking boots and a faded tweed coat," with the titular transport looking "gorgeous and claustrophobic."

The footage then broke into a fight between Pitt and Bad Bunny, whi sports "a white pinstripe suit,...

Bullet Train Will Bring Brad Pitt Speeding Back to Movie Theaters in Spring 2022
Image
Brad Pitt and a cavalcade of master assassins will shoot up a storm in Bullet Train in 2022, it has just been announced. The action flick, which is being directed by John Wick's David Leitch has been set for a release date of April 8, 2022 by Sony, with the movie due to hit theaters.

Based on the popular manga Maria Beetle by Kotaro Isaka, Bullet Train follows five assassins who find themselves on a Japanese bullet train, and slowly realize that their individual assignments are all interconnected. The action outing has since been described as having the tone of Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock's 1994 movie Speed and Liam Neeson's 2014 plane thriller Non-Stop.

The movie has amassed the kind of cast that only comes together once in a while, with Brad Pitt, whose character is named Ladybug, leading an ensemble that includes the likes of Joey King (The Kissing Booth...

Brad Pitt Won Oscar for Playing a Stuntman, Then Performed 95 Percent of His ‘Bullet Train’ Stunts
Image
Brad Pitt won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor by playing stuntman Cliff Booth in Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” so it’s only fitting he performed nearly all of his own stunts for follow-up project “Bullet Train.” The action movie from “John Wick,” “Deadpool 2,” and “Atomic Blonde” director David Leitch stars Pitt as one of several hitmen who engage in bloody warfare aboard a speeding train. The supporting cast includes fellow Oscar winner Sandra Bullock, plus Michal Shannon, Joey King, Brian Tyree Henry, Zazie Beetz, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Bad Bunny.

“Brad did 95 percent of his physical stunts — the fighting,” Greg Rementer, the second-unit director and stunt coordinator on “Bullet Time,” recently told Vulture. “He’s like a natural-born athlete. He really got in there!”

Rementer said Pitt’s worth ethic extended to the entire cast, adding, “Never have I ever done so many huge...

Bob Odenkirk Underwent Two Years of Training to Do His Own Stunts in ‘Nobody’
Image
Bob Odenkirk had plenty of time to prep for his latest role — two years to be precise. During the week he would film “Better Call Saul,” and on weekends he would fly to meet up with a stuntman for his role in Universal action thriller “Nobody,” which opens March 26 in theaters.

The 58-year-old actor plays Hutch, a seemingly milquetoast suburban husband who, trying to keep his family safe, doesn’t fight back when thieves break into his home one night. But the robbery triggers his long buried, violent past, propelling the film from “Hardcore Henry” director Ilya Naishuller.

It was the first time Odenkirk, known for a career in comedy, had delved into stunts. But the actor, also a producer on the project, had another motive — a personal one: His own home had been broken into twice. If anyone could relate to Hutch, it would be him.

Notably, Odenkirk does...

Jason Statham, Idris Elba, Dwayne Johnson, Eiza González, and Vanessa Kirby in Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw (2019)
Inside the Wild Yet Believable Action of ‘Hobbs & Shaw’
Jason Statham, Idris Elba, Dwayne Johnson, Eiza González, and Vanessa Kirby in Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw (2019)
For supervising stunt coordinator Chris O’Hara, topping franchise fans’ expectations for high-octane action in “Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw” was no Sunday drive.

“The hardest part is coming up with concepts and trying to be unique and different,” says O’Hara about working on the franchise’s ninth film and its first spinoff. The crew thought of the “wackiest things out there, and we were trying to achieve them.”

Since car chases are integral to the movie, which stars Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham, O’Hara had to balance inspiration with financial constraints. “You start massaging the scene to fit into your budget,” he says, which means weighing the beats in every sequence.

A McLaren 720S was used for one of the major car-chase sequences. The car presents an unusual challenge in that it’s designed so the average driver doesn’t have access to its full racing capabilities.
