The final episode of The Sandman, "A Tale of Graceful Ends," deals with the fallout of Morpheus' death and the emergence of a new incarnation of Dream of the Endless, with Daniel Hall (Jacob Anderson) struggling to come to terms with his very existence and the rest of The Endless coming together to mourn their departed brother.
Tom Sturridge does appear in one final flashback scene towards the end of the finale, as we see Morpheus pay a visit to William Shakespeare upon the completion of his second commissioned play, The Tempest.
Dream invites the legendary playwright to The Dreaming to share a glass of wine, and we find out why the Prince of Stories made a deal with the then "naff actor" known as Will Shaxberg in the first place. Deep down, Morpheus knew that he could never abandon his responsibilities as Destruction had by leaving "his island," and...

When most people think of successful fantasy TV shows, HBO and Prime Video are probably the first two networks that come to mind. They’ve both upped their investments in the fantasy genre lately with new seasons of House of the Dragon, The Wheel of Time, The Rings of Power, and more, but Netflix isn’t that far behind.
There are some great Netflix fantasy shows to stream right now! Since Game of Thrones, Netflix has quietly assembled an epic lineup of fantasy shows. There were so many shows that could have made this list, but I wanted to choose a very small, select group of shows that fantasy fans need to watch if they haven’t yet.
So, let’s get the ranking of the best Netflix fantasy shows started with Shadow and Bone.

The reaper herself is at the center of The Sandman‘s finale, an episode that chronicles the Endless sibling’s one day off every century. Though the connections became more tenuous as the series went on, Neil Gaiman's The Sandman was very much set within the main DC Comics Universe, with appearances from the likes of Martian Manhunter, Mr. Miracle, and even Batman, who showed up at Morpheus' funeral in "The Wake."
A few vague references aside, the Netflix series mostly avoids any direct DC nods, but co-creator/showrunner Allan Heinberg has now revealed that a cameo from Batman was discussed.
“We talked about, ‘Does Robert Pattinson want to come to the funeral?’ Briefly, we did discuss that, but only briefly.”
Getting Pattinson on board would probably have been a mission and a half, but they could have shown the Dark Knight's unmistakable cowl from the back as the mourners are making their way inside the palace.

It stars Merlin‘s Colin Morgan as Sexton Furnival and Howell-Baptiste as Death on her day off. She only gets to walk among the living and take a break from carrying souls into the afterlife once every 100 years, so it’s a well-deserved break. The ...

Netflix gives fans one extra scene from The SandmanUniverse, and fans can watch it for themselves on social media.
While the release of Netflix's streaming adaptation of Death: The High Cost of Living on Jul. 31, the ongoing The Sandman series has come to an end. Fortunately for fans of the series' main story, this very special episode also comes with a post-credits sequence that ties back into the life of Jacob Anderson's Daniel Hall, now better known as Dream. The scene in question features Nina Wadia, Dinita Gohil, and Souad Faress' Kindly Ones seated around their table before cracking open a fortune cookie that holds piece of "bad poetry" that effectively ensures a bright future for the new Dream.

Spoiler Alert: This article contains major spoilers from “The Sandman” second and final season bonus episode, “Death: The High Cost of Living,” now streaming on Netflix.
The final chapter of Netflix’s “The Sandman” has no dreams, only death.
Titled, “Death: The High Cost of Living,” the bonus episode — which launched Friday, one week after the final season of “The Sandman” concluded — is based on a one-shot comic series from author Neil Gaiman that focuses on Dream’s (Tom Sturridge) sister Death (Kirby Howell-Baptiste) and the time she spends as a human once every 100 years. During this particular visit, she meets a disillusioned young man named Sexton Furnival (Colin Morgan) and tries to help him reconcile his recent suicidal feelings.
So why was this story — one that doesn’t even include the titular character — chosen as the last piece fans will get of this version of “The Sandman,” following the 11-episode second and final season?...

Anu Valia’s feature directorial debut “We Strangers” not only premiered at SXSW 2024, but soon became a critically acclaimed hit — even earning the coveted IndieWire Critics’ Pick title after its debut.
Now, with Quiver Distribution releasing the feature, audiences everywhere can experience the twisty genre-bender that is billed as being “Get Out” with a psychic twist. Kirby Howell-Baptiste stars as Rayelle Martin, a savvy commercial cleaner who soon realizes that there is more money to be had after privately working for one of her office clients (Hari Dhillon). Yet Rayelle’s ambition may have unforeseen consequences…
The official synopsis reads: “Inspired by director Valia’s own childhood in Gary, Indiana, where the film is set, ‘We Strangers’ follows Rayelle (Howell-Baptiste), a young commercial cleaning woman who is offered a second job cleaning the homes of several rich, suburban families. The second season of The Sandman is technically over, finished off with the aptly-named “A Tale of Graceful Endings” that showed us what the future looks like for the Dreaming and the Endless: A new Dream and a new page, as the Dream we’ve come to know exists the stage like Prospero from The Tempest, the play he himself commissioned to William Shakespeare.
But there’s one final story left for us to explore in the world of The Sandman on the little screen—a bonus episode titled “Death: The High Cost of Living,” which revolves, as the title might suggest, around one of the best characters in the entire show. This would be Death of the Endless, the second-eldest of the siblings, brilliantly played by Kirby Howell-Baptiste.

In The Sandman’s bonus Season 2 episode “Death: The High Cost of Living” — now streaming on Netflix — Death (Kirby Howell-Baptiste) receives the gift of life in order to better understand her job.
Every 100 years, the wise and sensible member of the Endless family is allowed one day to live like a human. The message of the hour is what Death often imparts to those who have passed, showrunner, writer, and executive producer Allan Heinberg noted.
“You get a lifetime, no matter how long you’re here, so make the most of it,” Heinberg explained. “Don’t forget what a privilege it is to be here and how lucky we all are to be here, and don’t take any of it for granted because it could all be over very quickly. It’s definitely wisdom that has been shared again and again, but it’s also wisdom that human beings...

In an unusual move for a Netflix series, the final episode of The Sandman includes a post-credits scene, and it has now been officially released online.
Spoilers follow.
With his realm in danger of being obliterated by the Fates, aka the Furies, aka the Kindly Ones, Morpheus ultimately decides to give his life to save the Dreaming, with Death taking her brother's hand in a flash of light.
When Daniel Hall, the first child conceived in The Dreaming, grows to adulthood in order to fulfil his role as the new Dream Lord, we learn that the character is played by Jacob Anderson.
Are there more stories to tell featuring Daniel? Maybe, but the post-credits sequence is not so much a tease of what's to come as a meditation on Morpheus' arc over the course of the series.

The Sandman has come to an end, but there is still one more story to tell.
The second and final season of Netflix's adaptation of Neil Gaiman's acclaimed DC Comics series concludes with the death of Morpheus and the emergence of another aspect of Dream of the Endless to take his place. While we may yet see more of Daniel at some point (co-creator Allan Heinberg hasn't ruled out the possibility of a third season), the bonus episode that's set to hit the streamer on July 31 will be based on Death: The High Cost of Living.
This spin-off tale was hinted at in a deleted scene from the first season, when Death tells her little brother Morpheus that she used to take human form once every century in an attempt to remain grounded and in touch with humanity.

It has been a fact so far that Netflix’s The Sandman will end with its second season, but co-creator and showrunner Allan Heinberg recently dropped a major bomb in his latest interview with Variety. Stating that he is pretty grateful for the reception they have received so far, he will be glad to make a third season. He remarked:
If they came back tomorrow and said, ‘Let’s do a Season 3,’ I would do it instantly. I would write this show for as long as they would let me. This show feels like all TV shows — like you can do anything. The final episodes of “The Sandman” Season 2 are all about ending one Dream and starting a new one.
After Season 2 Part 1 ended with Dream (Tom Sturridge) killing his son Orpheus (Ruari O’Connor) after being begged to for thousands of years, his choice to spill that family blood sparks the ire of The Kindly Ones. Familicide is a big no-no for the Endless — even when the one dying spent lifetimes asking for it — and the only punishment is death.
“The Sandman” showrunner Allan Heinberg told TheWrap that Dream welcomed his end because coming back from killing your child just isn’t feasible, but he needed to make sure his dream kingdom and its residents were safe before accepting his fate.
“I think he’s in a really tough spot, because once you kill your own son I don’t know how you get over it,” Heinberg said. “I just don’t think you ever do.

Warning: This article contains spoilers for The Sandman season 2, vol. 2.Netflix's The Sandman is almost at an end, and the final episode in the main storyline featured an unexpected cameo to help convey the series' themes of change and rebirth. The showrunner has commented on how lucky the production was to get this cameo, given the actor's busy schedule.
The Sandman season 2, vol. 2 depicts the fallout of Dream's (Tom Sturridge) decision to grant his son Orpheus' (Ruairi O'Connor) request, and end his life, leaving the King of Dreams to face the Kindly Ones in recompense for spilling family blood. Those who have read the comics know that this ultimately leads to the end of existence.

With his realm in danger of being destroyed by the Fates, aka the Furies, aka the Kindly Ones, Morpheus ultimately decides to give his life to save the Dreaming, with Death taking her brother's hand in a flash of light. The Sandman is dead, but another aspect of Dream must replace him: Daniel Hall, a child conceived in The Dreaming.
When the infant Daniel becomes an adult in order to fulfil his role as the new Dream Lord, we learn that the character is played by Jacob Anderson.
"Jacob’s being available was a miracle because I assumed he was busy with Interview with the Vampire," showrunner Allan Heinberg tells THR.

In a most powerful twist of the series, Game of Thrones star Jacob Anderson made a surprise appearance in the final episode of The Sandman season 2. Anderson plays Daniel Hall, Morpheus’s son, who becomes the new Dream of the Endless. His arrival comes right after the death of Morpheus, who sacrificed himself to save the Dreaming.
As the final confrontation nears, Dream (Tom Sturridge) acknowledges that he can no longer continue in his role. He confesses.
I killed my son twice. Once when I would not help him, and once when I did. I knew what I was doing. I knew what the cost would be. The Dreaming is no longer the same…
When Death comes to escort him, Morpheus accepts death. In doing so, he releases his power into Daniel, who transforms into an adult before the eyes of the Dreaming. Dressed in a white robe with a...

[This story contains major spoilers from season two, Vol. 2 of The Sandman.]
In his final episode of The Sandman, Lord Morpheus (Tom Sturridge) a.k.a. Dream of the Endless, the cosmic being who controls all dreams, delivers an ominous warning to his inner circle: “For the realm to survive, for each one of you to survive, any threat to the Dreaming must be destroyed.”
The most immediate threat to the land of dreams was, of course, none other than the supreme leader himself, whose decision to spill family blood by mercifully killing his only son, Orpheus (Ruairi O’Connor), drew the ire of a trio of goddesses known as the Furies. Adapted largely from The Kindly Ones, the penultimate collection of the creator Neil Gaiman’s Sandman comics, the second volume of the Netflix fantasy drama’s final season explores the consequences of Dream’s actions.

The following contains major spoilers for The Sandman Season 2, Episode 11, "A Tale of Graceful Ends," now streaming on Netflix.
The Sandmanshowrunner Allan Heinberg is telling how he kept the Netflix show's biggest twist under wraps. It turns out that Daniel Hall's fate quiet was a team effort.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Heinberg explained how he was able to prevent the big surprise -- that the infant Daniel Hall would become the new Dream -- from being leaked before the finale aired. "Once I found out that [actor Jacob Anderson] was available, we were done," he said. "It was one conversation on Zoom. It was a few months before we shot. If it was like, 'Let's get Jacob in and we're going to start shooting next week,' it might've been more of a thing."

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for The Sandman series finale, “A Tale of Graceful Ends.”] Night falls on Netflix’s The Sandman as Season 2 comes to an end, and with it, at least for the foreseeable future, the live-action version of the Sandman himself. In the finale, “A Tale of Graceful Ends,” Dream (Tom Sturridge) chooses to end his life when he decides to end his son’s endless suffering. After mercy killing his son Orpheus (Ruairi O’Connor) and committing the taboo act of shedding family blood, Dream brings upon himself the wrath of the Kindly Ones, who demand justice, a life for a life. Rather than resist, he accepts his fate and gently takes the hand of his sister Death (Kirby Howell-Baptiste), freeing himself from his duties as the Lord of the Dreaming and allowing a new Dream to take his place. His heir, Daniel Hall (Jacob Anderson), the only being to ever be conceived...

The Sandmanexecutive producer explains just what it means that Morpheus will be getting "rid of those chains" in Season 2.
Speaking to TVLine, The Sandman executive producer and showrunner Allan Heinberg broke down the personal journey that Tom Sturride's Dream, also known as Morpheus, is going on in Season 2, as well as how his siblings' lives have impacted his trajectory as a character. "I think part of the reason he’s so angry at Destruction is that he’s so jealous, and it’s not fair that he has to stay and clean up the mess. They all have to clean up Destruction’s mess," Heinberg explained.
"Dream is utterly defined by his duties and his responsibilities, and I think he longs for a purpose outside his function. There’s something in us that just needs the freedom to try things and be somewhat different and all that stuff. And he’s never done it,...

Netflix's The Sandman is back, and it's as good as ever. Despite being a largely condensed second season—wrapping up the entire saga in just 11 episodes—the team has managed to tell some of the comic's most popular stories.
There are many new characters introduced this time around, from Norse Gods to those of Faerie to the remaining entities that make up the Endless family. For the latter, we've been introduced to Destiny (Adrian Lester), Delirium (Esme Creed-Miles) and Destruction (Barry Sloane).
In the second half of Volume 1, Delirum seeks out Dream (Tom Sturridge) and convinces him to join her on a quest to find Destruction. Delirium is eccentric, surreal, and inherently chaotic. She's the youngest of the Endless siblings, and one of the most mysterious. Many years ago, she used to be Delight, but a change made her into Delirium. This change is one of the comic's biggest mysteries.

Netflix has released the opening scene of The Sandman Season 2, Vol. 2, which begins with Morpheus calling on Destiny to ask his advice on how to deal with The Fur... (sorry ladies), The Kindly Ones, who are now obligated to seek vengeance against the Dream Lord for ending the life of his son, Orpheus, in the Vol. 1 finale.
Destiny already urged his brother to abandon his quest to find Destruction, knowing full well where Dream's actions would ultimately lead.

The Sandman's showrunner is opening up on why the show is ending after just two seasons and not for the reasons you'd expect!
Comic book adaptations on TV can be hit or miss for some projects. For every big success like the Arrowverse, there are multiple failures. The Sandman was an instant success when it debuted on Netflix in 2023, thanks in part to its rich source material.
The first season adapted the first story arcs of Neil Gaiman's acclaimed, award-winning DC/Vertigo Comics title that ran from 1989 to 1996. A century after being trapped in a prison, Morpheus, aka Dream of the Endless (Tom Sturridge), escapes and soon goes on a quest to reclaim his place and power as lord of dreams.
The show was a payoff to years of development hell that included a couple of failed movie adaptations. It was a monster success for Netflix to gain a second season.

[This story contains major spoilers from season two, volume one of The Sandman, as well as from the comics.]
At the start of the second season of Netflix’s hit fantasy drama series The Sandman, the Fates — a trio of goddesses consisting of the Maiden (Dinita Gohil), the Mother (Nina Wadia) and the Crone (Souad Faress) — delivered an ominous, ambiguous prophecy to the eldest Endless sibling, Destiny (Adrian Lester): “A king will forsake his kingdom. Life and death will clash and fray. The oldest battle begins once more.”
That prophecy will seemingly be fulfilled by the Sandman himself a.k.a. Dream of the Endless (Tom Sturridge), the powerful cosmic being who controls all dreams. After reclaiming the powers he had previously lost in captivity, destroying the dangerous dream vortex and unmaking the Corinthian at the end of the first season, the moody Morpheus has been quietly rebuilding his kingdom, the Dreaming, with an eye towards the future. The first ten episodes (plus a bonus) of The Sandman did a wonderful job of adapting the first few stories of the original ’90s comic-book series. They brought the ultragothy Dream (Tom Sturridge) and a few of his ‘Endless’ siblings to vivid and convincing life, in a season which literally took us to Hell and back, but was rooted firmly in the ‘Waking World’ of Planet Earth. However, this second – and notably “final” – season has far trickier source narratives to negotiate. It pulls us further away from the reassurance of the everyday and deeper into the realms of gods, demons and anthropomorphic manifestations of human experience, as the rest of Dream’s family join the party.

The Sandman Season 2, Volume 2 arrives on Netflix on July 24, and the streamer has now released a teaser for what will be the final 6 episodes of the series.
Spoilers follow.
In the Vol. 1 finale, Morpheus spilled "Family Blood" when he finally granted his son Orpheus peace centuries after his body was torn to pieces by the Maenads. This act incurs the wrath of The Kindly Ones, who are now within their rights to exact vengeance again the Dream Lord and lay waste to the Dreaming in the process.
During a recent interview with Tudum, Tom Sturridge weighed-in on Morpheus' decision to end his son's life and the fact that he was fully aware of the ramifications.
“Dream knows what is going to happen, and he knows the price that will be paid. [He’s] ultimately doing something beautiful and giving his son the most important thing. But the consequences are so enormous that it is a great burden.

Rebuilding a kingdom of infinite possibility, it turns out, was the simple part. After the restorative work of the first season, Dream of the Endless (Tom Sturridge) finds his most significant task is not external construction but internal demolition. The real rot is within. A family gathering—the kind of cosmically dysfunctional affair that makes mortal squabbles look quaint—serves as the catalyst, forcing Morpheus to confront a wrong he committed ten millennia ago. This sends him on a bleak pilgrimage to Hell to free his former lover, Queen Nada, from a damnation of his own making.
That personal quest for absolution quickly spirals into a second, more enigmatic journey: a search for his estranged brother, Destruction, who long ago abandoned his post.

One of the most immersive and brilliantly written fantasy shows of recent times has to be Netflix’s The Sandman and while it is coming to an end with its second season because of some behind-the-scenes controversies, fans are still looking forward to the upcoming batch of episodes. Based on the DC comic book of the same name by Neil Gaiman, Sam Kieth, and Mike Dringenberg, the Netflix series was developed by Gaiman, David S. Goyer, and Allan Heinberg.
The Sandman 2 continues the story of Lord Morpheus, aka Dream, as his whole kingdom is threatened because of his past actions, forcing him to face and reevaluate his previous decisions and seek absolution for the wrong ones.

The Sandman season 2, Vol. 1 is now streaming on Netflix, and critics have been sharing their verdicts on the first six episodes of what will be our final visit to The Dreaming since the embargo lifted earlier today.
After initially generating a perfect 100% Rotten Tomatoes score when the first few reviews hit, Vol. 1 has now dropped to 75% based on 16 write-ups. That score is likely to fluctuate, but the consensus seems to be that this adaptation of the later storylines from Neil Gaiman's seminal saga doesn't quite match up to the first season.
Mileage is almost certain to vary depending on whether you're a fan of the source material, which some of the more negative reviews pretty much use as the basis of their criticism.

“The Sandman” returns to Netflix for a split second and final season; six episodes debut July 3 and the back six drop later in the month.
This may be a bit frustrating for the bingers out there, but take it from someone who’s seen the first half dozen: they have more than enough profound themes, character developments and batshit oddities to savor and ponder for weeks to come.
Neil Gaiman’s comic book demi-god Morpheus, aka Dream of the Endless, is again played with a somnambulant soulfulness by Tom Sturridge. Having reclaimed his magic accoutrements and mystical Dreaming kingdom after a long imprisonment in Season 1, the master of all our sleeping states now spends much of his time realizing that he’s never been a very good person. Tomorrow, Netflix will drop new episodes of The Sandman, based on the comic book series by Neil Gaiman. It'll drop another more new episodes later in the month, followed by one last episode after that, and then the series will be over.
The show is ending sooner than fans would like — they're going to have to cut a lot of material from the comics to tell the rest of the story in one season — but if the second season of The Sandman is as good as the first, we can at least hope for a fun ride. At one point, Netflix was filling out a whole cinematic universe based on The Sandman; another show, Dead Boy Detectives, had roots in the comics. But Dead Boy Detectives only lasted one season before Netflix made like Netflix and axed it.

The first six episodes of the second and final season of The Sandman will be available to stream from tomorrow, and Netflix has now released a pair of new clips.
The first sets up Dream's inevitable confrontation with Lucifer, as Cain delivers a message to the ruler of Hell: Morpheus is returning to the underworld to free Nada, with or without permission.

On the heels of the full trailer for the second and final season of The Sandman, Netflix has released a new social media teaser spotlighting the seven members of the Endless family: Dream, Death, Destiny, Despair, Desire, Delirium and Destruction.
We met most of these characters in season 1, but the season 2 premiere will feature the debuts of Esme Creed-Miles as the unpredictable Delirium, Adrian Lester as the all-knowing Destiny, and Barry Sloane as Destruction, who grows weary of his responsibilities and abandons his post.
This final storyline begins with the Endless meeting for a family gathering for the first time in many years, with a seemingly throwaway insult from Desire setting Morpheus on a path back to Hell.
Check out the new teaser below, along with some new behind-the-scenes stills.
