"Brought in to fix NASAs public image, sparks fly in all directions as marketing wunderkind Kelly Jones wreaks havoc on launch director Cole Daviss already difficult task. When the President deems the mission too important to fail, Jones is directed to stage a fake moon landing as back-up and the countdown truly begins"

Sasha: Scarlett Johansson and Greg Berlanti to produce psychological thriller
Image
Directed by Greg Berlanti and produced by star Scarlett Johansson, the romantic dramedy Fly Me to the Moon was originally meant to be released directly to the Apple TV+ streaming service, but strong test screenings inspired Sony to give the film a theatrical release first. The movie isn’t setting the box office on fire, having pulled in just $20 million worldwide during its first week of release, but it will be heading to Apple TV+ soon anyway – and Berlanti and Johansson were able to establish a strong working relationship during the making of the film. That’s a working relationship they’re now set to continue with a psychological thriller called Sasha, and Deadline reports that Amazon MGM Studios has come out the winner of a five-way auction to land the rights to the project.

Berlanti will be producing Sasha alongside Sarah Schechter and Mike McGrath for Berlanti Schechter Films,...

Fly Me To The Moon – Review
Image
Yes, I see that title and I immediately picture “ole’ blue eyes”, a trench coat draped over a shoulder, crooning that catchy 1954 Bart Howard classic. And that’s just what the producers want to evoke, to get you in a nostalgic mood for a frothy romance set against the backdrop of the “space race”. Mission accomplished, but could a “rom-com” really work against the somber historical backdrop we’ve seen in heavy, serious films like First Man, A Million Miles Away, Hidden Figures, Apollo 13, and the HBO miniseries, “From the Earth to the Moon”.Now, that’s the trick, much like the possible results facing NASA, Will it blast off or crash land? But it’s “star power” rather than rocket fuel that propels Fly Me To The Moon.

Modern movie audiences need a short primer on events 55 years ago, and the filmmakers provide a brief one for the film’s prologue,...

‘Fly Me to the Moon’ Star Channing Tatum Recalls Filming at Kennedy Space Center, First Day on Set With Scarlett Johansson: I ‘Immediately Started Making Fun of Her Wig’
Image
Channing Tatum can’t recall the first scene he and Scarlett Johansson filmed together for “Fly Me to the Moon.” He does, however, remember where they first met: at a table read for the romantic comedy.

Although Tatum and Johansson were both involved in the films “Don Jon” and “Hail, Caeser!,” the two actors “never crossed paths,” as Tatum puts it, until “Fly Me to the Moon.”

“I remember us going down right after the table read to go into hair and makeup and start to try to figure out our look for the movie — it’s period and everything — and she was trying to figure out her wig for the movie,” Tatum told Variety at the “Fly Me to the Moon” premiere in New York City on Monday night. “I just immediately started making fun of her wig. I was like, you’re gonna wear that? Is that like...

“You’re not coming back to this set ever again”: Scarlett Johansson Left Taika Waititi Stunned After ‘Thor 4’ Director Went Out of Ideas While Writing a Scene
Image
Scarlett Johansson is certainly one of the most accomplished A-list actresses in the industry with several hits and accolades throughout her career. The actress has balanced her films with the right amount of franchise blockbusters and character-driven dramas that have shown her versatility as an actor. After doing big Marvel films, she makes sure to do dramas like Marriage Story and Jojo Rabbit.

Taika Waititi plays a highly exaggerated version of Hitler in Jojo Rabbit | Fox Searchlight Pictures

The latter was a collaborative effort involving her and fellow Marvel star Taika Waititi who is also a talented filmmaker. The director encountered a creative standstill during one of the scenes while the crew and actors were waiting for the shot. However, instead of getting restless and complaining, Johansson’s class act won the respect of the director.

‘Fly Me to the Moon’ Review: Greg Berlanti’s Space Age Rom-Com Gets Far on Star Chemistry
Image
Greg Berlanti’s high-concept rom-com Fly Me to the Moon emphasizes the optimism of the Space Race while also regarding the militaristic motives behind early space exploration with a jaundiced, decidedly modern perspective. It opens at the top of 1969, with NASA having less than a year to make good on John F. Kennedy’s 1961 promise to get astronauts to the moon before the end of the decade. With the Apollo program seemingly stalled out and congressional enthusiasm for the space program waning, certain government agencies decide to rejuvenate public interest and secure further federal funding to ensure that the Soviet Union, following a string of spaceflight achievements, doesn’t again embarrass the U.S.

To do so, a mysterious official, Moe (Woody Harrelson), recruits Madison Avenue marketing executive Kelly Jones (Scarlett Johansson) to mount a PR campaign on NASA’s behalf, and to the bafflement of the space agency’s...

‘Fly Me to the Moon’ trailer lets Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum play among the stars [Watch]
Image
“Fly Me to the Moon,” a Space Race-set romantic comedy starring two-time Oscar nominee Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum, is about to blast off. On Monday, Apple TV+ released a trailer for the film, which lands on screens this summer via a distribution deal with Sony Pictures.

“Fly Me to the Moon” tells a fictitious story set in the late ‘60s during the lead-up to the Moon Landing. Johansson, who also serves as a producer, stars as Kelly Jones, a marketing mastermind hired by NASA to improve the space program’s image. She has professional and romantic tension with Cole Davis (Tatum), a by-the-book launch commander. Things get really wild when Jones is ordered to film a fake moon landing, just in case the real one doesn’t work. And yes, there is a Stanley Kubrick joke.

The film was originally called “Project Artemis” – which is an actual, totally...

NASA’s Apollo 11 Moon Landing Is The Real Star Of Fly Me To The Moon Trailer
Image
On the morning of July 16, 1969, Apollo 11 astronauts Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins sat atop another Saturn V at Launch Complex 39A at the Kennedy Space Center. The three-stage 363-foot rocket used its 7.5 million pounds of thrust to propel them into space and into history.

On July 20, 1969, at 10:56 p.m. Edt, Armstrong planted the first human foot on another world. With more than half a billion people watching on television, he climbed down the ladder and proclaimed: “That’s one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.”

And now some 55 years later, NASA is preparing to send people back to the lunar surface. Scheduled for September 2025, the Artemis II flight test will be NASA’s first mission with crew under Artemis and will pave the way to land the first woman and next man on the Moon on Artemis III. Astronauts on their first flight...

Before she (reportedly) heads off to Jurassic City, Scarlett Johansson has a pit stop to make; the moon.

Take a look at the trailer.

It’s all in good fun, but there is a disturbing amount of theories about the moon landing being fake, so the film’s premise is certainly a juicy one.

Here’s the official synopsis: Starring Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum, Fly Me To The Moon is a sharp, stylish comedy-drama set against the high-stakes backdrop of NASA’s historic Apollo 11 moon landing. Brought in to fix NASA’s public image,...

‘Fly Me to the Moon’ Trailer: Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum Fake the Moon Landing for NASA in 1969 Romantic-Comedy
Image
Sony and Apple have released the first trailer for “Fly Me to the Moon,” a romantic comedy starring Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum, which is set to premiere on July 12. The film is set against the 1960s space race and features Johansson as a marketing exec hired by NASA to film a fake moon landing in case the real mission fails. Apple won the project in a $100 million deal following a bidding war in 2022, and the project was formerly known as “Project Artemis.”

Chris Evans was first set to play Tatum’s role, while Oscar nominee Johansson — who also produces — has been attached to the film since its inception. Jason Bateman was originally set as the film’s director but left the project due to creative differences. His exit altered the shooting schedule and meant Evans could not complete the project and Netflix’s “Pain Hustlers” at the same time.

Scarlett Johansson Reunites with Jonathan Glazer for Meta Shakespearean Prada Ad — Watch
Image
Ten years since “Under the Skin,” auteur Jonathan Glazer has reunited with muse Scarlett Johansson.

The collaborative duo first worked together on the 2014 sci-fi noir. Newly-minted Oscar winner Glazer, who recently helmed Best International Feature “The Zone of Interest,” directs Johansson in a Prada advertisement to promote the brand’s Galleria bag collection.

Johansson is captured struggling to recite lines from Shakespeare’s “Antony and Cleopatra” and “Macbeth” during a screen test. As tensions rise, Johansson’s frustrations give way to a memorable performance captured by the cameras on set, including her crying in exalted relief. The advertisement is mostly in black and white, but shifts to color as Johansson leaves the studio and sheds her actress persona to return to her real life; while carrying a Prada bag, she hails a taxi.

“The campaign is a celebration of technique, an ode to the mechanism of acting as the true...

Sony secures dates for newly acquired Wolfs and Project Artemis
Image
Earlier, it had been reported that Sony had made a deal with Apple Films in which the studio got to distribute two high-profile movies globally before getting settled at its home on the Apple TV+ app. Sony arose as the victor in a bidding war for the two films — Wolfs, starring Oceans trilogy buddies George Clooney and Brad Pitt, and Project Artemis, which features Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum (although now it is being reported that the title may change). The acquisitions mirror a similar distributing deal Sony has with Apple for Ridley Scott‘s recent historical epic, Napoleon, which gave the movie a release on November 22 with a 45-day theatrical window.

According to Deadline, Sony has now found the dates that the studio plans to release the films and start their theatrical window. Project Artemis is now slated to hit theaters on July 12, 2024, while Wolfs is now ready to...

As we head into 2024, the slate of Apple Originals headed for theatrical releases continues to expand and boy are we thankful for it.

Whilst there will be plenty of people happy to watch Napoleon and Killers of the Flower Moon at home (with self-decided intermissions) there are lots of movie lovers who want to enjoy these films in a cinema. Thankfully, Apple Studios seems to have made a firm commitment to pleasing this sizeable contingent: we know that the Brad Pitt Formula 1 film will be the jewel in Apple’s 2024 crown (if it does release next year) and that is definitely coming to cinemas.

There’s more though: thanks to The Hollywood Reporter, we know now that another two major...

Sony gains global distribution rights of Apple films Wolfs with George Clooney & Brad Pitt and Project Artemis with Scarlett Johansson & Channing Tatum
Image
Two films with big names from Apple were up for bidding, and Sony has now risen as the victor. Deadline reports that Sony has won the global distribution of Wolfs, a feature starring Ocean’s Eleven buddies George Clooney and Brad Pitt, and Project Artemis, which features Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum. The acquisitions mirror a similar distributing deal Sony has with Apple for Ridley Scott‘s recent historical epic, Napoleon, which stars Joaquin Phoenix and Vanessa Kirby and is sailing toward $200 million worldwide from its distribution deal with Sony.

The similar distribution pact with both movies will give them a window of screening in theaters worldwide before settling on the AppleTV+ streaming service. Apple developed and produced the films. Napoleon‘s deal gave the movie a release on November 22 with a 45-day theatrical window. The movies have yet to have their theatrical release dates set. However, with the delay of...

Sony Wins Global Theatrical Distribution Deal For Apple’s George Clooney & Brad Pitt Pic ‘Wolfs’ & Scarlett Johansson & Channing Tatum’s ‘Project Artemis’
Image
Exclusive: Sony Pictures Entertainment in a competitive situation has won the theatrical distribution deals for two mega Apple Original Films movies –the George Clooney and Brad Pitt feature Wolfs and the Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum title Project Artemis.

The news comes on the heels of Apple Original Films’ Ridley Scott-directed Napoleon rolling toward $200M worldwide via its distribution pact with Sony.

Both movies, developed and produced by Apple Original Films, will receive a global theatrical window before streaming worldwide on AppleTV+. Napoleon opened on Nov. 22 and has a 45-day theatrical window. While no theatrical release date has been set for Wolfs and Project Artemis, it would not be shocking if both land 2024 spots in an exhibition marketplace that’s starving for project.

The deal also returns Spider-Man franchise filmmaker Jon Watts, who is the director of Wolfs, to the Sony Culver City studio which saw his Spider-Man: No Way Home...

‘Purlie Victorious’ Broadway Review: Leslie Odom Jr. Keeps Ossie Davis’ Groundbreaking Comedy True To Its Title
Image
Long before Slave Play, decades before Ain’t No Mo, there was Purlie Victorious, the Ossie Davis comedy masterwork that, like those descendant plays, fused broad comedy, satirical minstrelsy, racial satire and still-relevant social commentary to create a play that is so encompassing in its views of history and legacy, so generous in its humanity and pinpoint sharp in its take on debts long owed and now demanded that Kenny Leon’s revival, opening tonight on Broadway, feels as current and bracing as a folding chair.

More about that folding chair later.

Starring a magnificent Leslie Odom, Jr., in the title role, and featuring equally fine performances by an enchanting Kara Young, Billy Eugene Jones, Vanessa Bell Calloway and more, Purlie Victorious – full title (and one of the few signifiers of its 1961-era creation): Purlie Victorious: A Non-Confederate Romp Through the Cotton Patch – has been given an urgent – and,...
