Ziegler and Miller are joined in the cast by Sofia Wylie (The Map That Leads to You), Lyon Daniels (The Spiderwick Chronicles), Alexander Ludwig (Earth Abides), Ross Butler (Shazam! Fury of the Gods), Alicia Witt (Longlegs), and Oscar nominee Greg Kinnear (As Good As It Gets), as well as Iman Vellani. She has also voiced the character for the upcoming animated series Marvel Zombies.

What were you like when you were 18 years old, high on the feeling that your life was a blank canvas spread out in front of you, and you could throw whatever paint splatters you wanted on it? Maybe, like Elliott (Maisy Stella), the hero of My Old Ass, you were literally high on more than a feeling, courtesy of some mushrooms that her best friends Ro (Kerrice Brooks) and Ruthie (Maddie Ziegler) procured. It’s the summer before she’s leaving her rural hometown in the backwoods of Ontario for...

As we enter into the Fall movie season, it’s time for an intimate lil’ “indie” that explores a theme that several blockbusters have also explored, time travel. Now this one isn’t focusing on the travel and his gadgets and gizmos aplenty, so we don’t get those “Pym Particles” or even that super-charged DeLorean. The intriguing premise presented here is a spin on “what if”, namely the Twilight Zone dream of getting a “drop in’ from your future self. And somehow this “out there” idea meshes with a coming of age dramatics, and a “rom-com”. It’s a challenging “balancing act” that is somehow propped up by a crude and quirky cellphone contact entered in as My Old Ass, and we’re not talking about a donkey.
Rather than starting in a long-ago time, this story is set in the modern day, just across the Canadian border. Elliot...

Gen Z can be particularly hard to please, but 38-year-old Megan Park may have cracked the code.
The director behind “The Fallout” tackled a new coming-of-age story in “My Old Ass,” one that took her back to her roots in Canada on Lake Joseph.
The film follows Elliott (Maisy Stella) as she tries cherishing her last summer before heading to college, but happens to encounter her 39-year-old self, played by Aubrey Plaza. Park’s sophomore film centers Gen Z in a way that feels genuine to this era, something she noticed was missing as a young actress.
“I, for many years, was an actor in front of the camera when I was a teenager, and telling stories that didn’t always feel authentic to what my generation was experiencing or wearing or saying, and nobody ever asked me my opinion,” Park told TheWrap. She wanted to change that when she...

When her and Ro indulge in a psychedelic mushroom trip, Elliott’s older 39-year-old self (Aubrey Plaza) emerges through the trippy portal to confront young E and steer her life path. One piece of advice given? … avoid at all costs a guy named Chad (Percy Hynes White). Despite this, a meet-cute happens with, you guessed it, Chad. While the film My Old Ass may present itself as a goofy comedy exploring what it would be like to be a coming-of-age teenager meeting an older version of herself, it is instead a more existential and heartfelt drama that explores the choices that shape our lives and whether those choices should be second-guessed, ignored, or blindly followed.
On her eighteenth birthday, Elliot (Maisy Stella) embarks on a weekend camping trip with two friends – Ruthie (Maddie Ziegler) and Ro (Kerrice Brooks) – wherein they, among other typical girl’s night out fare, partake of some hallucinogenic mushrooms that bring Maisy face-to-face with her 39-year-old self (played by Aubrey Plaza) who blatantly warns her to stay away from a mysterious boy named Chad that she has never met. Then, of course, the next day, she meets Chad and the advice doesn’t seem as unbelievable as it did just one day earlier.

Life is, so often, not at all like the movies. It’s not even like TV. There was no lightbulb moment, no ah-ha! that made actress Megan Park decide to move behind the camera for the next creative and professional chapter of her life. In fact, during her early days acting on shows like “The Secret Life of the American Teenager” and “Life with Derek,” Park said she remembered thinking, “I would never want to be a director.”
But while one part of Park might’ve thought “no, never,” what she was really doing was filing away the things she didn’t want to do when it came time to direct. During a recent interview with IndieWire in lower Manhattan in the weeks before the release of her second directorial effort, the Sundance hit “My Old Ass,” Park reflected on some of the earlier lessons that shaped her into such a wonderful chronicler of young,...

Most of you would love to be able to converse with your future or former selves. I know I would. That brings us to My Old Ass. This charming and occasionally heartbreaking flick tells the story of a girl named Elliott (Maisy Stella) and her 39-year-old self, played by Aubrey Plaza. It’s a terrific feature from the very talented filmmaker Megan Park. It’s a bright, honest, bold story that offers Stella the chance to shine in the leading role. The actress is stunning in an authentic and emotional take on a young woman discovering herself. As for the wonderfully funny Plaza, she gave another one of her terrific performances. When covering interviews, frequently, the talent sets the mood. And the mood for the My Old Ass interviews was celebratory. Megan Park, along with Maisy Stella – who I remember as Connie Britton’s daughter in Nashville. Yes, I watched...

Growing up sucks. Time seems to move faster than we can reasonably keep pace with, the crushing disappointment of reality never quite lives up to our naïve expectations, and even the fondest of memories can fade and turn into deep wells of regret. None of these are particularly profound observations for anyone legally old enough to drink, and they're certainly nothing that countless movies haven't already addressed in every conceivable way. So when yet another R-rated coming-of-age dramedy pops up on the radar -- centered on the well-worn trope of an idealistic 18-year-old relishing her last summer at home before moving away to bigger and better things in the city -- a healthy dose of skepticism would appear to be fair game. Even a talent like Megan Park, whose directorial debut "The Fallout" instantly made her a name worth paying attention to, would be hard-pressed to wring anything new out of this premise.

In Megan Park’s My Old Ass, Elliott (Maisy Stella) celebrates her 18th birthday by wandering off to a nearby forest with her two besties, Ro (Kerrice Brooks) and Ruthie (Maddie Ziegler), to do mushrooms. Meanwhile, her deflated parents (Maria Dizzia and Alain Goulem) look sorrowfully at the surprise birthday cake they prepared for her, wondering how much they’ll see of their daughter before she heads off to college in three weeks. It’s not that Elliott doesn’t love her family, or even her annoying brothers, Max (Seth Isaac Johnson) and Spencer (Carter Trozzolo), but the queer spitfire is yearning to break free—and to have the sorts of experiences that aren’t possible in the small Canadian town in which she was raised.
Refreshingly for a film that centers on a queer person, expressing her queerness isn’t among the experiences that Elliott can’t have here,...

It’s a cliché that teenagers feel awkward about their bodies, growing up – that they worry that they’re different from others. Sometimes, though, it’s true. And whilst most differences are nothing like as big a deal as they imagine, mainstream society’s taboos around sex and gender mean that any variation in that area can reshape one’s whole life.
Lindy (Maddie Ziegler) is 16 but still hasn’t got her period. She’s not too worried, knowing that it comes late for some people, though she does find the fuss made by her mother, Rita (Emily Hampshire) annoying, and she lies about it to best friend Vivian (Djouliet Amara) because she just wants to fit in. Although Rita is a single mother who has recently recovered from breast cancer, Lindy’s life is pretty good. She’s happy at school and the mutual crush she shares with classmate...

With the momentum of stardom in her favor after Netflix’s Wednesday and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Jenna Ortega will surely take on more Hollywood projects following Season 2 of Wednesday, which is currently in production.
Before these two Tim Burton projects, Ortega had roles in several other Netflix films and a television show as well as separate feature films. She got her start in a Colgate toothpaste commercial and then a Disney Channel show that mirrored the aspect of her big family.
Some might recognize Ortega as the actress who portrayed the younger version of Jane Gloriana Villanueva (portrayed by Gina Rodriguez when she’s older) in the CW’s Jane the Virgin. She also appeared in Studio 666 a horror film in which the Foo Fighters move into a storied rock ‘n roll studio that starts to haunt their work. Most recently right before the arrival of Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice in theaters,...

Writer-director Molly McGlynn’s own experience adds a new dimension to the usual tropes of virginity loss, relationships and high school politics
Older viewers may feel, well, erm, old, to see that this film comes prefaced with a wise statement – handed down as if ’twere written on tablets of stone – from the 2009 film Jennifer’s Body. (Wasn’t 2009 about four years ago?) Portentously proclaiming “Hell is a teenage girl”, it’s an apt little quote to kick off this neatly done teen movie, which unusually throws a rare biological condition into the typical mix of virginity loss, relationship drama and high school politics. Our lead Lindy (Maddie Ziegler) discovers, after a routine medical appointment, that she does not have a uterus or vaginal canal deeper than “a vaginal dimple”, making the prospect of first-time sex with her dreamy boyfriend Adam (D’Pharaoh Woon-a-Tai) more than usually anxiety-making.

Are ballerina dancers Hollywood’s new hotness? With the John Wick spinoff Ballerina, starring Ana de Armas, pirouetting into theaters next year and the latest indie action film Ballerina Overdrive coming from 87North and Gulfstream Pictures, it could be time for me to slip into a tutu and show my sweet moves to some studios heads. While I will likely keep stretching along a long bar, Uma Thurman is joining the cast of Ballerina Overdrive, an upcoming survivalist action film.
Uma Thurman joins Lana Condor, Iris Apatow, Millicent Simmonds, Maddie Ziegler, and Avantika. Previously, Lena Headey, Yara Shahidi, and Isabela Merced were supposed to star in Ballerina Overdrive but have since stepped away.
Vicky Jewson directs Ballerina Overdrive from a script by Kate Freund. The plot revolves around a troupe of ballerinas who find themselves fighting for survival as they attempt to escape from a remote inn after their bus...

As film festival season begins to wrap up, film buffs await the theatrical and streaming releases of the films that premiered at festivals, such as Sundance and Cannes. While some of the bigger film festivals have begun prep for next season, other smaller festivals are still going strong in their own right. I had the opportunity to attend NewFest Pride in New York City, an LGBTQ+ film festival, marking the beginning of Pride Month. While looking through the different options of films to attend, ‘My Old Ass’ stuck out to me, as I recognized director, Megan Park’s name from ‘The Fallout’. ‘The Fallout’ is a hidden gem film, winning the Narrative Feature category at South by Southwest in 2021. While both films are incredibly different, ‘My Old Ass’ still features unintentional comedy and messages about living life to the fullest that ‘The Fallout’ portrayed as well. ‘My Old Ass’ originally...

Pittsburgh-based choreographer Abby Lee Miller rose to fame on the Lifetime series, Dance Moms. Over the course of eight seasons, she trained and helped several young dancers rise to stardom — even if she was incredibly cruel and abrasive onscreen.
Among the most famous of the dancers are Maddie Ziegler and JoJo Siwa.
Although the original Dance Moms series ended several years ago, Abby Lee Miller still thinks about the young dancers often. Now, she’s shedding light on JoJo Siwa’s early days in the rehearsal room.

Abby Lee Miller may not be as active in the public eye as she once was. However, many are still eager to keep up with her and pick her brain. She recently appeared on an episode of The Unplanned Podcast to discuss her cancer battle, prison stay, and so much more.

Ethnobotanist and mystic Terrance McKenna would be proud of Maisy Stella’s Elliot as she consumes a “heroic dose” of dried psilocybin mushroom tea in Megan Park’s My Old Ass trailer. To Elliot’s credit, she and her friends went to nature for their psychedelic trip, which is the recommended venue. What Elliot did not account for was meeting her older self (Aubrey Plaza), creating an existential nightmare and providing insight into her future. Science fiction teaches us never to interact with our future or past selves, lest we make a universe-imploding paradox. Still, Elliot’s story ignores all that and deepens the dos and don’ts of growing up strange.

Aubrey Plaza is turning back the clock on heartbreak in lovable queer dramedy “My Old Ass.”
The coming-of-age feature stars breakout actress Maisy Stella as 18-year-old Elliott, who is spending her final summer on her parents’ cranberry farm before she heads to college in Toronto. After a drug trip gone awry, Elliott is visited by the older version of herself (Plaza), who warns her to not fall in love with a visiting boy (“Wednesday” alum Percy Hynes White) working on her dad’s farm.
Megan Park (“The Fallout”) writes and directs the feature that centers on Elliott’s awakening into adulthood. Margot Robbie produces the indie film, along with Tom Ackerley, Josey McNamara, and Steven Rales.
Sia collaborator and “Dance Moms” alum Maddie Ziegler and Kerrice Brooks co-star. And yes, this isn’t Plaza’s first time, well, time traveling: the actress previously starred in Colin Trevorrow’s “Safety Not Guaranteed.

Alice on her visit to Wonderland said: “I give myself very good advice but I very seldom follow it.” First-time director Megan Park also takes her young protagonist on a trip of a different sort to explore this idea - only the advice Elliott (Maisy Stella) is giving to herself comes not from her current self, but the 39-year-old version (Aubrey Plaza).
The younger Elliott is about to head to college, enjoying the last few days on her family’s cranberry farm and, like most people her age, mostly concerned with starting her new life away from the place and enjoying the last few make-out sessions with her barista girlfriend (Alexandra Riviera). Things get interesting when she heads out to an island with her mates Ruthie (Maddie Ziegler) and Ro (Kerrice Brooks) for a shroom session. That’s when she has a strange encounter with the “old ass” incarnation of herself.

Abby Lee Miller may feel that what she’s done for the young dancers is beautiful – “they know they would never be where they are today if it wasn’t for the show” in her own words – but the kids apparently don’t feel the same way.
While it’s weird that a reunion for ‘Dance Moms’ should happen without the Og dance coach, it’s totally understandable when you remember the amount of pressure she put on those little kids to perform at the time.

Abby Lee Miller is speaking out after she wasn’t asked back for Lifetime’s recent Dance Moms reunion.
The former star of the reality series stopped by the Just B with Bethenny Frankel podcast to share her thoughts on being left out of the special.
“I think the kids can’t face me because they know they would never be where they are today if it wasn’t for the show,” Miller dished to the former Real Housewives of New York star.
Dance Moms originally aired from 2011-19 and focused on the Abby Lee Dance Company (Aldc).
The long-running reality TV series charted the competition team as they learned their dance routines and competed nationwide.
“There’s two little girls named Brooke and Paige Hyland who I was very close to, much closer emotionally and family wise than any of the other kids,” Miller recalled.

On Wednesday, May 1, ‘Dance Moms: The Reunion’ special aired on Lifetime, and while there were a lot of drama happening right on our screens, Jojo Siwa is now telling us that the drama didn’t end there. Okay.
Jojo Siwa Claims ‘Dance Moms: The Reunion’ Producers Tried To Stir Drama Between Cast Members
While Jojo Siwa may want to stir online drama with her looks and music, she does not want it to exist between her and her fellow co-stars. And yet that’s exactly what the producers of ‘Dance Moms: The Reunion’ wanted her to do on the show.
“There was a few times on the reunion where the producers tried to do some shady s**t,” she recalled, adding that she felt producers wanted unnecessary drama to exist between her and her fellow former stars — Kalani Hilliker, Kendall Vertes, Chloé Lukasiak, Paige Hyland, and Brooke Hyland.

Fresh off the reunion, there’s now a Dance Moms wedding on the way! Brooke Hyland, one of the show’s original cast members, is engaged to boyfriend Brian Thalman, People confirmed. Thalman popped the question in Hyland’s hometown of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He proposed in Frick Park as their loved ones watched the romantic moment unfold from a distance.
