Brazil’s Caru Alves de Souza, a Berlin Crystal Bear winner for “My Name is Baghdad,” will unveil new movie project “A City for Christine” at Spain’s Malaga Festival where it weighs in as one of the highlights at its industry centrepiece strand, the Málaga Festival Fund Co-Production Event (Maff).

“A City for Christine” is written by Alves de Souza, selected as one of Variety’s Brazil: 10 Next Gen Talents to Track, and Nara Marinho, who teamed for the Berlin 2025-selected “Underage,” the series expansion on Alves de Souza’s 2013 feature debut of the same title.

The lead role of Christine will be played by Karina Buhr, a Brazilian singer-songwriter and percussionist who starred in “My Name is Baghdad,” a best film winner at Berlin’s 2020 Generation 14plus sidebar.

“A City for Christine” (“Uma cidade para Christine”) also unites Alves de Souza and Rafaella Costa, founder of Manjericão Filmes...

Jomoro, the duo of Atoms for Peace drummer Joey Waronker and percussionist Mauro Refosco, teamed up with Sharon Van Etten for their song “Nest,” the latest single off the group’s album Blue Marble Sky.

“‘Nest’ started for us as an instrumental, reflecting a style Mauro and I developed playing together over the years, especially with Atoms for Peace,” Waronker said in a statement. “It was, for us, an exercise in working with a more ambient overall sound. I kept thinking of Sharon when I listened to it and finally...

Benedict Cumberbatch in The Imitation Game (2014)
‘The Imitation Game’ Will Stuff Theaters This Holiday Weekend – Specialty Box Office Preview
Benedict Cumberbatch in The Imitation Game (2014)
The Weinstein Company’s The Imitation Game is the big kid on the block among this holiday weekend’s batch of newcomers. The title is following in the footsteps of past TWC heavyweights The King’s Speech and The Artist, both of which opened to solid box office numbers and eventually scored Oscars for Best Picture. The distributor is expecting good numbers for Imitation Game over the Thanksgiving frame. IFC Films’ horror pic The Babadook has some good buzz heading into the weekend, though it might show its biggest heft via VOD with its day-and-date rollout. Remote Area Medical is one of those films one hopes everyone will see. Timed perfectly for this time of the year’s focus on thanks and giving, the documentary shows the underbelly of America’s healthcare crisis by way of people who provide free medical services to needy people in pop-up clinics around the country.
