Written by Penelope Skinner, Angry Alan sees Krasinski portray the character Roger, a man desperately seeking stability and finding it in the titular fictional internet personality, who spouts conspiracy theories. As Roger’s worldview shifts with Angry Alan’s preachings, his newfound perspective begins to take a toll on his relationships. A one-man performance, Krasinski was immediately taken with the story, telling The New York Theatre Guide, “I think I signed on in the first four pages.”

Krasinski’s last appearance off-Broadway was in 2016 for the drama Dry Powder.

John Krasinski and Wendell Pierce were spotted filming for their upcoming Jack Ryan movie on Sunday (May 4) in New York City.

The two actors are reprising their roles from the Prime Video series Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan for the untitled movie, which is said to be the “next stage evolution of the franchise.”

While on set, John and Wendell were joined by a local New York City icon - Radio Man, aka Craig Castaldo!

It’s unclear if Radio Man was just stopping by for a visit or if he will make a cameo in the movie, like he has done in hundreds of other projects.

Last month, John was also seen filming in London alongside Sienna Miller, who joined the cast in a new role.

John Krasinski will star in the dark comedic play Angry Alan Off-Broadway this June.

The Penelope Skinner play will mark the first production at the Studio Seaview space, which was previously known as the Tony Kiser Theatre. Seaview, the production company behind John Mulaney’s All In: Comedy About Love, Good Night, and Good Luck with George Clooney this season, acquired the theater from the nonprofit theater company Second Stage Theater in January.

Sam Gold, who directed An Enemy of the People and Romeo + Juliet, both produced by Seaview, directs the one-man play. Angry Alan will start performances May 23, ahead of a June 11 opening night. The play is slated for a 10-week engagement.

John Krasinski will return to the Off Broadway stage this May in Angry Alan, Penelope Skinner’s critically acclaimed dark comedy that premiered at the 2018 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Directing will be Sam Gold.

The one-man play, which begins a strictly limited engagement on May 23 with an official opening on Wednesday, June 11, will be the inaugural production of Studio Seaview, the Off Broadway venue owned and operated by the Seaview production company. In recent years, Seaview has become one of the premiere producers of New York stage productions, with recent shows including Romeo + Juliet, Stereophonic and the current, record-setting Good Night, And Good Luck starring George Clooney.

Krasinski most recently appeared Off Broadway in the 2016 Public Theater production of Sarah Burgess’ play Dry Powder, starring opposite Claire Danes.

Marianne Jean-Baptiste (“Boxing Day”), Alistair Petrie (“Sex Education”), Romola Garai (“The Hour”) have joined BBC drama series “The Following Events Are Based On A Pack Of Lies.”

Rounding out the cast are Rebekah Staton (“Raised by Wolves”), Derek Jacobi (“Last Tango in Halifax”), Julian Barratt (“The Mighty Boosh”), Karl Johnson (“Hot Fuzz”) and Ellie Haddington (“Enola Holmes”).

Robbie McKillop (“Guilt”) and Nicole Charles (“Hair Power: Me and My Afro”) will split directing duties on the series, which was created and written by Penelope Skinner and Ginny Skinner.

Production has already begun on the series, which will be distributed internationally by BBC Studios.

“This is the story of two very different women and the conman they have in common; a dark, funny, and unpredictable thriller about three remarkable characters trapped in a tangled triangle of complexly layered half-truths and lies of epic proportions,” reads the logline.

Exclusive: Charlotte Colbert, the filmmaker and multimedia artist whose feature directorial debut She Will won the Locarno Film Festival’s Golden Leopard for Best First Feature, has signed with Gersh for representation, Co-President David Gersh announced today.

“Charlotte is a visionary writer/ director,” said Gersh, “and is one of the most original and exciting new filmmakers to emerge.”

Colbert’s Locarno thriller tells the story of Veronica Ghent (Alice Krige), who after a double mastectomy, goes to a healing retreat in rural Scotland with her young nurse Desi (Kota Eberhardt). She discovers that the process of such surgery opens up questions about her very existence, leading her to start to question and confront past traumas. The two then develop an unlikely bond as mysterious forces give Veronica the power to enact revenge within her dreams.

She Will has been acquired for domestic distribution by IFC Films and will be released this spring.

After its first ever virtual Showcase earlier this year, the 2022 BBC Studios Showcase will also be fully digital, the outfit revealed on Tuesday.

The producer-distributor will hold a three-day program of virtual events running from Feb. 28-March 2, rather than host global buyers in person at its usual Liverpool extravaganza. While the event is still at least six months out, sources tell Variety the company needed to let its suppliers know well in advance.

“We’re proud that BBC Studios Showcase has made the U.K. a key destination for the world’s content buyers but the pandemic has accelerated changes in the way we can help them discover our shows,” said Paul Dempsey, president of global distribution for BBC Studios.

“Their terrific response to our virtual Showcase earlier this year, coupled with continued uncertainty around international travel means that we will once again bring our content to customers digitally next February.

A spin-off of The A Word and a con-artist thriller from Chernobyl producer Sister are two of the latest dramas ordered by British public broadcaster the BBC.

Both projects will air on flagship network BBC One but what is more remarkable about the pair of orders is that both involve emerging writers and in the case of The A Word spin-off, disabled writers.

Ralph and Katie focuses on two of the characters from Peter Bowker’s The A Word.

The series follows Ralph, played by Leon Harrop, and Katie, played Sarah Gordy, as they embark on the biggest adventure of their lives, having just had the wedding of the year. Each 30-minute episode features a different story focusing on the domestic challenges faced by the newlyweds – challenges faced by all newlyweds, but with the added fact that they have Down’s Syndrome.

UK-based Stan & Ollie production company Fable Pictures has secured the TV rights to tell the story of actress Joan Collins and her late sister, the bestselling novelist Jackie Collins.

The six-hour series will be distributed globally by Sony Pictures Television which owns a minority stake in Fable.

It will be executive produced by Caroline Harvey, Faye Ward , Hannah Farrell, and Sally Greene. UK playwright Penelope Skinner, whose credits include The Village Bike and Linda, is writing the series. Casting director Nina is casting the producton.

The colorful lives of movie star Joan Collins and her bestselling novelist sister, Jackie, will be dramatized in a TV series. Sony-backed Fable Pictures, the British film and TV producer behind “Stan & Ollie,” will make the series, having secured the TV rights to the Collinses’ story.

The series, which has the working title “Joan & Jackie,” will trace the sisters’ journeys from postwar London to Hollywood stardom as Alexis Carrington in “Dynasty” and literary fame as the author of “Valley of the Dolls,” respectively. No broadcaster or platform is officially attached yet, but Sony Pictures Television will take the six-part show out internationally.

“I am delighted that such a prestigious team wants to tell our story, and I know my sister Jackie would be as excited as I am to be involved,” Joan Collins said.

Playwright Penelope Skinner, who wrote the Romola Garai and Greta Gerwig-fronted play The Village Bike as well as series such as E4’s Fresh Meat is writing the script for the series, which does not have a broadcaster attached. The Crown and Game of Thrones casting director Nina Gold is on board to cast the drama.

It’s no spoiler to report that the final stage direction of Penelope Skinner’s play The Village Bike, brought over from London by McC Theater and starring Greta Gerwig, is “Mike wanks.” The whole thing’s about wanking: pleasure and self-pleasure. It starts, hilariously, with a young couple negotiating sex during the first days of the wife’s pregnancy, which has turned Becky ravenous but left John repelled. (He says he’s afraid of killing the baby.) Out comes the collection of porn DVDs, stored in a box marked as wedding crockery; this does not solve the problem. It does, however, get us merrily through the next few scenes, which riff on the ridiculous set-ups and dim double entendres of the genre. To Becky, everything looks like a hookup about to happen. The plumber who arrives to fix the couple’s clanking pipes keeps using the word moist. And...
