‘One of Them Days’ Sequel With Keke Palmer and Sza in the Works at TriStar (Exclusive)
Image
It’s about to be another “One of Them Days,” as a sequel to the hit comedy starring Keke Palmer and Sza and produced by Issa Rae is in early development at TriStar Pictures.

Palmer and Sza are expected to return for the new movie, along with the film’s original creative team, but plot details are still being kept under wraps.

Directed by Lawrence Lamont in his feature debut and from a script written by Syreeta Singleton, “One of Them Days” was a breakout hit at the box office, grossing over $50 million worldwide after its January release — a particularly strong number for an R-rated mid-budget comedy. The critically acclaimed movie (with a stellar 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes) was also a standout on Netflix, where it spent three weeks on the streamer’s top 10 list.

The film follows best friends and roommates Dreux (Palmer) and Alyssa (Sza) as they race...

The Studio creators reveal the Hollywood stars they want to cameo in season 2
Image
The first season of Apple TV+ hit comedy The Studio was full of cameos, all happy to set up themselves and the business of filmmaking. The likes of Martin Scorsese, Olivia Wilde, and Ron Howard all starred in the first season of the Seth Rogen comedy. With the streamer already announcing the second season, the writers and actors are already putting in requests for the next batch of cameo stars.

The writer/actor is desperate for Daniel Day-Lewis to appear in the second series of The Studio. “He’s the greatest living actor,” Rogen told Variety at Apple TV+’s FYC event in Hollywood. “His process is so specific that I think that would be an interesting thing to explore on the show.”

Catherine O'Hara, Zoe Kravitz, and Ike Barinholtz in "The Studio," now streaming on Apple TV+.

The Superbad actor hasn’t reached out to the three-time Oscar winner.

'He’s the Greatest Living Actor’: Seth Rogen’s Most-Wanted Guest Star for The Studio Season 2 Is a Long Shot
Image
Seth Rogen's hit series The Studio lampoons Hollywood with the help of many big-name guest stars brought in to play themselves. The series will be back for a second season, likely with many new exciting guests, but Rogen may have some trouble getting the one he wants most of all.

Per Variety, Rogen said how he's really hoping to get semi-retired actor Daniel Day-Lewis on The Studio. This is in part because Day-Lewis is the "greatest living actor" in the eyes of Rogen, though he's certainly not alone with that opinion. It may be a long shot to get Day-Lewis involved, as the Oscar-winning actor has largely stepped back from performing in recent years, but Rogen feels that he may be influenced to come on board if he hears the pitch they have in mind.

“He’s the greatest living actor,” Rogen said at Apple TV+'s FYC event in Hollywood.

“We’ll pitch you a good idea!”: Seth Rogen’s Open Call to 3-Time Oscar Winner for ‘The Studio’ Season 2
Image
After Season 1’s critical success, Seth Rogen is eyeing an even bigger second season for The Studio. The Apple TV+ satirical comedy series shocked fans by featuring several huge cameos in each of its episodes. Now, Rogen seems to elevate the show to the next level, as he is inviting Daniel Day-Lewis to The Studio‘s Season 2.

Daniel Day-Lewis is widely named among the greatest actors of all time, with 3 Oscars under his belt. Although he retired from acting after starring in Paul Thomas Anderson’s Phantom Thread, the legend is now coming out of his retirement for his son’s directorial debut, Anemone, set to release this year.

Seth Rogen Really Wants Daniel Day-Lewis on ‘The Studio’: ‘Please Consider a Zoom With Us’
Image
The star-studded first season of Seth Rogen’s sitcom-as-Hollywood-love-letter The Studio included appearances by Olivia Wilde, Bryan Cranston, Charlize Theron, and Steve Buscemi, among countless others. So it’s no surprise that he knows exactly who he wants for the second season, and he’s aiming big: Daniel Day-Lewis. “He’s the greatest living actor,” Rogen told Variety this week. “His process is so specific that I think that would be an interesting thing to explore on the show.”

But Rogen didn’t stop at simply putting his wish into...

Seth Rogen Sends Message to Daniel Day-Lewis to Guest Star on ‘The Studio’ Season 2: ‘Please Consider a Zoom With Us, We’ll Pitch You a Good Idea’
Image
Seth Rogen wants Daniel Day-Lewis to guest star on “The Studio.”

“He’s the greatest living actor,” Rogen told me Wednesday at Apple TV+’s FYC event in Hollywood. “His process is so specific that I think that would be an interesting thing to explore on the show.”

Rogen, who stars in and co-created the series with Evan Goldberg, says he hasn’t reached out to the Oscar winner… yet. “Daniel, please consider a Zoom with us,” he said. “We’ll pitch you a good idea!”

Goldberg thinks James Cameron would “work really well” as a guest star, because the “Avatar” director “is a genius but he’s also known for sometimes getting angry.”

Chase Sui Wonders, who plays the aspiring development executive Quinn Hackett, has already pitched Kristen Stewart to Rogen and Goldberg. “It’s related to identity politics and if Kristen is dealing with a delicate matter, Quinn...

‘Is that about me?’ Seth Rogen loves how ‘The Studio’ keeps Hollywood guessing
Image
Ever since viewers — especially those working in Hollywood — fell in love with The Studio, the series’ creators Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg have gotten accustomed to people at cocktail parties leaning in confidentially and asking, hushed, “How did you hear that story about me?”

“The people who it's actually based on don't think it's based on them, and the people who it's not based on want to think it's based on them!” Rogen told Gold Derby at Apple TV+’s FYC celebration at the Hollywood Athletic Club, erupting into his signature chuckle. “It's a funny pattern.”

“When someone thinks it's based on them, it's best to let them,” Goldberg added.

“So many people have been like, ‘I know where you got that idea!’” laughed costar and writer-producer Ike Barinholtz. “Because I don't want to offend anyone. I'm like, ‘Yeah, that's a lot of different ideas...’ But I'm very touched when...

‘The Studio’ acting Emmy submissions revealed — including guest stars Martin Scorsese, Sarah Polley, and Bryan Cranston
Image
Apple TV+ has revealed its Emmy acting submissions for its breakout comedy series The Studio, including its lengthy list of guest actors.

As expected, the show’s only lead acting submission is star Seth Rogen, who plays the newly hired head of the fictional Continental Studios in the Hollywood satire.

The show’s other main cast members will run in the supporting categories: Ike Barinholtz and Dewayne Perkins in Best Comedy Supporting Actor, and Kathryn Hahn, Keyla Monterroso Mejia, Catherine O’Hara, and Chase Sui Wonders in Best Comedy Supporting Actress.

Cocreated by Rogen and Evan Goldberg, as well as Peter Huyck and Alex Gregory (Veep) and Frida Perez, The Studio’s first season tracks Matt’s ups and downs on the job, including having to tell Martin Scorsese (as himself) that his planned movie about Jonestown was being scrapped. Significant Hollywood filmmakers play themselves in the series, including Scorsese, Sarah Polley,...

¡Buenas noticias! Habrá una temporada 2 de ‘The Studio’.
Image
¡Gracias, Sal Saperstein! © Disney+

‘The Studio’ Renewed For Season 2 At Apple
Image
Matt Remick might be searching for another tentpole movie after Apple renewed Hollywood insider comedy The Studio for a second season.

The streamer revealed that it is bringing back the series, which was co-created by and stars Seth Rogen, for another run. This comes ahead of its season finale on May 21.

Rogen and his co-creator joked that Evan Goldberg that they were looking forward to “taking the lived experience of making season one and immediately putting it into season two, then repeating that loop for ten more seasons”.

The Studio, which launched on March 26, centers around Remick, played by Rogen, the newly installed boss of Continental Studios, who must deal with their own insecurities and the way that Hollywood works in order to make big tentpole movies and prestige dramas, while keeping their Bob Evans-style boss Griffin Mill, played by Bryan Cranston, and the filmmaking community happy.

The Best New Streaming Comedy Of 2025 Hates AI As Much As You Do
Image
This article contains spoilers for "The Studio" episode 7, "Casting."

I try to avoid hyperbolic hot takes, but the more time goes on, the more I'm starting to think that Seth Rogen truly is one of the most brilliant comedians to ever do it. He broke into the mainstream in the 2000s thanks to projects like "Superbad" and "Knocked Up", but as the "Freaks and Geeks" alum has grown, his comedy has evolved to an incomparable level. He currently executive produces and stars on Francesca Delbanco & Nicholas Stoller's Apple TV+ series "Platonic," which very well might be the smartest show about disaster millennials failing to accept the realities of their societal roles as adults. But his true masterpiece is the cringe-comedy Hollywood satire "The Studio" (also on Apple TV+), co-created with frequent collaborator Evan Goldberg along with Alex Gregory, Peter Huyck, and Frida Perez.

Is the ‘Clue’ TV Series Still Happening? Writer Shares Troubling Update
Image
Aside from video games, board games also get film and TV adaptations. One of them is Clue (or Cluedo), which was first announced in 2021, then later in 2024 when it was revealed to be an animated series that Sony will release. Unfortunately, this board game project was unable to leave the tabletop setting as it was recently reported that the show was canceled.

Clue's writer Dewayne Perkins revealed in an interview that the show was canceled but didn't give any reason why that was the case. He also didn't shed light on whether anyone else would pick up the project or what was going to happen to the IP. In 2021, it was reported that Fox was developing the Clue TV series, as it partnered with Hasbro and Bento Box Entertainment to make the series. But by 2024, the film and TV rights moved to Sony, thanks to a new deal made by Hasbro,...

Seth Rogen explains how ‘The Studio’ pulled off its one-shot episode
Image
It’s already being called one of the year’s best television episodes, but for The Studio co-creator, director, writer, and star Seth Rogen, its production was the most stressful.

The Apple TV+ comedy series premiered this week with two episodes: its tone-setting pilot episode, “The Promotion,” where Rogen’s Matt Remick is promoted into the top job at fledgling Continental Studios, and “The Oner,” an aptly named episode that unfolds in what appears to be one continuous take as Remick visits the set of Sarah Polley’s movie where she tries to execute a oner herself.

“It was really hard,” Rogen said at an FYC event Friday night at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, on a panel along with his costars, including Ike Barinholtz, Kathryn Hahn, Chase Sui Wonders, Bryan Cranston, Dewayne Perkins, and Keyla Monterroso Mejia.

Seth Rogen Reveals Ridley Scott’s Pitch for the ‘Monopoly’ Movie as ‘The Studio’ Cast Shares Crazy Hollywood Notes: A Photographer Said, ‘You Have a Terrible Body for Clothes’
Image
On the carpet ahead of Variety and Apple TV+’s “The Studio” screening and Q&a, the cast discussed the most memorable notes and pitches they’ve gotten while working in Hollywood.

Director and star Seth Rogen said he remembers the pitch for Ridley Scott’s rumored “Monopoly” movie “verbatim” since the meeting was helmed by the “Alien” director himself.

“It was a meeting with Ridley Scott,” Rogen said. “He was going to direct the ‘Monopoly’ movie, and me and Evan [Goldberg] went into his office and he said, ‘Imagine a helicopter shot of Central Park. You’re looking down on it from above. You pull up, you see all the buildings surrounding Central Park. What does it look like?’ And then he said, ‘A Monopoly board!’ And were like, ‘Fuck, that’s good.'”

While the “Monopoly” movie landed for Rogen, there were other pitches that did not resonate nearly as well.

What do critics think of new Apple TV+ Show 'The Studio'?
Image
Apple is hoping that its latest series will continue the hot streak of quality series it’s been riding.

One of the knocks on Apple TV+ is that it doesn’t have the bulk of content that other streamers do, making it difficult for consumers to justify staying subscribed in between its biggest hits. But here’s the thing, Apple TV+ is really only turning out hits these days. The service has been releasing an unending, steady stream of critical and audience favorites for nearly a year, including “Presumed Innocent,” “Bad Monkey,” “Slow Horses,” “Shrinking,” “Pachinko,” “Silo,” and the recently concluded second season of “Severance,” which kept the internet on pins and needles throughout its entire run.

Seth Rogen in The Studio (2025)
Apple TV’s The Studio releases trailer, draws strong early reviews
Seth Rogen in The Studio (2025)
The Studio, from the brain of Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, looks like movie nerd gold. It’s heading to Apple TV+ this month.

This writer is still not quite over HBO’s cancellation of The Franchise, the Himesh Patel-fronted comedy series that examined the absurdities of blockbuster filmmaking and wasn’t given any more chances to find its audience beyond a single season. It was funny, skewered the Marvel Cinematic Universe machine with precision satire and boasted Richard E Grant having the time of his life as a jaded classically-trained actor just taking a big studio paycheque and upsetting as many people as humanly possible.

However, it does look like an heir apparent is in place to take The Franchise’s vacated throne, courtesy of Apple TV. The streaming platform’s new series about the running of a film studio is called The Studio. Its first season has...

Image
Seth Rogen is taking aim at Hollywood itself in the first trailer for his and Evan Goldberg’s upcoming Apple TV+ comedy, “The Studio.” The series, which is produced by Lionsgate Television, will premiere exclusively on the streamer on March 26.

“The Studio” follows Matt Remick (Rogen), an executive for Continental Studios who originally got into the business because of his genuine love of film. But when he’s promoted to become head of Continental, the day-to-day stress quickly transforms his dream job into a waking nightmare.

“I’m honored, obviously, to be one of the people who gets to choose which movies get made and which ones don’t,” Matt says in the trailer. “And I got into all this because, you know, I love movies. But now I have this fear that my job is to ruin them.”

“The job is a meat grinder,” his mentor Amy (Catherine O’Hara) sagely responds.

They’ve dominated the airwaves for decades, and they’ve done the same on modern streaming services. So, it shouldn’t be surprising to learn that people are excited about Apple TV’s upcoming office sitcom, The Studio.

News about the series broke in 2022. More specifically, its production was announced on November 14 of that year. At that time, the only known fact was that it would star Seth Rogen. However, as its March 2025 release date approaches, more details are being tactically dropped.

The Studio Has the Chance to Be Apple TV's Next Big Hit Image via Apple TV+ In 2022, the same year The Studio was announced, Apple TV ordered content for Legendary Entertainment’s renewed MonsterVerse. 2023’s Killers of the Flower Moon was Apple TV’s first theatrical release.

Apple TV+ Rolls Out Bizarre Zombie Comedy Clip from The Studio
Seth Rogen in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem (2023)
In a surprising move during the Super Bowl broadcast, Seth Rogen introduced a new trailer for his upcoming Apple TV+ comedy series, The Studio. Set to premiere on March 26, the show focuses on a fictional movie studio led by Rogen’s character, Matt Remick, as he contends with creative pressures and corporate demands.

The trailer, titled Duhpocalypse, includes a notably provocative scene featuring a zombie and a graphic moment of flatulence. USC Annenberg’s Latest Film Inclusion List Adds ‘A Thousand And One’, Three Other 2023 Films To Top 10 List
Image
The second iteration of The Inclusion List from Dr. Stacy L. Smith and the USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative has identified the 150 most inclusive films from 2019 to 2023, adding to its initial class of 100 films by naming 50 new titles for the year 2023.

Four films from that year have made it into the Top 10 Most Inclusive Films for that timespan, according to the study released Wednesday, with A Thousand and One taking the No. 2 spot overall, Bottoms coming in seventh, The Color Purple ninth and The Blackening in 10th.

The list’s point system took into account talent both in front of and behind the camera, with a total of 20 points broken down into 10-point halves for both on-screen and off-screen inclusion. Two distinct processes were used, one for leads/co-leads and the other for all speaking characters. A film could earn up to 10 points for on-screen inclusion based on the five inclusion indicators across leads/co leads (up to 5 points) and all speaking characters (up to 5 points).

A Thousand and One ranks second with a score of 13.6/20, while Bottoms scores a 12.2/20. The Color Purple and The Blackening are tied with a score of 11.8/20. The highest scoring film on the list remains Gina Prince-Bythewood’s The Woman King (2022) with a 15/20.

The list also evaluated 2023 films displaying the best inclusivity across five categories: gender, race/ethnicity, LGBTQ+, disability, and age. It named five of the most inclusive 2023 films within each of those categories.

The 2023 films that scored the highest for the gender indicator of inclusion were A Thousand and One, You Hurt My Feelings, The Marvels, Priscilla and Barbie. A Thousand and One also scored high on the race/ethnicity list alongside 2023’s Joy Ride, The Color Purple, The Blackening and House Party. In the LGBTQ+ category, the top five films of 2023 were All of Us Strangers, Theater Camp, Bottoms, Knock at the Cabin and Saltburn. 2023 releases ranking high in the disability category included What Happens Later, John Wick: Chapter 4, Moving On, Golda and The Holdovers. Films from 2023 that scored highest in their representation of age on the big screen were Moving On, Book Club: The Next Chapter, Marlowe, The Miracle Club and Golda.

Researchers also took into consideration the race and ethnicity of crew members in the roles of director, writer, producer, cinematographer, editor, composer, production designer, costume designer, casting director and assistant director.

The second Inclusion List also names 25 top achievers across inclusion metrics and 50 new winners for 2023 cinema. Released Jan. 22, the results calls attention to directors, editors and distributors involved in projects with the highest percentage of women and people of color employees who aided in the process of production from start to finish line.

Related: Women-Led Films Fell Close To 30% In 2023, Near A 10-Year Low, Per Study

Out of 400 evaluated directors, five were named the most inclusive: Catherine Hardwicke, Olivia Wilde, Destin Daniel Cretton, Reinaldo Marcus Green and Kasi Lemmons.

Eight editors were noted for their work in film over the past five years, including Annette Davey, Anne McCabe, Blair McClendon, Catrin Hedström, Hilda Rasula, Harry Yoon, Mary Jo Markey.

The top distributors — companies responsible for bringing top-ranking diverse films to audiences — were listed by the quantity of how many films released: Universal (29), Sony Pictures (21), Warner Bros (18) and, for smaller distributors, A24 (14), MGM (10) and Bleecker Street (9).

A panel discussing the results featuring Smith, Sumi Parekh, Executive Director, Group Effort Initiative, Tracy Oliver, Screenwriter, Director, Producer and Showrunner, Jesse Williams, Actor, Director, Activist, Dewayne Perkins, Writer, Actor, Producer, and Amy White, Global Head of Corporate Social Responsibility, Adobe, is set for Friday at Adobe House on the ground at the Sundance Film Festival.

Keke Palmer's New Comedy Breaks An 11-Year-Old Rotten Tomatoes Record Even Two Recent Acclaimed Hits Couldn't
Image
Keke Palmer's new comedy One of Them Days has broken a Rotten Tomatoes record. The movie, which was produced by Insecure's Issa Rae, was directed by Lawrence Lamont (who previously collaborated with Rae on Max's Rap Sh!t) from the debut screenplay by Syreeta Singleton (who was the showrunner of Rap Sh!t). It co-stars Palmer and singer-songwriter Sza as best friends Dreux and Alyssa alongside an ensemble cast that includes Vanessa Bell Calloway, Maude Apatow, Katt Williams, Dewayne Perkins, Lil Rel Howery, and Janelle James.

The new Keke Palmer movie is the latest in a string of prominent projects for the actor, who kicked off her career in the mid 2000s and first rose to prominence when she starred opposite Laurence Fishburne and Angela Bassett in 2006's Akeelah and the Bee. She parlayed this success as a child actor into roles in projects such as Disney's Jump In! and Nickelodeon's True Jackson,...

One Of Them Days Review: Keke Palmer & Sza's Buddy Comedy Is Silly Fun & Reminds Me How Much I've Missed Movies Like This
Image
Comedies are hard to come by these days. They’re practically non-existent — a reality I’m quite bitter about because who doesn’t like to laugh? — or, if they do exist, are just plain bad. So I was surprised that One of Them Daysmanaged to get made at all. The film, directed by Lawrence Lamont from a screenplay by Syreeta Singleton, is a throwback buddy comedy we don’t see much of. While that occasionally works against it, One of Them Days is fun and delightfully absurd. Keke Palmer and Sza are great together and it’s their chemistry and interactions that largely work.

One of Them Days, directed by Lawrence Lamont, follows best friends and roommates Dreux and Alyssa as they scramble to prevent eviction after discovering Alyssa's boyfriend has squandered their rent money. This comedic adventure highlights their desperate and humorous attempts to save their home and friendship.

One of Them Days Review – Palmer and Sza Deliver Big Laughs
Image
The hangout comedy has seemingly disappeared from theaters in recent years. As tentpole films and big-budget spectacle rules, even a movie about friends hanging out seems unexciting to general audiences. However, One of Them Days takes its simple premise and runs wild. Starring Keke Palmer and Sza, One of Them Days gets big laughs on every level. In addition to a dozen great sight gags, one-liners from its leads help put an exclamation point on scenes. While it runs too long for its own good, One of Them Days has a real chance as an early-year sleeper.

Seth Rogen's 'The Studio' Inspired by "Tragic" Studio Executive Meeting
Image
Seth Rogen has a new comedy series in the works based on his real life experiences in the “very tragic” world of Hollywood. The Studio is a 10-episode series for Apple TV+ created, produced, co-directed and starring Rogen.

Rogen and his creative partner Evan Goldberg based The Studio on real-life encounters they had with Hollywood executives as they were coming up in the industry. "Me and Evan always are quoting a meeting we had when we were just starting, where a studio executive said literally the thing that Matt says in the pilot," Rogen told Entertainment Weekly.

As The Studio progresses, Rogen’s character, studio head Matt Remick, is torn between allowing the actors he admires artistic freedom and toeing the studio's bottom line. A dichotomy he was confronted with in the initial encounter that inspired the series.

“[The studio executive] was giving us notes and he hung his head and was like,...

Martin Scorsese Had a Lot of Opinions About the Directing in Seth Rogen's New Comedy Series
Image
Seth Rogen's newest comedy series, The Studio, which debuts on AppleTV+ in spring 2025, features a cavalcade of celebrity guests playing the worst versions of themselves imaginable. Everyone from Anthony Mackie, Adam Scott, Ron Howard, and Zack Snyder to Olivia Wilde, Zoë Kravitz, Charlize Theron, and Ice Cube appear on the show.

But there was one guest star who stood out from the rest, both in the scene and behind the scenes: Martin Scorsese, venerable director, producer, and sometimes actor. His role is integral to the overarching plot, which involves Rogen's character, Matt Remick, attempting to make a film that, in actuality, is a long product placement ad for Kool-Aid.
