The Paper Trailer: Domhnall Gleeson Inspires to Live Up to Steve Carell’s Charisma in Spinoff
Image
Peacock has released the first trailer for The Paper, the forthcoming spin-off to the beloved mockumentary The Office. Domhnall Gleeson, who’s playing Ned Sampson, the newly appointed editor-in-chief for the struggling Midwestern newspaper, has showcased promise in his brief scenes in the trailer.

Although Steve Carell‘s iconic portrayal of Michael Scott remains a high bar to clear, it appears the creatives behind the show are taking an almost opposite approach to that of Scott, who was a lovable yet incompetent lead.

Domhnall Gleeson Leads a Struggling Newsroom in The Paper Trailer

With the same crew that helmed The Office returning for the spin-off, the sitcom is set in the same universe as that of Dunder Mifflin. Domhnall Gleeson, in contrast to Carell’s Scott, stars as the idealistic journalist Ned Sampson, who is trying to make the best out of his team of misfits and the struggling newsroom,...

The Paper: Domhnall Gleeson manages a bullpen of misfits at a struggling newspaper in the trailer for The Office spinoff
Domhnall Gleeson
Coming into a company as the new editor-in-chief is challenging, but Ned Sampson (Domhnall Gleeson) is willing to give it the old college try. He doesn’t have the money to pay reporters, so he’s gathered a rag-tag group of volunteers to be the Truth-Teller’s editorial staff. Capturing all the inter-office shenanigans is the crew that filmed Dunder Mifflin’s corporate drama, and they’re just as sneaky in Toledo, Ohio, as they were in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Today’s trailer for The Paper takes us into the heart of Peacock‘s The Office spinoff, with more mockumentary mayhem than an inexperienced group of dimwits obsessed with parkour.

Truth-Teller is a bizarre operation. Although the newspaper has been around for over 100 years, its owner has let it fall to pieces. Oh, did I menation that they also sell toilet paper and seat covers, because what well-oiled machine doesn’t?...

Created by Greg Daniels and Michael Koman, the show is set in the same universe as The Office and is confirmed to be a spinoff but follows a totally new group of people, this time in a newspaper office instead of a paper company. Peacock’s ‘Office’ Spinoff ‘The Paper’ Points Its Mockumentary Cameras at a New Subject in Trailer
Image
The documentary crew that filmed The Office seemingly can’t get enough of paper.

Peacock on Thursday released a trailer for The Paper, a mockumentary set in the same world as The Office (and featuring Oscar Nuñez reprising his role as Oscar Martinez) that finds the crew that filmed Dunder Mifflin taking its cameras to Toledo, Ohio, and following the staff of the Truth-Teller, a newspaper that has been around for more than 100 years but is now apparently an afterthought for its owner, which also sells toilet paper and toilet seat covers.

Into that situation walks Ned Sampson (Domhnall Gleeson), who’s determined to restore the paper to its former glory. He doesn’t have money to pay reporters, however, so he recruits volunteers from the paper’s existing non-editorial staff while the documentary crew follows his efforts — much to Oscar’s dismay. Watch the trailer below.

Dunder Mifflin is back. Well, not exactly. But the documentary crew that filmed inside the fictional paper company’s office is back, and this time with a new subject.

In the trailer, an ambitious journalist named Ned Sampson (Domhnall Gleeson) joins the Toledo Truth Teller as editor-in-chief, with big ideas on how to revitalize the newspaper, which shares office space with a toilet paper company. He must battle budget cuts and motivate a ragtag group of staffers played by Sabrina Impacciatore, Chelsea Frei, Melvin Gregg, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Alex Edelman, Ramona Young, Tim Key and Nuñez. ‘The Paper’ Trailer: Long-Awaited ‘The Office’ Spinoff Is Already Giving Deadpan
Image
Greg Daniels must really have missed cubicles: “The Office” creator is back with a documentary-style sitcom spinoff series, titled “The Paper,” that reunites him with a slew of “Office” alums. Daniels and “Nathan For You” co-creator Michael Koman are the co-creators, co-showrunner, writers, and executive producers of the highly-anticipated Peacock series.

Much like “The Office,” “The Paper” revolves around an ensemble cast including Domhnall Gleeson, Sabrina Impacciatore, Chelsea Frei, Melvin Gregg, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Alex Edelman, Ramona Young, Tim Key, and “The Office” alum Oscar Nuñez. Original (Aka British) “The Office” stars and co-creators Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant executive produce “The Paper” along with Howard Klein, Ben Silverman, and Banijay Americas (formerly Reveille).

Peacock's The Office Spinoff Reveals Premiere Date (& Unusual Episode Rollout Plans)
Image
The Paper finally has a premiere date. The long-awaited spinoff of The Office will begin streaming on Peacock this September.

Peacock has revealed that the first four episodes of The Paper will premiere on Sept. 4, followed by two new episodes every Thursday through Sept. 25.This means the entire 10-episode season will be rolled out in less than a month. While the binge method (a.k.a. releasing the entire season at the same time) was once a popular release method for streaming originals, in recent years, streamers like HBO Max, Prime Video, and Disney+ have gone back to the tried and true one-episode per week release pattern, with some notable exceptions like multi-episode premieres or finales. With The Office a consistent streaming hit, the decision to burn through an entire season of its highly anticipated spinoff in just one month is somewhat unusual, although Peacock likely has a reason for doing so.

'The Office' Star Jenna Fischer Defends Last Seasons Without Steve Carell
Image
Jenna Fischer, the actor who played Pam Beesly in the U.S. version of the beloved sitcom The Office, is speaking out in favor of the often criticized last seasons of the NBC show. Steve Carell's character Michael Scott, Dunder Mifflin's regional manager of the Scranton branch, retired during Season 7 of the show. Despite some fans believing the show had lost its purpose after that, it continued for two more seasons that contained what Fischer now refers to as "amazing storylines."

Fischer appeared on the podcast hosted by Dana Carvey and David Spade, Fly on the Wall. She recalled the recording of her own podcast with co-star Angela Kinsey, Office Ladies, which consisted of the duo rewatching all 201 episodes of the show. "My biggest takeaway from having rewatched it was that it's really good the whole time," Fischer said about the rewatch experience. She also noted that her favorite episode was "Dinner Party,...

John Krasinski Breaks Silence on ‘The Office’ Spinoff Return and It’s Not Steve Carell Who Can Make It Happen
Image
After years of fans praying for The Office to return, NBC is finally giving them, well… something. It’s not a direct revival, but a brand-new spinoff called The Paper, set in the same quirky universe, just relocated to a struggling newspaper in Toledo, Ohio.

With that kind of comedic pedigree, there’s definitely hope, but fans are treading lightly. As let’s not forget how brutal the internet was to that Australian reboot attempt just last year.

So far, there’s no word on whether anyone from the Og Dunder Mifflin crew will pop in for a cameo or two. Thus, recently, John Krasinski cleared the air!
