Trash’s Revenge: Return of the Living Dead follow-up brings back several cast members, resurrects some with CGI
Dan O'Bannon
Forty years ago, writer/director Dan O’Bannon delivered one of the most highly entertaining zombie movies of all time with The Return of the Living Dead (watch it Here). A company called Living Dead Media LLC claims to own the copyright to the original screenplay and the underlying script for that film, as well as other trademarks, which is how they’re able to move ahead with a new Return of the Living Dead film that’s aiming for a Christmas 2025 release. But last year, a new company called Rotld Originals LLC was formed, with Return of the Living Dead cast member Beverly Randolph, a.k.a. Beverly Dawn Hartley, signing the formation document. It has since been revealed that Rotld Originals LLC is teaming up with DRagonSTUDIOS, a company that owns the trademarks to The Return of the Living Dead and Rotld Universe, for a movie project called Trash’s Revenge,...

‘Trash’s Revenge’ Will Use CGI to Resurrect Two ‘Return of the Living Dead’ Actors
Image
The star of the original horror-comedy classic The Return of the Living Dead, scream queen Linnea Quigley is carving her own path to a franchise resurrection with the upcoming Trash’s Revenge, a brand new meta project that’s now funding through Cinebacker.

Quigley, who played Trash in Dan O’Bannon’s classic horror-comedy, is reuniting with several other stars and crew members from The Return of the Living Dead on Trash’s Revenge, announcing this week that the film’s cast will also include Beverly Randolph, Thom Mathews, Miguel Nunez, and John Philbin, as well as two Rotld stars who are no longer with us.

According to Quigley’s latest update on the Trash’s Revenge project, late actors James Karen and Don Calfa will be brought back to the screen “with the magic of CGI.” James Karen, who played Frank in The Return of the Living Dead and also...

‘Trash’s Revenge’ – Linnea Quigley Announces Her Own ‘Return of the Living Dead’ Sequel
Image
We learned just last week that the long-dormant Return of the Living Dead franchise will return next Christmas with a brand new sequel from Living Dead Media and director Steve Wolsh (Muck, Kill Her Goats). The Christmas-themed horror sequel is set in 1985, 18 months after the events of the original film, and you can watch the first teaser here.

Oddly enough, that’s not even the only Return of the Living Dead movie on the horizon. Remember that legal battle over the rights that we reported on this past summer? Well, it looks like the other party that had been competing with Living Dead Media on the rights (Rotld Originals LLC) has come up with their own sequel project, titled Trash’s Revenge.

While Living Dead Media’s sequel will not feature any returning actors from the 1985 horror-comedy classic, Trash’s Revenge is set to star Rotld actress Linnea Quigley. The...

'Return of the Living Dead' Franchise Revived With Festive Sequel for 2025 Release
Image
Brains! That's what it takes to make a good zombie movie these days. While the horror genre had a renaissance in the early 2000s, the leg-dragging flesh feasters have waned in popularity recently. Writer/Director Steve Wolsh of Living Dead Media is hoping to turn that around with a holiday twist on the Return of The Living Dead franchise. While details on the production are scant, Wolsh is getting some interesting pieces in order.

Wolsh spoke with The Hollywood Reporter and said that the film won't be a reboot but a sequel to the 1985 original, directed by Dan O’Bannon, and called the installment "a brand new adventure." He also confirmed that this film will use practical effects and real locations instead of greenscreen, which some may argue has robbed the potency and visceral power of the zombie genre in this century. Wolsh reflected on the practical effects teased in the...

Return of the Living Dead reboot teaser trailer promises a Christmas 2025 release
Dan O'Bannon
Almost forty years ago, writer/director Dan O’Bannon delivered one of the most highly entertaining zombie movies of all time with The Return of the Living Dead (watch it Here)… and in the process, spawned a franchise. There was the goofy comedy of The Return of the Living Dead Part II, the “Romeo and Juliet with zombies” love story Return of the Living Dead ///, and a couple sequels nobody paid much attention to, Return of the Living Dead: Necropolis and Return of the Living Dead: Rave to the Grave. The franchise has been dormant for nineteen years – but last year, it was announced that Muck and Kill Her Goats director Steve Wolsh, who also happens to be the CEO of the company Living Dead Media, was developing a reboot of The Return of the Living Dead. ‘Return of the Living Dead’ – Tarman Returns in Teaser Trailer for Christmas Horror Sequel
Return of the Living Dead (2025)
After five films and a 20-year break, the Return of the Living Dead franchise returns next Christmas with a brand new sequel to the original classic, and we’ve got the teaser trailer.

From Living Dead Media and director Steve Wolsh (Muck, Kill Her Goats), the Christmas-themed sequel Return of the Living Dead will be shambling our way for Christmas 2025.

This footage shows the iconic Return of the Living Dead zombie known as Tarman dragging a Christmas tree through a cemetery as a blizzard rages around him. Watch below.

The new story takes place in a small Pennsylvania town over Christmas, and it’s set in 1985, 18 months after the events of the original film. “Fans of the film will know not to expect to see any returning characters, given their terrible fates in the original,” Living Dead Media explains. According to Wolsh, this is not a reboot or a remake,...

More Brains: New ‘Return of the Living Dead’ Zombie Film in Works for Christmas 2025
Image
The living dead are ready to make a big return next year.

Living Dead Media has revealed that a new Return of the Living Dead film is due in 2025, a year that marks the milestone 40th anniversary of the 1985 horror cult classic. In doing so, the company and its CEO Steve Wolsh have confirmed details about the project and teased it with a holiday-themed trailer. The clip, which dropped today, not coincidentally on Friday the 13th, features the franchise’s spooky Tarman emerging in a snow covered cemetery dragging a Christmas tree across the landscape as a rendition of “Silent Night” helps set the mood. The teaser does its job by announcing a Christmas 2025 planned releases.

Per a press release obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, Living Dead Media confirms that the project won’t be a reboot of the original but a new installment in the beloved horror-comedy franchise. It...

‘Return of the Living Dead’ – Two Exclusive Images from Franchise’s Return Tease Christmas Theme
Image
We had learned just about a year ago that rights holders Living Dead Media were developing a reboot of the Dan O’Bannon-created horror-comedy franchise The Return of the Living Dead, which hasn’t spawned a new movie in almost 20 years. This week, Bloody Disgusting has learned that a big announcement is going to be made by the team tomorrow, December 13.

In the meantime, Living Dead Media and director Steve Wolsh (Muck, Kill Her Goats) have provided Bloody Disgusting with two exclusive still images from that upcoming Return of the Living Dead movie, suggesting that the project is indeed still happening and coming soon.

Both exclusive images tease a Christmas/Winter theme for the next installment in the Return of the Living Dead franchise, the first one seemingly teasing a chilly new take on the Tarman.

Check out the images below and expect Living Dead Media’s announcement (plus a teaser!

An Interesting ‘The Return of the Living Dead’ Legal Battle Has Begun
Image
One of the greatest horror-comedies of all time, Dan O’Bannon’s 1985 movie The Return of the Living Dead ended up launching a franchise that to date includes five total movies, but it’s been nearly twenty years since the direct-to-video release of fourth and fifth installments Return of the Living Dead: Necropolis and Return of the Living Dead: Rave to the Grave.

What’s the latest on the franchise, you might be wondering? Well, we had learned just about a year ago that rights holders Living Dead Media were planning a Return of the Living Dead reboot with Steve Wolsh (Muck, Kill Her Goats) attached to direct, this information gleaned from the company’s official website. That website, it seems, is no longer online.

Living Dead Media said last year, “Our reboot of Return of the Living Dead will expand the existing world created by the original 5 films, while staying true to the R-rated,...

George A. Romero's Final Living Dead Movie Finds Its Director in Brad Anderson
Image
Brad Anderson will direct Twilight of the Dead, the seventh and final movie of George A. Romero's Living Dead franchise.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Anderson will helm the film, which multi-platform production company Roundtable Entertainment will produce and finance. "George Romero's 1968 classic Night of the Living Dead may have been the first real horror movie I ever saw, and its shock value, keen social relevance, and even the means by which it was made were all hugely inspirational to me," Anderson said. "This, too, is a zombie movie in which limbs fly and heads roll, but one that is also about social transformation, one that asks the question: What is it to be human? It is also a horror movie with heart and dare I say, hope."

‘Fog City’ – Indie Horror Movie from ‘Kill Her Goats’ Director Is Crowd-Funding a SteelBook Release
Image
Directed by Steve Wolsh, the indie horror movie Fog City has already wrapped production, and the team is taking a unique approach to a post-production campaign over on Kickstarter.

They’re not funding the movie. Rather, they’re funding a 4K SteelBook release of the movie. And with 36 hours to go, the crowd-funding campaign has smashed through its goal.

Wolsh and his team were looking to raise $50,000 to make the SteelBook release a reality, and to date a whopping $55,408 has been donated by well over 600 individual backers.

So what is Fog City, you ask? Wolsh promises a bloody horror movie that favors practical effects. In fact, he says that the film “features all practical effects and No CGI.”

In Fog City, “A group of friends seal themselves inside a secluded Cape Cod vacation home after a mysterious orange fog leaks from an old nearby factory. Once trapped, they quickly learn there is no escape.

Return of the Living Dead Reboot Announced
Image
Perhaps someone needs to call more paramedics, because the Return of the Living Dead franchise is getting rebooted.

Per Collider, it's been announced that Return of the Living Dead is getting a new installment, but it won't be an outright remake of the original film. The intent is to expand upon the existing world that was introduced in the original movies, though it's unclear if this means that there will be any returning actors featured in prior installments. In any case, a sixth Return of the Living Dead film is officially in the works, and it's promised that the reboot will include the same brand of R-rated dark humor the series is famous for.

Cult Classic Zombie Comedy Getting Reboot 40 Years Later To "Expand The Existing World" Of The Franchise
Image
The cult-classic zombie comedy Return of the Living Dead is slated to get a fresh reboot nearly 40 years after its original release. Based on the novel of the same name by John Russo, The Return of the Living Dead was a comedic take on the zombie genre whose cult status was buoyed by a memorable soundtrack that included such LA-based punk rock bands as The Cramps and 45 Grave. Generating rave reviews and performing moderately well at the box office, the 1985 movie would eventually go on to spawn four additional sequels and popularize many zombie tropes for years to come.

According to the official website of Living Dead Media, a Return of the Living Dead reboot is in the works, with the intent to "expand the existing world" of the long-running franchise in the next installment. Set to be helmed by Muck and Kill Her Goats director Steve Wolsh, the website...

Horror-Comedy Franchise Return of the Living Dead To Rise Again With Planned Reboot
Image
From the moment it arrived in all its 80s gory glory, The Return of the Living Dead has been widely regarded as one of the great horror comedies of not only the decade but of all time, combining some memorable animatronic special effects with plenty of jokes centered on the zombie horror movies of past decades. Now it looks like the franchise is coming back for more brains with a reboot-continuation being planned by Living Dead Media.

Currently, or at least prior to the WGA writer’s strike and now the SAG actor’s strike, there were many 30-40 year old franchises that were being resurrected for new audiences, and having been dormant for 20 years and horror movies currently killing it at the box office – pun most definitely intended – Return of the Living Dead could be a big hit with a whole new generation as well as those looking for a nostalgic throwback.

‘Return of the Living Dead’ Reboot in the Works; “Will Expand the Existing World”
Image
One of the greatest horror-comedies of all time, Dan O’Bannon’s 1985 movie The Return of the Living Dead ended up launching a franchise that to date includes five total movies, but you mostly only hear horror fans talking about the first three. The first sequel came in 1988 and featured returning actors, but 1993’s Brian Yuzna-directed Return of the Living Dead 3 went in an entirely different direction with a wildly different storyline. It’s become a cult classic in recent years, thanks in large part to its central villain, a sexy zombie played by Melinda Clarke.

And then we got Return of the Living Dead: Necropolis and Return of the Living Dead: Rave to the Grave, both released direct-to-television in 2005. Why don’t horror fans talk about them? Well, they took the franchise down a not-quite-desirable path, the two films cheaply made and shot at the same time. And...

Kill Her Goats trailer: Kane Hodder is a slasher called Goatface
Image
Stuntman / actor Kane Hodder has played Jason Voorhees in four Friday the 13th films (plus the recent video game), Victor Crowley in four Hatchet movies, and Leatherface in Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre III (plus the upcoming video game), among many other credits. And now he’s playing a slasher called Goatface in the upcoming horror film Kill Her Goats. You can see a trailer for Kill Her Goats in the embed above.

According to Fangoria, the movie is described as being a “low-burn home invasion thriller with a slasher twist”. Set in the fictional town of West Craven, the story follows Audra as she is gifted her dream house for graduation. But this is not a tale of making dreams come true, no… this is a nightmare story, and it becomes exactly that when some uninvited guests show up to the party. And they aren’t very subtle about their...

Preoccupation With Babes Keeps This Stuck In The "Muck"
When a film prominently advertises that the 2012 Playboy Playmate of the Year is in its cast, you can generally suspect what kind of experience awaits you. When the opening credits roll over footage of a topless woman stumbling around a field, her face obscured so that she is literally no more than a pair of breasts, your suspicions are immediately confirmed. Such is Muck, an indie horror flick more interested in sexy women than scares. The debut feature from writer/director Steve Wolsh, it chronicles what happens to a group of hot young things in the fictional Cape Cod town of West Craven (yup) as they are terrorized by a mysterious killer (played by Kane Hodder, a stuntman and horror icon best known for playing Jason Voorhees in four of the Friday the 13th movies). Spoiler alert: Most of them die, in brutal and barbaric fashion.

Muck Review
Listen, I’m all for Z-grade horror debauchery, but only when it’s crafted with a modicum of respect for the genre. That is not this movie.

Muck Attempts to reinvigorate an ultra-sexpot subgenre from sleazier times, but filmmaker Steve Wolsh couldn’t have missed the bullseye more if he were blind-folded and handcuffed. All we get is a perverted excuse to parade around Playboy Playmates in little-to-no clothes at all, as the camera blatantly focuses its attention on tits, ass, and the occasional flash of bro abs. You’d think there’d be some sort of story hidden beneath the murky waters of Muck, but I assure you it doesn’t exist – that would take away from the lengthy montages of sexy, helpless models who are forced to helplessly shamble around in a swamp for what seems like hours. It’s kind of like watching Skinemax, except without the gratuitous sex.
