‘Ginny & Georgia’ Star Sara Waisglass, Creator Talk Max’s Tough Season 3 Moments and What Happens Next
Image
Note: This story contains spoilers from “Ginny & Georgia” Season 3, Episode 10.

As “Ginny & Georgia” Season 3 put Antonia Gentry’s Ginny through the ringer with her Georgia (Brianne Howey) sits on trial for murder, Sara Waisglass’ Maxine wants nothing more than to be there for Ginny, but finds that her advances aren’t well-received, to say the least.

While Maxine and Ginny make up one half of friend group M.A.N.G., which also includes Abby (Katie Douglas), who goes through her own coming out journey in Season 3, and Norah (Chelsea Clark), who struggles with shifting alliances in the wake of the murder trial, Maxine finds herself on the outside looking in as Ginny, Abby and Norah bond as a trio.

“I really don’t think Max did anything wrong — I think she tried to love to the fullest of her ability, tried to be there for Ginny as best as she could,...

“She’s an Entirely New Person”: ‘Ginny & Georgia’s Brianne Howey Dubs Season 3 Georgia’s Breakdown Season [Exclusive]
Image
Editor's Note: This article contains spoilers for Ginny & Georgia Season 3.

One thing that's remained true throughout Ginny & Georgia so far is that, despite her flaws, Georgia loves her children more than anything. The series has focused on her desperate attempts to give Ginny and Austin a fresh start in Wellsbury, where they could, ideally, live a normal life together. Alas, her relationships and past continue to haunt the family, with Season 2 taking a particularly devastating turn in its finale when she's arrested for the murder of Cynthia's husband, Tom. Her eccentric, free-spirited nature has never made life the easiest for her children, but series star Brianne Howey notes that she did take a small step forward in how she acts for their sake in Season 3.

During the latest episode of Collider Ladies Night with Perri Nemiroff, Howey dug deep on all the juicy details of the recently-released season,...

"Two Ships Passing in the Night": 'Ginny & Georgia' Star Teases a "Very Different" Relationship With Zion in Season 4 [Exclusive]
Image
Editor's Note: This article contains spoilers for Ginny & Georgia Season 3.

Season 3 of Ginny & Georgia is finally here, and with it came some big changes for Georgia and her family. After she was arrested in the Season 2 finale and charged with the murder of Cynthia’s husband, Tom, the joys of her marriage to Paul faded away, and everyone was left to deal with the fallout of her trial. Among those left reeling was Zion, Georgia's ex-boyfriend and the father of Ginny, played by Nathan Mitchell. The two have maintained a fairly close relationship as co-parents throughout the series, even reconciling on occasion, but Georgia's trial required him to step up in a greater way than ever to support Ginny and Austin at a time when it seemed their mother might go to prison. However, according to star Brianne Howey, that bond between the two will never be the...

Kurt Sutter Exits His Netflix Western ‘The Abandons’
Image
Netflix and creator Kurt Sutter have parted ways on the streamer’s western The Abandons.

Sutter, who created the drama and was serving as showrunner, left the show over creative differences with Netflix. The Abandons, set in the Oregon Territory in the 1850s, has a few weeks of production on its season remaining and will continue filming in Calgary, Alberta.

Netflix declined comment.

Netflix gave a straight-to-series order to The Abandons in October 2022. The series, which stars Lena Headey and Gillian Anderson, centers on a group of outlier families in 1850s Oregon who come together to fight a corrupt, wealthy power that wants to force them off their land. The cast also includes Nick Robinson, Diana Silvers, Lamar Johnson, Natalia del Riego, Lucas Till, Aisling Franciosi, Toby Hemingway, Michael Greyeyes, Ryan Hurst, Katelyn Wells, Clayton Cardenas, Elle-Maija Tailfeathers, Brían F. O’Byrne, Marc Menchaca, Patton Oswalt, Michael Ornstein, Jonathan Koensgen, Jack Doolan,...

Kurt Sutter exits The Abandons just three weeks before production wraps
Image
Deadline reports that Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter has exited The Abandons just three weeks before production on the first season of the Netflix series was slated to wrap. As always, the reason apparently comes down to those dreaded creative differences.

The report states that Netflix was concerned when the initial cut of the first episode came in at 1 hour and 40 minutes. It proved impossible to trim the episode down to an hour, so they decided it should be split into two. This required some additional scenes to create a cliffhanger for the new premiere, which have reportedly been written but not shot. After viewing the unfinished split episodes and part of the third, Netflix felt they “looked a bit disjointed and not propulsive enough.” A meeting between Netflix execs and Sutter to address the concerns didn’t take place before he departed.

Beyond going over budget and some alleged “friction with top talent,...

Kurt Sutter Exits His Netflix Series ‘The Abandons’ As Production Nears End
Image
Exclusive: This is a shocker — Kurt Sutter is out of the Netflix series The Abandons just three weeks before the sprawling Western starring Lena Headey and Gillian Anderson is slated to wrap production in Calgary. Sutter was the executive producer/showrunner on the series, which he also created.

The Abandons executive producer/director Otto Bathurst and co-exec producer Rob Askins will oversee the rest of filming — including reshoots, which will continue as scheduled with no new showrunner named. (Sutter and Bathurst are pictured in the above cast photo taken at the start of production in May.) The Abandons is about six episodes into its seven-episode shoot, I hear. Reps for Netflix and Sutter declined comment.

The departure is believed to stem from creative differences over the direction of the big-scale production as it is wrapping filming and headed into post. I hear an alarm went off at Netflix when the...

The Abandons: Kurt Sutter’s epic Western series for Netflix starts production
Image
It’s been a few years since Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter first announced The Abandons, but the Western series has finally started shooting. Netflix announced the start of production of the first season of The Abandons in Calgary, with an official cast photo seen above.

The official logline for The Abandons reads: “As a group of diverse, outlier families pursue their Manifest Destiny in 1850s Oregon, a corrupt force of wealth and power, coveting their land, tries to force them out. These abandoned souls, the kind of lost souls living on the fringe of society, unite their tribes to form a family and fight back. In this bloody process, ‘justice’ is stretched beyond the boundaries of the law. ‘The Lodge’ Blu-ray Review
Image
Stars: Riley Keough, Jaeden Martell, Lia McHugh, Richard Armitage, Alicia Silverstone, Katelyn Wells, Danny Keough, Lola Reid | Written by Veronika Franz, Severin Fiala, Sergio Casci | Directed by Veronika Franz, Severin Fiala

The first English-language feature from Austrian writer-directors Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala (Goodnight Mommy), The Lodge is a slow-burning chiller that plays some interesting games with the audience.

After a shocking prologue, The Lodge jumps forward six months to find pre-teen Mia (Lia McHugh) and her adolescent brother Aiden (Jaeden Martell) reluctantly travelling to a remote winter cabin with their widowed father Richard (Richard Armitage) and his new girlfriend Grace (Riley Keogh). The children are hostile to Grace because they blame her for the death of their mother (Alicia Silverstone), so tensions are high when a storm comes in and strands Mia and Aiden with their would-be stepmother while Richard is away on business.

Already convinced Grace is “a...

“The Lodge” Has A Shaky Foundation
Art house horror is the current fad in fright flicks, that much is clear. I’m hardly complaining, either, as It Follows, Midsommar, The Witch, and plenty of other titles have helped push the genre forward. At the same time, it does seem like we’re entering a period where filmmakers will begin to ape what’s been successful, and too much of The Lodge, opening this week, feels as though it’s riffing on Hereditary. Now, for many, that might be a good thing. Sadly, I found that effort lacking, so this is even more of a letdown. Riley Keough is fantastic in a central role, and there’s ample amounts of dread, but it all adds up to so little that it’s hard not to question if it was worth close to two hours in order to endure, especially after over a year of hype, starting off at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival.
